[Music] money [Music] take Valentine we are the authorities on all things r b ladies and gentlemen my name is tank I'm Jay Valentine this is the Army money podcast The Authority uh -huh on all things r b yes sir I'm talking cloth talk huh you're talking well versed well studied gifted musicianship all the [ __ ] we grew up on man all of it huh built into one young man but a nice two-piece yeah came in here shining them yeah he did executive producing [ __ ] high level [ __ ] sick of it what's up man what's up [Music] a little you're you're music your gift has made room for you brother amen you know what I'm saying like it is it is made absolute room amen for you man the conversation around you is is always it's always an excellent one God is good I mean listen God giveth right yeah and it's up to us to yes to be good stewards over that and be it the gift and be it the relationships and be it all of those things and so you you've been a great Steward over all that God has given you which is why he continues to give you more amen you understand what I'm saying so I I could I could I could go into the description but I'm not gonna do that I'm not gonna do that he has a pinky ring on me he got his pinky ring are we gonna keep it yeah keep it yeah we'll keep it yeah but you're doing a lot of I just got him I got on a record for you too this is awesome listen listen listen what's going on talking to camera man it's coming soon soon sooner could never say so what is the what is the title it's so it's called it's called it's called it's called the compilation album volume one volume I'm gonna do more than one volume but I'm I'm gonna do more I'm gonna do more but just the one volume is is for right now I'm I'm a I'm I'm gonna start it off like that uh compilation but you know my name is camper so I'm gonna do compilation yeah so um man and and and tank bro thank you come on man I can't thank you enough yeah you know listen I I love the song so much I'm going back and forth with human edits and like all right make sure and do and do the thing right here because it's got a couple DBS bro no he's the kid just like half a half a DB maybe three fourths of a DB Ruby just turn it up one I'm like morning amen do what the man says now it is but it's like I mean we got that record which I think is going to be be amazing yeah which is I think it's it's just one of those reasons you and Sid man together exactly you know what I'm saying like yeah it's never been done and like that's what I'm all about it's like you know I'm just trying to do things that haven't happened you know people don't think of yeah like this is going to shake the world up we're gonna go back to the beginning right but I just wanna I just wanna I just want to just talk about this one space in particular where like we got a chance to work yeah like really work on um during during the uh the love Camp yeah with puff oh yeah yeah yeah and we actually got to like be in a room yeah and and get active yeah and you're you're very much you're you're a producer in in any environment whether it be you sitting in a room by yourself putting the magic together or on the spot camp we need something yeah like you're immediate you know what I'm saying like and that that's a different kind of gift to be dope on call yeah yeah I know a lot of great producers that need to be in their own space in their own time oh they need their own curtains and their own candles like they need like they need their own [ __ ] I need everybody to get out the room yeah well I think yeah yeah can't do this [ __ ] right right [ __ ] you like this yeah all right everything's cold you just gotta pick something just better piece right there just that piece and then play that piece like thank you bro thank you thank you hey it takes one to No One [ __ ] but listen it it's it's it's it's rare yeah and you're the you're you're the young you know what I'm saying the young uh the young Improvement more improved version of what we did like [ __ ] you're different yeah you get busy thank you you get really really busy and it's hard for musicians to produce which is the other thing I was going into you're really a musician yes yeah 100 and it's tough to be a musician and a producer right it's very tough because mostly producers are just called to to just play because they only need a little bit of a musician because they don't know what a dollar down right exactly no there's an art to dialing it down 100 yep I remember one time I was in um I was in London I was working with uh Rihanna on the um you know the uh Rihanna you know but I didn't get on that album okay but I was there right so I was there with the camp and all of that and like you know shout out to Omar Grant him saying he put me to the side like yo hey hey hey man like like I get it you can play but like if like like your tracks is too busy like they're too busy like dial it down just a little bit really so from there I was like hmm okay so maybe it's not about all the cores in which you can fit in three minutes and 30 seconds it's about like the feeling you can do from like maybe two or three yeah and and captivating that same feeling like that was the key for me so you know just doing that and just you know what I'm saying yeah that's great yeah 100 because now look because people because in the end like as we talk about we kind of was missing in the business like a r is unnecessarily know how to articulate it no they just say they like or something like that they just say they like someone don't like it yeah but for him to be able to say you're you're busy you're chord structure yeah yeah it's a bit yeah for him to know you're stretching out a little too far this is not Second Baptist all right shout out Second Baptist shout out [Laughter] but the experience alone though I'm sure yeah prepped you for everything that was next tomato so you know so now we meet again we made it you know what I'm saying so it's like everything happens for a reason so I'm happy that I get to you know I didn't let my ego say nah like what you mean bro like right and me I let myself digest it understand it and apply it because there's an ego to being that talented too absolutely especially musician talented like when you you know when you can see it yeah you could you know I mean like and other people can't see it yeah exactly in your mind everyone is beneath you yeah for for people that are really talented as musicians yeah you know and and I sit on the other side of that because I don't play yes but I've had so many of those conversations I'm and I'm like you just never you won't get it yeah you're very talented but you won't get it you probably will never have a hit record because your ego is in the way right someone telling you you're doing too much yeah exactly you don't have to do all that because the average person in the world don't understand most of them can't find middle C yeah facts so you have to be able to meet people where they are musically yeah and be able to you know lack of a better turn dumb it down yeah exactly yeah you know what taught me that the NPC 60 taught me that um because I was trying to stretch and and it wouldn't accept it yeah it would cancel out notes wow so I'll be doing two I'll be doing a lot on this track yeah go to another track of strings do a lot on that track go to another track with like a signed lead and try to record and and stuff would be canceling out yeah it would glitch out yeah and I'm like this why is it doing that yeah and I I got to think of the producer's name um at the time he was producing for Tony Thompson he was producing for Tony he produced a song Let's go home business he produced that song yeah and he was producing and I was like I know I'm colder than this [ __ ] but this sound crazy like what yeah and he was like it's are you doing too much that's not how you that's not how you do that yeah and I just and I just remember sitting just trying to figure out how to pull it out of Antioch Baptist Church yes and get it to fit into this npc60 yeah and that was my trial in in like being super simple and then another and then another lesson listening to R Kelly yeah facts yeah facts listen R Kelly I was like he simplified yeah all of it and killed it it was but it was like the marriage of everything yeah is what made those songs crazy yeah it wasn't one Standalone thing it was all of it yeah you know what I'm saying it was like it's like uh I'm not gonna play right now but but yeah um yeah simple all that together at the same time was like race magical crazy crazy and that's what made me produce do maybe I deserve the way I did it chasing after him one of the greatest r b songs ever I appreciate that but but not one but not one Standalone thing that nobody can do not nothing on like you take either one of those things whether it be the pan piano whether it be the stick whether it be the melody whatever only thing that was unique to it was the story that was personal to me yeah but outside of that none of nothing none of those things separated we're blowing you away yeah I wouldn't have sang maybe I deserve to you just by itself acapelling like this oh yeah that's good yeah you would have said that no put all of them together but and then it came from you right well yeah that's the that's the the personal like the personalized part of it to where it like my story then became everybody else's story right yeah but then going into what we were talking about as far as like the whole um everyone is beneath me musician I had a homeboy that was like that church church guy yeah and I remember the first time I think me you talked about it first time I had mentioned tank to him he brushed tank off just years ago we just talked about you know music that's out