Dodgers CHOKE OF THE YEAR vs Giants? Marcus Semien WALKS OFF A's, Shohei Ohtani (MLB Recap)

the al and the nl they're gonna be wild for the rest of the year now before we talk about the walk-off victories from yesterday because that's usually what we do to begin recaps i want to go ahead and break down this giants versus dodgers game because it was madness you have austin slater knocking in the first run of the game he knocks and starting pitcher anthony descliphani and both pitching staffs were locked in yesterday descriphani throws six shutout innings only allows two base hits buster posey he almost turns the double play of the year in the ninth inning but he tagged the same guy twice instead of tagging the first guy and then justin turner after turner left the base chris taylor ties it up in the ninth brandon crawford in the 11th saves the game as he throws home and is able to get out the runner and then unfortunately buster posey later on in the 11th inning grounds out with the bait no he doesn't trey turner botches it and he hands the giants a w on a silver platter he plays exactly like that at second base and mlb the show his defense is just not very good so san francisco there now one game ahead of the dodgers and the rest of this series honestly is setting up to be an all-time classic the yankees and the blue jays both came away with walk-off victories yesterday let's talk about the yankees first and foremost because they were playing against the orioles and for whatever reason they're not as good against the orioles as they were in the past giancarlo stanton was somehow fooled on this pitch but still hit it 424 feet dj le mayhew this sacrifice fly was big time but he wasn't done we'll talk about him later nestor cortez he dials in and hurls nearly six innings only allows one earned run with seven strikeouts and then trey mancini the comeback player of the year was the only run for him on a home run and jorge mateo he ties it up versus the team that drafted and traded him to the oakland athletics this one goes to extras where ryan mount castle he has a mickey mouse rbi and then dj lemay who drives in a mickey mouse rbi of his own i call it that because the runner on second base the ghost runner it's really stupid tyler wade glides in and then you have stanton walking it off he now has a 143 ops plus in the second half the man has been a machine and moving on over to the jays versus the a's this was for sure a candidate for game of the year let me break it down kind of piece by piece matt chapman doubles in two early and to oscar hernandez who has been scuffling he answers back with a two-run bomb then matt olson and kemp they make it six to two and before you knew it it was eight to two and then vladimir guerrero jr starts the rally he singles in an rbi alejandro kirk walks in a run and then lourdes gurille jr he ties it up with a grand slam in the eighth inning and the craziest part about this game he was not the player of the game jordan romano he usually has some movement on the fastball but he throws a meatball right down the middle to mark canaso so at this point you're thinking the momentum is on the a side there's no way that the jays can come back well george springer doubles to put two on for marcus simeon who hits his 34th home run that is a career high a walk-off three-run tater against his former team the oakland athletics they gave up on him they did not want to resign him instead they went with elvis andrews so the jays are on a two-game winning streak and we'll talk about the wild card after the mariners game actually we'll save the wild card talk for after the red sox game but let's talk about the mariners real quick because they also played in a very close game you have tom murphy walking in a run in the first inning and mitch haninger puts his stamp on the game with a two run bomb and someone needs to find and arrest jared kellnyk needs prison time after this lefty lefty crime good for him he has been we've mentioned this a lot not very good but he is starting to hit lefties a little bit better so that is a good sign it is five to one going into the seventh and as we've been saying all year arizona and the astros those are the two teams that refuse to give up they always seem to make it a game even though they're losing by a lot so they tied up and then jared kellnet clutches up again he bloops one over to left field before the game-winning rbi and then johann ramirez he saves it as the mariners win 6-5 and before we talk about the wild card standings let's talk about red sox versus cleveland cal quantro came into this game with a sub 3 era and yeah it was not that after the game schwarber hits a lead off home run for his 29th bomb of the year and then former cleveland legend kevin plawecki hits a home run as well then you have jay ram and jonathan arau's trading home runs so it's three to one going into the seventh and austin hedges does it again one of the worst hitters in baseball history ties it up for the second time in the last week against the boston red sox and i think that made the red sox mad though because schwarber he goes off for two rbis he hates cleveland fans dating back to the 2016 world series and then hunter renfro smashes a three-run hr no hr does not stand for home run that stands for heart ripper because this game was over so the mariners are now four games back of second place in the wild card the jays somehow lost the game they're five games back to the red sox and the a's after losing yesterday are three games back so here are the wild card standings you have the yankees the red sox and then the other three teams i mean again just like we're going to talk about the national league both wild card races are insane the astros versus the padres now we're going to talk about some nl wild card races so houston goes down one to nothing in the fourth but that did not last for long as carlos correa smokes a three-run shot for his 21st home run of the year later on tommy fan doubles in trent grisham and then you have austin noah tying up in the sixth but blake taylor came in massive for the astros he strikes out eric hosmer with the bases loaded kyle tucker is having a breakout season just after breaking out in 2020 he has a two run home run in the eighth so he now has 23 home runs 75 rbis and a 133 ops plus and he's only 24 years old you have jake myers getting a lucky rbi single this probably should have been an error off the glove of eric hosmer and then pressly comes in for his 23rd save so the padres have lost two games in a row and their wild card hopes are i mean they're still there but it's not looking as hopeful as it was a few weeks ago the cardinals versus the brewers have a day saint louis nolan arnotto he rips a two-run home run and then adam wainwright with the base is loaded he delivers he helps out his own cause with an