this is it the brand-new Medicare to manufactured by market leader DJI it films in 4k at up to 60 frames per second or at up to 240 frames per second in Full HD it is also capable of taking 48 megapixels photos it comes with an HDR mode both for photos and videos for more detailed recordings in contrast II surroundings also an 8k hyperlapse mode is abort now better buckle up the drone is also supposed to be a range monster the medic air twos official range is no less than 10 kilometers that is more than 6 miles and all of that for less than $1000 [Music] at first let's quickly unbox the drone look at this beautiful precious looking white Apple style box here it is the Mavic heir to its design reminds me of the professional medic line though it is noticeably smaller next is the controller it has been totally redesigned and testing it is gonna be exciting and here comes the bunch of paper that anyways no one ever reads next is the accessories box shall we take a look at what's inside of course we shall this is the charger of the drone it also has a USB slot to charge the controller a smartphone or any other USB device next in line is a USB to USB type-c cable you can charge the remote with it or download files from the drone to your computer [Music] these are the cables to connect to the smartphone to the remote there is a lightning cable for iPhones a USB type-c and a micro USB cable for Android phones [Music] next we get to spare joysticks for the remote control two sticks are already attached to the bottom of the remote itself but it is never wrong to have some spare parts and finally there are six propellers for for the immediate use and two spare ones and that is it already ok folks before I sent the drone up into the sky and before we start to fly around take a look at the camera and at the flight modes why not at first taking a look at the build quality of the drone itself [Music] the Medicare twos design is not big news and it does not stand out what is good news about this already well-known design though is it's sturdiness the quality made shell of the drone can easily withstand some bumps harsh landings ended of course maneuvers the drone safely even through rough weather talking about the weather all ventilation openings of the drone are nicely protected by honeycombed nets that way larger drops of rain as well as dirt have a hard time entering the drones body all visible cables are protected with a fabric net so that they don't wear out when folding the drones arms bright LEDs on all four arms show the status of the drone in air and also make spotting it in flight easy [Music] athirst downside of the drone are its tiny LEDs on top of the battery they are so small that in bright light it can be hard to read the current battery level on one side hidden below is small flap we find a microSD card slot the drone accepts memory cards with a maximum storage capacity of up to 256 gigabytes on the other side of the body the drone features a USB C port through which we can export video and photo files that were saved to the internal storage the drone comes with up-to-date brushless motors the quick release propellers can be attached within seconds only and of course no tools are required and what's also cool is that the propellers can stay on during transportation I don't know if you noticed but the propellers have a small tilt at their tips making them quieter which is truly important as some people out there are unfortunately scared of thromes a simple equation the quieter a drone the less afraid the surrounding people now listen to the drone yourself [Music] [Music] [Applause] by the way the pneumatic air 2 weighs only as much as a pack of pasta approximately 570 grams that equals approximately one point two five pounds and the Medicare two is small enough to be packed and transported in pretty much any backpack I also tried fitting it into my pants pockets but that unfortunately did not really work out too well the drone is small and portable yes but it is not a miniature drone if you want to learn how to create professional-grade aerials with your drone then don't forget to check out Tom's tech time.com slash courses you will find a brand new course of mine that teaches you everything you have to know 5 years of experience packed into one course Tom's tech time.com slash courses [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] if you want to take a closer look at both original photo and video files then you can download them for free and of course without a registration just check out WWE Tag Team comm slash Medicare 2 you will find several original files none of them have been changed edited calibrated at all you can just download them mess around with them and check them out yourself wwm tech team comm slash Medicare 2 the Medicare 2 records 3-axis fully stabilized videos using a standard F 2.8 lens with a slightly white angled 84 degrees field of view luckily the image is not noticeably distorted and the lens delivers clean results [Music] of course the drone records videos in crisp 4k and what's really cool is that the drone can record in 4k with up to 60 frames per second the Medicare - lets you create slow-motion shots in brilliant 4k and that is really astonishing [Music] operators that lower the quality to full-hd can even create super slow Mo's with up to 240 frames per second yes 240 frames per second you can see our action at a tenth of its original speed I cannot wait to get out there and capture some sports with this super slow-motion mode what an upgrade the drone has an unusual sensor size the sensor measures half an inch it puts the Medicare to somewhere between DJ eyes beginner and pro drone models on the specs feet I read that the camera is supposed to record at a higher bitrate of approximately 120 MB per second but while screening my videos I found the bitrate to be somewhere between 102 102 M bit per second which is not bad but it is not the promised result next in line is another significant upgrade the drone features at video HDR mode usually those modes are either only available for photos or they are simply