Destroying A Dangerous Yellow Jacket Nest With Dry Ice. Mousetrap Monday

i'm just going to very calmly place the dry ice right there on the entrance in today's video i'm going to destroy a very dangerous ground yellowjacket nest using dry ice i'm out here at my brother's farm and recently he was working the fence line and found a yellow jacket nest the hard way they've stung them so many times so i'm going to have to deal with it now in past videos i've destroyed these nests by pouring soapy water down the hole that worked well but in this video i'm going to fill the underground chamber with co2 now dry ice is solid co2 and very quickly it turns to a gas and it's denser than air so it's going to go down and fill the underground chamber and euthanize the yellow jackets then i'm going to dig up the nest once it's neutralized and we're going to feed it to wild animals i've seen where skunks have dug up yellowjacket nests and eaten the larva so what i'm going to do is set up the motion cameras and see what comes along and enjoys a yellow jacket nest but first we're going to have to fill it with the co2 i'm curious how long it's going to take and i'm not going to wear my beekeeper suit at least at first if i start getting stung i'll put it on but at first i'm curious how well this works it should keep them from coming out of the hole and attacking me so let me show you the nest and then we'll start throwing chunks of dry ice down to see if it works okay you can see the ground yellow jacket nest there are some guards right at the entrance ready to attack anything that comes along what i'm going to do is place the co2 right there and see if it kills them then we'll add more until the chamber is completely full they look kind of agitated with me being here hopefully i don't get stung and i am by a busy road so cars might come along and wonder what the heck i'm doing i'm just going to very calmly place the dry ice right there on the entrance [Music] [Music] now i have got stung several times through my clothing but i was able to swat them it's not too bad they are so mad they are swarming the camera so i'm going to go ahead and put on my bee suit so i don't get stung anymore and we'll see how long it takes for the dry ice to work big old sprayer came by but this will protect me [Music] now i have a butterfly net so i'm going to see how many of these yellow jackets i can swoop up and put in a jar just after a few minutes they've stopped coming out of the hole completely now i'm just dealing with the ones around here that are already flying around [Music] [Music] here's a jar full of yellow jackets i caught in the net i'm gonna throw dry ice in there and see how long it takes for the co2 to work well there we go it does work it just takes time let's see how the nest is doing i found the main chamber they're pouring out of there but they're really slowed down with that dry ice that seems to be working well my brother's neighbors think i'm so weird you can see the top of the nest right there it's all soft [Music] there's a second layer [Music] and a third oh that's a good one we'll put the dry ice right there [Music] [Music] well overall in the tight confined spaces dry ice does work but there's a lot that are escaping they're flying out then they get the oxygen and they attack so it's not the greatest method but it can work so here's the nest we're going to feed to the skunks we'll set up the motion cameras and see what comes along and enjoys all these little yellow jacket grubs right there here's our yellow jacket larva buffet let's see what comes to the compost pile tonight and enjoys a protein-packed meal so so so well our skunk sure enjoyed the yellow jacket meal that we left them these larva must be a delicacy because they'll go to great lengths to dig up a nest i'm sure they get stung but to them it's worth it now if you find a ground yellow jacket nest i posted a video on the best way to deal with these i wouldn't recommend dry ice and co2 it just didn't work fast enough the best method i found is to flood out the nest with soapy water a few five gallon buckets and it will completely destroy the nest and if you have a yellow jacket problem but you don't know where the nest is i have a video on how to set up the ultimate yellow jacket trap very quickly i caught over 1 000 yellow jackets it is by far the best way i've found to deal with aggressive and dangerous yellow jackets now thank you so much for watching my videos and thanks to all the viewers who are sending me art i love seeing the pictures if you haven't subscribed to my channel please consider clicking the button i've posted over 600 videos on youtube and currently i'm posting new videos every monday and friday so if you want to see the best videos on how to deal with mice rats squirrels chipmunks moles voles and gophers and yellow jackets stay tuned let's give it a little flip [Music] you