and all you know different stuff I'm like man that dude two voices dope like he got you know what I'm saying like he like you know this music is cool he's kind of like a regular Church uh you know tenor yeah it's it's a million to him in church am I I grew up at church so I'm like damn for reals does that means over there all right but now it makes sense because with you scaling down and you not you know throwing everything throwing the kitchen stove at everything and every song yeah on that side of it you're basic yeah you're basic yep it is a trip to now have you know we have our conversations from a music side and a musician side and singers and all this other things and how you know how the church sees it how the you know I mean because those is the real musicians y'all the real guys bro what y'all doing in there yeah that's unreal yeah it's unreal you know what I'm saying obviously it comes from God you know what I'm saying y'all raised up in something different yeah but a lot of those guys don't understand that to make it digestible for the world it can't be that it can't be that because if it is that you're gonna get three hundred dollars for Sunday 150. yeah I started off with like a hundred and and and and I was like 13 14. I started at 25. start off at 25 a week did you do rehearsals everything I did everything I ever wrote songs 25 okay I wasn't I wasn't I was a small second you were singing and playing you singing and playing at the same okay how's baby John P Kee Junior all of it and then and then I play the drums I was the I was jerked I was Church musician one man hey yeah yeah whatever was neat whatever was me but it was working for 25. what all the way so let's go back there okay let's go back yeah that's a great Segway let's go back to the beginning yes DJ what were they calling you in church I mean it was it was calling me because like so like DJ because what's your real name so my real name is Daryl okay so is it zero because that's the real yeah so what is it so it's down yeah yeah yeah yeah you'll never guessing around exactly crazy yeah yeah hey set the tour up yeah oh my God you got the wow spelling like he got you though yeah I got a crazy spelling like it's like a very unique like you're never like I'd be like yo I bet you five dollars you'll never guess how about my name all right so so I'll give you d-a-r and then why nope it's got to be why somewhere yes the Y is after the letter that you would expect nope I Y nope oh you have you have a silent you have a science you why because that's what you just said you are yeah H okay d-a-r-h yeah yeah right [Laughter] the emphasis yeah I'll just walked in this thing and if your name is DJ that means your daddy's name is yeah that's right that's right that's right that's right yeah yeah they gonna have something different with that 100 I'm like all right I mean but like my mom wanted to uh name me Demetrius so I'm like no no I'm gonna take Daryl and Daryl school yeah yeah oh my God nickname is meat like no ah definitely not bro oh thank you God for dark oh Jesus name Demetrius what you just said I will never [ __ ] cannot run up now just call me no no no no no you are Demetrius good bro the whole name so I'll call you Treasures so obviously you're starting a church yeah and when was the first time somebody said to you um or say it to you said to the senior I said that boy right there special man so you know growing up in church it was it was every Saturday we had we had service and then this is before I was playing um on Sundays um you know for money because in my church I was playing for free for the love yeah it was it was my offering back yeah uh to God so you know it was it was just all right cool you know it's all good so my father was singing church so he made me play the piano him and my grandmother they made me do uh lessons they made me get lessons and I hated playing bro in the beginning I hated the piano bro they wanted you to learn how to read they yeah they wanted me to learn how to read and play because my grandmother was a she is I mean still living a phenomenal singer I mean she's crazy I mean like Ella Fitzgerald type crazy oh wow and then my father he can sing too like they always call him like baby Michael Jackson you know like when he was younger Jackson Five and all that yeah he'll like go around with his little group like you know you know like tri-state area go crazy everybody going crazy all room plays the guitar all of that so he wanted me to you know follow in the footsteps none of that so you know I'm six I hate it you know but I still for whatever reason still you know stuck with it yeah I'm saying so like seven eight nine like I'm getting nice around ten though like 10 11. you're taking lessons but and still playing yep still playing so like I'm learning both ways I'm learning like Mozart and Beethoven you know what I'm saying during the week and then like on Saturday bro it's John P key has a Carl Walker Donnie McClurkin Fred Hammond commission The Winans you get uh you feel me I'm like oh I'm I'm getting I'm getting both at the same time okay God I see you we outside and then um you know he was seeing solos in church and then like that's one particular time I might have been about 13 maybe 14 and like I followed him like he was singing like uh I forget what song it was but like a hymn and I followed him and this was the first time like he was like you know my son like you did a good job following me tonight I was like wow this is crazy yeah yeah cool I've been waiting that's the validation yeah I'm saying yeah apart from the all right cool you know all right cool I'm flowing now I I understand it now and then from there on like he was showing me like like waking me up in the middle of the night like playing the Earth Wind and Fire you know playing me uh so you're getting some r b too yeah oh yeah I'm getting all of that okay oh yeah Ohio Players you know what I'm saying like you know Parliament like you know he loved Parliament he loved over in the fire doing the gospel song you know he'll play me Daryl Coley yeah the Winans commission it's like you know it just shaped my r b to like what it is right now so like you know I got yeah your home was music school yeah 100 it was beautiful were you still at 13 14 still taking music lessons no I started around 13. but you went from 6 to 13 yeah lessons every day I mean every every Monday I'm sorry yeah yeah hey you taking piano just piano yup just piano can you still read now a little like not as much but like but it develops something different in your in your movement yeah for sure and my fingering like you know you can do a lot more with your pinky than most people 100 and then my stretch is crazy too yeah yeah yeah no damn fools man hey yo these are adults okay I'm sorry I'm gonna be childish sometimes so so pops gives you gives you the pops gives you the stamp of approval yup you did well tonight welcome welcome welcome to the fold let's go to the studio so we go to the studio yeah my first time going through CEOs you know it was with him and he was like all right you ready for the studio now so I go to the studio with them it was a spot like uh I think it was in Brigantine it might have been so I'm from Mays Landing New Jersey it's which is like 20 minutes from Atlantic City but if I say I'm from Mays Landing they won't know who where's maze Lane so I say Atlantic City because I was there all the time anyway so it was like that was like my like doing my home too I ain't lying for real um so you know Atlantic City so from Atlantic City you have uh like different little like off little Islands little strongs or whatever Brigade team you got Margate you got inventner so brigadine was like 10 minutes from Atlantic City okay so like that's where the studio was at so he's like you know what we know that you you know you did good let's let's go let's let's see what you got so we had these songs he had these songs and like he needed like music so he was just like your pop Style songs yeah my pops okay but like he just didn't have it out he didn't have the producer to take him there so he was waiting on me then that like now that I'm saying it I understand it now because like he didn't have it before because if he did he would have been gone so like you know I wonder if your daddy got like a villain story of a [ __ ] who didn't give him a track yeah yeah in 12 years yeah don't worry about it my son little directly watch your back yeah and you thought about 13. I'm about yeah I'm about 12 13 I'm sorry like probably like 12. maybe 11. 