I will do what must be done holy mother Welcome back everyone it's Charlie I had a chance to see Dune part two This will be my review. And there is a lot to talk about. The movie adapts the rest of the first book in the Frank Herbert Dune saga, and they came back with a vengeance. So if you're brand new to the channel, be sure to subscribe to get all the videos. we use the Empire Strikes back line to describe the movie, not only because the Empire quite literally strikes back at Paul, Atrios and the Fremen on Iraq, as during the movie. But also because the original Star Wars trilogy of movies borrows heavily from Dune. and Danny, Bill knew the director crafted this movie to be the Empire Strikes Back, figuratively and literally in his Dune saga of movies. Christopher Nolan even just went off about how this movie is The Empire Strikes Back of this new Dune saga. 50 and part one was Star Wars. This to me was very much The Empire Strikes Back, which is my favorite of Star Wars films. I just think it's an incredibly exciting expansion. Basically the first dune being like his Star Wars, a new hope where Paul discovers his place in the saga of Iraq as the universe begins to seize his destiny the same way Luke Skywalker does in, whereas the first Dune movie was way more of a tone poem with some action in it. Like it was a very contemplative movie. it was mostly meant to be set up for a lot of the major wars to come on Iraq as an across the universe, with Paul getting visions of the wars that would be eventually fought in his name in the wars that he himself would fight. but the first movie only adapted. The first half of the first book, which is why the second movie is called Dune Part two, not just Dune to it's part two of the first book. and it does deliver on that big action. It's much more of a big action film. most of you probably seen David Lynch's Dune movie by now. If you hadn't before Dune part one came out, it tried to cram the entire first book into a single movie, thus wound up having the speed run through a lot of it and skip over a bunch of book material. It also made a bunch of its own changes to the original book. do. Part two also does make some of his own changes to the original book, but in general it's meant to be a much closer adaptation of the book itself. probably one of the big downers with part one that I feel like is being rectified with part two now is that it's being released first in theaters, whereas part one came out during the pandemic, everyone had to watch it at home when very clearly it was designed from the ground up visually and the sound design to play best on massive, massive screens with a massive, massive sound system, even if you have one of the best home theaters that money can buy, like it still doesn't quite do the movie justice. And it's the same for part two, if not more epic four Part two Like they cranked the scale apart one up for part two, way up to 11. So watching this movie at home will not do it justice. This is the movie that you want to run out to. Like the biggest IMAX screen you can find. There's so much you can talk about with this movie. Just in terms of 2024, it is the new peak to beat in movies. If you have a bad taste in your mouth from the Madam Web movie or from like the Argyle movie Doom part to remind you that it is possible for good movies to exist and fix that right up. if you did not like the first movie or you don't like the Dune saga at all, this movie still has a shot of turning you around a little. Like I said, just because there is so much more big action compared to the first movie. But non. Fans of Dune are people who actively disliked the slower parts in the first movie where it does feel like more of a tone poem might have some issues with the earlier parts in this film Part two The whole movie is 2 hours and 46 minutes long, it doesn't really, really start picking up until like the last hour to 90 minutes of the film. But even if you weren't hot on the first movie that last 90 minutes or so, part two is such a banger. Like it starts to cook so hard, you will be blown away. the CG is great. I know there have been a lot of movies from the big studios the last few years with questionable CG. People have been complaining about doing Part two does have a lot of CG, a lot of visual effects, but it uses them to way better effect to make as many puns as possible then a lot of other big movies that makes everything still feel very real and practical, very lived in, as opposed to, say, like Ant-Man and the WASP Quantumania, where it always feels like the characters are not on real sets or interacting with real things. sort of quantum mania was like the bottom of the barrel of bad CG in terms of really big movies, Doom part two is the new opposite of that. all the physical, close up fights were great. And in fact, I don't consider it a spoiler to call out the Paul versus Spade fight because it was in all the trailers. probably going to go down as one of the best hand-to-hand knife fights of all time. Donnie Yen would be proud if only modern Star Wars could do lightsaber fights that were half as good, they'd be really really cooking now I went to the movie knowing that they'll continue the books in upcoming movies like There Will Be a Dune Part three. But I still feel like they ended part two in a satisfying way, knowing that there would be another movie after this. there have been a couple other movies recently like Rebel Moon. Part one is particularly egregious when it comes to this phenomenon, like literally just chopping larger movies in half without giving you a satisfying conclusion before giving you the next part of the story. do in part two still ends like a traditional story, basically ending with the first book. There is an ending to the actual story. just to talk about the actors for a while. Timothy Shalom really having to run the box office right now. It is definitely his moment in Hollywood. His last movie, Walker crushing. It's still at the box office as any posting the video, the pre-sales on Dune part to