back then when people were loving marvel because y'all see one of the things you forget is that this is not the first time that people like kids and adults have been into marvel back in the day the incredible hulk was on prime time yeah spun off to some things like he crossed over with thor and all this spider-man and daredevil spider-man was on prime time some of these would well actually if you really go back and look at it none of them were all that great but you know we have fun memories of some of them but the hulk was a highly rated show but yeah yeah yeah because lou ferrigno he was one of the strongest people in the world and everything so we had a good hook had uh you know bill that's been active but so cbs came in and said well [ __ ] you know if everybody's going on the marble right now we did have spider-man at one time let's go ahead and see if we can get another marble property up here and let's do doctor strange this premiered on cbs back in 1978 i think a couple of days a few days for my birthday september 6 1978 and it's not that it did terribly it's just people saw it it was like huh okay and just wondering about that life man what about their business what about their business man yeah people say you know uh don't really give a [ __ ] well you know it got killed in the ratings because it went up against roots a rerun of roots but roots was the biggest thing in the 70s oh yeah that that mid late 70s well you know why you can get bigger than roots you know why so many people you know about so many white people watching roots cause they don't want to watch this [ __ ] [ __ ] that was boring they were so boring people like you know what i'll watch you sweating [ __ ] up here i you know what i i have a nice hour of white guilt right now instead of watching this wizard right here yeah this thing was so bad that i read an article today where somebody said you know maybe doctor strange is just not meant for the big screen he's just ain't [ __ ] for him to do [Laughter] yeah man but so you know let's go ahead and get into some of the differences that we see here and more into the history of doctor strange 1978. so here's the here's the funny thing about this man because you know everybody's watching this new doctor strange movie and i'm not i'm not giving anything away here no spoilers but one of the things that people are talking about they said damn this fool is cocky man damn this man he just he's a control freak he's cocky he's full of himself always got to be running things no wonder he can't keep no women around she said uh 1978 doctors i can't keep women off me man yeah yeah i don't know what happened with that strange in the future but this strange right here hey man he's mellow yeah this strange is getting all kind of can't get no dick so she's she's been up she's been mad for a while but she's trying to get back to earth trying to get trying to get her trying to get her earth pads back no dicks you just wait but she's sent back to earth you got to possess that girl that was with doctors that you saw dr strange trying to get up on oh yeah the date which something interesting about i forgot her name but she she's still alive today she's 67 years old she used to be married to michael crichton yeah the author the author yeah he's passed away too yeah yeah and i know if i maybe it's another woman by the same name i might be wrong but i think she was married to michael crichton well she was on this show uh sledgehammer sledgehammer yeah yeah i don't know if you ever watched that it was like a parody a parody cop show yeah yeah she actually got back with some of the cast recently to do oh really to do to do like some improv things okay because the guy i'm blanking on his name who plays sledgehammer he's on succession yeah but um but she's come back to earth man to get that girl she got possessed they she got to possess that girl so that she can get to doctor's doctor strange even though he doesn't know yet that he's the son of a sorcerer so she also has to she all she also has to stop the old guy that would train him the ancient one the angel yeah she she needs to she needs to kill the ancient one but she can't attack him directly so she has to do it through that girl and to do to get to the somehow doctor strange's mixtape oh you know what i don't even matter because she sucks at her job anyway man she does suck she's a [ __ ] yeah she's she's terrible at her job she's she's been out of the game too long yeah she's scared she sucks at her job she's a she's she's a she's a bad and almost get hit by a bus and get uh doctor strange uh his his attention or something so yeah but it's like where are you going you you look like he's stopping the kid like why are you riding so fast on the sidewalk oh and let me tell you something she she can't stand black kids man honestly they can't little black kids just they they hate her as they see her just come up and start making faces at her oh [ __ ] she ain't playing yeah yeah it's crazy man and the thing is she because when she but man little black kids and brown kids hate her ass man like when she comes around like that that'll make it sound like mosquitoes are going off spider-man senses or something and sometimes like the the the sound effect don't really do that much she just sent it to staring and just patting the movie out but it's much worse this is when you realize the movie's boring when she just because all she does is stare people across the room staring people across the street just staring it's worse than