11 between 11 13. um because like uh 14 I got my my first like you know my official professional like studio equipment and all that that my first placement was at 15. hold on I'm sorry yeah I didn't mean to go there out of control but yeah so like you know like I'm I'm making beats for my dad like you know everything's live I don't know what I'm doing he's teaching me how to like play to Oregon as far as like like the fields and like you know because piano you know like you could play a champion yeah but like an Oregon it's kind of like smooth and all that like butter so it's like he was like guiding me with that so you know it was you know trial and error but like if like more than anything like that father-son moment was amazing that sounds amazing it was incredible bro so so yeah so you start producing and get your real piece of what what was your first real piece of equipment all right cool yeah so um I might have been I think I was like 14 15 at the time uh I got my my first um it was it was I mean I was always like from the beginning it was always FL Studio so I got that on uh on the on the not the laptop but like a hard like a like a computer like with like the Monitor and all of that so like I already had FL installed I had like some little like Samsung us like Samson Sam son speakers or whatever you know had a little M Audio controller had all the sounds in the world though but you know I'm 15 I'm trying to just figure it out I had a partner at the time you know that was helping me make beats and all of that um his name is infinity crazy crazy crazy and um together you know we make a beat um because I was already making beats but I will always send it to him I'm in school I'll do my homework I'm like a freshman sophomore you know junior in high school and I'm making beats but like this is at the at this time the the industry like where like how like when it was crazy it was um at this time it was crazy in Atlanta like it was popping in Atlanta over 405 yeah just like you know I was going nuts bro so like that's where he was living so like I'm I'm making beats you know what I'm saying like sending to him like yo what you think what you think he's trying to write you know back around to me adding adding things or whatever like that 15 I got my first placement with bow wanna Marion from the crib though I was at the crib making beats going back and forth with him with ideas so I'm going on the Face-Off album yeah I did I did her star really yeah [ __ ] yeah yeah me and infinity he did that start bro so now I'm 16. we don't not the infinity we know right yeah white effect yes white and finish stop playing with me yeah Infinity what's up my boy get together we were a production beautiful first placement ever bro at 15 you know so I'm going to school you know I'm a junior high school with a a gold plaque walking around like I won like I'm like I'm you know little Javonte Davis you did it yeah yeah I'm walking around like I got the plaque yeah all right you took the pack you took the actual plastic took it to school so guess what so my name is DJ right so like look so so DJ right be going back DJ is like if you know me you can call me DJ you know what I'm saying like but like people like in the industry they'll call me DJ camper because like they think like you know I'm a DJ or whatever and it's like but like the ones that know me you know me family family DJ camper all day long but it's like two like people that like don't like they just outside looking in this it's just camper right um uh uh I'm trying to figure out why I said all that just now because you took the plaque to school okay so DJ at the time Lil Wayne had a song called this [ __ ] that turned himself into the song man might lean back like bro I'm gonna take it cause he thought he was doing it he was doing a job so did Lil Wayne know you so man so like it's like you know because school starts at like 7 50 like 805 or something bro so like we in school my first period is gym so you know I borrowing them of course you know how we do bro and then and then the second period we gotta walk in the halls in like my class is like probably like I was like where like the street is at so we have to walk far so at least like a three minute walk bro I had my dude I said yo look pause not my dude but like you know my boy and I'm like yo bro you got your speaker right had a big old like like boom box bro like one of them Junctions that you put on your shoulder bro boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom you walk through with the black yes I'm like how you doing how you doing no way hey how you doing no way hey I can see it [Music] [Music] you know me did you get paid for the record yeah well okay it's your first place what do you what do you get for your first place do you remember I think um I think they was calling us back then me me and me and me and infinity like he was called full scale like that was uh our name yeah um they was calling they was calling but every but obviously it was it was his rate okay okay because he did um his leverage was he did um uh please take me yeah you going crazy so like you know like he was all right you know I got that you know my feed right now you know it's it's 17-5 so they was calling him Mr 17-5 yeah y'all got 17.5 whatever you split that bro yeah you know my first as a 15 year old my 15 year old my first placement when I got to L.A oh [ __ ] with with two artists that never came out but I'm right Seventeen five a piece so you were 17 I was 17. the number number three right where like industry standard for like you know intro guys the guys who've done a little bit like everybody will stay around a number 17.5 must have been the number yeah it must have been the number it must have been like this just circulation but you get you got you you got to split that with somebody at 15. oh you was going crazy I was crazy what did you buy yeah what did you buy I got that coat that you told me oh yeah yeah yeah uh I think I I think I got my mom a little a little Jeep with that okay yeah yeah like you know like oh yeah I made sure my family was straight that's all I always do that when I get bread like you know like that's that's mandatory um well I had no girl at the time you know I was just chilling like I was 15 yeah girl by the time you made it through the hall I mean not they were just part they were just so like like just nobody could believe it yeah like they were stuck like damn like yo who like who like who is this I'm like yeah like you know so nobody really knew you were producing and that type of stuff at school no no like they didn't know they didn't know I was doing it at that magnitude they knew that I was talented because I was the type of person and and you know when I go on tour when I do my shows and stuff I still maybe like Incorporated somehow but like uh me like like okay like what's your favorite song right now whatever like like Drop it out like say it or you know but it's play on the spot yeah it works every time it's like oh man it's crazy okay and then like sometimes like they might stop me because I might not know the song and then I'm like you know what let me hear it let's play it and then I'll just pick it up boom Miss like what else baby yeah what else all the way baby [Laughter] yeah so hey you know it's it's fun man you know it's it's beautiful that's a crazy story yeah but look who the plaque was too Omarion and Bow Wow shout out to my boys in high school oh yeah they thought you had tickets to the scripture oh yeah oh yeah but they you know they wasn't pressing me like that yeah but like if they if they knew all of that like oh man like yeah he would have been in the screen yeah first one that's dope 15. I said all right wow this is nice so you're still in you're still in the tri-state area you're still in Jersey still in Jersey at this time still playing at churches I'm still playing at church until Sunday all of that you know what you getting paid a Sunday it's your Sunday right now exactly only what you do for Christ will last that's better believe it okay 100 I'm with you so I'm giving my gift out so it's like you know I'm I'm I'm I'm preaching that too like it's all good like what you want me to do you ain't getting seven right if you just pay me 17.5 on Sunday I'll be there 17 I wish you would telepath to that oh my goodness 350 you should say that probably not gonna get that not even close let's say 750 yeah not even that no no no bro I was I was I started off at 50 you know it graduated to 100. and then like 250 I think the most I ever got was like 350 a Sunday I never got 350 or something wow and it was two musicians it was a keyboardist me and a organist it was a four piece five piece band I'm playing the songs writing the songs doing all the rehearsals everything I think the most I got a Sunday was 150. wow wow then we would double up and like go to a different church after church is over oh yeah I was moving around wow cause I'm doing two choirs if the I'm the minister of music so if the pastor got to go I gotta go with him that's correct I'm you know I'm all in wow 150. yeah yeah I said you know the Lord I mean yeah yes Lord you talking about man you got mansions and streets of gold yeah okay y'all can't shave off none of that gold 100 make a [ __ ] a chain or something like y'all ain't broken you just want to change I want something something show me something we talk about this Jesus that got the whole why we oh [Applause] Jesus don't stop acting like that you got paper let's stop acting like as children of God we are supposed to live damn near on the streets yeah but they do say the mix shall inherit that has nothing to do with being rich yeah and when it's all over yeah it also has nothing to do with that that also says on Earth as it is in heaven so yes life more abundantly yes 100 I come yeah he came already yeah that you may have life yeah yeah life more I'm looking for my abundance he said I don't like it so after your first place hey Hallelujah so so so what is the next move you're in Infinity you're cracking y'all got your placement what is the next move yeah let me cracking and then like we did some more stuff like we did some stuff for Raven Simone you know yeah shout out to Raven shout out to Raven you know I'm saying like that was a beautiful moment and then you know we did some stuff for Chingy um we caught a crazy woman with the Backstreet Boys that was crazy up on it This Is Us album no I'm 17 at the time and then I got the call from R Kelly from Robert himself I'm 17. I'm a junior I'm I'm living with my mom and my and you know like my whole family I'm at the crib I'm making beats I'm sending Beats to Infinity like yo he's like yo you know you know are looking for some joints him saying you know Clark Kelly he down there killing it right now this is when Clark Kelly was on his run back in 0708 shot the Claude and um they like yo like yo you got some tracks bro I