[Music] good morning today january 27th marks the end of lighthouse church black history recognition month i hope you all enjoyed our celebration on last sunday on this morning we will close out black history month with a conversation regarding a black history legend of mine in a conversation with my granddaughter here bailey [Music] bailey this morning i want to talk to you a little bit about a historical black history woman of whom i admire and i'm sure you already know who she is it's maya angelou have you ever heard of maya angelou yes i have she was a african-american poet she was in multiple movies and shows and we celebrate her every black history month okay great great well maya angelou was a very strong bold black woman and maya angelou lived to be 86 years old she recently passed in 2014. she's remembered for many things but there's one quote out of all the posts that she had said i hold dear to my heart and that is i've learned that many people will forget what you said people will forget what you did but people will never forget how you made them feel the first time i heard that i think i was a teenager and i thought wow and that's the lesson that i want to pass on to you people will not remember all of the goals that you met they're not going to remember all of the great things that you may do but they're going to always remember that bailey made me feel good bailey asked me how am i doing bailey encouraged me bailey cheered me on and if you remember that you will go very far in life a couple of things that i want you to remember is that maya angelou stood up for what was right she was very bold she was one that when she walked through the room or when she opened her mouth people would listen when she was nine years old she went mute she couldn't talk for a period of time because of an event that happened in her life it was six years that she did not speak however when she was not able to speak she said she listened so the lesson in that as well is we don't always have to talk if we listen we learn a lot we absorb a lot so that's another lesson for you as a young lady maya angelou is admired and she's a legend she gave lots of nuggets and when she spoke people listened [Music] so during the month of march here at the lighthouse church we will have several mothers having conversations with their daughters regarding women of whom they admire we will be recognizing women history month can we just put a praise in the atmosphere for your glory i will do anything just to see you yeah come on do it again do it again [Music] one more time [Music] me you know when i when i tell you guys i come back from africa and the sanctuary is filled with the sound for a moment i looked up on the stage and and i didn't see them singing and i looked at pastor raymond i said that's them that's that's them come on for your glory you you got it you got it you got it sounds amazing one more time [Music] oh [Music] thank you [Music] hey [Music] there you go uh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh gotta be [Music] oh [Music] [Music] hallelujah second timothy chapter number one [Music] second timothy chapter one verse number one the bible says paul an apostle of jesus christ by the will of god according to the promise of life which is in christ jesus to timothy this is paul he wrote this to timothy so that's why it's called timothy timothy is not the author he's the carrier to timothy my dearly beloved son grace mercy and peace somebody just speak it over your life grace mercy and peace isn't that something just just over my life grace mercy and peace from god the father and christ jesus our lord i thank god whom i serve from my forefathers with pure conscience that without ceasing i have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day verse 4 greatly desiring to see thee being mindful of thy tears anybody ever had to cry tears but i'm exchanging that that i may be filled with joy verse five when i call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee watch this then he gets personal and it was the same faith that was in your mother eunice the same faith that was in your grandmother lois and i am persuaded this is what he says that it's also in you how many of y'all ever had a praying grandmother or praying mother anybody ever had a big mama somebody in the family that was a matriarch listen to what god says i know you admired him but it's your time the same thing that was in your mama when she was praying for you he is now declaring it is in you now as you sit and have conversations with your granddaughter y'all got all of that all right let's go to verse six because now you got the substratum of what i'm talking about here it is y'all ready but but i put it in you so that you could remember that it is now time for you to stir up [Music] the gift of god which is in the by the putting on of hands here it is verse seven and we're done for god has not given us you got it now the spirit of fear but of love i think it's but a power and sound mine recently just last week i was in a conference with a hundred pastors and one of the speakers dr leonard sweet got up and he said something that blew my mind he said the problem with the church is we are we know our verses but we don't know our stories and so everybody says god has not given us a spirit of fear we know that text but we haven't connected it to a story so he said here's an example everybody says uh john 3 16 for god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life you got that but what about verse 15 what does john 3 and 15 say most people don't know that that's a story connected to the salvation of a man named nicodemus who says how can a man be born when he's old he said marv or not we're not talking about the birth from your mother we're saying that man must be born again i want you to get this whole story and then you'll get what i'm going to name it i i want you to know that god puts something in you that nobody else has [Music] and as he was with moses joshua so shall he be with you you have something in you that god gave you and all of hell has conspired to take it away from you some of you all have been given the gift of mercy and the devil's trying to turn you into a judgmental person some of you have been given the gift of love but hate has been all around you lately some of you all have the gift of helps but somebody hurt you and you decided i ain't helping nobody else god told me to tell you today that it is time that you learn how to defend the deposit god said it is time for you to defend what i put in you and i don't care what's going on around you i put something in you of value and it is time for you to stand up and to defend what i put in you touch somebody say defending the deposit you may be seated in the presence of the lord how many of you all need a word today how many of you online you