[Applause] on his latest movie Harlem Nights Eddie Murphy did everything except develop the film he'll come out talk to us about it but first let's look at a sample of his handiwork you don't insult me and I got to kick you're right now boys I don't want no hard feelings either you ain't nothin wrong with me what is wrong with you you don't accuse me of stealing the only thing I'm stealing out movie for you I'm a little afraid yes how is it direct direct it was fun [Applause] now listen now I mean wasn't will you do it again I mean did you bite off more than you can chew we talked about that oh I don't know laughing he's come out and he's giving me one-word answers like the worst I guess he's go trying to give you a heart that but I'm gonna keep asking your question you know what the next what was it like direct demon it was it was a it wasn't as much fun of that thought was gonna be and because there's a lot of stuff that they asked you like that actually you want this cushion like this so like this and you're like I don't care about the cushion might do it depends on how successful a movie is if the movie comes out and the successful and people don't know is wonderful direct again if they go WOW with the garbage I'll never do it again how did you feel when you watch something but you know if you do something for nine months nine months you'll say I like it you don't want to do nine months ago like I'm st. quite right but I like the movie alive everybody that's seen the movie with screen it to people and they watching they liked it so and y'all like it too I think I saw the F word used there a couple times and considering that Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor also in it and you yeah I get that F word with you own again free water F we're it out that's what we almost called a movie F word nights yeah Oh Richard Pryor's an idol of yours yeah I wasn't directing him it was a I love Richard a lot and I think a lot of what I am has because I grew up admiring the man so much and it was a bloom I blew me away to just be on the set when I was I don't want to do a film with him since uh since I started doing films and I would go and say hey rich I got a idea for a movie and he'd go and after a while I gave this idea and he liked it and we did it in it's just something I've been working up to for a long time and I'm real happy that he did it and he came off real good in the picture what did you get the idea for Harlem Nights um my accountant came to me he said you know ya almost have no more money left No yeah it really happened no what happened was I want to do a picture about Harlem and I bet I want to do a period movie and I that's how ya do you remember your first movement oh no ya know I'm thinking throwing that was done in Miss gays yard the who's Limu oh but fruity and I played Bruce Lee what happened was we saw Chinese connection and we were very uh you know when you see those karate movies when you're kid we went home and cut out my mother's broomstick up and got a chain and at noon Chuck's and all that and I took it to mix em I was like let's do it over again so we got a super 8 millimeter you don't have that here nothing like that do you good cuz if you shoot that clip and we went in the backyard and we shot we shot about ten minutes of Chinese connection with all black cast we had to close down production though cuz we only had $15 what was the call it was called the Chinese connection again [Music] [Applause] [Music] you gonna be the ninth Oh having this limping otherwise I'm gonna stick yes I'm gonna stick his ass and I'm definitely gonna stick this low jakey has been breaking my neck [Music] [Applause] what do you hate most about show business I don't hate anything about show business I don't hate it I love what I do and I love this business I love it all if I wasn't doing this I'd be somewhere like this you won't carve on the whack with that wait wait be much when you're in the position again what can't we do and time for my break me come out again are you gonna stand up again you miss stand up um you know sometimes I want to do stand-up now go to the club and I see some I see a lot of comedians and they're so good it makes me afraid like his cop it's kinda brother out there now I know it's laughs there's a comedian named Damon Wayans who and I wanna do comedy I want to get you get that bug in you to go do stand-up and then you go down in the comedy club you see somebody like Damon doing comedy and you say I don't think I want to touch the mic again because there's no funny you know so I don't know sir one day maybe eventually right now I got some other stuff to do yeah um somebody on my staff asked me this and I never thought about it they said Eddie is at the top of his field who does Eddie go for advice to who who does that he go to for advice when he has problems do you have somebody you can talk to when you have problems even on a personal level just you [Applause] I'm not getting quite the answers I was over that get tonight buddy come and ask me for some advice I tell I tell him uh don't take nobody's advice no because of weird thing happened once I worked out at the comedy club when I was like 16 and I always say the club's name but the woman that owned the club she was like all your actors terrible and you need to change it in your you're never gonna go anywhere in like five six years later I met her daughter and she was like can you give me some advice I wanna be an actress I like don't listen to your mother okay I don't take I don't give advice and I don't take advice because everybody's got a different path that they're going down you know and you can tell somebody make sure you go left and on that path as disposer great and they wind up like this as many times as we've talked on television and had interview situations I've never asked you about Elvis what you unknown when did that all start in the whole love Elvis began he teases me about Elvis all the time but nobody says like Elvis was alive now he said man you wouldn't even hang out with Elvis I said yes I whispered me Elvis would be little I be your house like sales engineer what's going on he told me to come over all right but when I was a kid see Elvis Presley to me I just it's just presence I think it is I don't think anyone in this business has had as much presence as Elvis I don't think anyone said as stronger presence I think I think there have been entertaining Michael Jackson's the only entertainer who's ever been more famous than him but I think Elvis has more press like when Elvis walked in the room everybody just looked at Elvis you know when he's on the screen you looked at Elvis he just had this thing about it and he was going through all this stuff with drugs and all this craziness but on screen and on stage you always look like he was in control you know and that's amazing because it was just wall going on inside this guy and I'm just fascinated with you know do you see similarities in Elvis and Eddie Murphy none whatsoever really started off Elvis is very white a black Elvis is from Memphis and I have never been to Memphis and had I gone back then they probably don't seem similarities I just said my his presence you know we had Herbie Hancock here last night who did the music for Harlem Nights and he talked about what great instinct you have musically and he talked about what a joy it was working with you in everything about music well no he said when he was working that bill there's a billboard from album on Sunset and somebody threw some snot like snot on my keep butter album thought was a comedy record or something it hurt me oh man oh I'm a ghost not on that picture then land the rent and it's a sad picture because the name of the album is so happy and it's a picture that look very Santa not me and he threw this snot on my head and it's not dripping down I'm like I knew that snot would wind up on that picture you know the expression the exact expression you would have if some snot was running down your neck [Music] hurry we're talking mostly about how right on your instincts were as far as putting music to the movie but uh I was gonna ask you about about the album how's it going and what's the next thing we'll come on uh I don't know what the next single is and Apple is going no doing all right it's not doing as well as chunkies album your brother chunky no your albums doing very well no I was doing all right yeah he's got a chunky has a song in this album called stink breath listen for that one