have some crazy tracks I'm like man heck yeah like we outside like you know I got you so last in the pack through hit me back hit me back and was like yo yeah no like he chose this one he chose that one so like 17 years old did a song called kelly wrote it is called Echo Echoes the song um um everybody was going crazy at the time like that was a it was a crazy song for uh for him at the time especially like you know the claw writing and all that it was it was it was fire and then but that one I did by myself and then the other one banging the headboard is what I did you know me and infinity did that together also Claude Kelly wrote that as well um I was just like man this is crazy I'm not even 18. all right cool God what's next you mean I'm ready to go I'm getting ready to graduate so after I graduated just all this he said I'm getting ready to graduate yeah no no I didn't graduated there bro still playing on Sundays you know what I'm saying you know going to prom you know saying you know like rented the soup you got bags yeah you got a bank account yeah no hey man God is good Amy you know what I'm saying so are you are you um being under 18 are you able to touch your money oh yeah is it coming to you yeah because you know obviously you're not it's not like you're an actor or you wouldn't sign some record deal even it's like you're an independent contractor you're a producer yeah so it's not like somebody's overseeing your money or if it's going to get to you so you get into your money yeah yeah from the rep yeah from the rip 87.50 yeah I'm getting yo your first place but that come to you 100 check and your parents let you give it up however you want pops is definitely let me know for sure yeah they're letting me you know be grown yeah let me learn my my lessons early yeah I'm saying so now 33 you know I'll never do what I you know did then um but it's beautiful because like they they knew all I wanted to do was help them anyway you know I'm saying like you know my mom you know uh was one time she um it's crazy bro like a check came right in the nick of time like my mom she was hot in the van because it's about to get repo or whatever so they she had the money to get it but she's waiting for a check or whatever I know when it was gonna come and then they took the van they finally found the van took the van then the next the next day she was crying that day next day I gotta check I'm like oh yeah let's go let's go buy a car boom don't worry about that with snacks so it's like you know you be faithful over a few things talk to talk yeah I'm saying I ain't playing yeah r b money yeah yeah yeah yeah because that's in in a sense that's our uh that's us getting drafted yes that is our draft Daddy I mean our our first check yeah all right you know I mean like we become when you become a professional in this thing like when you literally are getting royalties or a producer's check or in advance so they mean these are you know it's equivalent yes yeah you know I mean so being able to just say you know Mom let's go get this car yeah it's nothing more beautiful thank you nothing more all right so listen you got you buying cars you know Backstreet Boys are Kelly like all before graduation hope before graduation I mean yeah yeah your discography is getting extensive at a very young age um I I mean what is next after that you graduated high school yeah and what is your first move I go to Atlanta as soon as you get about yeah I'm going you go get right into it yeah yeah I had like it was like Project Graduation it's like a thing they like the kids do and after the graduation it's a party so we Party Like It's 1999 yeah free Chick-fil-A sandwiches you know what I'm saying guys to do that yeah we outside free Chick-fil-A talking about all this crazy yeah shout out to Chick-fil-A jingle anytime you ready oh my God produced by DJ kept sang by r b money you know I'm talking about come on yeah they see our hearts so you hit Atlanta yo 2008 2008 18 years you know I'm saying oh Crest High School you know [ __ ] Pride hey I'm in Atlanta now you know goodbye mom you know it was crazy because it was like you know like my mom out there it's like my first my first time away from the crib yeah you never left oh no I never left not by myself not for that like I mean I I would go like Spring Break um you know like uh um like Christmas breakings all of that type of stuff like I will go to Atlanta to work for the weekend come back but like this time I'm going for like at least the summer did you find a place before you went um yeah I was either staying with infinity or my manager at the time like she said I can just crash at her apartment because she had an extra apartment there so like either way I was good yeah okay yeah shout out to filleting night that's my first manager Ah that's my partner I didn't know that was your first manager my first time yeah using great hair oh yeah 100 like taught me a lot taught me a lot that's correct yeah yup so I was there for the summer and man I was just getting to it like he was just getting to it every day every day like it was crazy like Studio Waffle House did you have a spot yeah we were working at the artist Factory okay so I'm running into PJ Morton you know like I'm running to uh Rock City you know Timmy turn like I'm running into like uh Javon I'm seeing him like his room was next door to mine I'm like man this dude is so crazy like every day I'm like I'm like what's up what you want to do like me and it was Spar all the time it was amazing tazio mad scientist you know like he was a crazy producer yeah oh man he was on fire back then I was I'm I'm amongst all of this as a rookie like all right 18 years old 18 like like fresh like what are we doing yeah so you know I was just grinding it out and just saying you know like you know what was shake from it what was the first thing to shook when you got I'm trying to remember I'm trying to remember I'm trying to remember out there out there honestly bro like we did a whole bunch of music out there but like nothing really like popped off like like I didn't get no like singles or nothing like that maybe some album Cuts you know I'm saying like but I was I was in with everybody but like you know like nothing was like actually sticking yeah exactly like it was it was when you look back at it now though why do you think that like as a seasoned producer do you not do you feel like you maybe you weren't ready yet yeah yeah I mean I I yeah I feel like okay yeah I don't I feel like no I I'm ready now like I'm oh my god without a doubt oh man but just looking at looking from your eyes now yeah back yeah so back then the reason why I said that because I I know the feeling now being ready and like back then like it was a whole different completely different ball game and I was trying to figure out what the sound was and how to perfect my sound back then right back then right it's a whole bunch of Pop stuff for on the floor type stuff so like like you had to find the right I remember that time yeah I watched so many dope r b producers chase that bag yeah that imaginary bag yup because that bag wasn't there for everyone no people watching a lot of these people shift their whole sound who's really really talented in their space they were chasing they was banging on that chase bro the danger they understood it Black Eyed Peas but it was so heavy it was like well I am Stargate Stargate it was like I want to taste people that people just wanted to wet their beaks but it was just it was a far run yeah you had to run far to get there yeah yeah every time we had a meeting a label meeting with a r four words they will always say four on the floor four four on the floor we need four on the floor so every time you make a beat let's fall on the floor by nothing's like nothing was like sticking so I'm like man what is it I'm like man so I would just go through the studio and just do what I love I just need beats how I want to make beats and like y'all just fall in line like you know and then whatever happens happens but like you know I wasn't I didn't really get a lot that I can remember uh a lot of success didn't really just a lot of lessons and a lot of learning and teachings during that time I was playing at churches I found the church yeah and then like we did a song for like you know some like like Indie artists out there you know like you know like we were getting checks but like it wasn't like crazy making them last yes making them last and you know helping paying rent and all of that type of stuff and you know just trying to just figure it out yeah yeah were you you know because you say Atlanta you know uh yeah I already know what he wanted I know a lot about that well you parked hey were you having a good time because you was only 18 too so like this is when 300 the bowling alley was popping back then I think it was called 300. um and like they had like I mean it was like parties every weekend like it was like she was able to get into that kinda kinda because I was I mean like the parties yeah but like the clubs I couldn't really get into because I was 18. and I wasn't really drinking like that then so it was like I was like just like the cool Church kid that you know was happy to be here I wasn't smoking I'm with you yeah I'm like dang girls is nice yeah I'm saying like you know nice scenery good food like I was that type of person yeah yeah he was actually enjoying the city yeah I was enjoying it no if I was 18 I'd probably I would have been the same one yeah you would have figured out a way to sneak it no way no I hadn't even had a drink yet yeah yeah she was still at home yeah I'm still at home too right yeah but I mean even you hadn't gotten to Atlanta yet no no I mean but I was in my in my mind and