hi guys it's sheri i hope that you're having a fantastic day y'all let's turn a dollar tree placemat into something spectacular stay tuned so welcome to everyone who is bringing positivity joy and a love of paper crafting to my channel i am so grateful that you are here so today we're going to take some of these awesome placemats from the dollar tree and turn them into something absolutely fabulous guys this is a great dollar tree hack video now i'm showing you the placemat so that you can get a good idea of all of the fun placemats that you can actually find at the dollar tree just wonderful wonderful placemats and what are we going to do with those awesome placemats well keep watching because it is time to get started [Music] here are some of the placemats that i picked up at the dollar tree and they just turn out beautifully on these projects so this one says live every moment with joy and laughter this one is coffee time i love it this one is the restaurant guy with the big plate of spaghetti and meatballs this one says love is a four-legged word of course when i saw this i had to buy it because i think it is just so cute and so this is the project piece that we're going to be working with today very quick project but oh my goodness the finished result is out of the stratosphere now i'm going to show you a few of the bags that i made isn't that just stinking cute these bags really do have a lot of size to them because this one when finished is eight by four by four so it is a very very substantial size bag you can get all types of goodies in this then we have the coffee time bag which i've also punched in a little opening here so that it can be carried like this this one is also eight by four by four love love love it and then i made this one just a little bit taller and this is that vinyl placemat that said live every moment with joy and laughter and this one is 10 by four by four and guys these are so addictive i'm telling you that once you see how easy this process is you are going to have so much fun making these you're going to head out to the dollar tree or wherever you can find some vinyl placemats and you are going to buy them up and make bunches and bunches of vinyl bags that can be carried this is adorable oh and i forgot to show this one to y'all i love this medallion placemat i think it is just fabulous and of course i am going to turn it into something i haven't decided yet but it is beautiful so i'm going to bring in my placemat and the typical sizes for the heavier vinyl is 18 by 12 the typical size for that thin lighter vinyl that they have is 17 by 12. so what i'm working with here is an 18 by 12. what i decided to do because the ends were rounded i went ahead and trimmed half an inch from this side and half an inch from this side so what i'm going to be working with here is a finished piece that measures 17 by 12. this is going to be so easy it is going to knock your socks off so i'm going to take my stylus and make a score at one and i'm going through this because i want to make sure i get a good impression so then i'm going to make a score at five at nine and you really have to dig in there so to try to keep it straight so that's five and nine then i'm just going to slide this one over i'm going to slide that mark that i made at nine over so that i can get my final four in and i will score this again at nine so y'all basically what i had to do because my scoreboard isn't long enough so i scored at one i scored at five i scored at nine and then because i don't have enough room to make that next four inch score i had to slide my score board over so i slid it over to five and i just made another score at nine then we're going to place it in on the 12 inch side and i'm going to make a score at 3 and i'll bring this score down as far as i can and then i'll flip it make my next score at three and you can see that i still have some of that sticker on it's very difficult trying to get it off so i'm not going to stress over that being on there so now i'm going to take my score marks just like i would with paper and i'm going to give these a burnish now this vinyl does like to return to its original shape but if you just keep working it it'll hold the shape that you need it to hold so easy y'all so i'm going to flip that bottom and go ahead and get that scored i'm going to bring in my finger blade and all i'm going to do is angle on both sides of my score marks going across that bottom and then when i get to this end here i am just going to remove this piece all together this little corner piece here and then i'm going to do just a slight angle here on this end and now we are going to use tape to hold this together y'all i did not think my tape would hold this but it actually does so i am going to take this tape and i am going to place my tape right here on this flap because this is my glue flap so we're just going to pretend put this together so this is the back and wherever you want your image to be is totally up to you normally i would have my glue flap all the way in the back but this time it's going to be on the side because i want to capture most of the wine bottle so when i put it together it's going to be like this these two side pieces here when you look at it like that those two side pieces are going to be the first pieces that we fold in so what i'm going to do is i am going to take some tape and just put some tape on one of those side pieces and then on these two pieces i will be adding full tape coverage so i am just going to take my tape and put it down and so now that we have our tape on we can go ahead and start putting this together the first thing i'm going to do is remove the tape from the glue flap and then i can bring this piece over and we're just going to get it matched and just like with any other bag that we make in this manner you can see that it's a flat fold so now we can open this up this is going to be the front so i am going to take i'll stand it up like this i'm going to take this piece that we did not add any tape to and then i'll take the piece that we did add two pieces of tape to remove that tape and then