the real severe threat tonight is up in arkansas okay we're going to just some hail a little bit of hail and it's not going to be major hail especially for our area we know some big hail here yes we do up to quarter size you know and that's still severe considered severe so that's possible in pretty much anywhere shaded in the green or yellow the yellow shaded area has that chance to see wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour in a storm or two now the severe threat overall tonight remains on the low side and i'll kind of explain why that is and you'll it'll be pretty obvious here in just a second 79 degrees was the high today low 64. right now it is 64. cold front is moving through north texas winds out of the northwest at 21 miles per hour so the cold front is in the dallas fort worth area as we speak look at this 78 in dallas but it's 59 in denton 43 43 in bowie but look at this i think this is incredible i was nerding out over this earlier it's a 30 mile difference between coleman and ballinger it's 83 there and 54 in coleman so a big contrast in temps and because that cold front is already here the thunderstorms that will develop later tonight will be what we call elevated they're not rooted to the surface that means there's no tornado risk we're not worried about that the damaging wind threat is exceptionally low it would be maybe some hail up to the size of quarters and that's it that's what we're really watching over the next several hours and right now this is just light rain in the dallas fort worth area and we take a look here there's that broader look and you can see tornado warnings in arkansas we will not see that type of severe weather tonight winter weather on the backside of this up toward kansas city we'll be watching to the northwest you'll see a little hint of this just to our northwest that's where things will start to develop and by the time we get to eight or nine o'clock you see this that's where we'll see that chance for up to quarter-sized hail in some of these thunderstorms these will not be intense intense thunderstorms it could be on the stronger side again hail being the number one concern but this is 10 p.m from sherman denton county eventually moving into collin county there's fort worth granberry and stephenville then by 11 p.m it's dallas it's mckinney it's up to bonham down through cleburne and waxahachie we'll see those thunderstorms and then as soon as midnight it's east of the metroplex but areas like terrell so kaufman county hunt county sulphur springs will still see this too one o'clock in the morning and then by three it's out of here and then we turn sharply cooler as we go throughout the day of monday wait till you see those temps so damaging winds large hail isolated tornadoes or the isolated tornado threat is is zero we're not worried about that it's large hail up to the size of quarters a quick tenth to a quarter of an inch is possible for the dallas fort worth area by monday morning there could be some isolated higher totals to the northeast but not a really widespread good soaking heavy rain we need a lot hopefully this spring will get a lot more tonight 40 degrees turns cooler with showers and storms tomorrow 53 53 much cooler than today when we were close to 80 degrees there's the next 10 days it stays chilly on tuesday also look at the second cold front by friday into saturday lows saturday morning teresa unacceptable 28 degrees so another freeze is on the way but gardeners you've got a week's heads up here so just take note
