[Music] hey hey what is up andrew it is youtube here and we are back with another paypal request you son of a now i'm really excited about this one it's from dean java and his comment here hi i just made a paypal donation for a request i noticed you haven't done any emerson lake and palmer yet on your channel it's true i thought it would be fun if you did so my request is for 1973 emerson lake and palmer toccata it's an instrumental piece that i feel shows off what karl palmer can do dean java i've just done a quick google search on tokata because tokar is to play in spanish and looks like tokata is a virtuoso piece of music typically for a keyboard or plucked string instrument featuring fast moving lightly fingered or otherwise virtuosic passages or sections so i'm expecting a little bit of madness now just before we get rolling on today's video a quick word from today's sponsor i'm just kidding we don't have any sponsors on this video but if you do enjoy my channel and would like to see more content like this please consider hitting that subscribe and like button we're almost at 100k subs which is very exciting my eight-year-old connor he is hanging out for a play button another play button and it's my birthday soon 7th of september 25 years old remember guys direct reaction requests are via the paypal donation button and if you would like to support the channel via patreon just five dollars a month you can sign up and you get access to all the blocked videos so with that said let's check out emerson lake and palmer one of the heavy hitters kyle palmer finally on the channel tokata this is the 2014 remaster let's check it out [Music] timpani [Music] somebody [Music] so [Music] this really feels like a 70s sci-fi like chase scene or something like that because some crazy triplets going on here unusual chords and you know melodic material and i'm gonna have to check out at the end of the video how many people are in this group because it's like a different definite orchestral kind of approach to this very very intriguing i'm going to back it up a little bit so [Applause] song [Music] [Music] sound [Music] thank great snare sound there [Music] [Laughter] you know i have to say there really is probably i'm i'm thinking there's probably never going to be a good time to stop this but um i was just thinking what really the only thing that really dates this kind of crazy avant-garde i don't know through composed craziness is uh the keyboard sounds the keyboard sounds really date some of the stuff when they started getting into the synths and the what do they call that that little whammy bar keyboard thing toggle whatever that is hit me in the comments whatever that thing is called you bust those out and you've got a certain keyboard synth sound you're firmly dating things but with that said this other than the actual sound options on the keyboard it would be really hard to place this time wise i mean it could be from five ten years ago without that but super super fascinating remind me at the end of this video to see how emerson lake and palmer i'm assuming it's three people so have they just done a whole bunch of overdubs i'm going to check out at the end how many people are involved in the creation of the song this album some doctor who shiz right [Music] [Applause] that sounds to me like wooden tip drumsticks on a timpani i mean you'd normally use mallets on a timpani but the attack on the on that timpani sounds like wooden tipped just regular probably drumsticks to me [Applause] overdub gongs [Music] now we've got a roll on the gongs great use of dynamics and accents right here [Music] absolutely beautiful i'm going to back that up did you hear the intensity build you know who told that story i'm going to go back and listen to this through by the way original video link in the description of every video that i make obviously go and check it out without me talking all over it he built this beautiful story carl palmer using dynamics and intensity building up the uh rhythmic connective tissue build up build it build it what is the big contrast to all this intensity and build nothing so you've just come off the cliff and then we're starting a new section in this valley and we're likely going to build it back up again because we've still got another four minutes three or four minutes i'm just gonna go back a few seconds [Music] new story new paragraph in this uh tale [Music] i thought there was someone at the door there for a minute [Music] now that piano sound that would make it harder to date [Music] it's really got that cat and mouse chase mysterious whodunit kind of vibe hasn't it [Music] um [Music] hmm this is really like we're under attack we're in this control room sirens are going off very very visual uh kind of music this it's super super interesting lots of contrasting cross rhythms and all kinds of tonal stuff going on very very interested to see who was involved in the creation of this album three people and doing all this obviously with overdubs and yeah need to check that out the end [Music] so many ideas [Music] what a fascinating symbol sound let's just back that up listen to the sound it sounds like a china but it's uh got a really trashy uh tombow quality to it [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] a lot of drama in this music a lot of drama [Music] [Music] oh i really like how they bring it on home with the ensemble stabs at the end da da da da da whatever rhythm that was really cool really ties it up when you can go off tell this big wacky avant-garde story and then come back and just smash those stabs those rhythms really cool stuff all right i literally know nothing about emerson lake and palmer i've as far as i know unless they've got big hits that would have possibly not been on the radio or something like that i probably might not have ever heard them before this might be literally the first time i've ever heard kyle palmer playing the drums so you know what i was going to share with you guys i was going to do some research afterwards into this album into the song and um look into all that stuff but you know what you guys you guys are the experts i know there's going to be a lot of people out there watching this who are really big emerson lake and palmer fans and you're all going to have a lot to say so please do hit me up in the comment section and it's going to be more fun i think talking to you guys um about this song about this group about this drummer you know we might be heading down i don't want to i don't want to call it too soon we might be hitting down a new rabbit hole here you know is all this stuff like this or you know you get a bit more straight down the middle um structured sort of pop rock stuff as well or is it all very praggy and strange and avant-garde let me know in the comments and while you're there please do hit that subscribe button like button remember if you do have a direct reaction request maybe some more amazon legend palmer you can hit the paypal donation button hit my patreon to get access to the blocked videos and a couple of other goodies around there and you as a subscriber my channel get access to a free 30-day trial with drumeo no strings attached 30 days free to explore the site heaps of cool stuff i did have a look on that i got to be open and transparent i did have a look on there for some emerson lake and palmer transcriptions just prior to starting this video and actually couldn't find me so um you know i could have followed along with the transcription if it wasn't trumio but it's quite nice to not have the transcription here and just actually get lost in the music super cool stuff so guys thank you so much for watching i look forward to your comments and feedback on this one and i'll catch you on the next video take care ciao you