need a word from the lord somebody say i need a word when electricity was newly installed into the white house in washington d.c president benjamin harrison was the 23rd occupant or the 23rd president of the united states at the time and in the mid to late 1800s when electricity first came on the scene nobody had ever saw electricity in a controlled environment you see when lightning strikes that's electricity they saw what electricity did when it was loose but nobody had ever seen like us there's electricity all around us there's electricity above us beneath us beside us behind us and and we're not afraid look at how unafraid we are this close to danger because we've learned how to harness it but in those days they did not they did not know how to harness electricity and so when they put electricity into the white house for the first time benjamin harrison the 23rd president of the united states refused to touch the light switches he was afraid he was afraid so here's what happened he was so afraid to turn the lights off that if nobody from the white house staff was around when it was time to go to bed he slept with the lights on because he was too afraid to turn the lights off are you with me so far i think it is safe to say based on that story and the stories of our own individual lives that president herbert hoover was correct when he said that fear is the most dominant emotion [Music] in the world not love not compassion the most dominant emotion the world has ever seen is fear he wouldn't turn the lights off because he was afraid and i want to pose a question very early how many things have you left on in your life because you're afraid to touch it how much trauma has been a part of your everyday experience because we grew up in times where what goes on in the house stays in the house and especially as a people we don't handle our problems we just sweep them under the rug our girls will be molested and be told you just got to learn to get over it same with boys it will happen to our young men and they will be just told it's a family secret how many how many of us grew up in family members and you don't got to say man just say ouch where somebody in the family looked like y'all but trying to find out their god brother or brother from god i'll let you boy he didn't turn the lights off because he was afraid to touch it and then i started to realize maisha that one of the ways human beings the way we express fear is we just won't touch it how many of y'all afraid of dogs what do you do when you see a dog pet him he don't bite good he won't ever get a chance to how many of you like to go to the zoo it's good to look at those animals behind those cages you like it because it's controlled but if there were no fences between you and the tigers if there was no glass between you and that lion you wouldn't be dumb to come here you're not afraid because there is no touch involved go to an aquarium and they say oh here's a electric eel touch it no i'm good we're not only afraid of the ill we're afraid of the water cause we don't like dirty water how many i just ain't putting my hand in no water that stinks snakes you won't touch them because one of the ways we express fear is is we won't touch and and sometimes what you must understand about people is that they're not upset with you they don't touch you because they are afraid of you because one of the ways we express fear is by not touching the pandemic has caused us not to touch we used to shake each other's hands we used to hug each other now what do we do now how many of y'all you really don't get funny acting in the pandemic you just see people like hey you can't even cough no more without everybody getting attitude [Music] i mean coughing is a natural function now you hear people call be you have the nerve to get an attitude cause somebody sneezed and and what do you do when you got a coffee sneeze we can't even sneeze freely no more because we're afraid of the ramifications of actually having to cough in front of people so man was only born with two fears the fear of sound and the fear of falling have you ever noticed a newborn baby if you drop something on the ground they jump they cry or if they feel like they're falling they will cry notice an infant never screams when he sees a pit bull notice that two-year-olds will put their hands in the mouth of a bull master and with your grown butt you running from a chihuahua because every fear that you have was taught to you by somebody who was afraid of it before you i'mma preach you afraid of what your mama was afraid of you're afraid of what your father was afraid of you are afraid of who ray what what the person who raised you you are afraid of what they are afraid of because every fear except for sound and falling is a learned fear you're afraid to be broke because you grew up broke you're afraid to be single because somebody in your life before you talked about how bad it was or are you afraid to be married because somebody told you how difficult marriage is every fear you have is a fear that somebody taught you everybody has fears everybody goes around talk i ain't scared of nothing you're lying how many of y'all hear people talk i ain't afraid of nothing i'm going to tell you right now watching online of those in the room anybody who tells you they have no fears they are a lie and the truth is not in them everybody has a fear somebody say everybody if you've never heard his name joseph stalin who was the old vladimir putin [Music] killed six million people of his own people by the way and yet he had he was such afraid of people that he had a seven bedroom mansion and he slept in a different room every night so nobody would know where he was a man who has the courage to kill six million can't even get sleep how many of you all have heard uh alfred hitchcock arguably the best filmmaker in the history of the world he was afraid of eggs how are you afraid of an egg because everybody has fears adolf hitler the nazi german leader who killed over 12 million jews was afraid of cats i can understand that one though because them little jokers are sneaky have you ever seen them cats just be walking around just no matter how big the personality no matter how much money no matter how cute you are no matter how strong you are no matter how famous you are no matter what your title is everybody has a fear everybody's pretending to be brave but most of us are scared the lion chases the zebra but if the tables turn he runs from the buffalo the alligator will ambush the gazelle but if an anaconda shows up he'll go the other way because even the strongest are afraid of something everybody is afraid of something and and i found out that the more brave people act the more afraid they are you'll you'll have people here right now you'll get in your car get in traffic on 59 45 and cuss everybody out and