ain't no sound effect no music or nothing he's like yeah i know she watching it i know she's watching me god damn he [ __ ] yeah he's like you know what this ain't much but i'm gonna get yeah that's the thing about her man all she's doing is staring all she got to do is stare at somebody and possess them or control their minds she can't even do that [ __ ] without [ __ ] up she was subcontract somebody because you know she came oh my god i'm too thirsty i'm hungry i can't do this job so she caught she tries to sub contract out to this another demon called bel belzeroth and belzeroth comes swooping in on a horse let me see yeah she keeps building yeah comes in on a horse looking all cool and everything [Music] but bring the man to me so i can [ __ ] but the way he rode in i mean rolled in out of the board on that horse you know i thought that i thought he was gonna be a badass he's a [ __ ] he's the biggest [ __ ] in this movie man all that harm all that armor all them weapons and that bad ass horse and he's the biggest [ __ ] in this movie you say you say you say just the slightest wrong thing to him and his ass is running off screaming [Music] yeah dr strange like dan that was easy he's like you know what he is he is looking like he got his feelings hurt he runs back over there rats her out real quick man she let me like he hide behind daddy's legs i'm right answering doors we're happy yeah yeah he now i will say that okay you know just to be fair because i ain't trying to make it seem like this movie is racist they actually uh they're more respectful than you would think they would be they are they are they you know they even give them a scene where he fights morgan le fay he loses or you run out of power you're like this [ __ ] was done oh [ __ ] yeah [ __ ] he's like he's like i just took that one shot and this takes a while to charge back up oh [ __ ] trying to show me other techniques but i just leaned on that one yeah i get it now he don't do a lot like when he did something got his ass whip still he lives but the funny thing he lives thinking like well [ __ ] finally i'm gonna get a promotion no man that white man came in took you out took your job doctor dr strange came in yeah he already had a father that was in the business and he yeah he got to skip us a lot you had nepotism man yeah he was he's been working hard calling him mastered he'd be looking like ain't this some [ __ ] like he dr strange quickly got promoted over him and the funny thing is he he's looking too he doesn't know what he's actually now yeah yeah the ass master the ass master yeah man yeah man you know uh i i'm [Music] i'm feeling you know at the end of the movie i'm like all right you know what i've had a good time with this this is this is so ridiculous man even the movie ends ridiculously it's like they didn't feel like it ended but then it just kept going yeah it ended because they ended with him into him like okay so you source the supreme so what's the first thing he did he goes to the park and actually started doing magic tricks with uh this [ __ ] just got the power of the universe he's out there right rabbits man the acting it is is bad there's a lot of moments in this movie where where are you staring off well he just there's a lot of moves with peter hooton who's the guy that plays who's actually gay uh oh is he no yeah that's funny because looking him up on wikipedia like you go like oh what else has he done it just said peter hooton best known for playing doctors 1978 that's it he does a lot of things but ain't been okay yeah but yeah there's a moment where he'll just he'll just turn into a mannequin for no reason like this is it right here you gonna think like oh was there something said is there something that he's looking at that's about to follow no this dude just froze [ __ ] [Music] he said what he went to a few states it looked like he just did drugs and came to see this man and that man was like what the hell are you doing here you know what's in my house in all fairness though that was a very tv seventies leading man thing to do this is this thing is just stop and say there's tv movies but i'm am i right that dude is real yeah or maybe not just go with it just let it ride let that high rise why does he have six arms right now i don't know just go with it oh [ __ ] it i'm gonna freak out he he wants to kill me okay stephen you got this i'll kill him first yeah he he wants to kill me but i'll kill him first yeah man somebody said i can hear the color blue i can see through time well there's scenes in here the acting so bad they're scenes they just they tell them to laugh it's the fakest lab you've ever heard well does that mean i have to pay for it [Laughter] you know that is the worst adr ever i know you can see that mouse moving like ventriloquist [Laughter] yeah they didn't care it was like they brought the actors back inside you gotta do these lines but you have like 10 seconds somebody just said oh hi mark i did not dub that oh that probably wouldn't even them you know y'all saw these effects in here man these effects look like cartoons i mean i think that's what they did i think they actually drew over atari yeah i think they actually uh that sorry yeah i think they drew over drew over the the film uh you know it's it's 2d animation [Music] that [ __ ] looks like hannah barbera right there man it does yeah it looks like yeah look like some other you know he-man but uh they got uh uh some of the some of the effects there are kind of cool though they got i do like