[Music] hi everyone its Donna Robertson with fabric cafe and I have a great program for you today and I ask the question just how easy are three yard quilts and one of my most popular books is easy-peasy so we're going to talk about this book today and I've got a whole bunch of new fabric to show you and I have lots of quilts to show you so stay tuned for some real easy-peasy fun now I want to point out a couple of things about easy peasy it has eight different patterns and this particular book I did with lots of big squares and no half square triangles so they're great for beginners they're also great for experienced quilters that need a quilt in a hurry so there's not a lot of hard thinking going on but they look great I got the most wonderful little letter from a lady the other day and she was so sweet she said I used to just sew squares together and call myself a quilter and once I found your books my quilts don't scream beginner anymore and so that's what I like about the easy-peasy book it doesn't scream beginner at all now when you look in the book the first two pages are your general instructions and it goes through a lot of information in here about how to enlarge and it also talks about where do you place your fabric and we're going to talk a little bit about that too as we get started every single pattern is written for three sizes so you have the you have the lap quilt you have the twin and you have the king queen so this gives you your enlargement instructions if you want to make it larger now there's a basic rule of thumb with 3-yard quilts and that is that you have three positions and every pattern every pattern I write is for 3-yard quilts so any three yards will work with any pattern so you've got three positions you'll get a black-and-white diagram that shows you where the different positions are in the quilt there's a polka dot of white and a black and that is representative of your focus fabric your light fabric and your dark fabric but because you're using exactly one yard in every position you can switch them around if you wanted your focus fabric to be in the number three position you could as long as you cut everything for that number three position out of that same fabric then we give you your diagrams for putting your quilt together I do a lot of strip piecing I can remember probably back in the 70s one of the first quilt books I ever bought was a hand-drawn book and it was all about strip piecing and I was just fascinated by that I just thought it was so cool it was like somebody had invented sliced bread all over again so we're gonna start with the first pattern it's called attraction and I'm gonna show you the quilt then I'm going to show you some fabrics that I have now remember some of the quilts that I'm showing you I no longer have those fabrics but because any fabric looks good in a three-yard quilt I'm going to show you some alternatives and hope that you can use your imagination to picture them this one is called attraction and I love this quilt because I love those colors now this is a great way to use solids sometimes you can find some great solids and you can just go ahead and buy three of them to coordinate and this is a great pattern for that so this one is called attraction can you get up close and show them the quilting pattern John in that great it's a nice modern look and very geometric as is the quilt so with this particular one attraction I picked out some boutiques for you to use this is sort of this particular one is sort of a batik look-alike so here we go so look at these gorgeous ones this one is called juicy and this is your kit number if you wanted to look for it online you can put in any one of those three things you can put in the number in the search you can put in juicy in the search or you can put in attraction and anything that has the attraction pattern will come up now remember I said you have a focus fabric and then you have a light and a dark so this would be your fun focus fabric this would be your light and this would be your dark now the way that works on your on your little legend here your focus is your number one and you can see it's where the polka dot e is so in that particular quilt it was the these were all identical tone-on-tone but I chose the number one fabric to be the the aqua color and then the light that was left over between the light green and the purple I put the light in number two and the dark in number three so on these I chose focus light and dark those are called attraction I mean the pattern is called attraction now you can get just one kit and the pattern for attraction it will come with the kit or you can ask for a different pattern down in the comment section when you check out one free pattern comes with every kit if you decide that you want to buy three kits then you can choose a book instead of the little patterns and because the traction is in this by three kids and you would get this book free instead of one single pattern all right next we have a quilt called - now - is out of the easy-peasy book as well all of these patterns are out of the easy-peasy book and this one's nice because it has two large squares that you could have some fabrics that you want to really showcase - fabrics this would be a great place to do that it also looks good with one focus fabric and a couple of solids I do not have this particular fabric but I do have one to give you an example of how you can change your your fabrics from one position to the other this one is called call of the wild and this is the kit number call of the wild is the kit name and - is your pattern now notice what happens with this particular one your lightest fabric is also your focus fabric so if you put this in your number one position you have to choose your other two for your number two position and your number three position and I did that way I was double checking myself there so we have our focus fabric when in the know we're a dark and a you have a dark and a lighter of the two and if you squint you can kind of see the difference there I just chose that gray for the background I figured I would want that one and then that leaves the red for your background I mean your other square so here's the kit so we're going to put this over here and you'll see what a difference it is when you when you do your focus fabric is your lightest color but you have a couple of other dark fabrics it just makes it pop in a little bit different way so it looks really good and once again I just used one yard of fabric for each position and this one's called call of the wild and one of the neat things about this one is that it has wolves so let's get the Wolves up here so you can see them and they're Indian Paintbrush now a selection that you have on our website at any time that you're choosing a kit you can check you can choose it just for the kit fabric or you can ask for a backing to be included today I'm going to show you some of our backings that we would include with a kit now some of these are available now probably only