hey guys darren benton again with performance motor coaches i'm going to do a ride-along we did a ride-along in a show hauler back uh several months ago on a it was a older body style cascadia this is a new body stock cascadia also with the allison i want to show the integration with the allison and the detroit assurance package so come on inside okay we're inside uh we'll first kind of start with just the driver basics the older rigs had a little pedal for the uh tilt and telescoping this one has just a little handle i can i actually kind of prefer the older the older little foot pedal down here but makes it pretty darn comfortable uh put this kind of wherever you might want it easy to get to you know you kind of position it so you you know see your dash layout and such we'll lock it into place the air ride seats on them they are heated as well like i said these are actually an aftermarket seat that renegade has brought in and put them on top of the factory pedestals um ultra leather that matches all the rest of furniture these guys are adjustable so if you want them a little bit further up let's roll the little gizmo underneath and basically that's kind of how they operate really easy to see out of the whole cab itself you have upper and lower mirrors i personally don't expect mine with the spot mirrors up on the hood i think they kind of look goofy so i feel like i can see everything i need to see out of here all the renegades will be specked with the back up camera and the side cameras there again me personally i'm not a fan of the side cameras i feel like i can pretty much see everything i need to see out of the backup camera and uh the the side mirrors and such but very easy to see out of one piece windshield that's new for the for the new 126 cascadia and also the 116 cascadia i said all new dash all new door panels um a little bit different seals on the windows and such but very for for a truck to be able to see out of this not quite like a class a but so many more benefits you know the safety factor uh small features like your dash air conditioner the dash air cond air conditioner and this is gonna work far far better gonna perform far beyond any type of other uh diesel pusher on the market easy to uh you know easy to read and perform dash layout and such you know just nice nice clean and then of course you know huge huge walk in to the to the back portion of that do you have steering wheel controls on here as far as your cruise control and a few other little features to be able to go through the through the menu up on the dash itself no automatic headlights no push to start i don't think you'll see that in trucks for quite some time i just really and truly think that push to start uh automatic headlights are just it'll it'll be a thing maybe in 10 15 years but it's just those are not of dire importance in this industry um you know we buy these things and we're i feel like we're pretty lucky to be able to get the cascadia in this configuration with the heavy front axle and the double frame because ultimately one one fleet company will buy uh more trucks than we will ever touch you know as far as any of the truck chassis manufacturers so happy to get that well we'll go ahead and get it fired up so the dash will dash will do some initialization um you know at times you'll hear some buzzes and bumps and whatnot so go ahead and get it started let the dash initialize we adjusted the the tire pressure sensor pretty sensitive the tire pressure sensors are actually the the monitoring system is actually built within the dash previously it was a separate bendix control system you had a little monitor on the dash it worked fine this is fully integrated in the dash kind of tit for tat the we've adjusted the tire pressure several times this morning a little bit sensitive we might have to go back for one more adjustment but it is nice to be able to have the tire pressure and the monitor of the tire pressure and the temperature monitoring on it probably the number one is obviously your steer axle that's a dire concern you lose a steer and you you know safety uh gets compromised in a in a hurry so it definitely can be a potential problem this particular shift indication shifter right here uh is the same as the old i don't know if you can kind of see that through there same as the old uh dt 12 transmission and the first time i saw one of these i knew the truck was supposed to be analysis and i saw that i was pretty pretty surprised to see that but uh this is the same shifter whether it's the dt or the allison so this kind of makes them more seamless kind of look look a little bit cleaner and nicer it is your engine brake as well so basically off one two three and it will integrate with the transmission as well start to slow the truck down does a great job even going through traffic you know just one click so if somebody pulls out in front of you don't have to press the brakes that makes it pretty handy pretty nice i'm going to give us a little air conditioning today it's a little indicator right there let you know the compressor is on we'll get that going of course you know a vast array of gauges uh and then there are electronic gauges to be able to uh broadcast up there i won't bore you with all that but basically um you know they've integrated they also didn't see this there's a little blue a blue little indicator