Dream Patio Makeover Before & After / NEW Summer Decorate With Me / Modern Farmhouse Patio Makeover

[Music] hey everyone i hope you're all having a beautiful day welcome mama from scratch my name is emily and today we are making over the back patio i am super excited we have never had a really nice back patio before so i am stoked in decorating this finally and being able to invest in a couple nicer pieces so we can spend a lot of time outdoors and just enjoy our land so i'm starting off by cleaning off the back patio it is quite messy from wintertime this has already been cleaned once and you would never know because that's that [Music] dirty [Music] i've been looking at you all night trying to figure you [Music] is [Applause] [Music] have you guys started enjoying your patio furniture or anything we've been doing so much yard work which it all will be very rewarding at the end but we have to start basically from scratch and it has been a long labor of a love all this dust and dirt will soon be gone we're gonna be putting grass in which will definitely help and i can't wait to not be dusting so much stuff and it will also help i think keep it out of the house as well but you know it's one of those things where you just have to spend a lot of time up front but in the end it'll have be able to enjoy it for years to come which is something we are very excited about [Applause] [Music] so now that the space is all clean i'm gonna let that dry and we're gonna start working on our diy planters so i am just using some buckets that are really large from a couple plants that we bought and i thought about using skinnier decorative ones but i don't think they would hold up with the wind and everything or the weight so all i'm doing here is taking some duct tape and covering up the holes in the planters that way we can fill them with concrete and it won't pour out so i'm doing it on the outside and also the inside of the planter super simple and then you can remove the outer ones once everything's dry we're using a fast setting concrete mix and basically pour it in and add some water and you're going to mix that up and it sets super quick i'm talking maybe 5-10 minutes it's wonderful to use for this type of project and i am also using a 4x4 treated post for the pillar for this and then i put a level on this to make sure it's level on both sides now we're moving on to the next step which is going to be adding wire so we can hang our outdoor lights and i want to thank twinkly for partnering with me for today's video i'll tell you more about them later on but you can sync all the lights together you can have them do certain patterns make your own all using your smartphone and you can of course hang these like traditional lights but i'm going a long span that's not connected to the house i'm going to be using some wire rope basically these clamp on there to pinch them together some hooks to connect to the post and the house got my drill and this actually makes like a little ring and connects things together non-permanently and then i have this tool basically that pinches this together and i'll show you how this works so i take my wire and then i put that through the one part of the clamp basically and then i put it through the other side of the clamp you want to make sure you get the right size and then i take this tool it looks like a wire cutter but it's not and it pinches it together locking it so that it can have tension but the wire does not pull out we used it for our garden system which i'll show you in a couple weeks it's really easy so i'm gonna take these hooks now and pre-drill a hole and then screw those in to the house and also the four by four posts [Music] [Music] once i got the post hooks up then i took the wire and put that all the way around and then that way i would be able to know how much i needed to connect to the other side of the house then i just repeated the process i cut the wire added the clamping system and then pinched it together and it works really easily and now i can string the lights up and now part of the fun begins where we get to add the twinkly smart decoration lights i love these i got two boxes the icicles and then i got a box of the curtains and twinkly is a new generation of today so that tool that i had earlier basically i told you that it makes like a ring i'm using that to connect the lights to the wire it's not pinching anything it just makes a little circle around that i can remove that later on if i need to you can see how it adjusts so i just did that to hang the lights up even easier did you know that you can change every single led bulb using the mapping feature to customize the color in the app or use their creative designs like the wave up down anything is possible and you can even edit those to your liking the app is your creative hub with endless possibilities and you can group lights together like the icicles and the curtains so they all have the same pattern so you can see how they just add this beautiful effect to the space and you can customize everything here in the app i am using their pre-created designs and i'm changing them you can make them softer lighter you can change the coloring it's really fun twink also has a new effects called fx wizard where you can layer effects you have layer one which is the base layer two and then layer three go on top of that and you can draw your own effect and change it twinkly makes it so easy to have a magical experience with your family all year round i know for us the boys enjoy this so much as they did when we got the twinkly smart decoration christmas tree so definitely be make this back patio just beautiful i am so excited this is a 7x10 rug and i got it from walmart as well as the patio furniture i had been wanting