Nice components and interesting rules tweaks. But as someone with a couple hundred plays under my belt, who already owns all of the previously-released content, I just don’t see the value in backing this without at least all the expansions included as stretch goals.

I’d be happy with a sticker pack to upgrade the tiles and player boards, and the option to buy the new minis separately.

Great jumping off point for new players though!

Plasma missiles requiring energy is a great change. This mean that you can't just load up your super fleet with nothing but PMs and run away after the first barrage.

I see they're back to not disclosing paid coverage again

I would probably back this if I could sell off all the OG content. Otherwise, I'll continue playing the first edition. Looks nice though.

There are changes to the game, there are changes to the game, how about you just say them... We'll mention only two... whole thing reeks of an infomercial ie not helpful at all.

Wish they'd hurry up with the KS already, seems like the launch date has been delayed a couple times based on posts on BGG and such.

I sold all my 1E stuff a couple years ago (prior to the 2E announcement) and it's one of the few games I really regret getting rid of. Then 2E was announced, and now I obviously can't settle for re-buying 1E...

This will officially be my first KS I back.

Can't believe it, but I'm going to buy the second version despite owning the first version with all the things. I like the game that much. It'll be nice to have the minor rules tweaks and I'm happy to support the company again after all the hours of enjoyment they gave me with the first version.

