Red Bull has won 41 out of the last 50 races in Formula 1 for Stafford takes the lead he takes Victory mappen leads the world championship yet if you look at any of the race highlights you'll barely even see a Red Bull can you imagine any other sport football for example where Messi would win the World Cup but barely be shown on screen with fans attention being on teams battling for third and fourth place sounds absolutely ridiculous right yet that that's exactly what's happening in Formula 1 and what's been happening for the last two seasons so what's truly happening here and what effects is it having on the business of Formula 1 why does this keep happening to our beloved Sports and most importantly how can this be fixed this is the story of how Red Bull is single-handedly killing Formula 1 gentlemen a short view back to the past Red Bull's first involvement in Formula 1 can be traced back to 1995 when it sponsored the salba team the Red Bull Racing Team joined the Grid in 2005 after taking over jaguar and the rest is history the key move from this year was Red Bull hiring the highly regarded and already successful technical director Adrien Nei more on him later after a few slow years they got their act together and by 2010 had a car good enough to win a world championship in fact they won both the constructors and drivers championships that year and then they did it again the next year and again and again by the end of 2013 they had won the double 4 years straight with Adrian Nei designed cars and Sebastian vettle at the wheel but when the regulations changed in 2014 binning the naturally aspirated V8 engines and introducing the V6 Turbo Hybrid power units everything changed for the Milton Kings based Squad their dominance ended and they struggled to fight for race wins consistently placing the blame mostly on the underpowered Renault hybrid unit that was powering their cars but after seven very long years is everything changed in [Music] 2021 the 2021 season was one for the ages one to tell your grandkids about one with an ending so controversial it made Senate and Prost 1989 Suzuka Fiasco look timid in comparison so what exactly led to this and how did it shape F1 today well the 21 season featured one of the most dramatic hardfought impressive jawdropping and in intense title fights in Formula 1 history maybe even the most intense ever Lewis Hamilton and Max for staffin battle helped Formula One exploding popularity around the globe with viewership figures interest and general awareness of F1 skyrocketing with the help of drive to survive on Netflix F1 was having the time of its life this was all well and good but there was one big downside nobody told f1's new fans that this year was unique it was special and as much as we'd like it to be it was wasn't the norm now you might be thinking how did Red Bull close the gap in 20201 with Mercedes being the dominant force from 2014 through 2020 Red Bull had a lot of catching up to do and while they did work tirelessly on their design engineering and testing it just wasn't enough to take on the silver arrows that was until the FIA and F1 stepped in and delivered a deadly blow for team Toto a new regulation as small as it may have seemed on paper totally turned the tables in terms of competitiveness for the 21 season it changed the rules surrounding the car's floors with the aim of cutting down Force by around 10% to make the car slower to get technical for a minute they made teams create a diagonal cutout in the floor ahead of the rear tire reduced the width of the rear brake duct winglets and reduce the height of the strikes in the diffuser simply put these changes hurt the cars that were designed with a low rake philosophy namely the Mercedes and favored the cars with a rake design namely the Red Bull sound controversial yet what came from this was a Mercedes and a Red Bull car that matched each other's Pace at virtually every track creating the insanely dramatic season that ended up giving Max for stappen his first F1 world [Music] championship but the real winner was F1 their total TV audiences for 2021 was 1.55 billion yes billion which was a 4% % increase from the previous year the title deciding showdown in Abu dhab pulled a crazy 108. 7 million viewers which was 29% higher than the same race in 2020 and in terms of specific countries the biggest game was in the Netherlands no surprise there with a whopping 81% increase with the USA second growing 58% so with all these new fans on board surely F1 would provide as much entertainment in 2022 right well not quite [Music] the buildup to the 2022 season had fans excited as they awaited the brand new regulations bringing a fresh look to the cars it was promised that the new design would allow closer racing and with the cost Gap in place should create a closer field overall this all sounded well and good and to be honest the start of the 2022 season was looking promising Mercedes appeared to have dropped the ball with the new regulations and a shocking upset for the team that have been so good up to this point meanwhile Red Bull and Ferrari emerged as the two fastest teams with the tussy shouting this will be our year