you're going to start fly training in the near future but not just yet and you want to know what can you do right now even before you start training so that you can get a head start on those flying lessons and start the right way that's what we're going to talk about in this video [Music] first if you're new here please like sub and that notification bell on if you like the content here it really does help the channel i've got about six tips for you in this video about how to get started on your flight training the right way and uh yeah let's just dive right in the first thing that i think is very important for you to decide or know before you even step foot in an airplane to train is know why you want to be a pilot and don't click away just net just yet don't think that this is going to be a super woohoo thing it is just really important so that you can go through your flight training efficiently because if you know that you want to fly for fun then maybe it's better for you to go part 61 instead of part 141 but if you want to fly for a career then maybe part 141 is the way to go do you already know how you want to do your time building if you have to get to those atp minimums do you want to be a flight instructor well if you already know this then you can start taking notes from the flight instructors that you have take note of what they l what they do that you like take note of what they do that you don't like you can start making your lesson plans when you're already going through your commercial license for example so all these things if you know those up front that means that you can go through your flight training more efficiently so it's important to already kind of have an idea of what you want to achieve so that you can make a game plan dir for your flight training so that you know what certificates you need to earn that you know how much money you will potentially be spending how much time you will potentially be spending and it's also a great conversation starter when you actually go to the flight schools that you're interested in to tell them what your goals are and see if the flight instructors and the way they teach aligns with your vision for your flight training if you're feeling a little bit stuck in how to even start to think about your flight training journey then i created a little bit of a playlist it only has four videos in it i will link that up here and also in the top comment below it's a great place to start number two that i would like to suggest is start familiarizing yourself with the aeronautical knowledge that you will have to know when you start flying or when you become a pilot too many student pilots actually start their flight training with not even knowing with what a rudder is or what a aileron is i think it's important to know these basic things before you even step foot in an airplane [Music] before you start flying it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the basic concepts of aerodynamics for example lift drag weight and thrust it's important to know the four fundamentals of flight flying straight and level climbs descends and turns learn about your standard six specs of flight instruments or if you are intending to learn in a plane with a g1000 start looking into some videos about that system [Music] and of course another good way to familiarize yourself with these things like the layout of a cockpit and what you'll be seeing when you're flying is by using a desktop simulator the faa has various free publications online that are very helpful to get you this basic knowledge one of the things that you can look into is the p hack the pilot handbook of aeronautical knowledge another thing that you can look into that i have right here is the uh airplane flying handbook or the helicopter flying handbook if you are going to be a helicopter pilot both these i paid for because i wanted a hard copy but you have the pdf for free online on the faa website i'll leave a link to that in the top comment below as always that top comment is going to be packed with information i have already spoken about part 141 and part 61 and these are examples of fars federal aviation regulations and it is important for you to familiarize yourself with these fars from the start it could be something that you can look into before you even start flying to this end i would recommend to look into a recent far aim the federal aviation regulations and aeronautical information manual it's a really thick book you don't need to know all of this by heart but it's a good place to start gaining some information on what the regulations are when you want to fly this is a 2019 version just make sure that you have a version that's up to date for your current time i personally also have an electronic one that updates by itself all the time which is nice but sometimes it's nice to have a hard copy i'm just old school like that i guess the parts in this far in the federal aviation regulations is kind of like the chapters another example of it because we already talked about part 141 part 61 which relates to the type of training that you do but another part chapter that's important for you is part 91 and that is general operating and a flight rules the aim aeronautical information manual part of this book gives you basic flight information and atc procedures and that is a great addition to your p hack and that airplane or rotograph flying handbook that we already spoke about the manual contains basically all the fundamental knowledge that a pilot needs to know to safely navigate the airspace and safely navigate airports in the us the next thing that i think is good to do before you start fly training i think we're now at number four right let's see yes yes yes yes we're at number four and that is to get your medical before you start flight training it would be a bummer to spend money on flight training and then to find out that you will not be able to hold a medical and that you spend all that money for nothing i'll leave a link to the faa website where you can find your local ame down in the top comment below next thing is to get in the habit of keeping an eye out for the weather what is it doing are there thunderstorms coming is is it really cold and you might encounter icing things that might be important for your flight that's what you can already kind of start keeping an eye out for basically what i'm saying is get a head start on learning about different weather phenomena especially those that can be hazardous to your flight so like i said we're talking about thunderstorms low visibility icing turbulence things like that during your flight training you're going to have to learn about the atmosphere you're going to have to learn about weather patterns you're going to have to learn about weather information sources and honestly weather the topic of weather is something that most student pilots struggle with including myself it was one of the most tedious things to learn so why not get a head start on it before you even start flying and then when you're doing all this studying anyway why not think about getting your written test done before you even start flying i've said it in a ton of other videos before i just think it's a good idea to have your written done before you even start flying so that you have more mental capacity free to learn the ins and out of actually manipulating the machine and not having to worry about passing that written test that written test will be valid for 24 months so you also give yourself a little bit of a deadline to complete your flight training in which i always work better on a deadline you can basically start your ground school at any time there's many options that you can uh choose from such as m0a king schools gold seal i mean there's a ton of options out there i'm still toying with the idea of doing a comparison between maybe four or five of these ground school options if you are interested in that then please let me know in the comments below because that's going to take a little bit of time to make that video and a little bit of money too because i have to get all those courses but i will definitely make that effort if there's enough people that are interested in it so let me know in the comments below and next to just the ground school options there's a ton of options that are specifically geared towards that written test prep and then we're talking about asa and gleim for example shepherdaire is an app that is very popular as well and to be able to do your faa written test you're gonna have to have a cfi endorsement in your logbook or if you complete one of these written test preps then they come with a certificate in the end that you can use instead of a cfi endorsement so you don't even have to see an instructor in order to get that written test done in order to apply for your faa knowledge test you nowadays have to apply on the iacra website first and ayakra stands for i'm gonna have to read that uh your integrated airmen certification and rating application it's basically the website of the faa where you apply for all your tests it used to be only for your practical tests but now you also have to apply on that before you do your written tests and as with all the other links i will leave a link to that in the top comment below if you are working on your private pilot certificate then i do understand that all of this can be a little bit overwhelming so i do have a playlist with four videos on how to get started i'll leave a link up here top comment below as well as i have the private pilot study companion that i created so that you can keep track of your progress and know what to expect in order to help you study for your private pilot certificate i created the private pilot study companion it outlines all the private pilot eligibility requirements what you are expected to study and what you can expect from the private pilot training in addition to this it contains checklists to help you do your logbook audit and to make sure that you have everything you need when you are going to go on your check ride i really believe that this can be a really good help for you in your private pilot studies and yes you can also find a link to that in the top comment below and of course those checklists that are there in the study campaign are very helpful especially when you go on your check ride and the check ride is a topic that i'm going to be talking about in my next video and that video is going to be about the worst check ride that i've ever had and that video is already online and you can find that video in the link up here if you are a member on the channel you have early access to that video if you are not a member yet and you want to become a member of the channel to get early access to videos and also other perks then make sure you check out that join button on the homepage of my youtube channel and then you can see how to join and if you don't want to that's fine don't worry you're not missing out on anything on the channel and those early access videos will actually come out later and in this case the video about my worst check ride ever will come out on wednesday september the 2nd wow september already this year is flying by and trust me i am ready for this year to be over i'm pretty sure you feel the same way and with that thank you so much for watching i know your time is valuable and i do appreciate you spending that time on this channel stay safe and i hope to see your smiling faces in the next one [Music] you
