Double Cliffhanger Recovery

okay so we are headed up cliff hanger today we've got two rigs a jk broke a steering box and a jl broke steering knuckle so we're gonna have to go in and fix the jk and drive it out then get the jail we've got the entire crew here today so this is kenny and his bronco he's running support kenny has been with me in the shop since day one and then this is sean over here he's been with me almost as long on the second yeah and this is mike kind of the new guy but we've adopted him and we love him so here we are kenny's got his bronco here aka the donkey oh yeah we're gonna run up in here we needed another vehicle and the buggy got burnt i'll try and put a clip in uh of that and and then uh the jk has a power steering box out so we had to bring bring old trusty out no fires today right my why [Music] because of this so this is called the cliffhanger obstacle right up here because you drive along right here and you drop down this little wedge crack and you are right on the edge of a cliff okay we're starting to pull the box right here pulling the shaft off for the steering shaft pulling lines so we brought our handy cherry picker [Music] there that just makes it easier to get to the bolts and everything and drop the box out oh there's the broken bits right there this is one of the most common older jk fails is that steering box sector shaft just snip it's really stuck on like most just pull really hard there you go i'll take it you got her it looks like it could go out the top pretty easy almost okay so we got the broken one out got the new one going in okay here we are bleeding the steering system we've got everything on got it all tight good to go how are we looking on fluid levels she says full all righty let's give her a start now [Music] she took a little all gonna drive this one down kenny will drive his i'll drive mine and sean will be kind of filming for this whole debacle we're about to do it'll be fun all right here we go down the hill [Music] so piece that would go in the caliper so that we can mount the caliper up on the spring or whatever and still have brakes we've got stuff i'm sure we've got stuff yeah but yeah if we just like we've got an old rotor laying around or something where we just cut a piece of it out all right mike it's still in milwaukee so this is the exact same thing as we've encountered before this u-joint breaks and then these ears bind up on each other and something has to give sometimes the ball joints give sometimes it presses the ball joints out luckily jeep engineered this knuckle to snap this is all sarcasm and i hate jeep for switching to aluminum knuckles for absolutely no reason other than to complicate things to make things cheaper and cheaper look at that easy access why are you putting a rag in there um keep the birds from building the home yes dude the diamond bill rock peckers you see they make the holes in the rocks around here that you see they're endangered because the diamonds on their bills have been harvested for many years and it's a thing watch out anyway so we're stuffing the rag in there to keep as much oil in the axle as we possibly can it's gotten old yet all right there we go all right now maybe hook one of these i got you man okay helped you help me what's the trouble kenny they don't appear to be the same thread you seem to be half 20 half 20 and those seem to be metric [Applause] some people have ratchet straps that's about right i ain't going nowhere yeah we've almost paved the road almost it's good it'll help you get some quick creed in here so [Music] it's gonna put sean's front end right here oh yeah and so he'll hold the brake and i'll dig around that way to pull it over so that his back end drops off here it's not where we want to be to get over the pritchett canyon parking lot so we've got them both out here so we came we went in we got a steering box we put the steering box on [Music] drove this one out this one is fully disabled and like i said a lot of people are going to say why didn't we just fix it on the trail you can't get these they're national back order at the moment so nobody has them so it either it either sits on the trail for a couple weeks while we get parts where we go get it we take it to the shop and it sits somewhere where it's safe and easier to work on so thank you so much to my guys kenny sean mike these guys