with slightly deluded and optimistic undertones for the 15th consecutive Year sorry ragi but their hopes and dreams didn't seem too farfetched as they took the fight to Red Bull early on when in two of the three races Red Bull had also suffered a devastating double mechanic dnf in the season opener and another for Max in the third Grand Prix in Australia was this going to be a year where not only speed but also reliability proved vital in the title fight it sure looked that way at the start but Red Bull quickly fixed their car's W took off running and never looked back they proceeded to win 16 of the remaining 19 races that year with Max foren responsible for 14 of those the pace was there for Ferrari creating interesting qualifying sessions and slightly less interesting races but dubious strategy calls and poor driver errors made Red Bull's job a lot easier on track after the summer break the wheels well and truly fell off the scooteria wagon and the title fight was all but over in total the Bulls won 17 out of those 22 races that year in a dominant Display of Power all looked calm under control and cohesive at Red Bull basically the exact opposite of how they've looked recently so by the time 2023 rolled around we were all praying to the racing Gods to see less dominance they must of Mard us though because what we got instead was something even more ominous see when the new regulations were announced people were excited to see different cars different styles of racing and most importantly different teams and drivers on top but most people were sleeping on one man and that man's name is Adrien neie being the chief technical officer of Red Bull he's basically in charge of Designing the entire car sounds like a lot of responsibility but not to a man who's won 12 F1 Constructors titles and driver's championships with cars he's designed along with countless other major races and championships outside F1 but there's one key element that links Nei Red Bull's current dominance and the current regulations and that element is ground effect when the current regulations were announced neie must have thought that it was his birthday and Christmas rolled into one because after almost 40 years ground effect was coming back to Formula 1 in a big way this was good news for the Englishman because he happens to know a thing or to about ground effect in fact he graduated with first class honors in Aeronautics and astronautics at University in his entire thesis was written around the phenomenon of ground effect by combining his studies with his experience designing ground effect cars in the80s he and Red Bull had a massive head starts even after ground effect got banned he designed many more F1 cars whose strong points were largely diffuser or other arob based Innovations take the Williams fw1 17b or Red Bull rb6 as example two big brain moment cars designed by the man himself simply put the man is an aerodynamics genius but his story wasn't finished yet as if the Red Bull's 2022 Challenger the rb18 wasn't fast enough once they knew he had a year under their belts with it they went to town in 2023 they produced the rb19 a car fast enough to win 21 of The Season's 22 races is yikes we were all hoping that the other teams or at least one other team would step up to the plate and deliver a Red Bull beater but it just didn't happen they proved to be too strong for the might of Ferrari or Mercedes who were the most realistic hope for the F1 fan base to spice up the competition it turned out to be Aston Martin who gave the blls the best run for their money and even the reason for that was slightly worrying they had hired Dan Fallows from Red Bull a man who saw their designs from the inside and was able to take some ideas and knowledge to the team in green but for the most part Max V up and drove with undeniable speed precision and most importantly consistency and was Miles Ahead of the competition there was some potential for a title fight between him and his teammate Perez with czecho winning two of the first four races but the hopes of an INT Team Battle quickly faded and Perez's Pace seemed to Disappear by just the fifth race of the season in Miami even as the order of teams changed behind them with different teams and drivers fighting out for second place the stens victories just kept on coming the Singapore Grand Prix wasn't their finest moment though the street tracks curbs forced them to raise the ride height of their car and it didn't react kindly they were way off Pace thanks to the new setup and didn't even end up on the podium Carlo signs took the only non- rable victory of the year but after that it was back to business for the Dutchman the record breaking year saw Max claim his third Championship with ease and he broke a couple of records in the process he catapulted himself to third on the all-time race win list he broke his own record for most race wins in a season increasing his 15 in 22 to 19 in 23 he broke the record for most consecutive wins taking 10 in a row he scored the most points in a single season by a driver he became the first driver to lead over a thousand laps in a single season he and peris secured red bu's