four or five people are going to get the backing so order soon if you like this specific backing we'll use these until we run out so this particular one is what I would use on this quilt and it's called you just ask for the the backing it whenever you choose the quilt that one's called - and let's put these over here now the next one that we're going to do we're just going right straight through the book so you can see that particular one was called - and it has those three sizes just like the first one I showed you the next one is going to be easy street now this is a pattern that I really like a lot and I've made it several times this particular one that I'm about to show you I've run out of that fabric so now I have to make it again because when people see it made up they just love it but that one is called Easy Street and hears Easy Street now Easy Street is a great one for what they call a tossed fabric so what we have here is we have direct drafts these are not giraffes these are dinosaurs I passed that up in kindergarten I think okay so these have tossed dinosaurs so you can see them and the reason is because some of your blocks will turn as you're putting it together so let's get this up here where you can see when you're making this particular one they are tossed which means they're going every which way there's no real directional fabric going on and when you make these two little squares one of them gets turned so it won't matter if you have a tossed fabric if you have a directional fabric and you're making this quilt you and you really need in your own head to have those all going the same direction it's just a matter of which way you turn this block so you pay attention to that so that you can get them going the way that you want so this one's called Easy Street all right the next one in the book and we're going to show you is called funny times now fun times is another one that's fun if you want to just use three fabrics that our tonal 's are in this case they had a little bit of a swirl in them and because it was just a plain fabric I added chenille daisies that cute so it was just a plain fabric with a little bit of a swirl to it and I just dressed it up by adding some chenille by the inch now that is one of our products we do sell it on our website and we have lots of videos to let you see how you can do the chenille by the inch you can also download the daisies and put them on any quilt that you want to they are on our website under the free goodies button let's put this up here so but John can come over and get a little bit closer because you want to see all that fuzzy chenille they have little centers that were cut out of the scraps from the quilt and you can see how that just has little swirlies in there it's just a fun quilt a great way to use up either solids or some tonal fabrics that you might have in your stash that one's called fun time next we've got skip to my Lou skip to my Lou is a fun little pattern that's almost like a four patch but it's it's it's actually done a little bit different than a four patch where you're doing long rows vertical rows and then you put them together with with a sashing now I used a really pretty Moda fabric that I no longer have but I'm going to show you a new version of this and you can see the four patches that are stacked into a vertical row and then you've got your sashing again these are all easy-peasy super fast but they don't scream beginner now I want to show you the back of this because this was a rather light-colored quilt and it had these cute little daisies on the white but when we quilted it we did it with a color thread isn't that great you can see that cute little Daisy flower that our long arm quilter put on there so this one is called skip to my Lou and now let me show you a new version of skip to my Lou skip to my Lou done in a new fabric and it's all bright and cheerful I love this particular one I love blue and yellow together and I also love green and blue and yellow together matte green so I guess that's why I blew him the other together right I do really like green and I really like the blue and yellow so this one you can really see you for your 4 patch so here's your 4 patch but they're stacked on top of each other so here's your another 4 patch all the way down in your vertical row and then we sash it and here are those pretty pretty fabrics so what's called pansy patch here's your kit number skip to my Lou is your pattern you will either get the pattern free or you'll get the book free when you buy three kits now this fabric is quite nice we'll turn it up here I love this it just looks like the wind blowing so pretty and then here is the blue now we have one of the fabrics from the kit here is your backing fabric that I used and we have that available as well so all you need to do is choose add backing and you'll get this great little yellow squiggle it could be a butterfly for you use your imagination kind of looks that's what somebody said it looks like a butterfly but it goes with the line affair so it's a perfect match for you electrical engineers out there that looks like a transformer symbol leave it to a guy or I there may be some women engineers out there that understand that kind of stuff or maybe it's a hamburger on a kaiser oh quit now keep going we have fun don't we so if you want to add the backing to this one this would be the one that will be sitting out for the next several days depending on how fast you order it we do have a couple of bolts of that all right let me put these over here gotta clean up as I go along here right the next one that's in the book is sweet times now several to show you with sweet times it's one of my whoops I missed one can we back up reroll bet okay I had another one for skip to my Lou have two more we decided we really liked skip to my Lou now remember skip to my Lou is this one that I was showing you with the four patch and then the sashing so this one's kind of a patriotic look with that one that would be great and your squares would be the red and the white if you chose fabric number one and then fabric number two your sashing would be this and you have your different stars I think that would look really cute and we chose this for the backing so you continue your star theme and you would get this for the backing if you choose backing when you purchase the kit so that one is called skip to my Lou and this one we also suggested skip to my Lou just a real quick little quilt so cute now we used to have a bug kit a few weeks ago and it just flew off the shelf everyone loved it and you can see why it's adorable so you've got these cute little butt flies and or those bumblebees are they all butterflies I guess they're all butterflies and cute little swirly and then the cute little green with the pink so this is a different colorway in that same collection and we thought it would look cute in the skip to my Lou and if you want a backing for it this is what I chose for the backing so it would be a little bit lighter but I thought that