there for your def instead of just having little dots or bubbles that'll give you a clear-cut idea of how much diesel exhaust fluid you have there makes it kind a little bit nicer and such and then you do have an indicator on your dash to let you know your engine break is on little green button right there turn it back off i said we got one tire that's a little over that 115 mark but we'll get it we'll get it dialed down back here in a bit headlights over here you pull the uh you pull the the headlight switch to be able to activate the fog lights i typically like to run the fog lights at night just for additional light just kind of right underneath here pretty simple layout elsewhere parking brake hazards just kind of your your key features there renegade is a little bit different uh on the on their uh on the camera setup so basically turn this guy on and off right here there's a little dot right there so go ahead and turn that on leave that on the only thing that's a pain like i said is is it every time you turn your your turn signal on it'll it'll interrupt that um axle locks here to be able to lack to lock your front to your back and then be able to walk left to right and then there is a switch there to be able to drop the air out of the rear airbags that's the only time that that would be exceptionally handy is if you had a big huge trailer and didn't want to have to you know jack it up manually or if you were at a slope campground you need to be able to lower the back of the coach to make a little bit easier to actually level the cap level the coach out itself a little usb port right there we'll have to get that thing tightened up a little usb port uh that integrates with the stereo itself so we're going to go for a little test drive put the seat belt on and it is imperative with these units uh you really have to cover the brake if you just lightly press the brake and put it into gear it won't go into gear so make sure you really cover the brake put it into gear and release the park brake go for a little test drive hopefully the microwave or the microphone doesn't get uh yeah so that was right that's a pretty good indication it just didn't like it i got to push the brake a little bit harder and then put it in the gear and should be good to go i'm actually going to drop this down so it doesn't rack with with the microphone itself doing some road construction here at the dealership so hopefully we can get poked out of here without having to any major fits hopefully won't clip the curb on the way up i have to get these construction guys to move a cone so the first indicator you've heard there was a blind spot monitoring as we were pulling out of the gate i caught the right gates that's what you were hearing there um if the typically the blind spot monitoring only if the turn signal is on uh will give you an indication if something is right next to you if you're just passing by something on the road typically won't give you any kind of notification engage the engine break really really smooth the allison transmission is exceptionally smooth compared to the dt dt is definitely a far cry or definitely different from the previous ultra shifts of the pass a lot smoother relatively quiet so this is the dd16 15.6 liters [Music] that's just the turn signal making racket right there [Music] we'll get out flat ground here and then i'll just i'll give it all i can you know for a 45 000 pound machine it really performs pretty darn well there's 45 miles an hour right there on the axis road [Music] that was my lane departure warning i deviated from the lane i typically turn that off there's a there's a little switch on the dash i was happy to see that with the new detroit insurance package you cannot get these things without the lane departure warning but you can turn that off so if you're in traffic you don't want that buzzing that constant buzzing if you are jumping over any kind of painted lines [Music] so we're entering the highway about 60 miles an hour right here about like driving a you know a three-quarter ton truck i get people all the time that say what's it like to drive these things and i say exceptionally easy it's pretty effortless like i said the fact that you can see down both sides even though we're 45 foot in length i feel like i can see everything i need to see especially with the backup camera so we got a little distance warning that popped up on the dash and essentially that lets me know the car that's out in front of me is going considerably slower than i am it gives me just an audible warning now if you actually had the cruise control engaged it's going to do all the work for you it'll pull back throttle and such i'll go ahead and get out around the side of this guy we'll get going i mean there's 70 like i said very effortless to be able to drive when we drove it in over the weekend it was unfortunately it was 75 85 incredibly easy it was so incredibly easy to to drive and in the past we've driven some four-wheel drives driven some other chassis and some of the m2s and while those trucks perform great they don't perform anything like the cascade does in my opinion so in order to engage the crews the engine brake has to be in the off position so we'll come along here turn the cruise on and see what it does for us actually start slowing up and it uh picked the vehicle up there's a truck pretty good ways