Good video, really helped to clarify some thoughts. I'm intrigued but no raw photos and the signal going through wifi makes me feel like this is a secondary drone for me.

does anyone know if you can launch the mini from an unstable platform? I work on boats a lot and would love to fly off of the boat, but I'm worried the unstable launch platform would be an issue.

Does anybody know if the Spark Controller or batteries are compatible with the new Mavic Mini? I bought the fly more combo last year and was thinking of upgrading...

what's going on guys all just Accio here with flight path calm now in this video of course I have a new mamak mini in the studio I'm actually flying this thing for the past couple of weeks now comparing it to the DJI spark the maverick air the maverick Pro platinum and the maverick 2 pro and I've been compiling a list of all the things I'm learning from it so in this video I want to go through all those things that I think you might want to know before you buy thematic mini and if it's a new to my channel my name is all just Accio I do a lot of drone tech tips tutorials and product reviews right here on this channel so if that's something that interests you make sure you guys consider subscribing and also hearing that Bell to be notified when I post new videos and in this video I am gonna go through a full list of different features and things I think you guys should know and I'm also gonna have a lot of other videos that are gonna be going in more depth on some of these categories and some of these features so make sure you guys subscribe and also check out the playlist I'll put it above I'll have a bunch of videos coming out this week of the DJI Matic mini so make sure you guys check out that playlist in this video I want to go through just a bunch of stuff I was able to take notes on and I think that you guys will really benefit from so let's get right into it and the first thing we'll talk about of course is the mini size of this drone as you can see here we'll compare it to the spark which was of course the smallest one as far as how compact the entire package is and as you can see here it's side-by-side when this is folded up it is actually way smaller than the actual spark itself because of the fact you can't fold these arms down you can see that it just sits right there on top you can see the arm stick out of the spark and you can't fold those in but what's nice about the Mavic mini is that when you open it up it actually has these same footprint size wise as the DJI Mavic air when it's opened up it actually has about the exact same size of the Maverick air as far as propeller to propeller so I'll make sure all the specs of course coming down below and put all the accurate numbers down there but if you put these right on top of each other they are actually about the same wingspan which is good to know because then you have a little bit more surface area and as far as handling the wind I would very surprised on how well this thing handled the wind and here is the front of the - this is the mini and of course the platinum and then here's a top view I mean super super small and look at it just kind of sits there takes up it's like half the size of a platinum sitting pretty right on top of this guy the backs of that is some maverick - as well as the mini and as far as a form factor goes it's pretty much modeled exactly just like how the Maverick pro and a maverick to our so really really just kind of a mini version of this one right here but it has the size of these guys right over here now right off the bat I want to talk to you about flight time cuz this thing absolutely blew my mind as far as the size of this the weight and then a flight time goes and one of the first things I want to point out is how long this thing stays up in the air now I was kind of skeptical because I had the DJI spark ready and a flight time on this thing was 15 minutes or so which really means about 12 to 13 minutes I did a full flight time test on all of these and I'll make sure that full video is gonna be up on that playlist like I said make sure you guys check out that playlist I'm gonna be posting up new videos throughout the week but just to cut to the chase I was able to hover this thing for 27 minutes 27 minutes 27 minutes dude for this guy right here 27 minutes that is pretty good as far as marketing goes to be pretty accurate considering a little bit of wind and you can actually get more flight timing if you just hover this straight just like that and this was just sitting there hovering DJI rates here for 30 minutes if they're basically flying it at a really really slow pace moving forward so that does extend its flight time just a little bit I can't consistently fly that with all these at the same time or even one at a time to make it as consistent as possible so my test was really a basic hover test but I was able to get 27 minutes hover time with this thing now flight time of course is always gonna change how hard you fly how much wind is in the air but just my basic cover test 27 minutes now if that's the biggest thing when it comes to purchasing something like this how much do these cost of what does it come with if you want to get the basic package which is really the drone and the control and of course some of the chords that go along with it also comes with a battery you're gonna be spending about 399 for that set but I would