this set for so long and it finally came back in stock and i really love the light wicker color because i feel like it's definitely going to help hide the dust that we have a lot of right now since we don't have any grass in but also the cushions on this are a light tan color so they'll be easy to maintain and it comes with covers which i'm so happy about this set was super easy to put together it came with a ratchet tool and that just made it go even faster it wasn't complicated at all and i highly recommend this set it is super comfortable and really nice quality [Music] is [Music] in the morning [Music] i wanted you [Music] one thing i did like about this set is that you could tie the cushions in so they wouldn't fall off which was really nice especially if you have kids you know how it works with cushions [Music] this patio set is really comfortable but the other reason we got it is because it has swivel rocker chairs with it and i love that the kids have been having a blast on it but the next part to this back patio makeover is adding a fire pit i am so excited we've never had one of these and we opted to go for a propane slash natural gas one um just because we like the way they looked and it was just easier to maintain for us and i'm so happy my husband found this at costco on sale so awesome score and i am so excited they still have it too on sale and it's quite heavy so you'll need two people to move it it's really easy to hook up and it came with lava rock as well as um like a black kind of shiny rock which you could totally change out but i really like this it's so pretty and i cannot wait to sit out here and roast s'mores and everything we've already done it with the kids quite a bit of times this is their now new favorite thing to do can we turn on the fire and sit outside at night we love it [Music] so it is now two days later we had a lot of rain and so i'm finally able to start planting the planters and make them look pretty i got a couple different flowers from the nursery as well as from lowe's and so i'll put them up here on the screen as i put them in but i really like them there's a mixture of perennials and annuals so i'll have to kind of switch them out but all i'm doing here is actually drilling holes right above the concrete that way i will properly drain and to help it drain for all the flowers i am adding the gravel in there you could add any type of gravel but just so that it allows the plants to drain a bit and then i will be adding some nice potting mix on top of that for them to sit in [Music] i ended up getting it's called a honeysuckle it's like a vine and it will grow up i've never had one of these before i just thought it was so pretty and it will grow up the post and be so gorgeous and probably grow actually onto some of the outdoor lights which i think is really neat but anytime you're planting anything break up those roots a little bit that way that it causes the plant to want to expand and grow a little bit better but i love all these colors together i just think it's a perfect area for a pop of color and i've just been obsessed with planting things i cannot wait to show you the vegetable garden things aren't growing that well yet but the flower garden that i'm planning on putting in there for my cut flowers oh i am so excited so you'll see that in a few weeks i know i keep saying that but it's just taking some time to get it all done [Music] like i said it rained and so all the patio furniture actually comes with covers including the fire pit which i really liked so eventually we would like to actually have a fully covered patio but lumber prices are a little bit crazy right now so that'll just have to wait the set actually came with these two tables that you could use as coffee tables but i'm using them as end tables they're really easy to put together and i'm putting a faux plant here on the left that's from ikea and then i'm putting some real plants obviously out here as well this one came from lowe's i just loved the height and the color of it and then i added a splash of color with this beautiful plant here in the fuchsia pink and then i added a lantern from walmart i love these they're good for indoor and outdoor but i just liked the way that looked together and now i'm going to add a couple plants here on the side got some planters from dollar tree as well super inexpensive obviously and just drilled some holes added some pea gravel and then repeated the same process i did before [Music] we [Music] just we will be together forever together [Music] forever [Music] and lastly no patio is complete without some pillows so of course these came from walmart i've been collecting these i've had them in the house actually for like two months now um but i got a couple of them and i want to go get another like darker green one because i think it looks way better than the black does i love the sasha color that it adds and something else i think would be really nice is to get another set of swivel chairs for this um to kind of make it a complete square although right now it looks out to the backyard which is nice i still think it'd be nice to have a few extra seats so maybe we'll get that in time we do want to add a dining room table out here to enjoy some lunches and dinners but that will happen soon i'll be sharing that with you in a couple weeks as we work on the rest of the back patio and the yard you'll have to tell me some of your favorite essentials for the back porch area so i can get those to add to this space and overall i am so happy with the pops of color out here all the beautiful flowers and just being able to sit out here and enjoy some good family time having lunches and dinners and as the weather warms up some naps i'm definitely going to be enjoying
