[Applause] and the clock strikes midnight and the crowd is cheering the clock it was kind of like woodstock i was at woodstock and it was cold and rainy and miserable but when you look back on it it was wonderful [Music] dodger stadium especially in the post season is an electric place the crowd was really energetic we felt good about our chances that night and so it all began it was one of those do or die games for us you know it's just kind of that mindset of just trying to win one game i remember feeling like he still had a chance but definitely not knowing how crazy it was gonna get these were the two best teams in baseball this was not going to be a cakewalk and we're going to the 11th inning he swings and misses and on we go to the 12th inning and we keep on going to the 13th inning chops it to the right side gonna be a tough play [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and we're suddenly watching the longest world series game in history then there was a 14-inning stretch that made you feel like you're in the twilight zone you could roll a bowling ball literally because everybody was just fixated on the game the crowd was apprehensive they were nervous ordinarily we use about 14 000 15 dozen balls a day that night we used 27 dozen which is almost double well now the longest game in world series history is on your television and the game went on and on and on it seemed like it was never going to stop choo-choo game bottom up the 18th inning ivaldi comes up as a dot has this magnificent relief appearance facing max muncie who knew when max muncie joins the team nobody heard of this guy who's max muncie it sounds like some prize fighter from the 1920s they both had their own kind of crosses to bear a volley with injury and muncie trying to prove himself they both rose to the occasion you know each and every kept going back out there and it just seemed like he was never going to come out it didn't seem like he was ever going to stop throwing 100 miles an hour he was just you know dominant at 10 after five walker bueller threw the first pitch 560 pitches later max muncie hit the last one flies one in the air to left-center [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] i think the biggest thing i tell everyone is i wish i remember more of it you know from the moment that ball went over the wall for about 30 minutes i don't really remember what went on that was that like everybody was standing nobody was sitting mack muncie comes in saved the day and there was a roar of the crowd like you've never heard before what a game in the 18th inning over seven hours after it began max muncie is the hero what a night i don't think that anyone thought we were gonna go 18 innings that night it'd be hard to break that record that one i think is gonna be fine for quite some time if size matters this is the big kahuna left center field will hit back at the wall and the lowest world come to an end [Applause]