definitely recommend going with the fly more combo because with the fly more combo you get two extra batteries so that's three total you actually get this hub right here which allows you to then charge all your batteries as well as use this as a battery bank so if you wanted to plug in your phone and you have your batteries in here you guess you plug your phone in charge it that way or even your remote control but more importantly it comes with this actual DJI Matic case as well as of course extra props and everything like that that you're gonna need but it does come with a case you're actually able to put all this gear in here and the fly Morecambe oh it's actually $4.99 so for an extra hundred bucks you get a case two extra batteries the hub and you also get crop guards or in this case it's like a cage in a way so you get the cage you get two extra batteries the hub and you get a case for $4.99 so if you are gonna get one of these I would definitely recommend probably going to fly more common route because you're always gonna want extra batteries while you're in the field the one big thing about the pneumatic mini is that it only weighs 240 to 9 grams now why is that something to be talked about well if you are flying one of these outside especially in the US and it's over 250 grams you need to register that with the FAA you had basically have to go on to the FAA website type in your basic information on there pay a small fee and you're gonna get a code that you would then put onto your drone but that's for any aircraft that's above 250 grams this one is actually 249 grams so it does not meet those classifications but that doesn't mean you don't have to abide by the standard airspace rules so all those rules still apply as far as you know where you're able to fly how high you're able to fly and all that but at least you don't have to register it in most countries as well as United States you don't have to register with the FAA if that's an issue in your area now when it comes to the sensor size actually the sensor on this camera is the same sensor size of 1 over 2/3 sensor size that the Mavic air has as well as even the spark and even the same sensor size as the Mavic pro platinum the only difference in this one which is maverick 2 pro is that this one has the Hasselblad 1 inch sensor on this camera but as far as sensor size go this actually has the same sensor size as these guys right here now as far as overall specs go where does this one sit amongst these right here now it technically sits about right here which is in between the spark and the Mavic air and the reason why I say that as far as some of the camera comparison goes and spec wise the spark shoots at 1080p the Mavic mini could shoot at 2.7 and then the Mavic air as well as the pro and the pro 2 can all shoot in 4k so when it comes down to just resolution of it it's it's right in between these two which is right in between the spark and the Mavic ear now as far as camera quality goes I've put the manic air up in the air as well as a spark all the way up against the Mavic tooth Pro and just to try to get the same flight path all the way through and what I'm gonna do here is actually show them up on screen and not show you which one it is yet maybe you guys can determine which one is coming from which drone and then of course at the end I'll just show you exactly which one is which excited that they were able to squeeze in the 3 axis gimbal on here that was one of the biggest complaints of course when people bought the spark it only had a two axis gimbal so if you're not familiar with that it's basically a way for the camera to stabilize while it's in the air 3 axis gimbal gives you more stabilization than this 2 axis gimbal here on a spark and 3 axis gimbal is what the air the pro and the pro 2 already have so now when you want to charge up your drone you can actually just plug it directly from your wall outlet into here or if you had the flower combo you could take up that battery plug it into your hub and charge it that way but just so you guys know it does come with a micro USB plug not a USB see and it also comes with a high-speed charger and of course one of the common questions is how far can this thing go this thing is actually rated to go 4 kilometers which is about two and a half miles away anything this small and you're flying it I'd say even a thousand feet away you're gonna lose it in the air anyways but to know that it's actually rated for two and a half miles is pretty insane I mean these are definitely all rated for very long distances but knowing this is 249 grams up in the air flying that far or that has the ability to fly afar is kind of insane to think about actually doing I would say I was able to take this out you know a thousand feet 1500 feet without any problem no transmission issues - no we can go more kilometers or two and a half miles is a good thing you know which means if you were to cut down half you know you can safely fly it out a mile mile and a half without any issues or ideally without any issues four kilometers with a Mavic mini but super sketchy kind of because it's so small like you're gonna lose it in the air anyways but you're not gonna want to fly it out that far but to know it can do it good thing to at least know now speaking of distance of this drone this is actually a y5 base drone which I talked about in some my previous videos I was never that