there's been a lot of chat recently over the future of Sergio Perez's F1 career and with this contract up at the end of the year there's one question that everyone is asking is he worthy of a Red Bull seat to answer this I'm going to give you all the facts and tell you a thing or two that will probably make you change your mind now quick parenthesis there are obviously plenty of worldclass drivers ready to take his place Carlos SS Fernando Alonso MAV ragunathan but Red Bull we need to be very careful with who they choose if decide to let czecho go only the best drivers in the world deserve a spot in Formula 1 it's the Pinnacle of Motorsports and with just 20 of them on the grid they have to exceed all expectations if they want to keep their job so if they're barely meeting expectations or Worse not hitting them at all things start to spiral fast enter Sergio Perez the pressure on the Red Bull driver has been intensifying over the past year mainly due to the sheer race- to race dominance by his teammate Max vapen more com on him in a few minutes in F1 they say You're only as good as your last race and even though Paris was stronger than usual in Japan he started last year well too and we all know how that ended it got to the point where people wanted him dropped from the team and that wasn't just Outsiders looking in no it included people inside Red Bull too and even now after a few solid results so far this year his seat still isn't safe so let's check out why this pressure is so huge all of a sudden and whether it's valid or not before I answer the burning question I'm going to help you understand a little bit more about the man himself and how he ended up at redbow in the first place Sergio's Journey began in his home country of Mexico when he started carting at age six he began winning races and finished runner up in his first year showing signs of speed from the get-go he progressed through the ranks of the Caron world for eight years winning championships and proving he was ready to make a move to something a bit more challenging czecho got his first taste of single seater action when he took part in the skip Barber National Championship in 2004 two seasons in Formula BMW and a single race in the A1 Grand Prix championship follow PS if any billionaires are listening please bring back the A1 Grand Prix he gained more and more experience but to be honest he didn't exactly set the grid a light with his results in either category maybe the signs were there all along joking aside he made the jump to Formula 3 Machinery in 2007 and started seeing some decent success he won the junior British F3 championship in his first year and finished fourth in the overall standings in 2008 but still it was enough to convince his sponsors to cough up again and bag him a seat in the Asian gp2 series for the ' 0809 season and just like that after only five seasons of open whe competition he found himself just one step away from Formula 1 not bad at all after winning two of the 11 races he jumped to the main gp2 Series in 2009 but only managed to rank 12 he tried his hand at the Asia series again for two races before re-entering the main main gp2 title in 2010 he finished second overall winning five races in the process right behind the one and only the goats Mr Pastor Maldonado yes the Pastor Maldonado beat perz to the gp2 championship but after a lot of continent Crossing and realistically performances weren't screaming I deserve an F1 seat 2010 served up a bit of a surprise I say this because 2010 saw Paris land you guessed it an F1 seat you might be wondering how if his results didn't look like he was the next Center and it's a fair question the truth is that his 5 gp2 wins in 2010 did enough to convince Saba's team manager that he was the right guy for the job he believed in czecho speed ability and approach and selected him to drive alongside kamu kabashi as a full-time F1 driver for them in 2011 Formula 1 is the dream of every young racing driver and now this dream is about to come true for me said Paris after signing to become the first Mexican driver in F1 in exactly 30 years the good news was that czecho now had his foot in the ever revolving door of F1 but the good news pretty much ended there for his first year because the car wasn't what you'd call competitive but the even worst news happened in 201 after a massive crash in Monaco forced him to miss two races 2012 was kind of to him and he drove his Saba to the podium three times over the season he nearly took his first F1 win in Malaysia but he just didn't have enough to outrace the ever impressive Fernando Alonso who took victory in the craziest of conditions still he started P9 and finished P2 to score his first ever Podium which was a shock for the small Swiss crowd putting him firmly on the map it was all starting to look up for Perez but what happened next turned the tables yet again usually when a team like McLaren comes calling you pick up the phone bend over and let them do whatever they want to make sure you're hired and that's what happened in 2013 for Paris except it didn't