[Music] hey everybody welcome back to the channel IND dwellers today we're diving deeper into Fallout 4 and taking a look at nuk World DLC exploring how it may seamlessly fit into The Narrative of the game particularly from the perspective of the Vault dweller let's discuss whether the DLC could have been better integrated into the overall Fallout 4 experience this review is mostly done for the vanilla game perspective rather than the moded one and also this quote unquote review will be rather quick it's a small video and it's just to pitch in that food for thinking uh for the viewers commentators and anybody else who might be interested in this now if we look at followup 4 from vanilla game perspective the game intr uces players to the role of a vault dweller emerging from Vault 111 into a post-apocalyptic Wasteland after being frozen for two centuries and um seeing their spouse killed and child kidnapped the main game focuses on the theme of survival rebuilding Society moral choices looking for your family and possibly as the main character acknowledges trying to cheat time and get their family back together the N World DLC however takes players to a post-apocalyptic amusement park filled with new quests characters and challenges as a old dweller are emerging into the Wasteland the transition to becoming a Raider in NCA World actually seems pretty jarring specifically to me I don't know maybe other people have a different perspective on this the whole pondering thing about the role of nuk world DLC in the bigger picture of Fallout 4 as a game came to me when I was attempting to change things up a bit with the start of the game and went to nuk world before doing the rest of the game's content and it made me realize a few things so as I have said as players are accustomed to the role of a vol dweller to transition to becoming a Raider in Nuka world may feel jarring and out of place it did for me anyway from a perspective of a vault dweller the shift to a Raider lifestyle in Nua world can feel disconnected from the main storyline of Fallout 4 the player's character is established as a hero seeking to find their missing son bring Justice to the Wasteland rebuild settlements and help Preston Garvey maybe the sudden pivot to Leading a gang of Raiders may not align with the players's initial motivation and choices how does this shift in game play impact the player's immersion and connection to the the game World well it kind of doesn't unless you already play as an evil character who decided to join The Institute there is absolutely no establishing step as to why you suddenly become a Raider it just happens and the Devils expect you to go along with it it happens completely out of the blue the sudden shift drives the DLC to come across as very awkward because it seemingly forgets the character's Origins and choices you have made throughout the base game and maybe even the far Harbor DLC it almost screams at you that it was a quick cop out for the devs for robbing players of a true evil play style in the base game so Bethesda just decided to throw out this DLC for the players to leave them alone if Bethesda approached the introduction to the DLC differently it would have made a world of difference in my opinion this was the perfect opportunity to do a Skyrim reference for example and play play out like the player character has been kidnapped and imprisoned by the Raiders and then Gage approaches you with a plan to overthrow cter and promise you to let you go free but then you get wrapped up in the story of the DLC and move on from there alternatively the other way to address the disconnect between the Vol dweller narrative and the Raider Centric focus of the DLC is to consider an alternative starting option what if players had the choice to begin the game as as a Raider instead of a vault dweller setting the stage for different gam playay experience from the start or realize that the pro protagonist is a descendant of a world dweller kidnapped as a child and besides the plot of the DLC to take over the Commonwealth they also explore the his or her past and their true Origins how would this alternative narrative impact the players's journey throughout the Fallout 4 in NCA world and subsequently the rest of the game that being far hard DLC mechanist and so on I've mentioned this in my recent Fallout 4 review that both DLCs forget the origins of the player character but NAA world is far worse than far Harbor in that regard I really wish our base game choices carried the weight and the consequences into nuc World DLC for example we would be scolded by the base game faction where we subsequently have a choice to betray them inside with the Raiders or engage in an epic battle with the faction of your choice into taking over the parks sitting up settlements in these parks and maybe faction outposts all over the map if you really think about it taking Parks back for the gangs is a giant waste of time since they never do anything with those Parks other than just chill by the entrance they never fortify them they never build any kind of Town inside it they never recruit any new members nothing it's just stays the same why were they after these Parks is a mystery other than just to put you through a torture of taking them back none of the parks ever benefit you or the gangs in any way yes you get the loot from the chest that the gangs deposit for you but otherwise it's like nothing there really to it to it the DLC gives you an impression that you're leading Raider gangs that you are engaging in ruthless tactics that you are Conquering the settlements and presenting ethical dilemmas that challenges the player and their perception of the character but in reality you do none of that it's all surface level flu and an illusion what Bethesda should have done was set up systems where you dispatch gangs to take over the settlements without you give us an option to either build gang towns ourselves or design the settlement on paper and then the game would just bring it to life uh for us while we're busy doing something else give each gang an integral part to play all three of them I mean instead of just killing one or two of them off during NAA World story give us an option to recruit new gang members then culminate the DLC by us taking over Diamond City and or good neighbor as a true finale to Conquering the Commonwealth unfortunately none of that ever happens by examining the integration of Nuka world into Fallout 4 Universe we can assess how the DLC expands on the lure and World building of the game does the reader Centric focus of n world at depth to Fallout 4 narrative or does it feel disconnected from the established themes and storylines how could the DLC have been better integrated to maintain the continuity with the main game and far Harbor DLC and the perspective of being the Vault dweller the Nuka World in Fallout 4 attempts an interesting challenge in terms of narrative aspect with you taking on the role of a morally questionable character but it fails ultimately to deliver this potential in full it's supposed to provide you with an option of being evil but again ultimately falls short and often feels almost forced into the setting of The Base game unlike far Harbor DLC Nuka World lacks cohesive continuity in the frame of Fallout 4 as a game I feel like a DLC should be supplemental to the Bas game or other DLCs and expansions but ncar world comes off as completely Standalone and feels very awkward as a result in the way NAA World reminds me of Atlanta's DLC in Assassin's Creed Odyssey where it seemingly is a cool place it feels different it has ton of content for you to explore new weapons new characters so on so forth but when you step back and look at the content from The Game's overall perspective DLC feels very segregated and disengaged NCA world has great foundation for having been an awesome and truly in-game world changing expension for Fallout 4 but it lacks a lot of mechanics to make it happen so as I said this is a quick video not much particularly to dive in because narratively NC world is Bare Bones if it if you can even say that it has a narrative I just wanted to share my Impressions about this specific DLC for Fallout 4 because how out of place it feels and I wanted to know if you as viewers feel the same please let me know in the comments if you agree or disagree with me I'm always keen on reading other people's thoughts and perspectives even if I disagree with them personally so feel free to comment away like And subscribe if this video is the type of content you enjoy I have more reviews on the in the lineup and more games I'd like to experience and explore do please join all the