in my spirit I was still in the same place he was I would have went to Atlanta found [Music] look around and I write songs about what I thought I saw would it what it could possibly be right because I was never that I'm in love with the stripper guy I wasn't you know I mean I was I loved it yeah I was never that guy yeah but I you know I I love the body of a woman yeah forever amen you know what I mean so for me being 18 years old and that's like the one thing you can get into you think yeah unless you're in the strip club at least in L.A I don't know about nowhere else yeah when I first came to La like it's 18 years old like I go that's the club I can get into yeah I want to go every night I just need this twenty dollars to get me in that's it and then I'm going to meet the girls that work there and they're gonna let me in I'm gonna get in somehow yeah you know what I mean yeah so yeah I wrote a lot of songs yeah yeah beautiful a lot of songs so did you how long did you stay in Atlanta uh just for the summer I think and then uh you didn't fully move no I went back and then um I was just being led to go to like in a different direction as far as like you know I was I was growing and I was just like man all right cool you know maybe I can just you know like Branch off and like just fly solo so like that's what I did from that point on when you're in your in your when I got this partnership yeah yeah when I got back so I'm like you know um I was like yo but you know I'll holla at you if I need any questions or whatever like you know sounds like you know you know you still my boy so it's all good yeah it was time to move on but it was like to this day like you know we still friends and that's dope yeah um so I go home man you know I'm just like all right God what's up you know like like where we at what we doing because I was trying to figure out um um New Management all that type of stuff so you know so I'm by myself and then now I run into uh a guy by the name of Tyrone Bing Tyro being uh was a part of 872 Corner boys yeah yeah he's from Atlantic City okay so like he took me under the wing and he was just like you know like this is what it is this is what it's not you know what I'm saying like you know show me around like show me the ropes because like you know he moved to Atlanta as well so like you know like he knew it and all of that so you know every time I would go to Atlanta at that time I would you know hang out with him be with him and he'll show me you know things and so like you know I signed with with them well with him um a72 entertainment yeah um and you know he was managing me and all of that and you know he was trying to just figure out you know like the the next uh big move for me at the time he had Tanisha Kelly so I was working on her a lot and you know um my first time going to La I think was I think I might have been uh 18 19 and when I went like it was just so like it was just like so new for me like oh my God like what's what's all of this and I was with Tyrell and I was with uh Tynisha Kelly so like you know I'm going with her to uh uh uh the spot pick up her check you know saying she goes to her rehearsal I'm like the whole artist life and now yeah yeah it was dope um so you know being with him was cool like it was a great experience and you know like from the crib you know I definitely was like man like this is a dope uh person to be around to learn a game from you know I'm saying and then um that ran its course and then I was trying to figure out what I was trying to do after that and then all right and are you in L.A are you I'm back in Jersey so yeah I was in L.A probably for like a couple days or maybe a week okay okay I experienced my first ass cap awards at 18 you know I'm I'm they just invited me uh to the ASCAP Awards this year next week so you know I don't know they might give me something for ICU I don't know you know what I'm saying but uh you know we'll see but um the funny thing is that we were probably at the ASCAP Awards it works though yeah it's so crazy all right and it's like um uh so I'm there my first my first Ascot you know I'm saying like you know show me around the city all that type of stuff cool I go home um you know I'm trying to just figure out you know what's going on you know like what's the next step and all of that and and it wasn't going where I thought it was going to go you know what I'm saying so you know I'm like with love you know let's just move on let's just you know it's all good and then um I teamed up with pop one cell he's a producer all right yeah yeah papa Nook yeah exactly so like he was in Philly at the time so I would go up and make beats with him because how far is Atlantic City from like 45 minutes like 45 minutes so like it was dope like I met him he was uh in in Northfield um which is like 15 minutes from Atlantic City outside of Atlantic City so like he was down there he was all chilling and he was like man y'all like you dope man like you know we should work I'm like all right cool like you know you cool you know you're a Vibe let's let's Vibe bro go to Philly you know we start making beats you know what I'm saying and then boom we do Marvin Chardonnay for Big Sean and Kanye and yay we're number one that's my first Hot 100 number one yeah pulled over started crying I'm like yeah I can't sit put over started crying bro I told the Camry bro I never forget it what was your percentage on that record man I want to say my I I think it was like 15. I think it was it was like 15.15 on a Hot 100 yeah yeah you know that's 15 on a Hot 100 number one I take it yeah yeah I'm 100 bro I was like wow this is crazy and you would at this point I'm 21. do you have a publishing deal at this point um no you get a Hot 100 number one with no Pub or I think oh I know I was in negotiations the bag was crazy but like here's but here's the Chris it's crazy I know the bag was crazy bro but it was like I mean at 20 at 20. well yeah yeah 20. no you know what you know what I got the publishing deal first at 20. and then at 21 that's when I have 100 got it okay okay so but it ran it through 100 like you know I recouped it was it was crazy I'm talking about like that first one yeah I ran through that I need another one yeah I'm saying so um but what happened was in my first deal I had so many people in my pocket the first one because you didn't know yeah I didn't know right my first one so now it's like dang but like back then it was like that's cool like you know when you say that though because you know we like to give real information here when you say so many people in my pocket so were people connected to your deal or was it one of those things where people were just when you got the deal you just had to break off multiple people so it was like come on we we get a real deal no no no no no I love this bro I mean it's beautiful man it's beautiful so we dealing with each other you tell me you don't give me the deal you call your mans yeah you call your man Jesus Christ Jesus Christ he calls his man we still ain't got to the man yet bro well I'm like oh man cause like like my Advance was supposed to be six figures when I got my check it was like forty thousand forty two thousand makes eight of you they ate off my Advance my Advanced like a like a buck 90 or something like that my dance yeah yeah so it's close to 150 of that thing yeah this is what the game is man that's what the game be I had to pay the dues like like that's how I look at it like okay you want to be in this and you want to stay here um 13 14 years later you want to be on r b money podcast with the family cool dirty cool rub your sleeves yeah bro your sleeves because now when I'm rolling up [Music] that's it because here's one another thing about those spots like that yeah those those moments I feel like those uni yo those moments are universally designed to make or break you yes the cream Rises to the top to make you make a decision on if you really want this or not yeah this is the four years now because it's par for the court we all can tell you those stories and those and have taken one way or another yeah one way or another yeah to get here yes I definitely got double dipped on the uh on the publishing deal dipped so you're gonna you're gonna take the management fee and then I find out that you actually got to deal with the publishing company that my deal is running through yeah I'm gonna need some of that I mean too much dip on the chips yeah yeah and you're fired and you're fired you're fired you're gone you're fired because what we understand in this business is our value yeah and we don't always understand that early on yeah but when it be but when you actually get some real value that everybody like you have your value as a person but when you become valuable yes to others and you have an understanding of that sometimes you have to say you know what you just can't be a part of this with me anymore yeah and that's it's that simple you know everybody makes it this whole grandiose thing of oh you gotta oh man I'm rolling up to the studio I'm throwing me a [ __ ] in a trunk and they did me wrong yeah you know what my throw you in the trunk is sometimes you can't do business with me yeah that's it ever again and there's no number that you can even offer me yeah yeah that's the worst trunk you can get thrown in yeah dealing with a talented person damn that person will not [ __ ] with me yeah I bet you want to come on the podcast now don't I bet bet you do you ain't coming on this podcast nope hey tank close the trunk drive on drive off but this is you know I mean like this is how this [ __ ] goes man and when we had don't I would say to the to the to the to the artists to the producers to the writers young adult yeah don't let that [ __ ] drive you crazy yeah don't let that [ __ ] make you stop yep make it turn you up yeah that's it so you can be on here rolling up your goddamn sleeves rolling up your goddamn sleeves exactly where's some froze yeah because you chose yeah you know what I'm saying it's a real thing and it's it's what you had to go through yeah yeah it's your story I don't care about this ain't this ain't nothing but you know I'm at my brother's house so you know I gotta uh this is this this this this particular moment you know what I'm saying is to celebrate you yeah and for you to as as the young people say pop your [ __ ] you know what I'm saying this is this is why you're here yeah so the people can understand why you are able to pop your [ __ ] 100 where you've come from and what you've gone through and as and how you're continuing yeah to [ __ ] be great thank you that's what this is for yeah you're supposed to wear your jewelry come on you supposed to wear your toothpaste I know it's fresh you just took the tags off of that I promise you yeah [Applause] this morning [ __ ] God damn God damn it I love it that's why are you here yeah I love it it's a beautiful thing [Music] yeah this time you ain't got as many hands in your pocket yeah yeah so yep and not and and now at this point I just kept taking the advances that they've been given so it's like all right you know another hundred thousand over 200 000 another 250 yeah uh another 300. so now I'm out of my deal next year I've been in my so it's been so the deal has been 13 years like because I kept um the original deal yeah yup I kept I kept doing the options so now I don't want no more options I want them I want I want the I want the I want the grandiose I want the I want the max at this point because I went through it all before yeah so I'm excited about that yeah I know you are I'm excited about that and stay successful yeah 100 continue to become more successful yeah yeah because that is the key to this game if you're in the major game right you can play it from a lot of different ways but if you're in a major label major publishing music business it's just the auto renegotiation yeah it's the art of reversion yeah I'm gonna eat that bag yeah at this point oh yeah I know yeah I know y'all had that but you know what I'll do something with y'all yeah but I'm a need yeah I'm gonna need this to revert back to y'all faster than what this country y'all chance to partner and really like make history so now as I really gotta text y'all now because I like what's happening right now like you know I'm saying I'm hot I'm number one again and it's like you know and I'ma Do It Again the number has to reflect yeah 100 oh yeah you see the pipe four weeks five yeah five weeks straight you see the pipeline see it yeah right right talk to me like talk to me nice like like very respectfully very with love you know yeah what up what up baby oh yeah I was in Miami I went to um to the crib you know what I'm saying like this is like my birthday Eve you know he's saying he right there he like man you know happy birthday King you know what I'm saying and had the shots of DeLeon already you know what I'm saying I was like man like got these like very exclusive like uh tangerine orange slices he got tangerines that we can't get I'm like of course they like blood like they're so sweet I'm like bro thank you King appreciate you yeah that house right there makes you keep working 100 percent every time I go there puff house in Miami yeah that house makes you keep the staircase alone all right right the staircase man the guest house make sure you say you know what yeah cause he just in there like rent ain't due right that's how he move around he move around like ain't nothing dude whoa all this paid for take that take that huh take that what act bad like that's how you want to move around yeah that's that's the goal right there like ain't nothing dude that's the goal it'll move when I tell it to move 100 shake when I tell it to shake Hallelujah oh you're gonna do a honeymoon tracks we're talking a lot of we talked a lot of rap storm be money podcast yeah let's get into this r b thing that you do really well because he's just talking about the number one for five weeks let's get to it yeah yeah yeah cause you you tapped on that yeah but you know he's coming off of a rap record yeah like especially you've kind of been tapped I don't know if if that was done on purpose or not but like you're like the go-to for the female R B artist too I mean you've Mary J Blige Mariah Carey yeah her hers let's stop at her okay let's stop right there okay it's not there okay all right because you eped on that yeah he said Peter fuel I don't know it's not just that's what's up there yeah okay okay okay let's let's get there let's get there because those are must listens yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah if you are if you are an r b fan and you don't have her volume one volume two in your playlist in your playlist first EP to ever win a Grammy wow in my that I know of I could be wrong I don't trust your ear your r b conversation I don't trust I don't trust anything about you is r b if you don't have those two projects that's real that's real stop arguing with tank in the comments if you don't have I'm saying if you don't have those you can't argue with me in the comments exactly it is oh yeah oh yeah so how to how did what does that start what does that start like how does that even the introduction relationship so um uh shout out to Jeff Robinson you know what I'm saying yeah you know I mean yeah yeah like the guru you know like if you ain't gonna do anything man he gonna put a play together and like you know so he hit my manager at the time Natalie and um and it was like yo yeah we gotta get camper you know hey we gotta get camper down to the studio man you know in New York you know we gotta you know have them pull up like all right cool you know I come cool you know I got this young girl you know Gabby you know Gabby Wilson you know like be trying to figure it out with her and all of that and you know I guess they tried to work with other producers and all of that yeah nothing really like I'm like all right cool you know if I if I like her then you know like we'll see you know so at the time I'm still living in Jersey so like you know I I ain't driving to New York so I hopped on the Greyhound it's like 25. um two and a half hours you're there boom you know I'm saying so you know I'm trying to figure it out you know because I'm still trying to make money I'm still trying to like you know like catch a like catch a break like for real at this point um because it's like you know I had to deal but like that that money was so fast still waiting for the next item yeah oh my God right but all right I already filled the requirements yeah I mean meliodas every every week what we talking about the percentages they're right there get back to work yeah Okay cool so now all right cool so now I'm headed to New York I'm going to New York I meet up with her instant instant instantly Blown Away playing singing I'm just like man oh yeah no she crazy she got it where do we start matter of fact y'all could lead a room we can start now right so we just started bro like she had like this idea on a piano you know I'm saying like these four core passes um I played them how she wanted me to you know what I'm saying and then I uh put the beat behind it you know that song was called losing that was the first song we ever did it was the first record y'all do yeah losing and that's on volume one yeah I know the record that's why I asked you that way I'm like that's the first record you came on so crazy I'm just like man like yo that hurt her melodies her Deliverance like you know we just had a real conversation like he was like yo like what can we do that hasn't been done like like what can we do that can shock and all like what can we do to to make that change and to make that state what year is this this is like 20 man this might be like 2013. 2014. wow yeah at the time and like and yeah so like you know it started with losing and then like you know she wanted to work every day so like I was in New York at least like three years four times 2014 2013 2014 because it didn't come out to 2016. okay yeah yup so we've been at it we've been trying to figure out how to like Market her and how her Rebrand could be and like that was a whole Jeff Robinson because they even were they even calling Gabby her at that point no no still gaps you still got it you're still Gabby Wilson yeah performing at sobs yeah excuse me and um because that's what I was familiar with yeah and obviously she's from the bay so I I only knew her again so I knew it was super talented young girl from today yeah Gabby Wilson well I knew crazy yup I'm very talented she just needed like you know that's just that hedge of protection around her to really like take it there musically and have that like that marriage or someone that could really like like take her there you know what I'm saying and like and and we were like a match made of Heaven yeah at that time it's like we couldn't do no wrong we pumped out everything like say it again wait for it oh that was like almost every other day like it was a hit that's crazy chemistry to this day unmatched it's like where you at you went in crazy yeah man you were her Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis yeah or you are yeah to me no way yeah not to this day right it's a full lock-in yeah 100 we ain't going nowhere that went crazy it went crazy and it was it was it was effortless it was effortless effortless and no ego was love like you know she trusted me and I heard no pun intended you did the drums on on Way Forward yeah what is wrong