lame and not really doing the job properly an HDR mode is supposed to allow you to film a very contrasting surrounding and still preserve many details both in the highlights and in the shadows unexpectedly the HDR mode of the Medicare 2 does a pretty good job clearly more details are visible once it is enabled though sometimes the HDR mode created over saturated colors and especially the orange tones were affected and unfortunately you cannot film with 60 frames per second in 4k when using the HDR mode that would probably be an overkill for the computing power the drone has two picture styles installed standard and decent alike I am missing dialogue for even flatter recordings though decent alike is a usable alternative it seems as if DJI tries to keep some features for example dialog exclusive to their professional line of drones [Music] the Medicare 2 has plenty of quickshot modes installed just open up the app and choose a mode now on the display select the person that you want to drone to focus on and hit the start button the drone now automatically flies a set pattern and creates a short video it is really super simple and creates beautiful clips for Instagram or Facebook for example let's take a quick look at all available quick shot modes [Music] [Music] the Medicare 2 also has an 8k hyper lapse mode aboard the camera records a time lapse while smoothly performing a flight for example just a straight line or a circle around an object and the result looks impressive and the quality of course is insane 8k is pretty cool the mode works flawlessly and does the job still though you need to bring plenty of batteries and a lot of time if you want to create plenty of hyper lapses that is because it can easily take 10 15 or even 20 minutes to record a single one probably most people won't use this mode too often though the results are really worth it so guys well I'm now location scouting a bit for a hyperlapse flight because the weather is quite stormy it's quite dark not looking too good for Hyper lapses but while I'm doing that maybe you should take the time and check out Tom's tech time comm slash Medicare 2 because there you can download original files for free you can check those out to color great them whatsoever the weather in standard photo mode the Medicare tool creates 12 megapixels photos like most other consumer drones but honestly 12 megapixels photographs really don't excite anyone anymore in 2020 DJ I noticed that - and installed a technologically super hard to explain mode that lets us take 48 megapixels photographs but wait other drones can also do that they simply take plenty of photos and then stitch them together that is actually true but no more with the medic air - the small camera really creates 48 megapixels photographs thanks to a new sensor readout technology I must admit that I didn't want to believe it until I checked out the quality of the photos myself I was able to heavily zoom in crop the images and still create usable photos that is major news and it sets a new standard in aerial photography and that is exactly how I like it of course the drone can record both JPEGs and professional raw photographs also aboard and completely new is the so named Smart photo mode it combines scene recognition HDR photography and the hyper light function all-in-one it is kind of like the AI photo mode of the drone when using the mode even unexperienced photographers are supposed to be able to take breathtaking professional-grade photos and yes the mode does a proper job and the results look slightly better compared to photos taken with a standard mode but somehow the mode didn't blow me away instead it rather reminded me of a standard AEV or HDR photo mode also the Medicare - got an upgrade that might be interesting to all of the panorama and VR fans out there inside the app select which type of a panorama you want to take then press Start and sakti Bona the camera starts taking photos automatically the system in the end even puts the final picture together you and what is big news is that you cannot see any stitching lines the algorithm does an outstanding job here and the results look far better than expected even while zooming in I could not see the stitching lines also taking sphere photos is incredibly cool the drone takes the images and stitches them together fully automatically it is again a super easy-to-use function and once the result is uploaded to a platform like Facebook it is so much fun to look at it and trust me you will get more feedback from friends and family when posting such fresh and interactive photos the medic air tube comes with 8 gigabytes of internal storage which is nice in case that for example you forget your microSD card or in case that it is full then you can still keep on recording photos and videos it's pretty handy to have but 8 gigabytes that actually disappointed me quite a bit because already the predecessor had 8 gigabytes aboard and I must admit that a camera that can take 4k videos and 8k hyper lapses and 48 megapixels photographs I think it should have a minimum of like 32 or even 64 gigabytes of storage aboard so yeah it's good to have a gigabytes as a backup but it's really not more than that DJ I wrote a new algorithm for its point of interest and trekking mode they are now both easier to use than ever and more precise at the very same time without opening up any menus just go ahead and select a target on the screen the drone can now automatically follow the subject it can circle it or it can keep the subject in focus while you manually fly the drone do you think that the drone can fly circles around me while I am in motion myself [Music] [Music] and in trekking mode the drone did a pretty good job as well it was even capable of picking me back up after losing sight the new and simplified trekking feature is awesome and I have not seen a better one on any other drone so far if you are into filming sports or yourself for example then you will really profit from these completely redesigned modes DJI completely redesigned the remote control at first we find the power button on the right the