welcome back MVM today we have a very special first look this is for Eclipse or rather the second edition of Eclipse that's coming to Kickstarter very soon this is one of Jeremy's all-time favorite games and probably the quintessential Forex game out there I even created a poster for it I mean I absolutely love this game originally released in 2011 it's a 2 to 6 player Forex game as you just mentioned this one's called second Don for the galaxy it is a rerelease and the first thing you're gonna notice right off the bat is that the graphical changes to the game are phenomenal throughout yea this is a prototype a lot of this is prototype components here in front of us but you can tell already it's a far more colorful looking game definitely a much better table presence and what we don't have here are a lot of the really cool game trays components that they're going to have where there's a lot of depth to these things there's gonna be some recess spaces to hold all of the little bits in this game and those double has storage containers absolutely so for you guys have not played a clip so what we're going to do is we're going to kind of give you an overview of what Eclipse is they were gonna walk you experts through the changes because I know that's what you guys want to get to first off you guys have not played eclipse before it is a 4x style game that means you're going to be going out and exploring the galaxy colonizing a having diplomatic relationships with other players or being super aggressive and trying to destroy everyone at the table it's going to take place over an X number of rounds in this case the game has been changed from 9 rounds to eight round so it's been convinced just a little bit slightly more accessable 2 to 6 players each player is going to be represented by a species board these species boards are double-sided so one side is going to have the human of a particular collar and the other side is gonna have the alien race of that same particular color all the humans basically act in the same particular way they all have abilities same starting stats but the aliens are where you get a lot of the special variable player powers different starting resources and so forth and they play a lot differently from one race to the next yeah they play a lot differently like Jeremy said some of them are going to involve some very different setup for sure it's not just that you're starting levels of resources and whatnot but some will start with more on the board and different things going on with them what's fantastic about this game and one of the main reasons I've always loved this game is the duality of trying to be productive in the galaxy by doing a lot of your thing as your player board because everything that you do every action that you take has a cost at the end of the realm and if you can't pay that cost you actually are eliminated from the game which happens very rarely in a game but it can't happen for those people that are just trying to expand too quickly yeah you have to be really careful because like Jeremy said you can do whatever you want but you have to there's a dynamic that exists between what's going out on here and going on with the player board because the more you do the more it's going to cost there's also similar dynamics with all of the resources in the game as well yeah it's because the resources which are your science your materials are your money also act as your population cubes so as you populate new areas you're obviously getting more resources but you're having more cost to upkeep them through the course of the game a fantastic dynamic within the game let's talk about the changes because you guys want to know what's changed there's quite a bit that's actually changed in the game in fact two pages now a lot of these things are graphical changes and we'll talk about some of those first but there are little nuance changes this game is eight years old and it's had a lot of blind place play testing with this new addition but also just a lot of games that have been played or through the year so the designers have listened much like brass of last year the game is beloved by this company and they wanted to give it a chance to grow and breathe and now you're gonna see a lot of tweaks here and there too a lot of the different formulas that you've played in the past some of the things that were maybe been a little bit powerful i've been toned down and some things that weren't so powerful have been toned up yeah and some of those changes are very basic and apply to the game in general for instance like Jeremy said earlier it's eight rounds instead of nine there's a lot of things like that then there's a two-page list of maybe over 60 different little changes this has everything from small little tweaks to how much things cost and I'm talking little tweaks yeah so a lot of these changes that we've seen really speak to the thought and a lot of the testing that's gone into this the first thing I want to talk about are the species boards you'll notice the old one was kind of gray and drab and you see the size comparison right here the board is now a longer board and not as high so it's a little bit more area above your player board to be able to grow things you're also going to notice that all your resources are no longer on your board there now on a control board that will be an actual game tray this will be a recess board all these cubes have a kind of a circular motion underneath em it's gonna have all of your different storage components or the game itself the ships that you see here are from the ship packs that were sold separately with the game these will now come with the game itself so you're gonna get all new ships you're also to get new miniatures miniatures for the galactic defense system which is right in the center of the board all of your ancient ships now these are 3d printed but these will be final ships in the game and the orbitals the orbitals are fantastic there's 3d models and they actually hold the population cube right on them which looks fantastic oh the dice are now going to have bursts on them so any of your just have a six on it will not have burst according to whatever kind of weapon that may be your ones are gonna have a blank side on them there's a lot more ship tiles a lot more upgrades on more discovery tiles there's some things we can't talk about either I can't talk about some of the stretch goals and so forth let's talk about some of the basic tweaks that you are going to see in the game the main thing that I saw and I've gone through all the different components I'm pretty familiar with eclipse is the computer terminals now in the past the computer terminals would grant your targeting systems better but they'd also help you with initiatives so certain ships would be able to battle a little bit quicker initiatives actually been removed off the targeting computers and is left with your drives which makes sense thematically now they're not as powerful as the past ones but they're still super important because they allow you to hit other ships a little bit better yeah there's also some really cool changes I spoke earlier of some general changes one of those is when you pass you're gonna flip this tile over and you're gonna be first player in the next round but in this new version of the game you're also gonna get a little bit of money when you do that absolutely so you didn't get that before so it's that much more incentive to make that a look a little bit more appealing one of the other main changes is diplomacy in the game now you could have diplomatic relationships with other players and it works in the exact same way however in the original game when you had a diplomatic relationship with someone at the table you could not pass through the tiles that they had influenced ist's on them that would initiate combat right then in this game you can actually pass through friendly territories you just can't end your turn on there yeah it makes sense the matically if you end your turn there it's gonna create conflict and also if they have ships there I believe when you even pass through there if they have ships there you're going to create conflict but it it makes the diplomacy's a little bit more thematic for sure there's been subtle changes to a lot of the different species some of the been tweaked not only with their abilities their starting resources also they're starting tiles may have been changed one of the ones I see it off the bat is the planter race has been changed just a little bit a lot of the tech tiles as we previously said the tech tiles for the computer drives have been changed there's also some minor tweaks one of the main things in the original game that people some people had an issue with with the missiles those have been tweaked just a little bit they now require energy where in the past they didn't require energy one of the other things that has changed is the reputation tiles with a lot of things in the game the distribution of those tiles has been changed as well so when you get enter combat with another player depending upon the number of ships that you defeat those reputation tiles or victory points is going to change the oil there's a whole list of chips and we're going to try to do for you guys is keep a list in the comments section of this particular video we have to get permission to do so but we think we're ready to finally reveal everything that's going to be an eclipse second dawn for the galaxy also this is gonna post right before origin so we invite you guys to come find us I'm gonna take this copy with us to origins I'm gonna try to get a plate I'm gonna try to do a live play of the game as well I'm so excited to try this new version see what tweaks have been added and see how it actually plays right how it plays out within the game you guys any questions about the game make them in the comments below I've read through the rules multiple times I know most of the changes in the game subscribe to us false on Twitter like us on Facebook and go back Eclipse I believe it's the first or second week of July yeah get excited guys eclipse second on for the galaxy we are man vs. maple and we will see you guys next time bye [Music]
