(upbeat music) (dog whining) - Hey, Becky! - Hi, Barry. - Today we give back to the pugs. - We're making them a cake. - Are you excited? - Who, me or the dog? - Amy! - I think she's excited. - Are you excited? That's an excited face. - That's a "I wanna go back to bed" face. - Yeah, I'm gonna go wash my hands. Mrs. Barry's gonna tell you what we're doing. - We're making a cake for the dogs. And it's got, what's it got in it? Pumpkin... Peanut butter... - Apple sauce. And it's got frosting and we're gonna put chocolate biscuit like twisty things for decorations. - Yeah, so almost edible for humans, apart from the dog treats that you bought. - Yeah! But the question is, Mrs. B, hello! - Hello! - That was close. Are you ready? - I'm ready. - Let's make cake. This is actually edible to humans too. - Apart from dog treats. - Yeah, well they are bacon and cheese flavoured. That's what -- right in your face. - I'm trying to read the back of the ingredients, sorry. - This is what we're gonna use, but we'll save that at the end. - We gotta make a cake. - Alright, Mrs. B is preparing the oven, right? - Yes. (laughs) - Did you just do something? - No. - This recipe is from a website called lovefromtheoven.com, that we were sent. There were lots of other dog recipes that we were sent. There was a carrot cake one that sounded good but we went for this one. So the first thing we do is mix the wet together. - Wet. - Just the wet ingredients. - Does the applesauce count as wet? - Applesauce is a wet thing, yes. - Alright, okay. - So basically anything that's not dry. So, your eggs are wet, even though that's kind of dry. The inside of the egg. - Peanut butter? - Yep. - What? - I'd class that as moist. - Okay. - Is that wet? It's kinda a bit of both, isn't it? But no, it's wet. - Okay. - In the context of this, it's wet. - Pumpkin? - Yes, that's tinned pumpkin. - Wet. - And it's wet. - Oil. - First up, your oil goes in. What the heck are you doing, Amy? - [Becky] 25 minutes. - She's going a bit nuts. I think she's excited. - Peanut butter? - Peanut butter goes in. - I don't know about that. - [Barry] Right, peanut butter, pumpkin, and oil. - [Becky] And apple? - [Barry] This is applesauce. You can buy it in a jar or you can just get some sugar and apples and boil it up. - There is sugar. I just said there's no sugar in it but there is. There's sugar in the peanut butter and applesauce, right? - [Barry] Well, not really in the peanut butter, no, no. Just the applesauce. - Sure? - [Barry] It's from natural sugars, probably and the other bits. But you love sugar, right, boy? Oh my God, I love that. (laughs) - Who, me? - [Barry] There was just an image there when you were looking at Homer as if you knew that he was judging you. - Oh. - Sorry, I had to change the frame because I wanted to get, you know, he's judging you. It's what he does now. Two eggs. Mrs. Barry's washing her hands. All the wet stuff is in there. - So we're going to give it a nice mix together. - [Barry] Yes, yes, we are! - [Becky] Ew. - [Barry] Don't worry, we don't got to eat it, the dogs are. - But I mean, ugh. Just looks a bit ... wet. - [Barry] Yeah, that's what wet ingredients generally are. What? - Ugh, I'm not going to say it. - [Barry] What, say it. Unless it's really rude. - Yeah. - [Barry] What's wrong with it? - I just got visions that this is what it's going to look like, this is what you're going to be picking up tomorrow morning. (laughs) - [Barry] We use self-raising flour, by the way, and we are using some baking powder so it should get quite a bit of rise. - It is, it's going to be a lot of cake for two dogs. - [Barry] Well we are going to have a little bit, aren't we? Surely we've got to have a taste of it. - [Becky] Yeah. - Can I just get your thoughts? Huh? Are you excited? Right! (laughs) The wet ingredients are done. - They are done, this is a really easy cake. - It is really easy. Just like a lot of cakes though, isn't it? It's the wet and the dry coming together. - Yeah. - But you're right about the colour. It does look a bit, I don't know. What colour is that, salmon? - Salmon? - Salmon. - Salmon is pink, that's orange. - Yeah, but let's not do this, let's not do this. - That's orange. - We've had this debate before. - That's like as orange as a pumpkin. - We've had this debate before where you're like yeah but you might see it as orange. - Look -- - And I might see it as blue. - What colour is my top? - Pink. - Right, what color's that? - Salmon orange. - No, it's orange. Nothing like pink. - Salmon is orange, isn't it? Salmon pink. Oh, it is, different bits. - What colour is a salmon when you eat it? When you eat, we have