exactly as planned see when Hamilton left McLaren for Mercedes McLaren signed Paris based on his sber performances he would have been hoping for Malboro McLaren but instead got a miserable McLaren and found himself in a team at the lowest point in their long F1 history it turned out to be their first season without a Podium since 1980 and even though the MP 428 was hopeless peris got the sack after just one Scrappy season I mean he was probably happy to get away from that car anyway czecho then got picked up by force India in 2014 and made his way back to the podium by race three in bahra he didn't see again for the rest of the year and ended up with 10th in the standings one place better than he managed with McLaren another two relatively uneventful Seasons followed finishing n9th in 2015 with one Podium and seventh in 2016 with two podiums and plenty of strong finishes and scoring points in every single race for the second half of the Season it was trending the right way and just as people were starting to think he could could beat je for a better seat 2017 just like the drama at Red Bull these days got spicy perz drove the Pink Panther in 2017 and 2018 finishing seventh and eighth in the standing and while on paper his strong results were similar to what came in previous years these two seasons are best remembered for his intense battles with new teammates estaban oon the two were making contact on track during what seemed like every single weekend with both drivers showing that they weren't ones to give up positions easily czecher was also credited with saving the team from going under when they famously ran out of cash in a nutshell Paris made a claim against the team saying they owed him around €4 million but it wasn't for personal gain because it actually saved the team from the immediate threat of closure that they were facing all sorts of complicated legal stuff was involved but czecho said it was a tough decision that affected his mental health and his performance in the end it opened the door for Lauren stroll to cough up and buy the team Paris was given a big pat on the back for helping to save 400 jobs but he still wasn't where he wanted to be in F1 on top 2019 was a year of recovery for the team who rebranded to racing points and the only real highlight for czecho was easily beating his new teammate L stovich over the season but 2020 was about to produce something new with the controversial but rapid pink Mercedes czecho was able to put in a magnificent performance and fight against the odds to take his first ever victory at the 2020 Bing grum prey it was an example of his remarkable racecraft and determination convincing Red Bull that he was the man to replace the underperforming and outgoing Alexander album for 2021 and while it was the opportunity he had been waiting for since entering F1 it wasn't all easy sailing by now Perez had done enough to convince Herer and Co at Red Bull that he had what it took to Pilot a championship contending car and they signed him to partner for stappen for the 2021 season and he didn't have to wait another 10 years or even 10 races to win his second F1 race because he won the 2021 aaban Grand Prix on just his sixth red ball starts but the next time peris Shan that year was in the final round in Abu Dhabi putting on a defensive Master Class against Hamilton and helping Max get back into the race and Championship contention at that moment oh Teck is a legend absolute animal it won Red Bull's praise but it was obvious that Max was the faster driver throughout the year faster than czecho that is relax Hamilton fans I see you hovering over that subscribe button already the 2022 season brought New Hope for Paris with brand new car regulations and to be honest it started pretty well for him he took his first ever pole position in Saudi had strong finishes in a lot of the opening races and won in Monaco which was the highlight of his F1 career so far but as the season went on the gap between him and Max widened and even with some more strong finishes and another win in Singapore it was only good enough for third in the standings by the end of the year but this was still just his second year with the team and he looked more competitive than he did in 2021 so along with plenty of other people I had higher hopes for a pareis title fight in 2023 sort of like how I'm hoping you'll subscribe so don't let me down because Perez well the good news is that the 2023 Challenger was one of the fastest cars ever seen and his title challenge stayed alive through the start of the season the bad news is that he couldn't drive it as fast as his teammate and that title hopes only lasted five races vapen was 0.495 seconds faster than Paris on average in qualifying over the year in 0.45 seconds per lap faster in race Pace even Toto had to jump in saying he cannot comprehend the size of the Gap czecho did win two of the open in four races though in embaku he was ahead of Max in his strongest weekend yet beating him to both the Sprint race and the Grand Prix wi but Max took this personally his dad Yos claimed that