what's up everybody the point you know of this video is really just to educate people on my youth sports experience things that I've seen things that when I've talked to people you know that I play with and that I play against and people that have made it all the way to the top you know I try and try and ask them questions and try and learn all the time because I want to educate our youth on educate their parents want to educate the coaches you know in the bay in the Central Valley and all those things and really all over the country so you know I'm gonna start off talking about my youth experience first and you know my youth sports experience and you know really I play everything I played football I played basketball I played baseball I played golf I ran track you know anything and everything I could do I wanted to do it and it really started with my dad telling me no I'm gonna lie I want you to try everything you know because you don't know what you're gonna love if you don't know what you can be passionate about you know and you don't know what you're gonna be really good at you know so just go try it all man and have fun doing it so you know my youth sports experience was awesome because not only did I get to do that but my dad whatever season it was whenever I'd into season he play hey all right you know it's baseball season you know you ready ready go ahead some balls ready to play catch from absolutely so we got to bond and some of my favorite memories I remember hitting my first home run off of my dad and batting practice you know it was just me and him and 12 you know you know Little League fields in Bakersfield you know I took him over right centerfield um you know I remember you know playing basketball and with basketball season we're practicing I'm over beating my dad for the first time because I found the heck out of him you know I remember those things but I played everything basketball was my favorite sport growing up and you know I I really just kept doing them all and so yeah so I definitely played everything and I think it was vital for multiple reasons one was I didn't get burnt out I'll tell you this the only support I ever got burnt out from was baseball and it was because I tried and played on travel one time so I played my little league season and I got invited to be on the travel team and usually we didn't do that kind of thing but you know let's get to that age right you know starting I was really good shortstop good pitcher and you know and kid could hit the ball pretty pretty well and and so I decided to plan the travel team and I ended up getting burnt out you know end up not really caring for the coach too much you know just not it wasn't fun he didn't then he especially didn't make it fun and you know I remember a couple of kids they weren't the only one I wasn't the only one but a handful of us just had decided you know I was done and then the next year I was I was 12 years old I was gonna be at the top of the majors at that age group and after coming off a year where I had a great year Allstars everything you know and all that kind of thing I told my dad's I don't play anymore I'm done with baseball and I got burnt out and you know who knows man yeah I could have pitched complete shortstop you know who knows but you know I just got burnt out from it and it really wasn't for me and I found that by you know I say that by saying this I found but by playing everything athletically I progressed way better than some of my other friends you know they were ahead of me but just because I did different things that challenged me to do different things hand-eye coordination and all those kind of things you know I was around a lot of different kids playing different sports you know so I had a whole group of friends to play baseball a whole group of friends that played football whole group of friends to play basketball whole group of friends that ran track you know and all those things and so I had a whole whole different group of friends that played golf uh-huh and and so it was really beneficial for me because if I was never bored I was never lacking in that area socially or anything like that and I think it was vital to where I'm at now to be honest with you I'm not burning out of football when I when I get to that point I'll stop playing but you know it was definitely definitely fun is what I wanted to say I had a lot of fun growing up you know the like I said the coolest part is the memories that I have with my dad my first ever birdie you know chipping it in you'll practice in that sport then you know I said hitting the home run off I'm hitting you know hitting a few blind drivers right back at him on accident you know and nearly taking him out you know all of those things and you know shooting threes till my shoulder couldn't even you know hold up anymore throwing the football until I threw it exactly perfect to him on every pass and so I definitely had fun growing up and obviously it didn't hurt me you know I worked out all right for me and you know I get asked all the time would I do it differently and I would tell everybody that asks me if I would do it differently being younger what I specialized what I get a trainer what I do these things 100% know if anything the only thing I would do different is I graduated high school a semester early to go to college to play football and that's the one thing that I regret I promise you that I didn't play basketball in my senior year at Bakersfield Christian you know obviously it wasn't meant to be but that is the only thing I regret from growing up about choosing sports and things like that is the fact that I went to Division one college a semester early I regret that I really wish I just would stay and play basketball with my friends and gain those memories and you know tried to drop thirty that season but you know it would have it would have been a lot of fun for me but that is the only thing that I regret is not doing more of a different sport trust me when I tell you this you're gonna get so specialized in those things when you get to college and when you get to the NFL or the MLB or MBA if you make it because we know those numbers and all those things that you don't need to you need to have fun as a kid you know some some not gonna lie to you I see a lot of a lot of parents out there nowadays that push their kids into one sport because they may be alright at it but you know there's a lot of guys that are all right at it and they're probably better you know to be honest with you but they're playing different sports getting more athletic getting stronger getting faster all those things and all that stuff makes a difference to be honest with you you know and sometimes you know we get kids that get burnt