rbi single and side note this was the 300th time that wainwright and yadier molina were pitching to each other in a start i think that is top five of all time bolin arenado does it again later on in the game he is up to 29 home runs 88 rbis and a 3.6 war so he is doing no ornato things not to the fullest extent in terms of like ops that he did in coors but he's still very productive harrison vader breaks it open on a three-run missile and christian yellish somehow gets ejected after a lorenzo kane strikeout i don't know if i'm going to show that or not but it did happen wayne wright lowers his e-rated 2.91 after throwing nearly seven innings only allowing one earned run then to end the game the reason why it went up to 15 runs you have tyler o'neil yada or molina and edmundo sosa all homering as they beat the brewers they beat the as they beat the brakes off the brewers freddie peralta was on the bump too so it's not supposed to happen this way but they did it now speaking of having a day and scoring 15 runs that's exactly what the tigers did yesterday as harold castro rips a two-run double jonathan scope hits his first home run i think in almost a month he did that in the third inning jameer candelario hits a home run and that was answered by jonathan india who continues on with this rookie of the year campaign he had a nine pitch at-bat that resulted in a two-run home run and then it was all tigers from there victor reyes drives in one but then an heir brings in two dustin garneau had his best game as a big leaguer he hits a two run shot in the sixth inning then you have miggy and jamer making it ten runs garneau does it again and then robbie grossman he finishes off the scoring with a three run and no doubter actually they scored one more after that but who really cares all we really care about is taters so honestly i'm not sure how many of these guys are going to be in the 2022 lineup but if they're doing this against the rep another high scoring game we have the marlins versus the phillies and then we'll talk about the braves game as well as the mets and then we'll go over the wild card but the phillies their winning streak was halted yesterday after jesus sanchez belts a three-run home run off of kyle gibson matt verling i didn't even know he existed but he ties it up on a double and a triple but do you remember that one scene from benchwarmers with a kid screams it's a hit parade but yeah that's exactly what happened in the sixth inning for the marlins as they score seven runs on a whopping zero extra base hits so like we mentioned a million times in the last few weeks the nl wild card race is going to be spicy and the mets they're not out of it either after everyone thought their season was over but we'll talk about them after the rockies versus the braves game ozzy albies returns after hitting himself in the knee on a foul ball so he hits a home run and then chuck nasty he wants one as well both teams they trade jabs back and forth you have rogers and chuck nasty making it three to two in the third inning and then riley singles and freddie freeman to tie it up but cj crone stay hot kid after winning player of the month or he's going to win player of the month in august i think he already did actually he brings in the winning run as the rockies bullpen shuts it down so the mets and the cardinals were the only teams in that nl wild card race to escape with victors yesterday so they gained games and that's because the mets beat the nationals 6-2 michael conforto has been much better as of late he singles in javier baez and then you have soto who cannot get to a fly ball in the third inning so that's an rbi triple and then rich hill or they call him dick mountain he dominated throwing six shutout innings only allows three base hits and then edwin diaz turned into a lose diaz yet again soto rips the home run and then riley adams ties it up on a wild play andrew stevenson took out the catcher but the mets they stay positive alonzo rips an rbi dowel and extras kevin polari stays hot by scoring two and then jonathan vr ends the day with four base hits he has been a godsend for the mets all year long so the dodgers they're like 13 games ahead of first place for the wild card but then four games separate second place from sixth place so the mets are four games back of the wild card the cardinals are one and a half games back after the reds padres and phillies all lost i'll throw it up on the screen right now because yeah it's insanity ohtani faced off against the rangers yesterday and he got hit by a comebacker but he escapes the jam no damage done in the first then you have gosselin and walsh teaming up to score a few runs on two different rbi singles and then the lead is gone after jason martin turns on a 96 mile per hour fastball in the second but then later on he strikes out on a 100 mile per hour fastball in the fourth inning he did that twice yesterday otani did stasi shows off the wheels for a go ahead rbi single and ohtani strikes out eight on 117 pitches that was a career high so he is now nine and one with the 2.97 era and he leads the league in slugging he has 22 stolen bases 42 home runs the guy is just incredible the raise versus the twins randy or rosa arena drives him an rbi on a fielder's choice then scores on a triple from kevin kiermeier gandhi diaz grabs an rbi right before nelson cruz knocks in joey wendell nelson cruz has a 205 batting average and a 90 0ps plus for the race he's been horrible in my opinion meadows drives in his 94th rbi and that was pretty much it for the game byron buxton grabs a web gem in the fourth inning and michael walker he had seven strikeouts and six innings but yeah they're easily the best team in the american league the royals versus the white sox it started off nice as lurie garcia shows off the hops but then the royals show off the bops okay shut up you have michael taylor and andrew benateni making it two to nothing and monday rips a two rbi single up the middle three score after an error from the center fielder luis robert after we've hyped him up all week defensively michael taylor knocks in two rbis later to finish a three rbi day and dallas kykel sucked yet again one year after having a 1.99 era he is now sitting at a 5.22 era and a 5.26 fit those are both horrific and then last but not least the cubs versus the parts michael hermosio have yourself a day he knocks in two rbis right before frank schwendell and austin romine add to that lead and then michael leaves the entire field man this ball was absolutely demolished almost 430 feet now the cubs defense did cost alec mills a quality start he had five runs but only two of those were earned you have alford and park teaming up to tie it up at 5-5 but then frank schwendell he has been a madman the rookie of the month in august he has stayed hot in the month of september so the