would look good on there as well still has that little flutter e look to it like a bumble bee or a butterfly track all righty so that one is I get another one for the skip to my Lou now the sweet x is next this is where we were going sweet x is it's just an adorable quilt and this was the original I don't have this exact fabric but I have a really nice replacement fabric that you could choose with this one just as cute as it can be all right this one has big 10 inch blocks and I'm going to show you several different fabrics that you can use with this one now come over here and look closely what you have are the two 10 inch blocks but we border one with your fabric number 4 2 3 so you've got the same square but your different borders and it makes a really nice look this is what we thought would be a great replacement it'll give you the same basic kind of look with the little polka dot and then we have a real sweet little plaid that goes so this would border one and then this would border the the other block that you border and that one is called woodland wonder and it has its using the sweet x pattern this is your number so that one is woodland wonder now we have another version of sweet times made up and this one are the pet portraits now this one's been very very popular it's such a cute quilt and again you border each one let's put this over here with the opposite color so we've got the red bordering one of your 10 inch blocks and your black bordering the other and here are the fabrics and this is sweet times pet portraits cute and there are your two companion fabrics that are just too fun so on an adorable one called pet portraits with sweet times now we picked this out for backing so that will carry your polkadot theme and that would be a great backing for this one and we'll put this over here we have one more fabric that we think would be adorable and the sweet times and this one's going to clash with this one so I'm gonna move this okay so those were sweet times but this one would be adorable in the sweet times as well so your big 10 inch inch block would be this and then you would border one of the blocks with your polka dot and you would border one of your blocks with the orange and I called this one sunshine so sweet let's move that up so this one's called sunshine and I thought this would be a great back for that one so it picks up that green and the big blocks and that would be on your back if you want to choose the backing in when you're purchasing your kit the next one that we're going to look at and once again all of these have three sizes written for you so whenever you're buying a book like this you're getting instructions for three different size quilts for eight patterns that's pretty good now this is a tic-tac tic-tac is made with a snowman fabric that I no longer have and I don't have a current quilt made up in that pattern so I'm going to show you one of the older ones but this is great when you have two large prints that you want to show off tic tacs great for that because it has that nice sashing that will separate them so this one's called tic-tac big 10 inch block and then the sashing that goes across and even the sashing is strip pieced so don't get afraid that you're going to have to cut all these little squares I actually strip piece them so they go together really really fast so this one's called tic-tac now we do have a fabric that we thought would look really good in the tic-tac this one's called classical jazz and has the musical instruments with a great patterned tone-on-tone that picks up all those pretty wood tones of the the golden colors and then to set off the teals it has a pretty teal with it now this one we do have this teal if you wanted it for the backing I do have that for the the backing if you chose but I also put this on it because I thought a lighter backing would look good it didn't excuse me and it's just a real subtle print that's in a cream color and again it has a little bit of the wood tone to it like the instruments so that would be a backing that we could include in that if you just want the teal write it in your comment section because I may still have that we have several books of that available and we'll be glad to do your backing in it so that one's called classical jazz right now Town Square this is another one from the book it's the first quilt that was made with for the book so you'll see a picture of this quilt here with your three different sizes and this is called Town Square Town Square has been a really popular pattern and it's great because it looks good in a lot of different fabrics and I've got I have one more to show you I was looking to see whether or not I had more than one but this one it's called Town Square it's very easy to make even though it looks like you've done something really long and hard it's not at all you're going to have your main block and then you're going to put like a sashing around it in pieces it's again it is strip pieced so it'll go together very very fast I think that's a neat contrast with the circle stitch pattern with the squares yes it is nice I like that I like that circle a lot so I tell my quilters you can use the circle anytime you want now this is the quilt that I do have the fabric for so let me show you this one this one is the pet pictures and this one has the I always say it looks like it's the block is just floating on top of the quilt so I like that I like the way it just kind of frames it and makes it kind of float there so let's put that up here and show you the fabric for that so here is your kit and this one it's called pet pictures let me turn it over so the kiddies and dog users are going in the right way alright and that is a nice thing about this particular pattern the dogs are directional but it's very easy to turn them all the same direction so this one is called pet pictures it's using Town Square and I love those colors with it and here is the backing it matches your little green flower we do have more of the green flower to put on backing so that one is called pet pictures and it's using the town square pattern we have one more to show you that we recommend using with Town Square and that's the pomegranate this one is fun and very bright and I'm going to I'm gonna change my order here okay I like it like that okay so you've got your fabric one two and three and this is part of this line that is kind of a wider color II look like this one and this is the pomegranate it would look great with this in that floaty block and then these two bordering the outside of that block so that would be called pomegranate kit number and town square so I hope you've enjoyed that today this is the book it's called easy peasy 3-yard quilts the book is $15.99 if you want to purchase it outright if you want it free you buy three kits write the name of that book in your comments section or rather than the book you can take one free pattern with each one of the kits that you purchase and there's a wafer when you go online and look you'll see where you select