chase them and and almost go to their house to kill them and then go to the doctor and cry because you got to get a shot you have people who will curse people out but they are afraid of needles if you can't say man say ouch you got a nine millimeter ar-15 and you scatter spiders you see because everybody is afraid of something and what parents don't know is that before you ever teach them math you teach them fears before you ever teach them your politics you teach them what you're afraid of fear fear everybody is afraid everybody's afraid solomon who is the son of david the bible says at one time he gave over 1 000 offerings and sacrifices to the lord at one time he had a prayer life so extensive that twice in the bible he prayed over 30 verses can you imagine praying 30 verses long without taking a break without reading a manuscript he had such a prayer life god gave him the blueprints to build the temple because his father david could not build it and yet a man who wrote three books in the bible including proverbs which all of us live our lives by this man the bible says was gripped by fear so much that he refused to go to sleep unless he was surrounded by 60 men with their swords drawn because he was afraid what i'm trying to get people to understand and break down your pride is i don't care who you are i don't care what your income is i don't care what office you hold i don't care what house your neighborhood is in whether it is behind the gate or whether it is in the projects one way in and one way out i don't care if you're black or white i don't care if you're rich or poor i don't care if you're famous or infamous i don't care you all and we all are afraid of something and what i have found out is that fear is the most dominant emotion so sometimes we misread individuals we think they are mad but they are scared most of the arguments you're having in your house is over fear you think she's mad at you she's afraid that you won't stay you think he's mad at you but he's afraid that you might be like somebody else everybody's afraid we don't operate in ministry at church because we're afraid that they gonna do us like the last church did everybody is afraid everybody's afraid and what fear makes you do is blame everybody else but what you must do and the reason why i'm preaching this sermon is god has not given you no it didn't come from god it might have come from your mama it might have come from your grandfather it may have come from your cousin or maybe it came from you but god has not given you the spirit of fear but he did give you power love and what else a sound mind am i helping anybody so first of all i just want to identify all of the people who will be honest and say i've got a fear thank you thank you now we can get somewhere because ii timothy is paul's last will and testament this is his will this is his final words he's writing because he's about to die nero is about to cut his head off he's about to be murdered he knows he's about to leave here he knows the end is near and so he brings in timothy his most trusted leader and confidant and he says look tim i'm about to die man i have fought a good fight i kept the faith i finished my course i preached in asia i preached in ephesus i've preached all around it i've done it all asia minor i've done all of that now the news is coming i heard it they're on the way i'm getting ready to die i wish i could and and what's amazing about this pastor torrance is the amazing dichotomy of his position because on one hand death is about to throw its dark shadow across the pages of paul's life and on the other hand he's never been happier because now he's about to get to see jesus on one hand he's so frustrated that the work is not done and on the other hand he's saying i fought a good fight and i finished my course and i kept the faith is there anybody in here that has ever experienced the best of times in the worst of times like it's it's almost good but it's almost bad i'm almost through but i'm still in i'm losing friends and i'm finding who i should trust that that's how you know that you're in the stir that that's how you know because you get the backwards and the forwards you get the up and the down you get the end and the out and anytime your life is bipolar anytime your life is good and bad hot and cold smiling and sad rich and poor anytime you got betrayers and friends it's because god is putting you in the stir he's trying to agitate you because there are some things that won't release from the fabric until it's been agitated have you ever noticed you get a stain in your shirt and you wipe it off but you don't wipe it off what you're actually doing is wiping it in because some things don't release until it stirs that's why the washing machine says you ever notice the washing machine and the dryer have two different functions because once once it's released you can go in the same direction you get it what what see you're trying to say god i want my life to be good god says yeah when you release that stain i'll give you a pattern you can trust but while you still got that attitude and and you still stuck up an arrogant and treating people wrong two steps forward two steps back some of y'all been old enough to know that song i'm taking you through the forward and the backwards the up and the down because i'm trying to stir you to release something because i do not want you to arrive at destiny stained god help me good i'm teaching you today because because on one hand he's happy on the other hand he's sad on one hand uh death is about to cut paul's life short but on the other hand he gets to walk on the streets that he's been preaching about that have been paved with gold on one hand he's about to get his head cut off on the other hand he's about to lay his head in the bosom of god it is the best of times and it is the worst of times the hate crimes against christians are about to uptick nero's terrorism is about to be all over the place and paul looks at timothy and says i'm about to be released from this trouble and you got to stay here with all of this pain you got to stay here while russia is invading ukraine you got to stay here while there is a pandemic you got to stay here while they are jimmy reagan and jimmy mandarin the districts you gotta stay here where blacks and whites are not getting along you gotta stay here whether have nots have more i have less and the halves have more you gotta stay here where your income is going down you got to stay here where it's frustrating you got to stay here not getting along with your brothers and sisters you got to stay here with the pain and guess what in spite of all of that i'm telling you stir up your gift stir up your gift find out why you were born in the stern find out why you were created in this earth this is the time where you find out who you are you don't find out