DIY GAS MASK / HOW TO MAKE A SODA BOTTLE GAS MASK

what's going on guys so I was watching movie the other day and it was Cloverfield Lane and I also watched a movie called this is how it ends now on those movies it is like a doomsday scenario on both of them now in the movie they use improvised stuff at least on Cloverfield Lane she makes a gas mask out of a 2-liter bottle and I thought to myself well is it feasible can you actually do it so that's what we're gonna do today we're gonna make a soda bottle like a gas mask and all we're gonna need our household items cuz that's all she used in the movie so we're gonna try that and see if it's actually possible now good thing about this this is good for anything really I mean the volcanoes that's been happening they'll keep you out of that pyro class to whatever it's called that's that's horrible to breathe in so we're gonna make one household items only that's the challenge and we're gonna try to knock it out fast so we're gonna do that now so what we're gonna use in this project is a soda bottle this one right here is a 2-liter I'm using these two drink bottles well that one just fell I'm using these two drink bottles as the canisters on the way for the filtration system scissors or a knife I'm using gauze here for the filtration device for the cotton balls to hold them back and I'm also using cotton balls as well for the filtration device so what we're gonna do first is we're gonna take a line and we're gonna cut right above the bottom of it here so we're gonna take a line and we're gonna mark it all the way around now this is already got a line already on it so I'm not worried about that I'm gonna cut it myself once we have that then we're to go about halfway on either side you're gonna draw a line on both sides down all right so we'll go from the top here try draw it as straight as possible we'll stop right about there okay now flip it to the other side and do the same thing to about where it starts neck and down now what you're gonna do is you're gonna take it and you're to round it the best you can because you're gonna have the top part here going around the top of your head and this will go around the bottom of your chin so we're gonna round that now now you're gonna have to probably do some custom fitting on this to get it to work right the fit you have the way you want it to so we're to end up with lines like that on both sides so we're gonna cut it now all right so we're it end up with something small like this all right this will be a face shield and now we're gonna test it right now to see if I need to do any custom fitting like I said the smallest part will be here the hardest part will be this part you're getting fit right actually that's pretty good we've got that how we want it now I can trim some off the top which I think I'm probably gonna do what you want to do now is since you have this take your whatever you're use for your filtration device I'm gonna use two you can use one you can put it to the bottom if you want to make it real easy you know modify this however you want so I mean you could do this hot glue it stop it I mean be done so what we're gonna do to make it a little uh a little more legit we're gonna trace this on here and then we're gonna cut out so this fits right inside [Music] we got one whole trace there we do the same thing on the other side now we have our two holes traced we're going to cut these out now we have both of our holes cut out create a test fit and make sure they both fit in nice if it's good that fits good it's exactly what we want all right now this is done for now we're gonna come back to this I'm gonna take this take this off and I'm gonna shorten this down because this is way too long we're gonna do that to both of them do you think what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna cut it right around the ring here and then probably right around the top here okay so now we have them cut down where to end up with something like this what we're gonna do is we've got a hot glue all the way around but before we do that we're gonna take these we're gonna drill some holes in it so we're to do that now now we got our holes drilled in these and these now we're gonna take our cotton or whatever you use for a filtration device we're gonna stuff it full don't pack it too tight you want to be able to breathe through it though okay now when you're doing it take it and spread it apart you want to be able to catch the particles through the air but be able to breathe at the same time if you have a tight and woven and everything like that you won't be able to breathe so spread it apart and then put it in don't put it in too tight nice and loose like I said pick up the particles one now we got them both in there we're gonna put the lids on now or it wound down so this is what your canister is gonna look like when it's all said and done at least this is what mine looks like improvised do how you want to do it let's see if it's breathable oh it's breathable perfect you can look inside you see the cotton now this won't save you from a chemical attack or anything like that but this will be good for debris dirt um hopefully levar can Akash when you're in area where volcanoes you just want to do something that impede any particles getting in your lungs one thing I forgot you I told you you're gonna need is duct tape we're gonna use is a duct tape around here to create a seal around your face to give it a tighter seal and it's gonna give you a more comfort because sharp plastic interface isn't the nicest thing put an edge on it like that and try to bend it around the same exact area if you can make contact on the other side we've got our gaskets basically on both sides we're gonna finish up the bottom and we're going to do something on the top here too now you probably won't be able to bend this perfect so what I would do is I would take your scissors and make small angled cuts now we have our duct-tape seal all the way around the mask let's give it another test fit all right we got a good seal the whole way around now we're going to take our cartridges we're gonna screw them in place we're gonna seal up around this now everything's in place what we're gonna do is we're gonna take the openings here and we're gonna seal them you can use a coffee filter or filter a bag anything like that I'm using gauze I have these in my house so I'm gonna take a couple dabs of hot glue where I put on the outside this is just to prevent the cotton balls or what you're using as a filtration device coming back into your lungs - hopefully block any more fibers so this would be like your last line of defense of your filtration device now I just used four dabs of hot glue around this because what you can do when you're all signed done is to just yank these off and pull the cotton balls out and repack it so now our gas mask is almost done the only thing we're missing now is some way to attach it to your head so what we're gonna do is we're gonna take if you have a hole punch use a hole punch or scissors or anything like that where to punch a couple holes through the top here now use string or rubber bands I'm gonna use rubber bands in my case to attach it to your face now let's give it a test fit and let's let's try out alright guys so there's the finished product it actually turned out pretty good for stuff that you can just find in your house and make I think it's gonna turn out pretty good and it will work for you in a pinch hopefully get you from where you need to go from point A to point B
