(van door slides open) (upbeat music) - Oh, I did not mean to sleep in that much, I was trying to wake up in time for the sunrise, get good lighting, do a nice little hike before it gets hot. Failed. Now, I'm filming with the DJI Mini 4 Pro right now. My goal is to actually try to film the whole video with this camera, or at least the majority of it so that you get a sense of what it looks like. Specs are only as important as how good the camera looks. And right now everything is just default settings. Right, so default color. So now I'm gonna go ahead and reposition the drone's camera. That's one of the nice things about vlogging on a drone is that it's very easy to reposition the camera. I would say the downside of vlogging with a drone is that you could probably hear the propellers in the microphone I'm wearing right now. So if I get closer, yeah, you definitely hear it right? (drone propellers whirring) But you know, this is the Mini 4 Pro, the sub-250 gram drone, so it's not that much weight that it has to lift off, relative to other drones. So it is actually really quiet. So now that I'm all nice and soaked in sunblock and also got a hat, got water with me, microphone, drone, I'm ready for a little venture. I don't know, I kind of want to climb this thing, I guess. It's not really a climb, it's just more of a hike. That is one of the nice things about drones is it's easier to scout things. So I mean, this would be kind of cool to be up here. How high up is that? This is just under 140 feet. I don't know why I always do these hikes in the middle of the day when it's just as hot as it gets. If I waited just a few hours more or woke up a few hours earlier, I would be chilling. Whoa, look at my tan line on my leg right there. I must have been, whoa, that's gonna like blow out the shot. One of the things I really need to do is find a way to clip this controller onto me so I can use both my hands. But anyways, what do you think about vlogging with a drone? I mean, this is definitely a more interesting angle than just me wearing a helmet cam, right? It is kind of telling me to hurry up and land this thing because the battery is getting low, so there is always that aspect of it. But you know, honestly the battery life on these, really solid. Swap out this battery real quick. But how cool is this? I'm just vlogging with a drone and all of it fits into this bag right here. I got extra batteries on me so I could keep flying. This is all just still standard color and everything so I haven't changed any settings. Exposure is done auto. One other thing I would love to have different about these controllers, is instead of having to screw and unscrew your thumb sticks in, I wish that it could just fold in itself. So my TBS Tango 2, that has like a little pullout and folding mechanism that I use for my FPV drones. But the awesome new feature with this drone is the sideways sensor. So let's just say you're just kind of getting your epic shot and you're like ooh, and you don't realize that you're right next to the mountain. It yeah, it just stopped by there by itself basically. You can see there's a rock right there that I did not crash into. Lemme test out the backwards sensors. Right here hopefully, yep it stopped. It's like, "Nope, not going further back." Okay perfect, so backwards sensors check. It's doing pretty good honestly. It definitely helps that these mountains have contrast. You know, there's a lot of details so there's a lot of things for these sensors to kind of pick up. Oh yeah, it just stopped itself right there. Oh dang. Dang, that was actually pretty close, huh. It did it with pretty good confidence actually. Now you should never fully depend on these sensors but they definitely can save you. Whew, all right. Check it out, we made it to the top. (upbeat music) I cannot wait to take a shower. Whoa, there's a big gust of wind. The drone's doing this. The shot is actually looking okay. I'm sure you'll see a little bit of the movement, but you know, these Minis actually perform pretty good in the wind. Zoom in. 3X digital zoom. Hello. Or if I just zoom out and then just in post crop into 3X, I mean, maybe it'll look pretty similar. This is 3X digital zoom and this is basically just the wide angle but cropped in, 3X in post. So does it look better with the digital zoom in the camera, or does it look the same as if I were to just crop it from a 1X? Oh you know what they should do is, this is the bag that comes with the drone. I would just love to have like a clip on here so I could easily just go, (imitates clipping noises) hook it off, be hands free for a few seconds, pick it back up, do that kind of stuff. Everyone loves hands-free, you know? Camping out in the desert definitely gives you a big appreciation