who you are when everything is going well you find out who you are when hell is rising and the waters are coming down you don't find out how much you can trust god with a million in the bank you find out if you can trust them when you got more outgoing than you got income you don't find out who your friends are when you can call everybody and they answer the phone you find out who your friends are when your reputation is going down and they still answer the phone for you is there anybody in here now understands that all that you have been going through was a stirring up of the gift i'm using this to help you to find out because here's the problem you don't know who you are which is why you don't know what to accept nor do you know what to give because if you knew who you are you would not accept what you accepted if you knew who you were you would not be calling that person your best friend you would understand that if that's your best friend you might as not have one at all if you understood who you were you wouldn't let people talk to you that way if you understood who you were you wouldn't work on a job that would overwork you and underpay you you start your own company but the problem is you are defined it by what they say and you are not defined by your gift somebody say stir it up stir it up uh when we were younger uh we used to uh drink kool-aid and if you don't come from a kool-aid generation you understand stirring because you little rich young thunder cats all of your drinks come together and concentrated juice boxes and stuff you you know y'all grew up in capri suns and and and you got you got palm wonderful good we have none of that the world is different everything comes in a bottle now now you can get every when we grew up uh we got uh full packages of kool-aid for a dollar and if you were cheap you got 10 wiler's packets for a dollar y'all don't know nothing about that there was a dime kool-aid was a quarter just just to show a hands all the young people who have never seen a kool-aid package in your life just raise your hand oh lord i rebuke you in the name of jesus they don't even know what a kool-aid package is it's it's it's a package it's foil on the inside brother and it got a little powdered dust on it if you breathe that stuff in you won't be able to breathe for two weeks it is potent and and you would take that that packet you wouldn't believe it it was in a little bag you tear the top off you put it in water but see but see if you ain't a professional kool-aid maker you can make a critical mistake here in the ingredients if you put cold water in the kool-aid pitcher you can stir all you want because let me show you young brother uh i'm gonna be praying for you since you don't know what kool-aid is i'm a prayer of your life before church is over this is how you add sugar to kool-aid and this is what it sounds like and and it all goes to the bottom but here's a critical mistake if you don't get this part right you're not a professional kool-aid maker if the water is cold you can stir it but you can't stir it up because everything is going to come up to the top then it's going to settle to the bottom you got to see you got to have lukewarm water because every once in a while god increases the temperature of your life so that you can soak up what he's putting inside of you it's called homogenization what that means is that you're taking the particles so that they can agree particles parked to cause see in order for you to become what god wants you to be you have to learn to mix the parts of your life most people want the water they want the sugar they want the kool-aid but god says life isn't a drink life is serious so i put some ups and some downs i put some good days and i put some bad days and what i'm expecting from you is that you won't complain sometimes my clouds will hang low and i'll hardly be able to see the road and i'll ask the question lord oh y'all don't why so much pain but but then here it is the mix he knows what's best for me although my weary eyes can see so so all of my good days outweigh my bad days help me church and i won't complain is there anybody in here that'll say like job though you slay me yet will i how many of y'all going through something right now just tell your neighbor i look good i look fly i look i know that but i'm going through something how many just touch your neighbor say baby don't get it twisted i am going through something i'm in the stir i don't know whether i'm going or coming i don't know if i'm happy or sad i don't know if i'm depressed or ready to i don't know i don't know whether i'm going i don't know but i do know that god is working things together can i give you some advice somebody say sir don't let this trouble make you steal you got to stir it don't don't don't don't let this trouble make you stagnant because you will judge the drink based on your lack of effort sometimes the bartender can put a drink on your table the good stuff will be at the bottom i'm talking about shirley temples and if you don't stir it you will judge the contents because of the effort you didn't put into it some of y'all are judging your life i got a bad life it's cause you won't stir it god don't love me that's cause you won't stir it why is there life better than mine because you won't stir you just sitting still complaining about the contents of your cup i don't have enough i didn't get it i'm this i'm that if you stir it up baby you can make something out of it i wish i had somebody just get up and turn around and say i'm stirring it up i'm stirring i'm stirring what he gave me i'm stirring what he gave me i'm stirring what it blessed me with i ain't got time to worry about you i got to use what he gave me somebody shall stir it up [Music] that's what he says he says he says i'm counting on you to do it your grandmama did it yo mama was a stirrer oh y'all ain't here with me today i i can't understand how you grew up with a mama of faith like that and you ain't got none i i don't understand how you grew up with a grandmother who walked the house clapping and putting oil on the doorpost and you sit here wondering if god is good if i put it in lois and eunice timothy is inside of you if you had a praying grandmother i need you to make some noise because the same thing that was in her is inside of you oh and by the way by the way it's your turn i said it's your turn it's time for you to stop calling your mama every time you got trouble and get on your knees and call your daddy it's time for you to stop having a conference with all of your friends by the time you call your friends you should have already gone to the lord and told him all about your trouble everybody just do this say stir it up stir it up stir it up if you would stir it up you'd be surprised at everything that's in your cup you'd be surprised at what your life