salmon -- - I'm not talking about cooked salmon! - Cooked salmon is pink. That's where the word salmon pink comes from. - Anyhow, pugs. That's the bicarbonate soda. And this was the flour. So we're not even sieving it. We're going, get it, wait for it, what are we doing? We're going... Dog pun. - Um. We're going ... ruff. (laughs) Sorry. - Bit slow on that one. - Maybe if you liked that dog pun, you could hit paws on the video and go back. - Well, if they did that, they'd be barking mad. - It would be a good tail though, wouldn't it? She's trying! - I'm thinking! It would be... Uh... A pug tail. (giggles) - A canine bear these puns anymore. No. - Uh... - That reminds me of a giveaway. I do have a gadget video, I've already filmed it. It's up on Sunday, right. I normally want to do a giveaway every single week. I didn't do a giveaway in it, so leave your best dog pun in this video down below. I'll pick out my favourite, message you, and you can have this very candyfloss maker 'cause it's full of sugar. - You sure there's not a missing ingredient with this? I guess it's not like a normal cake. It feels very, um... - Ruff. (laughs) - It does. - It does look ruff. - It feels very, um... - No, look, flour, soda, oil, peanut butter, apple... Do you know what? If I was a footballer, Becky, what would you be? My wag. (laughs) (applause) Was that funny? Okay. - [Becky] Look at that, it's like rubber! - [Barry] Yeah, but all cake mix is never the most appealing thing, is it? - It normally feels a lot better than this. It's like you could apply it to your face. - [Barry] This is two lined cake tins. - I'm going to evenly put this mixture, I don't know how, into the cake tins. - [Barry] Well, why don't you the spatul-- ugh! - Get your hands out! - The spatula! Sorry. - I am using the spatula. - No, you don't know how. - I'm using the spatula, I am. - Yeah, but what do you mean? I don't know how I'm going to do it, this is going to be so tricky. - Because normally it's like a pouring consistency, isn't it? - [Barry] Well, just push. Like childbirth, just push! - Yeah! - I don't know what the fuss is about with childbirth. Amy's had three litters, haven't you, mate? And she doesn't complain. She's happy with her dog biscuits, huh? Man flu is worse. - I was going to say -- - Man flu. - Says you who had a little bit of a stomach ache the other night and it was like the worst thing in the world. - We're doing a baking video! We're not talking about my stomach ache. - "My stomach is so painful, I don't know what I can do!" - I had a dinner that upset my sensitive tummy. - Yeah. - [Barry] Alright, Homer is definitely judging you now. - Judging me? - [Barry] Yeah. - No, he's judging you. - I'll do the other one with a metal spoon. - Oh, you are going to help today. - I'm the director! - Oh, gosh, you're definitely making it worse. What are you doing? - That's fine, look, that's fine. I would say that's fine. I think we're done. It looks a little ruff... But I think we're fine, you know? - Yeah. - [Barry] Alright. Are you excited, boy, huh? Are you okay? - Yes, I'm going to put these in the oven. - [Barry] Okay. So they're going to go in the oven for about 25 to 30 minutes. - Yeah. - And then in that time, when we take it out, we're going to make you some frosting. Actual frosting, how excited are you? Treats? There you go! Treats! Treats! (laughs) If she keeps tipping her head, it's going to fall off. Treats, treats! Treats! Treats! (laughs) Little update, the dogs are patiently sat there. Mrs. Barry, can you flare your nostrils? Can you go (inhales deeply) and smell? (inhales deeply) - It does smell nice. - It does smell good. Alright, it's time to get it out but it does look a little bit... We'll show you, right? - Right, let's get it out. - It smells amazing. - One. - Look, it's kind of like -- - It looks bread. - [Barry] It looks like curry. It's dry, isn't it? - Yeah. - [Barry] But don't worry, we're going to wet it with frosting. They look a little bit like scones. - Yeah, they're like giant cheese scones. (laughs) - [Barry] I'm sure the dogs will not complain. - It's a good thing with dogs you don't really have to worry about the presentation too much. - Yeah. - Right? - [Barry] So we're going to let these cool down. I'm loving the little bit of apple there. But right here we've got some Greek yoghourt. This has been chilled in the fridge, it's nice and cold, and some more peanut butter and we're going to make a little frosting to go on there. They're still hanging out. In goes the yoghourt. Boston is looking on in admiration, Mrs. Barry. - Is he? It's almost as if they know. Now I just mix it? - Yeah. And