confident with it when I was flying the spark and I always would say the spark is really just like a backyard drone they enhanced it a lot with the Mavic air so I was a lot more comfortable flying it at distances with the Mavic mini for some reason I don't know what they enhanced on it at this point but I confidently threw it out really really far away and when I say really far away five hundred thousand feet fifty hundred feet and I didn't really hesitate like I would have with one of these you know there's always a limitation to it but definitely a lot more confident flying this one compared to something like the spark and just to take a quick break if you guys are getting some value from this video a big like would be very much appreciated it would really help out the channel and speaking of transmission one thing I was really hoping for was the ability to use something like my smart controller with the Mavic mini unfortunately a smart controller it only works on systems with occu sync to technology as of right now it'll only work with the Mavic to line up the Mavi to zoom Enterprise as well as the Mavericks to probe it would have been really nice to use the smart controller with the mini but unfortunately this is on Wi-Fi transmission this is on the occu sync to technology transmission so you're not able to use your controller unfortunately with thematic mini also in photo mode you're actually able to do standard JPEG photos and also do a timed one so if you want this things to be in the air and have it go off as a timer you're able to do that in the app you're able to switch how long you want the timer to go for or you're able to take JPEG but no raw photos now as far as the app goes you're not gonna be using the DJI go for app like you would be with these drones right here they actually have a new simplified app called DJI fly and it actually really nice because like I said it's actually a simplified user interface based on this app sometimes having too much information on the screen is not a good thing so they haven't you really new simplified user interface a new app for the DJI mini now when I first saw the body of the DJI mini I thought oh man they we also have sensors and things like that because it's very similar to how the front is on especially like this right here the Mavic Pro it kind of felt like it was exact same but technically there are no 360 obstacle avoidance on this the only sentence that they have is that vision positioning sensors down here at the bottom and that's really for indoor flying where it's able to then still maintain a hover even without GPS while you're indoors so while it may look like there is obstacle avoidance there actually is no obstacle avoidance there is no 360 sensors all the way around the only sensors you're gonna have is right here at the very bottom and that's vision positioning so you're able to have a very steady lock while flying indoors even without GPS now although it doesn't have the obstacle avoidance and all the other stuff that some of these might have it does have quick shots which is a really good thing within the app so you're able to do things like an automated flight doing a drone II as well as a circle they also include things like the helix and also things like the rocket so if you want to do an automated flight you can actually tap droning and actually will fly away from you you could do rocket which Biscay will fly right above you and the camera which points straight down you can also do a circle where you just like the subject it'll circle all there around it and also helix which is something that you've also included on some of these drones where it's going to fly in a circle and it's gonna fly up and away from you so that's nice don't be sure that they do have in the app you're able to do some of these quick shots now as far as intelligent flight modes it does not have the intelligent flight modes that some of these other ones have like active track and tap fly and course lock this one only offers three different modes which is the basic modes P for position which is your standard GPS flight s for sport so if you want to fly a little bit quicker and then you also see for cinematics so if you want to have softer movements as far as moving forward back side to side it softens up all those movements for more cinematic types of looks so it doesn't have the full range of intelligent modes as some of these other ones might have it just has those three basic modes and when it comes to the propellers on the amount many of these are not quick detachable propellers these are actually screwed in they provide you a couple extra sets of props here with screws and a little mini screwdriver here but they are not detachable like some of these other ones like the spark you're able to just push down and take off now you are not able to do that with the Maverick mini I'm not sure it just might be a weight thing so this fence saved like any anywhere they're trying to save weight they're probably trying to save weight and this might be something that just might weigh just a little much by adding in that spring and you know bigger prop tub so right now if you want to change this out or if you have any issues with your props they have a little screwdriver and you basically have to just take off the prop of the screwdriver and screw on a new one now one concern I had when flyness was it's so small how will it