for, like things like air conditioning and cold water. We are now in, it's kind of like windmill city where it's always windy here. But yeah, check it out, the drone seems to be doing all right. I mean, it's definitely struggling a little bit because of the wind, but it's able to push through it. - These things are always, always surprisingly light. - Yeah, 249 grams. - Every time, every time I hold one, I'm just like, "Damn, it feels like a bag of Cheetos." - Also, we have this DJI ND filter set right here. It's 16/64 and 256. That's a pretty strong ND filter, but when you have a fast lens like a F1.7-- - Yeah. - And you wanna get that shutter down, it probably is the right strength actually out here. Because it's like shooting with a prime wide open. Another upgrade from the Mini 3 Pro is we get HDR up to 4K, 60 frames-per-second. Before we had it up to 4K 30. - Yeah. - So, we just get more HDR goodness. But compared to flying your Air 2, are you feeling like you're missing something? - [Frank] No, it feels good, it feels the same. - Flies just as good, yeah. - Yeah, it feels the same. This is awesome, it's just, it's incredible for the size. - And also check this out, wide-angle lens. So in a way it is kind of like having multiple lenses. So I think I do have to take off the ND filter for this. So here's a little split screen between having the wide-angle lens on and off. I feel like any change of field of view you could get optically is awesome. - Oh, oh, oh, oh, that bird almost kicked your ass! - People are gonna be like, "Stop harassing the birds." It's like, "No, the birds are harassing me, I'm trying to get away." (laughs) Just having the wide angle is cool for sure. The only downside is I can't have an ND filter on, with it. I think it'd be really cool if they came out with like a tighter version of this. Like a 3X. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - I'm gonna go ahead and go D-Log M, because we do get 10-bit, it'll give us a lot more flexibility in-post. How's this footage looking in D-Log M? Bird is, look at that, this bird is totally coming after me right now. Look at this. (heavy rock music) I will say that's probably one of the downsides of having a Mini that's small, is that the birds want to attack it. You know, and then an Inspire, the birds are like, "I ain't messing with that." But we have a new version of Active Track, 360 Active Track. This thing here on the left is what's different. I guess I could just be like, "Go on his right and go outwards." This user interface itself, I do like it. And as he speeds up the drone keeps up with him. And there's quite a few obstacles on the side of him. Oh, I think it might've just lost him here. Oh wait, will it find it? I'll be really impressed if it found him. Oh, I lost him there. And I do still have composition control over where I position him. So I could have him off to the top-left like this, or I could swing him over to the bottom and then bring him over to the right of frame. And it will hold that position. And these drones have had those smart features for such a long time. But if you don't have obstacle avoidance sensors on the side, I mean, it's kind of stressful. And of course if you're in sport mode all your sensors are automatically turned off. But even in normal or cinema mode, you can go ahead and turn off your obstacle avoidance sensors. And that could be useful if you're trying to go through a tight gap or something like that. I wonder if I could get it to crash into this post right here. It's like, "Nope, will not do it." This is an obstacle that I don't have that high hopes for. Yeah. (laughs) It just went straight through it. These are the worst in FPV, because you can't really see them until the last second. Yeah, so around thin wires, power lines, thin branches, you definitely don't want to be reckless. Look at it though, dodging all these obstacles while flying sideways. I mean, obviously with the Mini 3 Pro, if I were to do the same thing it would've crashed very quickly, because it literally has no idea what's on the side of it. But also in slow-motion we now get, oh 1080p to 200 frames-per-second. So before we had 1080p to 120, but also 4K out of 100 frames-per-second because the Mini 3 Pro only had it up to 60 frames-per-second. And go for it. (upbeat music) Oh, it looks like there's also two gigabytes of internal storage in the drone itself in case you forgot your micro SD card. Two gigs, that's not much. It's less than the eight gigs that the bigger drones give you. But if you do get out to an epic spot, and you're like, "Crap, I forgot the memory card," then you could still at least get a couple of shots. Well, I can really lock-in very particularly what part of the radio frequency I'm using. So that's