we'll probably keep this in the fridge as well to keep it spreadable once it's all blended in it. Mm, it's okay. Oh, they smell amazing. Smell that? - Mm. You should have got the chocolate doggy treats to go on the top. - Yeah, but these look cool. Mrs. B's serating. - [Becky] I'm serating. - Kind of levelling it off a little bit. It's cake-y though, it feels cake-y. Bit bland. Good for dogs, though. - Yeah, not for us. It's time to get the frosting on. What do you think, Boston? This is for you. Not all of it, though. - I think he's keen. What do you think? Huh? I'll bet they'll be like, oh, we couldn't. We couldn't possibly do that! - Okay, that'll do it. - Well, that smells better. Alright, down goes the lid, look at that! It's actually looking more cake-y. Um, shall we do just the top bit rather than the sides? - Yeah. - Yeah. - I think so. - [Barry] It looks like a big, you know the texture is like more of a scone but it looks more like choux pastry, like a profiterole or something or an eclair. - [Becky] Oh yeah, it does. - [Barry] That would be amazing. Oh, if this was like coffee or like caramel, oh. It's not. It's not, guys, sorry about that. - [Becky] Good idea. - [Barry] I love the actual like bits of peanut butter in it. It does smells like a Snickers a little bit, doesn't it? - [Becky] It does. - Oh and if you end up making this cake for your dog, tag us in pictures @myvirginkitchen of the dog with the cake, that'd be amazing. I love that. They're looking up at us going, what the heck's going on? I can just put a little pile of them there. Aww, like a little pile of stones. - [Becky] And then you can do like a little... - [Barry] Yeah, I like that. One on every edge. This might take some time. I guess we slice it up and give them a portion? - Yes. A very small portion. - A small portion. I'm doing whatever Mrs. Barry says. She's got a knife in her hand. These are our most expensive dog serving bowls. - A wedge. - Cake! - Should we, um -- - Look! Should we what? - I'm a bit worried that they're going to eat that whole. - It's fine. There's only one way to find out. Amy's a big strong -- - Bacon? - Yeah, give them some bacon. Aw, look at that. Can you imagine going to a birthday party and getting that in your party bag, huh? - Boston's right at your feet now. - They are very keen. - Get it on camera, I can hear Boston going -- - Boston's crying! Are you alright, boy? You're actually shaking! You've been fed already. You greedy pug, you greedy pug. - [Becky] You want some cake? - [Barry] Treats? - [Becky] His tail is wagging. - [Barry] He is excited. You haven't got a clue what's going on. You never do. - Stay. - [Barry] Stay. Lie down, Boston, lie down. Good boy. - Good boy, stay. - [Barry] He's lying down right on the mat, mind. - Now Amy's gonna sit. - Amy, sit. - Sit. - Sit. - [Becky] Amy, sit. - Good girl. - Good girl, stay. - Stay, stay. - Stay, stay. - [Barry] They ain't going to stay. Go! - Go! - [Barry] It's like Master Chef, go on, dogs. (laughs) Happy birthday... (laughs) As we zoom in on the pugs... Whoa! They are going right through that. - I think it's a winner. - [Barry] Saves on dog food. - Yeah. - [Barry] To be fair, that's probably cheaper than dog food, some of the dog food we get. Where's he going? - [Becky] I don't know. - [Barry] He's off. Boston's off! We don't know where he's gone. - Do you think it works if I'm stood on -- - You're stood on a stool, I forgot. Is that better? Yeah, let's do that. Alright, mate? Alright? - So this is what it's like to be tall. - I wouldn't know what that's like. Anyhow, based on the evidence of Amy's bowl, they did like that. - They did. And Boston has managed to turn his upside down. (laughs) - What are you doing? I can't -- this is weird. Anyhow, we really hope you try that. If you have got a pet, I'm sure they'll love it and we actually, I might have to do the calculation here, I think it could be cheaper than the food that we buy. - Possibly, but maybe not good for them? - No. Everyone wants a diet of cake though, right? - Yes, everyone. - If you enjoyed the video, don't forget to subscribe for regular recipes, and food fun, and sometimes lifestyle without the style. (snorts) (laughs) That was a tagline I thought I'd try! - I like it. - We've got loads of cake left so don't forget to share your dog puns. - Aw, it's just such a shame we can't eat it. - We can't eat it. - No, I don't want to eat it, not with all these dog biscuits. - Finish this video with a dog pun and I'll see you later. Thanks, Beck. - We've had a woofing great time! (laughs) There's got to be a better one than that. - Woofing? No, I'm going to leave it in.