make it seem like it is also going to be a banger just in terms of financials. he was solid in the first movie, but he really came into his own during part two. Like he did a great job of conveying a man grappling with the power of a God, trying to decide how to use that power to save his family, his new people. The Fremen also save the entire universe. I did like Kyle McLaughlin's version of Paul in the David Lynch movie. But Timothy shall make his much higher highs in due in part to probably one of the biggest upgrades just in terms of characters is Austin Butler's version of Fade. Most people remember the Sting version that they. He certainly was something. Austin Butler's version tries to be a little more true to the fade from the books on the page, both visually and in his personality. and he is a monster in this movie in the best possible way. and because they split the story of the first book into two movies, they had way more time to set his character up. Like one of the other benefits of splitting the movie is you get to spend way more time on all the characters, and it helps the movie greatly. then there's the Emperor and Princess Irulan The Emperor is played by Christopher Walken. So I went into this fully prepared for the more cowbell version of the Emperor, just because he's mostly known for being so over-the-top in his movies. But Dan Evil knew the director did a good job of keeping his crazy energy under control so that it works to the benefit of the movie The Emperor is meant to be a very shrewd person, but he is totally paranoid, so he's supposed to have this real crazy energy about him. in. Once you do see him in the movie, you'll understand why he was right for the role, even though most the time when you think of him, you just think of all of his craziest roles. Florence Pugh's version of the Princess was also a massive upgrade from the original version, not only because the movie spends way more time with her look, it gives her way more to cook with The script also does a much better job of showing you what she's actually like in the books, and you see some hints of that in the trailers where she helps the emperor strategize as he begins to, quote unquote, strike back, so to speak, at Paul in the fremen. so a lot of the emperor's plans come with the help of the Princess, and speaking of that aspect of the movie, the movie did a good job of balancing all the politicking, the scheming, the machinations of the books with the larger scale in action, big battles We have to talk about Stellan Skarsgard again, he was fantastic as Baron Harkonnen, just like he was in the first movie. He serves as like the real main villain. The story, even though technically the Emperor is meant to be pulling the strings in all this, if it was possible, he gets even crazier than he was in the first movie in a good way. Stellan Skarsgard said that he had to go through hell physically and mentally just to play the character, and it totally works on screen. Like literally translates And I can't say enough about Zendaya's Chani. She was a huge character in the original David Lynch version of doing so in part one came and went. She was barely in it a lot. Fans complained. The director explained that it was more of a story based thing because Chani wasn't as big of a character in the first half of the book that the movie was adapting. that was why you mostly only saw her in Paul's visions. Then again, at the end of the movie, when they actually meet on screen. Part two, on the other hand, is as much her movie as it is about Paul's journey. and she really cooks in this movie. Even if you weren't as India fan before this or you didn't really like her in the Spider-Man movies, you will be impressed by her in this film. She is a huge, huge upgrade from the Sean Young version of the character. I could go on all day about all the other actors in the movie. Like everybody is fantastic in this film. if you're a big fan of the books, their plight, couple of characters that don't get quite as much time as you would like, but the movie would have to be like 8 hours long for them to completely do the entire book. I am sure there are a lot of people out there, though, that will see this and be like, I want that eight hour cut of the movie. Like, why don't you just do another 6 hours? This? there was even a secret character from the books that they kept out of all the trailers. I won't talk too much about them now just because it kind of gets into spoiler territory. I'll talk more about that person to my full breakdown and Easter eggs when the entire movie comes out in theaters. but I will say I cannot wait for them to wreck in Dune part three in a couple of years. in seeing who the director cast to play the character. I cannot wait to see them in the next movie. moving on to the music. Just like Dune Part one, The music of Part two was amazing. Hans Zimmer is the goat. I don't think he's done a bad movie score yet in any genre. I've got like six different vinyl records just for the soundtrack from Dune. Part one. Part two will be no different. I want all those vinyl records now. I don't want to get too hyperbolic when talking about the movie just in general. But given the movies we've had so far this year, in 2024, Argyle Madam Web Real Downers. I was not a fan of either of those obviously due in part to really feels like the beginning of good 2024 movies like yeah, everybody wake up. There are good movies out there. Movies can be good. It is fun to go to theaters and experience this stuff on really big screens. this would be a good palate cleanser for people ahead of stuff like Ghostbusters, Frozen Empire, Deadpool and Wolverine. I'm sure there'll be some other bangers this year too, but at least right now, so far in 2024, Dune Part two is like the new benchmark for all other movies. This year to try and surpass. once you do have a chance to see the movie post? All your reactions in the comments below. I will do a full breakdown Easter eggs for the entire movie once it comes out in theaters everywhere.