nice, because if you're flying FPV, then I want to stay off of 5.8. Even just using like a sliver of the bandwidth as well. So I'm gonna go ahead and lock mine off to 2.4 gigahertz so I shouldn't be stepping on your signal. - Cool. - And that's important, because if I do, then Frank will fall out of the sky and lose his drone. (drone whirs) You wanna race? - [Frank] Where are we racing to? - [Host] Now top speed of the Mini 4 Pro is pretty fast, but nothing different from the Mini 3 Pro. Also check this out, it's doing the return-to-home right now. (drone beeps) And it's cool that it actually shows you-- - The path. - the path it's gonna take. This little drone icon's kind of cool. It shows you, I think, where it's going to land or what's directly below it. So if I just go, land, seems like it's got some accuracy on that, so makes landing just that much easier. I'm gonna go ahead and try to take off before we lose the light. (upbeat music) Oh this is actually kind of a cool road. You got the sunset in the back, got the motorcycle riding down the road. So just like the Mini 3 Pro, I could go ahead and go into portrait mode. And it physically moves the camera to its side. Which is cool, you get full resolution, full sensor. The camera itself seems to be similar to the Mini 3 Pro, in terms of sensor and lens. It's that 1/1.3 inch sensor that DJI's been using a lot, and it makes sense, I mean, it's a good sensor. This morning I met a guy in the parking lot, and he said he just goes around and flies drones to inspect power lines, he's got like a thermal camera. Not gonna lie, that actually sounds like a pretty dope job. Just going around and getting drone-shots of power lines. I'm sure there's a lot more to it than I'm imagining, but honestly, I think I would really enjoy that. So here we are at ISO 800, and we're still getting a nice clearer picture of the power lines and, I don't see too much noise here. At 3,200 ISO, so definitely pretty sensitive. All right, we're definitely at the tail-end of our lighting here. Is there a night mode actually? Yes, there is. So let's try that out. (upbeat music) So this is giving me more access to the ISO. So I'm gonna go take manual control. Yeah, 12,800. You know, the stationary objects look pretty good, right? Like it looks good, but then as soon as I start moving, I feel like we're losing detail. But honestly it doesn't look bad, especially if you cut over to my A7, which is, we're already at 12,800 ISO. But I have a F4 lens on there, which is why we're struggling a little bit. But another upgrade we have from the Mini 3 Pro is that we now have O4 image transmission. So instead of the 12-kilometer max range that you can have on here, which you probably never fly out that far anyways, we now have 20 kilometers. Definitely a peace of mind whenever you're flying around, just knowing that you have a really strong connection. But another benefit of O4 image transmission is that we have 1080p 60 frames-per-second that I can view on this display, opposed to the 1080p 30 frames-per-second that we were getting in the 3 Pro. And I'm assuming that the lighter weight a drone is, the less dangerous it is. Is that why there's less restrictions for sub-250 gram drones? (drone propellers whir loudly) Ah. Okay, it hurts a little bit. It's interesting how all the props just shut off, huh? It just instantly was like, pff. - [Camera Person] Is that for safety, it turns off for safety? - I guess so. It did break the prop too. So this is the bag that comes with the Fly More Kit. So you got your controller, three batteries and a charging bay, drone itself, and USB-C cables, and propellers, manuals, all that good stuff. To keep the propellers and arms together there's this little harness thing that comes apart like that. And the Minis are nice, because you can open up the arms in any order and this just pops right off. So then let's go ahead and compare this to the Mini 3 Pro right here. Looks pretty similar, the 24mm-equivalent lens. So when it comes to the plus batteries, which will give you that extended runtime on these, it does look like it's the same exact battery. But the lighter-weight batteries, you can tell right here it says, 249 grams that are written on these. But these look like different batteries all together. Same type of charging case so, one, two, three, oh (beep). And just like the Mini 3 Pro we do have USB-C back here. So if you don't want to travel with a charger you can just plug straight into it, and it'll charge the battery through the drone. Although this is kind of handy because this is also a battery bank. So basically any juice you have leftover in these batteries can be used to charge other things. Looks like we have a light when we didn't have one before. So this can