[Music] hi I'm Cindy Cloward with Riley flake designs and today I'm going to show you how to make the best little baby blanket why is this blanket so good well it's going to be made out of minke and flannel and it's so nice and cozy and it makes for the perfect size because it can be folded up and put in a car seat this one's been made out of cotton you can use cotton and Mickey but I really love the coziness of flannel so this is what it looks like when it's finished so today I've got my minke a coordinating minke with some Riley Blake flannel and I think I'm gonna make this version I love this one too we're gonna put this one aside but this one today is a gender-neutral and I'm often asked to a pre wash my fabric I tend to pre wash my flannels but minke really sheds a lot so I don't tend to pre wash it if there's red and fabrics I always pretty wash and I use a color guard when I wash it so you're going to take your flannel and lay it out this has already been cut 36 inch square that means you're gonna have extra flannel extra minky you can always make coordinating burp cloths to go with those and I do have a tutorial for that as well so you're gonna lay I tend to lay the minke on top of the flannel because this is how I sew it and you put right sides together and you're going to pin a lot cuz minke is very shifty it stretches and when you sew it your bottom fabric tends to stretch more than your top fabric so I always put my flannel on the bottom when I'm sewing these together okay so once I've got this all laid out I'm gonna start pinning and you want to pin a lot because it does it is so shifty when you're sewing two substrates together it can be a little tricky so I just pin every three or so inches and you're also going to be mindful because you're leaving a three inch opening to turn this blanket inside out okay just poke my last pin in I do mark where I'm going to stop and start with yellow pins the rest are white so it reminds you not to sew it completely shut and now it's ready to take the Machine and sew and I do take a half inch seam allowance okay we've sewed around our edges I didn't mention this before but it's important to pin in the center bow your blanket will shift hopefully a little bit less I pulled all those pins off and now I'm just going to trim off my corners and then I'm gonna turn it right-side out I find my opening [Music] now you can use your turning tool to poke out your corners [Music] okay I've got all my side my corners poked out now I'm going to smooth this all out and you get to pin again and this time you've got your right sides out and you're just pinning so your edges are all lined up so you can do a top stitch so I'm gonna pin around this entire blanket and then I'm going to take it to the Machine and do a little scant top stitch around all the edges and it will close my opening okay I also put a couple pins in the middle let's take it to the machine itself okay I've just sewn around all sides I can inspect all your areas to make sure everything got caught and I did use a coordinating thread read you could use white or whatever color you'd like but now it's ready to be rolled up and I you can add you know ribbon or trim I have a little rickrack that works out great just kind of you can add a homemade card and now it's ready to be given to it in Wow and it's just that easy to make the best little baby blanket [Music] you