with you I'm sick Bro you are you are you are out of your mind you were completely out of your mind thank you bro thank you yeah thank you man that's crazy thank you I was just trying to press you know just just press the issue you know what I'm saying and they were letting y'all just be free yeah and nobody was in your way and that's the beauty behind it because now that you free you can go ahead and flow how you want to right you're not somebody not in your ears I'm about four on the floor you know what I'm saying like they allow you to see that still a sore spot four on the floor bro if y'all ever see him in the street just do not want to get on my nerves say these forward [Applause] and then man we just kept going and kept going and kept going and kept going and it felt so refreshing to be with an artist that you can have that relationship she was like brandy to Rodney absolutely absolutely and all that so it was like man you know I I got that I got I got my Michael Jackson from Queen you found your vest yeah 100 so it was like I wanted to stay locked in with that as as long as possible because like that's needed like that's the key to like making absolutely you know like amazing music amazing moments and all of that so locking in with someone one or two yeah crazy bro yeah I did crazy yeah it's incredible and y'all want to grab me wanna Grammy off of EP there everybody thought it was an album it's not an album it wasn't it yeah and and we won that John it was crazy I was like man like I flew my whole family out my mom first class everything yeah that's you first class yeah so yeah I'm like Mom bring your friend she can she can go first she can go first class too huh you know to you young [ __ ] right yeah um I think y'all doing something when y'all tell the home girl to bring the home girl and I won't call you know because I won't say it's your girl yeah yeah yeah but when y'all yeah yeah bring your friend you know how you no no no he told his mother yeah yeah that's right bring your friend bring sister popper yeah that's right yeah man oh that's just another level of it though Auntie Robin yeah yeah Auntie Robin Can Fly Robin what's up tell Auntie Robin come on yeah yeah yeah he was doing it right man yeah right so so when Coco Jones is nominated for ICU okay so we go right there it is yeah it just felt right yes I told my mom already I said your mom go ahead and listen listen go ahead and get your get your dress ready now yeah like I'm planning now yeah I got two suits ready to go right now claim it ready to go exactly we gonna look back and we're going to look back and we're gonna play these inserts 100 yeah so I'm saying it now I love that yeah Coco's fire yeah so what do you do when you win a Grammy what what I mean is there like a what's what's the celebration [Music] wait what wait what yeah I got a certificate you got the hardware right you got the oh I got the hardware yeah you got Hardware man what yeah we gonna change that bro so what do you do when you get that man do you walk down the hall with it like you did at school yeah turn the goddamn boom box off we bout to walk down Hollywood Boulevard Lynn let them Loop the hard part man but um nah like I it's like it took me a while to get my actual Hardware also so after after I won that night I dropped my mom off you know she wanted to like go home and she was tired it's like 10 o'clock 11 o'clock uh and I went back and I had a big Airbnb like in in in in in the Hills oh yeah yeah yeah yeah all my brothers was there you know saying my little sister like you know like I had I I don't remember I'm just like it was it was it was it was my family and then it was emotion in love yeah it was a lot of big Airbnb yeah you know you know what I mean that should be an option on Airbnb do you want a bigger and it was beautiful man like you know people came they showed love like you know we was when you don't remember that I don't remember yeah that's great I don't remember that's great but yeah I'm you know he gonna do it again you know what I'm saying because I work all years I don't want to celebrate like you know I want to celebrate when when it's time to actually celebrate yeah but like right now like I'm I'm thankful for everything like the number ones and like the looks and all of that man but it's like I'm locked in I want more it's like I want to keep going I I got I got that Mama mentality right now I guess you did another record that I really love refill yes I also did that with pop oh yeah that's special pop crazy pop crazy yeah yeah yeah yeah he seen pop in a long time yeah yeah where's it pop back in Philly now he out here oh yeah okay I don't know where but I got a fire pop man yeah I talked to him because I'm just massive yeah yeah like when he's quiet it didn't go hide yup and when he hiding don't don't think he sleep like all that looping Loop and loopy he ain't nowhere to go with it so I'm like man I got you I know exactly what to do and so like as soon as I got on I knew what to do and it was it was that like one take Jake everything bro and then you know Al heard it you know she went crazy you know like you know when I first heard the record I was like man this is crazy yeah this is Smash bro we should have won that Grammy that song too he was nominated for a Grammy that year okay I got nominated for that yeah yeah yeah yeah all good I love that yeah and I think you've done you've done some records that just have stuck wait I mean and like you know the reason I stopped with that her uh moment because it was like when I heard it it was so it was so refreshing yeah and so needed yeah to hear creativity yeah like like yeah I was just you could tell you I was just in there just getting to it like no rules yeah at all the vibe was um I'm someone amazing bro yeah thank you bro like choke hold amazing bro and it's like it's only what 14 songs or yeah one and two like yeah yeah and then um and then yeah and then yeah but it's like yeah you gotta keep playing them over and I remember the whole a whole trip in Vegas wow wow that's what put me under her wow he put me on tour you got because I didn't realize it was Gabby you know what I mean and he was like bro wow yeah bro it's this artist yeah telling you [ __ ] because I I don't think you knew I didn't know she was Gabby right yeah he's like it's this artist yeah he's like [ __ ] you gotta hear this [ __ ] that's cool and we both I don't think we both even knew that you did I didn't even know what we do we knew you I didn't know it was you yeah we know it was you crazy crazy bro and then to see what it is now yeah yeah yeah insane how do you get to the space of the production space but you you're executive producing albums because that's not the only project you executive produce you exec produce Brandy B7 incredible and Jessie J incredible bro both of them yeah like how do you get to that space is that something that they come to you from the jump or is it does it grow into that from like oh we just want to work with you too hey man you got seven songs on here you might as well be the executive producer yeah no like they just like they just catch a Vibe with me right away excuse me and like it's like it's fun and I I play them beats well before I start I'll just start playing I'll just start playing so yeah so they can just hear the range not saying you got to make music like this right but I'm gonna let you know what my range I'm like this you know who else starts playing all the time cool Damon Thomas just starts oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah cause if you got it yeah just something I'm working on yeah yeah like I'm I'm playing you know I'm saying then I got a folder of Beats and like I'm playing I'm playing them like six seven beefs and they they love them all and then I don't know where to start I'm like all right well just start somewhere and then we get to the like the seventh song and it's like oh we have an album we might as well just finish we might as well just keep going and that's how that goes and like it's crazy because like you know like I haven't thought about like like the uh like the ratio between uh man men and women who I work as far as artists and like you know like it's crazy how I gravitate to women more than men it's like I just they they can just trust me with like what they got going on and you know it's like and I ain't trying to do nothing crazy with y'all but just making music this is that there's that part right yeah that's very important yeah extremely important we know a lot of producers man yeah exactly exactly oh yeah creep van jerkies your success will get you women yo you're successful you don't need to be a creep with the artist no you don't you don't you're gonna mess the money up like you just mess it just they just don't need it yeah they say y'all y'all end up catching the vibe and end up wanting to go out and have a drink and oh that's fine that's all well and good beautiful when it comes to making music like and you're inviting a female a female artist you know what I mean a female period into a strange space make that a comfortable place for her exactly yeah they should come back and now you have the whole album make that comfortable right yeah make that respectable for that female artist period 100 yeah I hate that [ __ ] yeah I hate this [ __ ] I just you know what I'm saying it's just creep stock it's crazy creeps talented creeps yeah I'm gonna be like that bro I treat these women with I treat the artists women and but you know I mean let me help you I don't mean it right yeah you're probably you don't have a problem getting women yeah so trying to rest it on the idea of producing something probably never crosses your mind it's like first of all I love when I