mode switch in the middle and on the left side we find the return to home button right above them we find the two control sticks by the way their detachable and you can put them into the bottom of the remote controller which is quite handy for transportation and at the top we have two function buttons now when looking at the remote from this very angle then we see that here is the shutter button and on the other side we have the gimbal wheel for tilting the camera okay that is actually not big news so what is the big news the big news is the antennas the antennas are hidden here you can just pull them out like this and they have quite a futuristic design and you might ask yourself why is that so cool that is only so cool because they're not just acting as antennas but at the same time they are this smart phone holder which is nice you don't have to have a bracket here installed anymore pretty pretty good and we have the cable hidden below the antennas which means you don't have to carry the cable along with you anymore it's always gonna be right here below the antennas and building everything up is so quick Kerching the only thing that I may be missing is a small display to see some flight telemetry data but besides that I just love that the antennas also function as the smartphone bracket and that the cable is always where it's supposed to be which means I won't forget it at home so often anymore the Medicare 2 doesn't only have a newly designed remote but it also uses a brand new transmission system and that is for a reason the predecessor model was a good drone but it used a Wi-Fi transmission system caused many interruptions to occur no more with the DJI Mavic air to the new transmission standard named okie assume 2.0 uses both the 2.4 and the 5.8 gigahertz frequency and it allows the drone to reach maximum distances of up to 10 kilometers outdoing any other consumer and even most professional drones on the market quit comment of mine the transmission system is rock steady when flying in line-of-sight I cannot take it to the test whether the drone can really fly out 10 kilometers because that's just against the rules because the rules usually state that you can fly within line of sight and that's pretty much what I'm doing but wow what an upgrade to the Medicare to the transmission system just feels like the transmission systems of the professional line really happy with that upgrade the medic air tooth batteries do a good job they have a total capacity of three and a half thousand milliamp hours the latest iPhone has a larger capacity and many other drone models can store way more power but I hope you didn't get me wrong I personally think that DJ eyes power management is groundbreaking they built batteries that don't waste any power instead the cells are named intelligent flight batteries for a reason they have a top notch power management and they come with a ton of smart safety features but let's talk facts how long can the Medicare to stay airborne for real under normal circumstances I measured a realistic flight time of approximately 28 minutes recharging a battery after a flight from around 10 to full 100% takes approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes that is unfortunately quite slow buying a multiple charger as shown here makes sense it is one of these accessories that every drone owner should have check out the description below this video and you will find a product link [Music] in general the drone has a high safety standard for precise flying it uses both gps and glonass satellites and of course it automatically flights back to the takeoff position in case of a connection loss in flight the drone calculates in real-time and depending on the distance from the take-off position when it has to return home this system is smart and does not just display a warning once a certain battery level is reached and thanks to its bottom cameras and infrared sensors and the built-in barometer it hovers exceptionally stable both indoors and outdoors also DJI Edit a landing light to the drone that automatically switches on when flying low to the ground in darker surroundings the drone has a very effective obstacle avoidance system aboard two cameras scan what's in front of the drone and another to make sure that while flying backward accidents are being prevented the cameras work really well during daytime when they have enough light to see the surrounding the system can though not be used in the dark the only disadvantage is that the manufacturer installed a single IMU and a single compass to the Medicare to only but that was probably to be expected in this lower price range in 2020 probably you cannot find a better drone for less than a thousand dollars the DJI Medicare two really does a great job it has so many cool features aboard 240 frames per second I'm so looking forward to capturing some sports with that that's gonna be super cool slow-motion shots and 8k hyperlapse and in general I'm super duper happy with the 4k material it actually looks more crisp and clean than the 4k material of many other drones I'm really happy with that and by the way of course you can still download some test files for free on Tom's Tech time.com slash Medicare too that way you can find out that I'm not just fooling you and not just making that up but it's really true the footage that you can record with the Medicare - looks really pretty darn sharp and clear so what is left to say don't forget to click on the product link in the description below the video that way you can figure out the precise price and of course you can buy the drone if you want don't forget to leave a thumbs up and of course don't forget to subscribe to never again miss any of my upcoming episodes again I'm now gonna say service because I don't know at all how to say bye-bye in Bavarian because I'm in Bavaria but I'm not from Bavaria so service is going to stay tuned and fly safe I'm gonna leave and it's always the same old joke because the camera stands right there and of course I gotta pack it too cannot just turn around and leave even though I would like to oh wow