because they're psychedelic but the more the more psychedelic they get the more awesome they are and that and for this time period that you know they don't okay it's aged today but back then this was probably one of the better effects when he's going through the astral plane which we showed you earlier you're looking all groovy got the belt bottoms up and it's a very psychedelic effect which fits dr strange at that time [Music] [Applause] so yeah baby you know i mean it's groovy and psychedelic but you know you think about it they've had scenes like this in the last two doctor strange yeah yeah i mean they've been infinitely better right it's still that same thing you could tell them from the first one they took that right out of it because when he first goes through there yeah he is doing the same moves flipping around and doing that i mean obviously yeah yeah you know way better you know like i didn't i didn't really like doctor strange i probably had a couple of books out of curiosity to be honest with you i wasn't into doctor strange when i was uh when i was a kid he just wasn't superhero enough for me i wish i had because today i'll look at some of those like like i was saying one of my favorite artists bernie wrightson did some issues or at least one issue i know look at some of the stuff they had done but it did get trippier as the you know art got better the story the writers got better and it was cool man so something like this right here this does hold up to the comics during the time in the 70s when doctor strange was doing all this weird stuff [Applause] right on yeah you imagine you go see an old man he gives you drugs and you see that [ __ ] yeah all right what else you got yeah [ __ ] that's what happened that old man dosed his ass when he got there what did you do to me [Laughter] [ __ ] i don't know but walk outside real oh quick you know hey like i said man some of the effects are cool right here some of this stuff we're laughing about because we're like you know we were able to sit here and look at it but really man it's this it's more boring than what uh than what we're making it look like i mean if you want to oh really yeah yeah you know that's the thing about it it's only 90 minutes long yeah and you go they really got enough for 45 minutes here and yeah it's just it's just kind of dull it's more dull than it is bad what it is they got some good concepts going well what they do here is that since they don't have that much of a budget not even for a movie because this was tv y'all remember uh they spent a whole lot of time in our hospital and this thing feels like a hot it feels like a hospital drama elsewhere soap opera no it like well saying elsewhere from 10 years before yeah you know the first 30 minutes of it yeah it feels like a soap opera you know like one of those soap properties that take place in a hospital where maybe maybe something weird happens every now and then right so yeah you know it's it's it doesn't live up to the character even though uh uh uh was his name stan lee said he really enjoyed this version but he said this back in 1985 you know what of all those those shows they had coming out spider-man and hulk this one was the closest to the comedy yeah he liked hulk he said spider-man was was a nightmare but he said working on doctor strange he said i like working on doctor strange but a lot of people just fans and just casual viewers they were like man there ain't nothing going on in this yeah i mean these chicks are fine as hell he's cool they got some cool effects going on here but even back then people just kind of tuned out they're like yeah that's what happened yeah there's nothing he said not going on i'm sorry i'm sorry yeah well i was just asking about the spider-man he said it was spider-man tv show yeah why is that he i don't know yeah i don't know man i mean i don't know maybe they didn't listen to him or maybe he just thought it was that bad because i don't i don't think he like captain america either the captain on a motorcycle captain america oh yeah there's big wings yeah there you go somebody else named trapper john md who i think yeah peter wooten was on so yeah man oh [ __ ] yeah man yeah so you know if you are curious it's really good to watch because i tell you they even have they just released it of course they trying to cash it on doctor strange that just came out so i think shout factory might be shout factor that released this on blu-ray just recently so did that yeah so if you're a collector or if you're just curious or you know you just you want to have a good laugh with some people you want to get high and watch this or something then yeah you know it's cool for that but don't expect anything like like the way we're making it sound it ain't a laugh a minute right here it's it's not you go through a lot of periods of just not a whole lot happening like you said it's like a i would say an episode of trapper john i used to watch trapper john that was actually interesting yeah uh but i watched this on dailymotion no yeah no so did i yeah it's free out there if you want to watch it i know some collectors who are buying this up right now i mean it's been released twice on vhs and recently on blu-ray i think it was well believed released on a dvd at one time too so hey if you want to check it out it is worth checking out for again curiosity's sake if you're marvel fan definitely go check this out and see what it's like uh but yeah yeah don't expect too much though it can be fun but just don't expect a whole lot