really is if you would just stir it but here's what be honest here's what most of us do when we get depressed we stand still how many things in your life have you left on because you're afraid to touch it how much trauma in your life have you been afraid to confront how many things in your life that you can't get free from because it's taboo in your family y'all ain't supposed to talk about that well baby if you don't get that stuff out of you it's gonna kill you if you don't deal with the stuff that's settled in you oh no wonder you're angry and you don't even know why no wonder it's so easy for some of you to get an attitude because you started at a all you need is a tool you're already defensive because you were raised by defensive people you already ready to fight because all your life all your life you had to fight and the truth is you don't know how not to fight because all you ever did was fight and fighting got you everything that you have but the reason why you're unhappy is because fighting won't get you what you need let me talk to you because people think because they have what they want in their life that the strategy that they had was one that they should use in the future but do you ever understand why you still have a deficit because you need a new strategy fighting fussing holding grudges bad tempers blowing up non-communication gaslighting stone walling come on talk to me church and we get stuck in our ways and i called on the lord and he gave me an answer to tell you your mama stirred yes she did you know your mama's situation wasn't no better than yours i hope you know that because this generation think this is the worst the world ever been let me tell you something yo mama went through some stuff which your daddy she ain't told you about i know you love him but that joker was a mess i'm just telling you and and let me tell you something and if you got anybody here your parents 40 50 60 years old 70s let me tell you something their parents were a whole lot different than your parents your granddaddy them dane tell nobody nothing and if you asked you got knocked what they call out but my grandfather he ain't talking you better not ask him why he ain't talking you you don't have no questions why who is that none of your business they went to the grave holding things in the difference between this generation is that generation didn't tell nothing y'all tell everything i i listen i'm so glad i'm in the middle i have never seen why people go through stuff and go to instagram town y'all y'all i feel like i'm about to kill myself y'all i'm so angry what is wrong with you keep your business to yourself and then mad when everybody judged and you shut your mouth you don't get on live and tell your business y'all that's the problem with having talent boy there's something else somebody say stir it up i want to help you understand what stir means because this this might be antithetical to your theology when we go through stuff how many of y'all do your best to try to forget just can i tell you something it doesn't work when you try to forget what ends up happening is you create a version of the story that didn't happen so when you do remember you tell a version of the story that didn't actually transpire so what paul tells timothy listen to me he says i put you in remembrance the greek word for memory here are remembrance is a compound word it's anna monesco when you combine those two words it means watch this anna means to repeat everybody say repeat memnesco means to re-mind so when you combine the words it actually means that when you're going through a struggle god wants you to rewind your mind to the best part of the movie so when you are struggling in life god says i want you to remember what i did before because i don't care how bad your life is it ain't always been bad and i don't care how difficult the relationship is it hasn't always been difficult so when you're going through a rough spot i want you to remember how many of y'all got a favorite movie see my favorite movie you all know this is the five heartbeats and if if i could watch any part of the movie i don't have to watch none of the movie but that one part when they were singing if a heart is there a heart in the house y'all remember when eddie kane jumped off that stage because they was born because bird in the midnight falcons their cousin had worked at the place and told them this next group told me that they are better than bird in the midnight falcons and the temptations all put together i know i know i know but we shall see ladies and gentlemen the five heartbeats y'all remember that and see he came and turned around and they went singing but baby dialing them was on the front row oh y'all remember baby dow i cannot handle him today you're doing a lot man i appreciate it and and baby down there was on the front row and they weren't singing it like he wanted to so robert townsend's character goes pushes the man off the piano said that's my music that's my music y'all remember that now this is in the beginning of the movie now when when this happens it's a setup because the guy that's playing the piano he's intentionally messing up the melody i'm wondering how many people in your life are you letting upset you and you know they have one purpose mess up your rhythm mess up your melody and here you are still while they messing up a song you wrote i dare you to get up and push the devil off of the piano bench and say this is my life this is my story this is my future [Music] somebody shall stir it up push him off the piano plays the music eddie kane jump off that stage like only eddie kane can oh is there a heart is there a heart in the house tonight be quiet y'all don't know nothing you don't know nothing all y'all watchers marvel and and and these new movies thanos no we have movies in our day where you can see the mistakes and still watch it here you are letting the devil mess up your rhythm and you just standing there where is your gravitas this is my family this is my reputation this is my future and i'm not going to let you play a song that i wrote the way you want it god gave it to me this week this is my story this is my song praising my savior all the day long somebody shout this is my story the devil wants you listen to me he wants you focused on the withdrawals and god wants you to defend the deposit most of our days are filled with concerns about what was taken from us nobody's talking about what you were left with so they took a day they didn't take your life so they took years they didn't take your destiny it's time for to use the part to close to build a life because you can't build a house with only one material you cannot build a destiny with only one material you need concrete you need drywall you need nails in some instances you need asphalt why because all things work together for the good