Easy TELEKINESIS Effect! | DaVinci Resolve 18 Tutorial

Okay, let's do this... This is a super simple special effect guys that  you can do all by yourself you don't need anyone   to help you but of course if you do get someone  to help you then you can get even more creative   because then you can create your own custom  special effect you know what I mean but let   me just show you how I did it and what techniques  that I used in DaVinci Resolve 18 to create this   telekinesis effect first of all what do you need  well an object of course not too heavy and a   string that's it any string will work I used some  sewing threads it's not super strong so keep that   in mind that's also why my can is almost empty but  basically any kind of string or wire will work and   what makes this effect so cool is that the can  is not an overlay it's not a separate image of   it can and I didn't have to act like there was  a can because there actually was a can and you   know the Can slightly moves it rotates a bit and  I made the can go up and down myself elf while   filming now how did I do that well the string was  of course attached to the can and then the string   ran up and over my microphone stand all the way to  the back down again under the table where it was   attached to my leg and so whenever I moved my leg  the can also moved and of course I also had both   hands free to do these weird telekinesis gestures  you know to sell the effect and then it was just   a matter of getting the hand foot coordination  just right it takes a bit of practice to you   know get it right but that's basically it and  I don't know if you noticed but I also made a   cut where I grabbed the can and start drinking it  and I'll show you later why because it's important   okay now before I show you how to remove a string  or wire in DaVinci Resolve first real quick Sound   and Music because as always also here sound design  is the cherry on top you know and I got the music   and sound effects from epidemic sound the sponsor  of this video I use epidemic sound clip   put the playhead over the start of the clip and  go to the fusion page select the media in node   and click here on this icon to add a paint node  in between the media in and media out node then   select the polyline stroke tool up here here and  draw a line over the string or wire so one click   up here and another click down here and that's  it now you see that a thick white line appears   and obviously we don't want that so all you need  to do is click on this icon right here the wire   removal tool and the name says it this tool is  designed to remove wires and strings and in my   example here it actually does a great job already  without any additional tweaking but of course it   won't always be that easy so that's why there are  all these sliders under apply controls that you   can use to fine tune the results for example see  that white spot here in that black object in the   background it should be all black so if I adjust  the distance here you can see that I can fine tune   it and the white disappears and it really depends  on what your background looks like and what kind   of string you're using does your background  move or not so you know just mess around   with it until the string is gone now in my case  the can moves and let me show you what happens   see the can moves up and the string the the wire  removal tool messes up the can so what you need to   do to avoid that is animate the wire removal tool  so that the line gets shorter when the can goes   up and it's actually really simple first move  the playhead that's that Thin Red Line here to   where the can starts moving up that's right here  somewhere then open stroke controls and right   click here and then select animate and now you  can see the white line here it created a keyframe   and every time I move the line now it will create  another keyframe so let me move the playhead a few   frames forward the can start going up so I also  move the line accordingly and see there's another   keyframe and now it's just a matter of adjusting  the line all the way up to the end of the video   clip and also if the wire moves left or right you  can adjust it and it will create a keyframe see   how the line moves with the can now and of course  you can also create keyframes for each of these   sliders if at some point you want more distance  just create a keyframe here and move the slider   and then there's sound design and first of all  of course the music now I think you can probably   hear what I was going for stranger things yeah  so I wanted 80 style synth music and it had to   sound dark and mysterious and once you know all  that epidemic sound makes it super easy for you   to find the right music all I had to do was type  in mysterious and synth and boom there's the track   that I used Temple of Runa dark mysterious synth  pop perfect and I think it really has that whole   stranger things Vibe going on now if you don't  find the perfect music track right away just   narrow down your search filter on mood for example  that always helps me to find the perfect track and   for the sound effects well that was a bit trickier  because the thing is I wanted to sell that effect   the mind control effect that I was controlling  the can with my mind but what does that sound   like right I mean I had an idea in my head but  it it was kind of abstract so what I usually do   is I start layering sound effects and so first I  started browsing through all the whoosh effects   because there are so many different types of wish  effects on epidemic sound and you can use one   type of whoosh for a super happy travel video and  another type for a dark horror video so that's why   I really like whooshes and then a second effect  that you can also use for all kinds of different   videos is a drone effect there are high drones  low drones fast drones and then for the final   result I just layered these two sound effects on  top of each other to create something more unique   something that sounds like mind control I guess  and you know what even the sound of me drinking   is a sound effect and that's it not too difficult  right now it does take some time and some tweaking   sometimes but if your background is static and an  even color then it really is not that difficult   and you'll get good results okay and now back  to that cut that I made you know when I grab the   can and start drinking it there's a cut why did I  make that cut well because of course the string is   still attached to the can when I start drinking it  and in my example the video that I made it doesn't   matter that much because I can start drinking it  with the wire the string still attached but what   if I want to put the can somewhere else or what  if I want to walk away with the can or what if the   string you know it bends a little bit and it makes  it really difficult to get rid of it in post well   for all those reasons that's why I made that cut  so I removed the string and filmed another part   of the video where I start drinking it but without  a string and then you can just just cut those two   clips together in DaVinci Resolve and then you  know at the end of the video you can do whatever   you want you can walk away with the can because  there's no string attached anymore the only thing   you have to do is make sure that your position  when you start filming the second clip you know   that it's pretty much well not pretty much that is  almost exactly the same as where you ended the the   first clip and I know that exactly the same is not  possible but when you make a smooth cut you know   when you you tweak it a little bit it will look  smooth but yeah so that's basically why I made   that cut and you can actually use that technique  to create different kinds of effects actually but   that's up to you just be creative there that's it  um thank you so much for watching I hope you liked   it I hope
