[Music] hi friends welcome to my sewing room my name is beth and it's nice to be sewing with you today if you're new welcome today i'm getting ready to mail a quilt off to a new baby this is a baby quilt i put together a little while ago and i thought before it leaves my house i'll let you know how i put it together it was really easy i took some scraps i sewed them together and then i trimmed them into six inch wide chunks i put those chunks together in long columns and then i added this white sash in between this quilt could be any size those columns could be any length it's your quilt and you get to decide pull out some scraps and let's put this together let's get started the first thing i like to do is press all of my scraps now i don't always do this truthfully sometimes i just throw the scraps on the table and i sew them together they do get pressed eventually but today i started by pressing all my scraps first the ones that i had pulled out and then i took some of the longer pieces and started by sewing them together now this right here will make at least two chunks of fabric blocks for my baby quilt i'm not sure how many i'll get out of this but i'm sure i'll get at least two since they're six inches wide it's fun to use up the leftover fabrics that are from other quilts sometimes it's the trimmings from the backings or just other things and isn't it amazing how those longer pieces all from different projects are very very similar in length in size so these are going together really nice with very little leftover now that pink is pretty bright i'm not sure i'll be using that pink but i pulled it out my rule is if it looks good on the table together then it'll probably look good in the quilt together but that pink wavy lined fabric is a little bit bright maybe little pieces of it will be okay and i make sure that my chunk is at least six inches wide and this one i think was eight inches so i'm going to have a little left over when i go to trim this green chunk is pretty big but i'm going to go ahead and use it i do like to add green to my quilts and if i decide it's too big later on i can trim it down but i think it's exactly six inches so that's kind of nice and sometimes i don't have a strip that is quite six inches so i will piece together a couple of scraps to make a six inch wide piece and the this vintage sheet and this yellow print will um add up to six inches once i have it sewn together there yeah that'll be six inches i don't know if you ever use vintage sheets for your quilts but that's a great source for fabric and some of those vintage sheets are really pretty i'm going to keep sewing some scraps together i'm going to keep making my six inch wide chunks and pretty soon i'll have enough chunks to make a long column for the first column in a baby for a baby quilt like the one that i showed you at the beginning of the video [Music] now that i have everything sewn together i will just get a straight edge on my fabric here and i will cut this chunk into a six inch wide piece and this particular one i'll be able to get a couple of nice pieces from i'll continue doing that and then i'll line them up [Music] [Music] i have enough chunks now for one column of scraps so i'm going to sew them all together and before you know it i'll have a quilt thanks for joining me today and i'll see you next time [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] you