out you know if yes my dad you know some of the kids that he trains yeah he obviously tells them you know he wants to train them and teach them because he did the same thing with me when it's in season but if you have baseball or basketball go play those sports we'll be the first ones to tell you especially at Carr elite we want you to play every sport we don't want you to just specialize now we'll train you for whatever you know season you're in or whatever that is but we want you to play everything and you know I think that that's crucial so if I can tell it parent anything is this is always make it fun for your kids I remember going over three striking out three times but I made a sweet stop at shortstop and I got done in my dad said dude did you see that stop you made it was like Derek Jeter you know in the World Series man that was awesome he's like let's go get some food man that was awesome where do you want to go and I never there was never a time I felt sad about my performance with him and with my mom and with my brothers now my brothers are a little bit more tough wrong me but that's that's how it's supposed to be but he made it fun no matter what and there were games in junior high I threw for picks in a game and I think three of them went back four touchdowns and and I got I got blasted a couple of times and all these things and he'd tell me he's like well I can't get much worse than that man just move forward and we'll look forward to the next one and I mean you make it he'd make me laugh you know but he'd never got on me saying oh if you do that Alabama will never wants you well it turns out as good as I was you know Alabama didn't offer me a scholarship so it's gonna be kind of hard anyway but I said I'll have to say this if I can tell a parent anything make it fun for your children please make it fun for them let them enjoy it let them choose my I told my dad he was he wanted me to play baseball that one year I told you I didn't want to he wanted me in place so bad but I was like that I really don't want to he said okay son if you don't want to we'll get ready for basketball we'll get ready for football you know whatever season it was and you know it was just one of those things and that I tell another the parents this is my dad always said this to me growing up and he remains constant he says just giving me one hour that give me one hour day to work hard with you because anything you want is if it's worth getting you have to work hard for it you have to outwork everybody and he did that with me every day just give me an hour day the other 23 he said I've raised you to be a good son a good boy and you'll turn into a good man so I trust you you can play video games you can you can eat you can sleep you can have your friends over whatever you want I trust you to make the right choices but for one hour just let me work work your tail off and we would and if that that made it fun and that that's a knowledge thing that I give to people all the time that's a little key you know of wisdom that God gave my dad that I pass on to everybody it's something I do with my voice that I will do with my boys when they get older and things like that and anything that I could tell coaches out there is you demand excellence all the time but those kids need to know that you love them if they don't if they don't think that you love them and that that's from your starting quarterback all the way down to someone on the freshman team who may never play football again after that season if they don't know that you love them they're not going to accept the criticism or the teaching from you and people wonder why players get mad at coaches and all those things it's it always runs the course of yeah maybe you do love them but maybe they don't know it so if those kids know that you love them and you have the best in mind for them then they're gonna do anything you need them to do and that's one thing where I had a coach tell me and it's crazy how you remember these things I had a coach tell me in high school after one football game my sophomore year they said if I was a college coach I would never recruit you that was terrible and I looked at him and honestly if I described the play to you you'd laugh but come I'll never forget him saying that to me and and I just just blew my mind and it really affected me for some time I went home you know so sad about it you know like man you know trying to think and that's one thing my parents never let me deal with they they they reminded me of who I and who's I am and so I knew that God had it all in his hands and it all worked out obviously so yeah so anything I could tell the coaches make sure those kids love you because I didn't know that that guy did you know maybe he did he didn't really show it so I have a lot of coaches that I've had and that coach was not at Bakersfield Christian um like I said it was my sophomore year in Texas so he was one of them and one of those coaches that I had there but it's something that sticks with me and something that really motivates me still to this day to be honest with you and if I could tell any of these players anything you want to make it to the NFL I've made it you want you want game balls I've got those you know you want you want bulldog you know trophies for student athlete of the year I got two of those you know I got records I have Pro Bowls three times in four years if you need the numbers okay if you need credentials to understand and respect what I have to say which I could care less about any of it it's just fun to show my kids someday I tell you this do everything play everything give it everything you have have fun doing it don't worry about scholarship offers even if the pressure is from home even if the pressure is from a coach or from your peers or any of those things you have fun doing what you do and you cut it loose man god bless you guys I appreciate I hope that this helps to be honest with you so in closing man just play everything do everything give it all you got but I find the guys that specialize get burnt out I remember the best kids in baseball I was ever around they did all year round and you know five or six years later there they weren't even playing they didn't want to do it same thing with basketball they'd be on AAU team this and that and that and that and I and all those things are good if you're playing other sports as well but when you just pick one and just think I'm gonna make it in this one I think the percentages go way down to be honest with you if you ask a lot of guys in the NFL I think they all played everything so yeah yeah I appreciate you guys taking the time to look at this and watch this hopefully it helps somebody but yeah god bless you guys go Raiders