i'm just going to bring this over making sure that i hold my shape and now i can just peel away the tape from these pieces and we'll fold that piece over and then we'll get the tape removed from this piece and we'll fold this piece over told you guys it was easy then i can stand it up and i'll go on the inside with my fist and get this stuff so then because i plan on putting something heavy in this bottle i am going to take a piece of 4x4 medium weight chipboard the standard chipboard that i use i'm going to add some tape and then i'm just going to take some paper you can take some scrap if you want and i'm going to place that down and trim this out and now i have that sweet little old world newsprint so i'm going to make sure it fits on the inside and i think i'm going to have a pretty snug fit so i am not even going to add any adhesive to the back i'll put it in and then i'll press it down because it is a very snug fit and you can see that we have that base in there now we can just take this and just pinch it and so now we have this beautiful bag i am going to add handles to this one and i'll show you what i'll be using so i have some burlap and my burlap is in 12 by 12 sheets and they usually sell it at hobby lobby and so i'm going to peel away my tape backer then i'm going to add another strip of tape to the burlap because i want edge to edge coverage i'm not even concerned about the fraying of the burlap because i think it adds to the charm of my bag so i am going to peel away that tape i'm going to take this and fold it into thirds and i'll fold it over on this side and now i'll take my big old spatula and get everything nice and stuck all right y'all so i've already done my second handle and we're going to put those on using hot glue but i'm also going to accent it using those metal snaps that i love to use and there is a link in the description box for these snaps so i am going to take my handles and when i place them i'm going to place it inside just like that so i am just going to take a little bit of hot glue not a whole lot and i'm going to place that first piece in and get it stuck and then i'll take that second piece and place it in so i'm going to add just a little hot glue to this stand this up put that piece in try to match it with that first one and you can see my sweet little handle so then i'm going to take my dollar tree paper piercer i am going to punch myself a little hole then i'll use my stylus to make that hole a little bit wider because the paper piercer doesn't make a really wide hole then i'm going to take one of my little metal snaps put it in that hole just like that and now i'll take the head for that snap put it on and i don't think you can hear that snap because it kind of pushed down into that burlap so this is a great way of making sure that your handle is not coming on because not only did we hot glue it down but we're also using that metal snap so i'm going to pierce my second hole and then i'll take my stylus push it through that hole and just make that hole a little bit bigger and then i'll take my snap prong and push it through i had to make sure i went through that layer of burlap now i can take the cap and put it on and now i have that beautiful little front to my bag those handles will not be going anywhere so then we'll do the back side again i'll add my glue i'm going to stand this up so that i can eyeball where i'm putting it and hopefully i'm getting it close to where the one on the other side is now take my glue place some hot glue on this end so i'm just going to hold that in place now we can take our paper piercer and i'm just going to eyeball this punch my hole i'll take my stylus go in make that hole wider and then i'll take my little snap push it through take the head for that snap which is that little piece there you guys can't see what i'm doing because i'm inside the bag but i'm just putting that snap on and we'll do the same thing over here so i am going to punch a hole try to get it even with that one over here then i'll take my stylus and just widen that hole take my snap put it in the hole and then i'll take the head for that snap and now we have our snap front and back we have a beautiful handle on this bag like i said y'all pull it if you want it is not going anywhere and that is how simple it is y'all to make a beautiful bucket bag using a dollar tree placemat so i am absolutely in love with these little bags they are just so stinking cute and they're so durable and absolutely reusable this isn't one of those one and dones oh no this bag can be used over and over and over again because it is made of vinyl it is sturdy we have sturdy handles on here i am going to bring in those other two so that you can see if you don't want to add the handles you can just punch a hole and it can be carried just like this y'all this is spectacular i wish you could see these in person because they're gorgeous and i'm sure that you guys can think of loads of people that you can make these for so i'm just going to play musical chairs just a little bit so that i can kind of make sure we have everything in view because each one is beautiful in its own right i absolutely love this bucket bag look if you know someone who is a wine drinker and you want to give them a smaller size bottle of wine perfect bag for doing that this is great as a mother's day bag because it's all about the family and this one is great it's just a motivational bag because it says live every moment with joy and laughter so if you know someone who needs a pick me up this is the perfect bag for them and then raise your hand if you know someone who drinks coffee or if you are that coffee drinker i don't drink coffee but i know plenty of people who do including my two daughters this would make a perfect coffee gift basket you just fill it with all of those coffee goodies and give it as a gift y'all the possibilities are endless my head is spinning because i'm thinking of so many different things that i can do with these vines as i hope that you have enjoyed this super awesome dollar tree hack video you don't have to have the dollar tree placemats