first ever one two in the dri Championship he also broke the records for the most consecutive wins from Pole 16 and most wins from pole in a season 12 most consecutive races as a championship leader 39 most consecutive points scored most pit stops by the winning driver in One race most Sprint wins in a season is there any need to go on and if you think your son's boring well you're not the only [Music] one there's proof that it was boring to watch too and this had a KnockOn effect F1 fans voted with their wallet eyes time and whatever other things F1 had a choke hold on over the past few years see the viewership figures and general interest in F1 took a huge fall during 2023 people started to say wait a minute this isn't as exciting as the 2021 season or drive to survive or the 2022 season and that wasn't even that exciting anyway there had been dominance before but it was never this bad in the United States for example the average TV viewership figure dropped 8% in 2022 that's over 100,000 people less meaning millions of dollars lost in ticket sales advertisement revenue and TV money the addition of the vas street race helped boost this number two meaning most of the others had fallen even more and the Miami GP something F1 fans would be falling head over Hills for saw a 24% drop on us TV in 2023 compared to the previous [Music] year but F1 and its fans have one thing in common both want to see a tighter Grid in 2024 Red Bull might have pulled a Blinder and created a car that's even faster than its predecessor but is it as reliable and while it's not a huge surprise that they've made improvements in Pace the way that they've done it is pretty crazy they've gone in a different direction with their car's side pods a move that raised questions in the pre-season we've wondered if they would taking a massive risk and if this decision was going to lead to complications them losing their spots at the front of the grid and we still aren't sure of the answer in the Australian Grand Prix we watched as verstappen's rear right break began to fail just two laps in leading to a devastating dnf and handing the lead an eventual win to Ferrari's Carlos Saints so at this point just four races into the record breaking 24 F1 has given us a glimmer of hope who knows how long it will last but at least right now we're not confidence of who will be lifting the trophies come December maybe they've traded being a source of reliable cars to a reli able source of controversy look we all love Formula 1 but if we're being real sometimes we ask ourselves why do I love it do I still love it why am I still watching it any Seasons like 2023 are to blame for us questioning our interests in the series the lack of a title fight and even the thought of a battle for the race lead most weekends leaves a lot to be desired for the current ERA of F1 we've seen before namely Schumaker at Ferrari and Hamilton at Mercedes but none were as pronounced as this Schumaker had the likes of hackin kard monaya barello and even his own brother keeping him honest in that period Hamilton had rossberg vetor Ricardo botas and vapen taking race wins every now and then too but at the minute it's all ven not even his teammate is coming close eh czecho good job on the Straits but seriously this whole era of supermax when will it end these past few years have made me hate him Red Bull Formula 1 and Motorsports in general well maybe that's a touch too far but you get where I'm coming from there's no doubt that people are tired of the same old same old every weekend race wins seem predetermined before fp1 even kicks off and F1 is feeling the effects too say a prayer for F1 social media content creators and commentators on your favorite F1 stream who try and keep it interesting and excit fighting before being slapped with another Sunday afternoon snoozer it's also apparent that the newcomers to Formula 1 are discovering that they have an interest in Motorsports not just Formula 1 for example this year's Rolex 24 at Daytona the imsa sports car urance classic saw its biggest ever crowd the world Insurance championships Lamar 24 hours sold out every single one of its 325,000 plus tickets months ago and that race doesn't even take place until June it's almost as if the racing in both of these series is insanely close and it goes down to the last lap in almost every race so it's clear that F1 is losing fans to other series and that's far from ideal for them so should everyone look at stepping in to reduce Red Bull's advantage in some way even if that's against the fairness of the sport I mean they could ban Adrian yui and sabotage their wind tunnel or take a more realistic approach like unfreeze the current engine regulations for example this would give Rivals another area that isn't Arrow to make gains with to try and close the gap to the Bulls should they open up the rule book to allow more Innovation or should they call up Bernie and ask him if he still has those sprinklers on order because artificial wet races sure would be a quick and easy solution if you want to learn more about Bernie the man who literally owned Formula 1 for decades click right here and thank you for watching