dumb up I love this [ __ ] yes you respect the art I respect the art first I love this yes but then too like I don't really I don't have a problem with women I don't know like yeah I need to sneak and yeah yeah we're good there and rub your shoulders while I'm playing this track I don't have to yeah that's kind of crazy yes next to the piano it thank you for that yeah yeah thank you for that yeah I I would never I just know what my task is and I I can't be distracted with that yeah so I'm just I'm just on the path and I'm I'm excited that I'm that I'm in this place right now and I'm just trying to just you know great work on them keep it going yeah thank you very much back in the day they used to say that I look like Babyface without the hair once one girl once you have success with one one woman all of them called you yeah yeah that's what he said oh amazing yeah so line them up you're you're you're you're in good company cooking amen yeah you know speaking of Babyface what is now though what is now for you so now you got the number one right now with Coco Jones yeah and the made a project this job which is really dope you're on that what is now for you what is your personal goal right my personal goal is to start my label now on Camp records and um and and and put out my projects my own personal projects yeah the cancellation volume one and then uh more Vines to come I want to do a gospel one you know I want to do a London version I want to do an afrobeats version I want to like expand and then I want to do my own album as a solo artist I want to get that going too sing it yes and get it yeah fast though yeah will you do it independently or you will you do it like with major partnership it just depends on like the type of love that I get in like you know in the business in but like I would love to stay independent though you know and just and just and just continue to run the back up that way and keep everything in-house and all of that but I guess somebody that like really believes in the vision for real and really wants to go there with me yeah you know I also I'll support that I'm with that I love that yeah so yeah all right cam come on bro brother you know you've hey man you you turning it you're turning your sounds 25. like you know what I'm saying Voltron okay we're gonna make a super artist we want to know where you're going to get the vocal from the performance style from The Styling from and the passion the heart of the artist anybody I can anybody anybody anybody so if you're gonna name one artist to put on your super r b artists yeah what vote where you gonna get that vocal from put them on a get on that stage it's a different type of passion yeah she gonna make sure you know oh yeah 100 these these were 14 hour rehearsal yes exactly 100 percent yeah easy easy this whole thing yeah this is the coffee understand what's happened to six cups of coffee too yeah 100 yeah no sleep yeah none none cause I'm all in I'm locked in yeah from the lighting to know what the lights is doing yeah what it and experienced it and witnessed it yeah but the one thing yeah the DJ camper cannot do yeah is say no names yeah so this is DJ camper yeah stay focused yeah you hear me yeah huh go go turn on some Marvin get you some Chardonnay if you really try if you're really trying to get into it huh if you want to if you wanna if you want a number one Nick this you should probably go do yeah oh my God but make sure yeah yeah you don't say no name 100 okay come on my brother all right I'll keep it cute man you know what I'm saying I see you you know I see you I'm Gonna Keep it I'm gonna give it come on come on but uh I ain't gonna say no names I'm saying I'm I'm I get invited to this session it's my session though but like it's another producer and the artist so like they told me at the start time was going to be like let's say it was three o'clock 3 P.M it's in New York you know I'm coming from Atlantic City on the bus again you was really hopping the ground yeah because bro like there's no there's no studios core Studios in Atlantic City you know and um you got to go to Philly which is 45 minutes away to record and but if they don't want to come to Philly you got to go to uh New York yeah NYC yeah Midtown 42nd Street right there yeah figure it out yeah figure it out and that's what I did I you know hop on the um ground I'm saying and I would just I would go up and do my sessions and I will come back home so the start time was three o'clock I'd get there I'm saying I'm waiting I'm waiting like the engineers there you know I'm saying you know it's four o'clock hour my car cool I'll wait I'm hungry I'm like but I don't want to leave yet because you know they can walk in any minute because it started at three o'clock five o'clock coming around six o'clock seven I'm still sitting there oh it's getting disrespectful yeah are you hungry I'm hungry you haven't eaten starving gay bro yo I haven't eaten I don't want to leave because if I leave I don't want to like Miss the opportunity because I was still like it was that time where I was still trying to like you know like get acquainted and improve myself and like be be accountable and all of that yeah of course sir yes sir like all right I'm awake and six o'clock okay seven oh six o'clock came you know I'm saying people in the back uh 7 P.M came 8pm nine o'clock I'm bro I'm like I don't know why I didn't Dawning me to like just make music you know what I'm saying but I would I would I you know cause like I wasn't leading the session so I was like I was more so like the key player but like I had my laptop with me too just in case like you know they wanted some drum and stuff but like just in case I was prepared for whatever so like maybe around like 10 30 bro artist walks in the producer walks in they got food with them like they went to a restaurant all type of cheese cakes and Oreo like vanilla flavor like cupcake ice cream cookies and stuff and like for them for them I'm still sitting there they walking in they playing they playing music she hops in the booth they laughing for like 10-15 minutes or before like they walked in like oh hey what's up like you know how you they did speak to you they spoke okay okay but that was it it wasn't like sorry I'm late I've been you know yeah it wasn't any of that it was having cheesecake yeah like you know they was like it wouldn't you care [Laughter] oh my God I'm so sorry like all of that oh my God it's cool she hopping the booth she doing a song to a previous session that has nothing to do with me and I'm like oh man so I'm basically just out here not doing anything not even working on a song not even like participating like so like that was like a then that's [ __ ] up type of story you know what I'm saying you just have to get on the bus and go home and I went home then I went home that night or on the next day yeah just still sitting there like nothing like waiting for like the coach to be like it's time camera yeah none of that happened so I was just there still hungry never time yeah they didn't ask you did you want something either nothing nope they ask you for my opinion not not not not no beats not not nothing not anything not even was it even his track though the producer yeah it was his track like he could have definitely was like he could definitely like yo like something yeah something like you know what I'm saying like that song was cool like I don't know what the song came out to this day you know what I'm saying but it's like you could have been like yo like you know especially if you knew you was there yeah yeah yeah yeah came for them did you ever call you did you ever work with them again I don't I don't I don't think so it's crazy because we have success with her prior because she did a single and it went crazy and then to get back in and it go like that to get back in yeah like they they yeah it went like damn like I don't understand how's it going like that I don't I don't get it so yeah that was kind of crazy bro like I could have been home you know I'm saying chilling but like I wasted my time like that like how people time I was young you know me so I was like you know I guess this is part of rolling with the punches but like yeah I waited for like eight hours in that studio not doing the goddamn thing but the flip side of that too though is that in your position now you would never do that anymore I would never do yeah oh I would never do it yeah yeah no you would never do that to something yeah no no no no no because and you're in the lead position now yeah but that is what we ultimately have to do yeah stay in this thing become who we need to become and then change how it goes facts that's it yeah exactly that's that's it bro you know I mean treat people better yeah yeah you know what I mean you know and you know it it has to become fuel yeah exactly yes it's all it's been look at it yes all it's been all these years and I'm I'm just ready to like you know like that torch up absolutely and go crazy like the fire is now like I'm about to say you you yeah you're going crazy yeah I feel like Kobe though like job being finished I'm ready for it all like whoever wants place you were a Monster yeah yeah monster of a town a monster of a human being always always good energy the same good energy yeah every time yeah we just laugh every time we see that everything life just smile and laugh on everything oh no matter where we at it don't matter don't try to find a joke in it you know what I'm saying like that or find the church in it yeah like right right it's always been that man and and you know we are on this um Good Guys finished first kind of thing yeah that's what we're on now I'm proud of you bro yeah man I'm proud of you I mean the first time I met you I