of them that love the lord and as long as you keep getting rid of the abrasive stuff in your life and only one of the smooth things that god has to offer you'll never be able to build a foundation to stand on because you got to have the up and the down you got to have the dark and the light you got to have the tears the sorrow and the joy you need it all and when god gives it all to you you learn to who am i helping somebody shall stir it up but most people won't why not is it because they don't have muscles nope nope you you have the muscle to lift it you heard about the lady whose baby was stuck under the car what did she do she picked the car up if i told you to go out in the parking lot right now and told you to lift it chances are nobody in here would that's because there is nothing under it that you care about so have you ever wondered why god puts you under certain things because putting you are things you love under certain things increases your strength you could lift it if you found out why it is not too hard you're just afraid and fear has crippled you you should have started that business eight years ago and sometimes fear looks like comfort because you got benefits and you got insurance and you got a health savings accounting you got dental coverage and so here you are unhappy doing something you don't love to do because you're too afraid to find out what it looks like to go out there on your own there's nothing wrong with fear there is something wrong when you make allow fear to make you steal you can put fear in the car just don't put it behind the steering wheel fear get in the trunk back seat perhaps but you can't sit up here where the decisions are made are you listening to me timothy is and i'm almost done he's about to be left by himself and that's a scary feeling too when you depend on somebody and they're no longer there paul's about to die timothy is about to be by himself and last decade that if god did it in this house he was going to do it for your house and i've been telling you he'll give you houses you didn't build he'll give you vineyards that you didn't play and that if you put on the garment of praise it would take care of the spirit of heaviness that's the god that i serve that's the message that i've been preaching so sometimes i look at you and i wonder where did you get that fear from i didn't teach it to you where did you get that lack of confidence from you didn't learn it in this house paul said tim where you get this from because god did not give you the spirit of fear and i wish i could talk about that but i really want to talk about the sound mind to sound mind how many of y'all right now you're in church stop freeze you was just thinking about something else just think about you you were here you were here oh i'm hungry jesus all you'll be thinking i'ma pick my phone up and check instagram but i don't want him to look at me so i'm gonna hold off a little bit power love and what sound mind he says timothy god is giving you a sound mind it's it's uh saporeno in the greek it means it means a guarded mind it means a guarded mind it's important for you to understand this because he he's actually saying that i have already put parameters around the portions of your mind that i will not allow the devil to infect an affect i've already i've already guarded your mind i've i've already given you guard rails to the degree that the enemy can inflict harm upon you because let me tell you when the devil really wants you he does not attack your money when the devil really wants you he attacks your mind two things your mentality and your emotions and when he attacks your mentality and your emotions you will make bad decisions in every other area he won't have to attack those you will do that yourself so what he says is he says i want you to guard your mind and and you've got certain ways you can do that you've got a eye gate you've got an ear gate in other words you guard your mind by who you see who you allow to communicate with you because a lot of the destruction that you are going through in your life is collateral damage when you are friends with negative people when your crew has a curse on it almighty god let me hurry up you don't believe me read your bible the boat that jonah was on was only in a storm because the storm was assigned to jonah because he did not go where god told him to go god told him to go to nineveh he said i'm going where i want to go i'm going to tarshish god says all right i'm assigning a storm to your life and when he got on the boat all of the people who were supposed to have sunshine in their life are now in a storm because some curses in your life are the clouds of your crew it ain't supposed to be raining in your life but you don't know how to pick friends it ain't supposed to be storming but you don't have the courage to walk away it ain't supposed to be dark but you won't stir up the circle lord help me i gotta go we've been friends since high school and that's why you've been in the same place since high school because you won't stir it up now if you can't tell i got attitude cause i'm i'm tired of scare people let the weak say i'm strong let the poor say i'm rich you have the ability to speak the opposite of your circumstance according to scripture no matter what it looks like but you have to stir it up john 16 and 13 write this scripture down the holy spirit john 16 13 the holy spirit will show you things to come you're getting ready to walk into your a season in your life where nothing's going to surprise you god will show you things in other words when fake friends come in your life you'll be able to see it no no no no no no some ain't right about this over here you getting ready to make a bad investment nope nope nope nope nope it's not the time to buy i'm getting ready to buy this house nope guys i'm gonna show you that same temperature as the jacuzzi we want to be able to get out of one and go another the water on the west coast is cold some area is like 60 degrees now you get yourself in 60 degree water i ain't talking about your hand your foot i'm talking about you get all the way in it you're gonna find out what your boy talking about florence swam the 21 miles in freezing cold water from catalina to california she was swimming for 15 hours after about 30 seconds i'm tired i how many y'all struggle to swim to the other end of the swimming pool and you're already touching it she had boats along the side of her with men with rifles just in case the sharks attacked her in the channel as she was going she swam for 15 hours in the cold water until her muscles began to atrophy she looks up to the men on the boat and says i can't do it anymore they pulled her out of the water and when she came out of the water she realized she was only 2 600 feet away from the shore she quit after swimming 20 and a half miles she