be useful, especially if you're flying after hours and you're getting close to the ground. It seems like it's just the same number of sensors, it's just angled out a little bit more. So now we're looking at a 360 view and avoiding obstacles on the side opposed to just the rear and forward on the previous version. Also check out what I got. A little leash. Hands free, just like the dog leashes. I've said it before and I'll say it again it is an amazing dog leash. - You could walk the dogs and fly a drone. - By the way, this does look very similar to the Mini 3 Pro controller, but this is the RC two so, it's compatible with the O4 image transmission. So it is a newer controller. We do also have antennas up here and minor differences but let's continue to test out the Active Track 360 here. And let's see, will it find us on the other side of this tree? It did. Pricing wise, we are I think at 759 US dollars. So the same as the Mini 3 Pro. But that is of course the basic kit. What's it gonna do through here? Are you gonna try to fly through here? Are you gonna try to, no. It just kind of knows to kinda work it its way my around. - Oh my gosh, look at it go. - That's pretty good, huh? There is also of course DGI care. So I'm gonna go ahead and do a little tilt up because we can get this thing all the way up to 60 degrees upward tilt and there I will put up the pricing info just so I don't have to memorize it. It is one of those things where it pays itself off if you crash it. You know what's funny is yesterday Frank said, "That it feels like a bag of Cheetos." And I looked up the weight of the Cheetos. It's 240 grams for a bag of Cheetos. - Oh, so it was-- - Yeah. - Right on. - This is basically right there with it. And I'm pretty sure that's not including the actual bag itself. It's like the contents of the Cheetos. So I mean pick up a bag of Cheetos and feel how heavy that, that is the weight of this thing. It's like silly how lightweight it feels. But this Mini 4 Pro have an obstacle avoidance in all direction. Definitely closes that gap between this and the air three, a step above it. Now the air three will give you a higher altitude takeoff limit. So basically if you're really high up in the mountains this does have a 4,000 meter limit, or 3000 which is even less if you have the heavier battery in there. Which kind of makes sense, right? But the Air three and the Mavic three Pro they are gonna have a 6,000 meter limit. And of course they have two or three lenses depending on which version you get. So just having more optical lenses within the camera is nice. One feature I would love to see in a drone is built in ND filters. How awesome would that be? Because with these yeah, you can just attach the ND filters. But you know you have to land them, switching out, then take off again. But yeah, overall solid little drone. I haven't really seen any real major downsides of it. I think the Mini 3 Pro was an awesome drone and this is just that but better. Anyways, let's go ahead and see what you guys are saying in the comments. Christian says, "I wasn't expecting iPhone integration to show up at the 11th hour of this review. Wow, stop talking to me into your swanky microphones here. Rode, these things are getting more and more useful." Yeah, so the audio I'm using out of this is the Road Wireless Pro. They record 32 bit float internally. So basically this little thing is recording. Carrie's got one as well that she's talking into. - Yes, hi. (Carrie laughs) - Yeah, so basically I start recording on the drone and I do this, and I sync up all the microphones and that's how I'm getting audio. I would love for there to be a way for me to get audio straight into this drone footage. That would be amazing. Anyways, battery swap time. That last battery was the plus battery and I got right around 30 minutes of flight time on that. So, yeah I mean, the 45 minute max battery life that's definitely like in perfect ideal scenarios. But yeah, we are using the new iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple's letting us borrow it for six months. So thank you Apple. It's so nice that we don't have lightning ports anymore. But also we have a five X telephoto lens on here now. So that's what this looks like. Let's see there, hello. And back to the one X. "Gene, I cannot believe you wore a bicycle helmet on the hyper scooter. So relieved that you switched." Right, that scooter is, it's no joke. (intense dramatic music) We all love Sam. Yes, he is in Japan right now, which is why he is not currently in this episode, but we can check in to see what he's doing. - Moshi moshi from Nara Park. I'm here to feed some deer. (Sam laughs) Okay here. (Sam laughs) They keep following me. So many deers, so little time. Okay, ah, ah, ah.