up in front of us you can actually adjust the uh following distance see if i'm smart enough to get to that menu there okay so it says driving assistance uh 66 miles per hour 354 feet between me and the vehicle out in front of me and then there is a uh right now we're set at 3.5 seconds of distance between the vehicle out in front of me or between us and the vehicle out front you can uh you can decrease that distance to 2.3 seconds but right now it's set at the maximum 3.5 i've not i didn't have this to do anything quirky to me uh in the past uh i think probably anybody that's had an adaptive cruise has had an instance where uh the road curved and it picked up something and it engaged the adaptive crew started slowing the vehicle down this unit will in fact slow it down a little bit we're running 75 into town this unit will first decrease the throttle then it will actually activate your engine brake uh start to downshift and if need be it'll actually activate the foot brake pretty well that it's happened to me twice and they were both in road construction i was turning around and it was pretty pretty impressive it i mean it shut down in a heartbeat so it was pretty wild to experience that nothing too terribly scary but you were just it definitely caught your attention so there is a little led indicator on the a-pillar over here that lets you know if there's a vehicle that's there unfortunately it's not lit up right now let me see if i can't get a little bit closer to the wall here if there was a vehicle there it would actually be lit up it'll pick up this sign here nope just not nobody's really in the way but we'll just kind of continue the test drive a little bit impressive to have the one-piece windshield cost-wise you know i can't imagine that being too terribly expensive that was that's always been my another hesitation for the decent pushers is those windshields are so costly two and three thousand dollars and sometimes very very difficult to get the fact that uh the cascadia has been out this particular body style has been out for close to two years there's a ton of cascadies out on the highway very easy to obtain windshields not have to you know seek far and wide for one of those we got another warning i don't i don't have the crews engaged right now i'm going to go ahead and set the cruise and then i'll increase my speed however it won't allow me just because of the distance of the vehicle out in front of me so i'll go ahead and get near the lane and whatever it senses there's not a vehicle out in front of me it will start accelerating pretty rapidly or 75 right there i'm trying to get to the point where i have a vehicle next to me to be able to show you what i'm what i'm talking about so get up here and maybe you'll see what i'm talking about pull up on this vehicle here yep so that gives you a little indication there's a vehicle right there as soon as i turn my turn signal on it basically says you're making a mistake give you an audible warning and then it'll flash red there to let you know you cannot switch lanes that's the only thing that's a little annoying like i said it is the is the the warning if you are just driving off your foot feet and there's a vehicle that's running slower in front of you i'm typically super safety conscious and so i'm kind of the opposite i will typically drive by foot feet out on the highway just in case somebody darts out in front of me i feel like i can react fast faster than i can just by lifting my foot off the accelerator however when i was going through towns i would typically run my cruise just not to have to hear that elbow warning to let me know i was going too fast or faster in comparison to the vehicle out in front of me relatively quiet it's always windy in west texas this is probably but however today we're probably uh 20 15 20 mile an hour wind but really really quiet you can't hear the wind at all obviously you can hear the engine itself uh most of these rear ends you know you can actually hear the rear end i don't care what manufacturer it is freightliner pack r with peterborough kenworth volvo you'll be able to hear the rear ends of these and just kind of just the way it is i go ahead next off the interstate here on the freeway here just to kind of end the video once we get stopped here at the light i just kind of wanted to share a little drive along video with you kind of show you what it was all about i'm going to go ahead and engage the engine brake full on we exited running 65 and that was just because there was a pillar back there and my turn signal was still on i've not touched the foot brake at all we're going up to a stop light right here it's all the way down and i'll give it a little bit of break now as we come up to the light itself but there again great vehicle i'm super excited to get more of these in my hands i've got several that are coming down the pipeline i think that if anybody drove the cascadia it'd be difficult to choose another vehicle outside of this thanks for riding along i appreciate you guys always coming out make sure you guys like and subscribe this is kind of crazy video day for us i think we've done uh four or five videos between last night tonight we'll continue to do some more try to stack those videos up on uh youtube and then i do some links on facebook as well make sure you guys keep on coming back i appreciate it