quit with only a half mile to go the men on the boat was saying don't quit but she couldn't take their advice because their perspective was not herpes you'll get this what i'm saying they could see that the distance to the shore was just from here to there and they were like come on come on she couldn't see it because the head because you can't see the same thing when your head is down later on she finds out that she was 2 600 feet away she gets back in and she tries it again and not only does she beat it she finishes in 13 hours 47 minutes and 52 seconds and she said in an interview i'm not making excuses but had i known how close i was i would have never quit and the lord told me to tell you this is the equation you need to write down for the rest of your life fear plus perspective equals the action you will take when she had fear she did not finish once she changed her perspective she got in the same circumstance and finished an hour earlier why because fear will always add time to your destiny it's taking you long because you're scared what sense does it make to swim 47 years in life and want to quit cause you tired now you mean to tell me you gonna get depressed now after all you survived you mean to tell me that you no longer believe in yourself because of this circumstance and you have swam and climbed and crawled through many circumstances much colder than this one and now you want to quit the devil is a liar i need every florence chadwick in the room and online to say i will not stop swimming i will not stop fighting i will not stop praying airy work the works of the one that sent you while it is day because the night is coming when no man can work if you don't like what's happening in your community do something about it grab a little exegete that for you i don't but i am telling you he's saying you can be one or the other and coal ain't bad and hot ain't the best he says you can either be therapeutic or you could be soothing but don't be arrogant don't be stagnant don't be still make a choice god in the name of jesus fear has gripped our community there are people over in ukraine they're afraid right now but let's not get twisted their fear is our fear people are afraid in america [Music] people are afraid in canada people are afraid in the european union people are afraid all over the world people with power are afraid people who are powerless are afraid the rich are afraid the poor are afraid the black we're afraid caucasians they're afraid latinos they're afraid asians they're afraid indian americans we're all afraid but you have not given us the spirit of fear but what you have given us dunamis dynamic explosive power and you've given us the power to tread on the heads of serpents and scorpions and you will put enmity between the hill of the serpent and mankind and so god we're no longer afraid we're walking into our destiny and we're going to give you glory in advance that no weapon formed against us was able to prosper and that every tongue that rose up against us was condemned we pray for our children that they will be bold in their faith we pray for our grandchildren that they would be bold in their faith we pray for our relationships our marriages our lives our ministries our pastors our congressional leaders our local leaders our state officials our judges if we are to be humbled then you will heal our land we need you god like we have never needed you before send down your blessings down your angels let it rain and we'll be careful to give your name the praise in jesus name we pray somebody just puts those hands together and give god praise right now you may be seated in the presence of the lord somebody say i will not be afraid say it again i will not be afraid black history month is closing out i told you last week at least for this month we get to do this i'm extremely proud to be a black man extremely proud and i i don't know if you know it it was god's design for you to be born black you know that you could have been anything else other than what you are it was intended by god black people have been fighting for their place and rights since the inception of our knowledge and the reason why is because we really have no knowledge that predates our rival into this continent i mean you got to really dig deep to find out where you really came from nonetheless shackled in chains put on boats shipped across thousands of miles of vast ocean here we are with 1.3 trillion dollars of economic power and don't know how to use it through all of that we made it we made it we didn't get the 40 acres we didn't get the mule but we got the holy ghost imagine how far off and how better off you would be had you started with 40 acres because remember the man with the land is in control and i'm just talking to you this is black history month i'm giving you this i'm gonna bring some guests up and we're going home i want you to buy less depreciating assets and i want you to put your money into something that appreciates get you some property get you some land and and and if you can get you some dual citizenship because this thing is you know i get you a passport somewhere else the way this thing is going um did you not know in ghana that the ghanaian president has earmarked 5 000 acres of land for african americans to come back home things are changing you might say i'd never live in africa that's cause you ain't never been let me tell you go to the gold coast in ghana it's killing houston right now just so you know i am excited that god has raised up african americans to lead the charge in this city because if you're going to represent this city right you got to have black and brown skin it's just too many people of color here for us not to have representation um and one person as long as i've been here for 13 years say what you want has been fighting for black people and the rights of african americans both on the congressional floor and at the food giveaway none other than the congresswoman of this district sheila jackson lee i want you to praise god for her come on up congresswoman [Music] before she speaks we've got a couple other guests uh we've got harris county judge linda hidalgo would you stand good friend of mine county commissioner rodney ellis can you praise god for him come on up commissioner and lieutenant governor candidate carla braley come on and praise god for her now listen we're only going to be in here uh for a few moments so us just lock the doors lock the doors if if they try to get out i want you to stick your foot out like this and trip them no i'm just kidding um but but you need to hear this this is not this is not news cycle this isn't spin uh this is just us uh representing the people who represent us amen uh without further ado congresswoman sheila jackson lee well pastor you have stared it up you have stared it up and i am grateful to to you for letting