do in the wind being so small and light and honestly it does really really well I was able to fly this thing a few times in pretty good high wind areas and there would be a warning that comes up through the app which is a good thing that is showing you that just some sort of high wind warning in the app so you bunch of photos it's actually still really windy up there I get a little warning that says that there's high winds so I'm actually getting a strong wind warning on my flight right now [Music] but other than that it's still maintain hover you can see it kind of you know fighting the win a little bit I was still able to fly it out a thousand feet away and not worry about it too much I was able to still see through my app and see how stable the footage was but yes this thing does handle wind pretty well now of course you want something a lot more stable in higher winds you're gonna want something a little bit bigger that has some weight in the air you're not gonna want something that's just super small but it does take on win pretty well now in video mode there's actually no manual control over the image is also no profiles for this camera so you're not able to adjust something like the shutter speed or anything like that but in the photo mode you are you are able to adjust the shutter speed in photo mode but just not in video from what I saw at this point with the software you weren't able to do any manual controls so this might be updated later in the future but what I was able to use through the current app I wasn't able to do any manual adjustments as far as exposure goes in video now for the form factor of the remote control people that have accessories this is a good news for you guys because it's the same form factor as a spark as well as the Mavic air and even the Maverick Pro they did change as far as some of the weight goes in this because this is really even a light weight controller they have new sticks here which are a little bit more plasticky than they are on some of the other controllers but other than that everything is the same there is no screen and also there is no shortcut buttons here there's no C 1 and C 2 on the back all you really have is a standard go to home you have the power you of course have your sticks here which you can still put underneath here to store them and on the back you don't have your C 1 and C 2 buttons you still have your triggers here for photo as well as for video phone holder any of you guys are wondering what type of accessories are available for this remote control make sure you guys check out my playlist above I'm gonna have more videos up there this week about some of the things that you could use with this remote control as well as some other creative things you can do with thematic mini now if you wanna get creative with your mamak mini they actually have this thing called a DIY creative kit which is really cool and I was actually able to meet up with one of my friends who's a local well-known graffiti artist here in San Diego I actually shot a video with him doing peace format mamak mini makes you guys check out that video above and I'll also link that down below in the video description really cool option for you to have if you want to personalize your mini drone so far storing your videos and photos there's a slot right here right next to the micro USB there's actually a micro SD card slot right there so unfortunately there is no internal memory on the Mavic mini unlike some of the drones here where they have internal memory this one does not have it so you need to get a micro SD card to put right here on the very back who is this Mavic mini for and its really geared towards that person that wants to start getting into drone photography drone videography or just drones in general because of the fact it is so small compact lightweight and extremely reliable because it's been using the DJI technology so if you are new to drones and you want to pick up your first consumer drone highly highly recommend getting a pneumatic mini anything of course there's something higher in like the Matic pro or maverick 2 Pro this might not meet those needs but if you're looking for something small and super compact you complement one of these drones I would still pick what is up even if I had an existing one just wanna say thanks guys if you made it this far please don't forget to hit that like button if you guys got some value from this video of course I'm gonna be coming out a lot more detailed videos on a lot of these features right here I just kind of went over a more of a highlight list of all the things that I listed out while I was flying it for the past couple weeks that I wanted to share with you guys which I think are probably some of the most important ones now of course some videos I'm gonna be coming out with are the set up video for this also the creative kit I have a video coming out with that that shows you how we're able to do a custom piece on the America Mini as well as user interface on the new app I want to walk you guys through I'll just show you exactly what's new what's been simplified in the app itself and I'm also gonna have any new tips and tricks video for the DJI maverick mini so like I said make sure you guys are subscribed to channel hit that Bell to be notified when I post new videos this is all just Accio with flight path and calm I'll see you the next one take care [Music] [Music]