Max was absolutely after Baku and said I am not going to get beaten by him ever again this season and he wasn't lying either because Max went on to completely destroy Perez for the rest of the season the Miami Grand Prix was the turning point where he was clearly outclassed by vapen in the race this crushed his confidence as it became blindingly obvious that the Dutchman had a grasp on the rb9 that Perez couldn't even comprehend let alone Matt sure beat Perez instantly began feeling the pressure brought on by a sudden lack of pace and the mistakes started to roll in a bit of bad luck didn't help but he failed to make Q3 for the following five races which is damn right unacceptable for a driver in the fastest car in F1 history on top of that he only managed five podiums in the remaining 17 races while the stappen Cruis a victory in every single race bar Singapore at the next round in Monaco he crashed in qualifying and ruined his weekend finishing p16 in the grand great an fb1 crash in Hungary started his weekend off on the wrong foot contact with Hamilton in the Sprint race in Spa led to a dnf a dismal weekend in Japan saw two bouts of contact firstly with Hamilton and secondly with Magnuson with the latter being a shockingly late overtake attempt that peris had to take full blame for and the worst moment of all came in his home race in Mexico City where he managed to dnf before he even made it through the first Corner again he was at fault and he was devastated after such a poor mistake in front of his home crowd after the race his statement I saw the Gap I went for it I risked it too much but I wanted to win today showed how desperate he was to regain some of the confidence and respect that he had lost as a driver throughout the season instead the two dwindled even further the four races of 2024 have been okay for czecho but haven't done much to convince anyone that he'll be a title Contender come the end or even the middle of the season the conversation about who will be in the second Red Bull seat in 2025 certainly hasn't died down either and with paris's contract up at the end of the season it's a valid question so has Paris done enough to earn a second Red Bull extension well let's look at the team for a second they already have Max so they don't really need another driver on his level not that there are many available anyway and they certainly don't want anyone who's going to challenge him too much as that only creates unnecessary trouble that can spiral out of control ask 2016 Mercedes or Worse again 2007 McLaren so maybe just maybe they'll be happy to keep Perez he's been a brilliant teammate to Max allowing him to shine and break record after record this has made it a lot easier for them to win the driver's Championship as tight battles between drivers like sener and Prost Hamilton and rusber and even L clar and SS make it far harder even if I definitely prefer it but what they do want is someone who will finish every race in second just behind Max or pick up any victories that happen to slip out of Max's reach and I think that if Red Bull's car is outstanding peris has a better chance of doing this for example he finished second in three of the first four races this year but when the car isn't perfect he struggles a lot and this is where the problem arises with other teams like Ferrari and McLaren showing very promising signs already this year and proving that Red Bull might not be as Invincible as they seemed throughout 2023 they really need a second driver who can secure consistent podiums the constructor's title and ideally that competition crushing one two in the driver Championship can they genuinely count on on Perez to do this I don't think so he seems to crack under pressure as we saw with all the mistakes I mentioned in 2023 a driver in a top team or in F1 at all for that matter needs to be extremely consistent too which Max is and Perez just isn't on a great day he can match and if he's lucky beat Max but on his bad days his performances are tough to watch if Herer and Marco if they're still talking that is decide that Perez needs to go there's no shortage of quality driv is ready to take his place Carlos signs and Fernando Alonso come to mind and maybe even Yuki sonoda who's upped his game this year already czecho better be ready to up his game too if he does want to stick around because at this point to be honest he just isn't doing enough sorry Serio there's no shame in not being able to match vapen barello couldn't beat Schumaker botas couldn't beat Hamilton it doesn't mean they're bad drivers it just means they're not the best at the moment though Perez is just too far off at least not contributing to how Red Bull is ruining F1 and making it a bit more exciting for all of us like Zack Brown said if they had two sergios in the car with all due respect this Championship would kind of be wide open Zach speaking facts he's right though and it's why I made a video breaking down their success and how they're able to be so damn good every weekend so if you want to hear all the real reasons click here to watch it now