us be here and for staring it up uh good morning lighthouse good afternoon we will take just a moment because it is a moment in history that i hope that you remember first the pastor has given us the pathway for victory and then as i look at this intergenerational dynamic members of this congregation i'm grateful for your time and i hope as i speak you will understand that it is the brother that doesn't know about kool-aid and the folk that drank it all of their life we're all together are we not and the one thing that divides us is when we start going off about that's an old person and i'm a young person well let me just say this i am ageless and i continue to be relevant to whether you had kool-aid or not that is because i'm a friend of your pastor would you do me a favor and honor him with your applause for a dynamic and wonderful leadership do me that favor [Applause] let me acknowledge judge jackson judge davis they are in the midst of re-election you've already heard of them and know of them remember those names lee merritt my dear friend was already here and i'm glad we have been texting he's on the way to his uh other appointments but i wanted to make sure that we collectively got to see you here at the lighthouse because as the pastor has spoken i've just returned from the ukraine region on friday night people wonder about the landscape of your representation i think he gave me my message of if you put yourself in a box if you don't do what god leads you to do if you don't take leadership where you are not expected to take leadership then you're not fulfilling and so in addition to wanting to end this gun violence take guns out of our children's hands and make sure that our health care is right and make sure that economic empowerment is right i'm not going to be denied the right to promote and to fight for democracy if i fight for it here at home where voting rights are deprived then i must also take the call of those who know my work in ukraine to fight for their democracy and it is shameful what a crazed tyrant is doing but you know what prayer answers all so i'm fighting for them in the arena of government but everywhere i've gone this morning i said praying people are gonna help ukraine get from under where they are just understand that if you were in your apartment in your home and somebody said send your wife on but brother whatever your age is under 60 and above 18 get your arms for democracy we've got to understand that pain but even in this place i can assure you that we are not doing our job when it gets on our nerves here they come again it's election time i don't want to hear from them again if we don't protect our own democracy because there are folk trying to turn the clock back 40 acres in the mule you never got it that's why sheila jackson lee is supporting h.r 40 my bill the commission to study and develop reparation proposals it ain't a joke it's real and it's going to come so i'm delighted to be in a community that is richly blessed by diverse representation and i'm excited that we have a county judge whose name you know not for her words but for her deeds and as we went through this trials and tribulation as much as they would come after her to say let him party [Applause] where we would have been a worse situation some of you have lost loved ones and even in the midst of that she was working to ensure economic development educational resources and keeping the county going would you give a big hand for judge lena hidalgo [Applause] [Applause] then i'm delighted that you have a commissioner who sits at the table so that they can be powerful together and to realize that this is a doing commissioner this is a building roads this is a making parks this is a investment in a real criminal justice system this is someone not afraid to fight for democracy commissioner rodney ellis two dynamic judges that you've already seen realize that their job is only to render the law justly and i can tell you just jackson and judge davis are just justice judges give them a very big hand all for reelection and then finally the person who holds the real tide of legislation in texas you all think of the governor that's another story and i hope you'll get vader a rock bart the lieutenant governor guys the pot not staring it in the right way pastor i'm sorry to say and so we have voting right laws that are suppressive and throwing ballots out i am glad to let you know that there for the first time in history as an african-american and a woman running for lieutenant governor carla braley [Applause] [Music] my friends you can do this each one teach one use your social media and get the word out on march 1st but the victory is in november 2022 will you please remember that the power of democracy being strangled out of the hands of the families in ukraine are in your hands in this country i say as i left ukraine glory ukraine which is their call to action but i say to each and every one of you god bless you god bless this church and pastor god bless the united states of america will you go with me to make a difference [Applause] so listen guys as we get ready to go stunt on your feet we're gonna go home um i want you to apprise yourself you can google this you can look at this stuff online um they are now making it illegal um you can't you can't give water and and and have people at the polls to to make the time go by fast for the line so that's illegal so you can be arrested for that also helping old people and also now with mail-in ballots uh the errors have to be corrected in person and so now that means that african-americans are impacted mostly for the lack of transportation and also elderly so now 40 percent they are suggesting or maybe 30 to 40 of those ballots will be thrown out because they are they have small incorrect errors i want you to see what's going on and the only way we can fight back is to show up anyway that's they'll show up anyway until we get people in office who won't play these games to take away our voting rights i put time into it where other churches run away from it because we can't afraid we can't afford to be afraid and run and one of the things they did is they told us that our tax exemption status would be up for grabs and i had to look at it and find out that the evangelicals had been doing this the whole time they had been supporting candidates the entire time and nothing happened to them so if they try to mess with us and we stand up together they can't do it because this is a government for the people amen somebody yes and we've got to fight back so i pray that you will do that on tuesday god dismiss us from this place but never from your presence allow us to get home and find everything in order in jesus name we pray somebody shout amen give somebody a fist bump on your way i'll tell them i love you ain't nothing you can do about it [Music]
