got my friend chris here today i'm going to conquest into helping me clean my driveway [Laughter] we've got two two separate pieces of equipment here today one i've never shown you the wind has finally settled a little bit so i think we won't be uh just wasting our time yeah it's been filling in the last two days has been impressive let's get started this is the third time we plowed from this one snowstorm it's very rare that we get a snow this large so we've been having a lot of fun with it throughout this episode we'll talk about some of the differences and similarities between these two plowing solutions and hopefully we'll get a chance to address some of the comments that you had on the earlier episode where we showed this artillion blade on the front of johnny's loader here you'll see johnny pushing a pretty big pile and not really sliding sideways at all there was a lot of comments about how the front of the tractor wants to push sideways but we're not seeing it here we really didn't see it as bad as what you might expect [Music] one thing i noticed about the ventrac solution is how closely the tractor follows the blade so you don't ever see the tires outside of the width of the blade we'll show you in a little while how johnny behaves differently [Music] [Music] what are your thoughts on this machine chris that's nice um you're right the curl is a little bit of something to get used to on this yeah as you put the blade down i see it floats out which is good i love the fact that you can do a high lift and do a high push because you only have so much room for snow and you got to have somewhere to push it so the higher you can stack it the better you are yeah that's one advantage to the curl too you can curl that back and then it acts like a bucket as you push it like that you you know in a straight push you'd have a hard time but it's harder to use because of the curl it gives you that little more feature i wish you could i wish it had a lockout yeah yeah i see what you mean there do you like the cab it's good i'll be honest with you the one thing i'd say about the cab is it needs a little more clearance for the quick steer oh i'm sorry you could you could lower your you could lower your steering wheel we'll have to try that again then okay you'll have to get another round you know you understand it's got a tilt wheel right yeah i was where i was sitting that to look at yep okay that that is yeah there you go life would have been a little easier yeah that that'll hurt your hands this you had to do the quick the quick shot okay we'll we'll let you go another round maybe we'll get christy to move out here somewhere and we'll try to tackle start to do this circle but yeah this will be a good little piece in here hey make sure to throttle up nearly all the way on that one about 2500 even more okay because it's a you know it it's got a rev that little tractor's got it wide open it's fine [Music] one frequent comment on the prior episode where we were using the artillion blade on johnny discuss the angle of curl we had set here given that this is a floating blade design that angle of curl doesn't really have much impact the more important adjustment is the boom height here you'll see that the boom might be a little bit too high and on this next round you'll see that chris has the boom uh quite a lot lower it could probably be a little bit lower yet but the risk is that you'll run that loader boom into the ground [Music] it's going to take several rounds to get this pile just keeps getting bigger other comments mentioned that we should run the loader in the float position that wouldn't work at all with this blade as the blade has the float mechanism built in the booms are expected to be suspended if you look closely we're still pushing that snow pile back [Music] he just keeps chugging whoops now it's pushing me out [Music] several comments said you need a snow blower yep would have been nice for this snow but we typically don't see one like this but maybe every 10 years we can push on a pretty good pile with this ventrac i'm sure not as high as you can with the tractor and loader front loader mounted blade but but it does pretty good with this light snow [Music] [Music] here's a good example of where you're going to see the wheels cut across the unplowed snow as he makes that sharper turn the wheels don't follow the blade at all the rear wheel cuts the corner by two feet or maybe even more now what do you think it's better when you can do that yeah again i like the lift i like being able to because you've got some hard some frozen stuff over here yeah old piles so you can get about yeah this does have a lot of i mean this actually pushes pretty well i mean you can feel when you start to slip and you just kind of let up a little yeah now these are those new hybrid tires those versaturfs and i think they get really good traction let me know considering what we're on this is good first of all i don't feel like i'm ever gonna get it stuck right it's not gonna get stuck and secondly you're able to push pretty heavy yeah it takes a lot before it ever starts to push sideways i think a little more than on this one um you know but i was pushing a pretty big pile with this one before i got thrown sideways chris i bet you a lot of people are asking why we don't have our duels on yeah in in the world of snow you're looking for as much pounds per square inch on the ground as possible so same as you if you've ever seen a plow truck they don't have big monster mudders on them they have something narrow with a tight cleat the whole idea is that you're trying to get that weight down so you can make traction if you put duals on this i think you're going to find that it's going to slip more than it does today you that or you'd have to double your weight take your pick yeah yeah i i think you're right um and by the way this thing is getting pretty good traction so i'm not really having too much trouble with it but uh and the the another couple characteristics that are interesting is if i have duals i can't turn a short i have to adjust the steering so that we have a bigger turning radius the last thing is that the blades not wide enough to cover the dual track so i i don't think i don't think this is intended to be run with duels and i don't think like you're saying it would work very well i don't think so yep [Music] it does a great job it handles well you know there is a cab version available [Music] it's a snow cap it doesn't have air conditioning so it's not good for summer but it would be nice today [Music] [Applause] uh he left a pile [Applause] [Music] [Music] i'm changing things up i'll go the other [Music] so [Music] it's nice i mean it really does have great traction i really do like this being able to come and feather it up though yeah and what we got above your moldboard height here i was able to put this at height make a circle break it down yeah and then i could come back and push it it did work really well i i hate to admit it chris this is kind of fun [Laughter] it would not be fun if i had to do it every day no but yeah i said i pushed snow since 78 and i still i enjoy seeing the snow kind of blow over the top of the truck sometimes yeah yeah well how about if you try the ventrac up next to the house here and see what you think of it okay sounds good [Music] i guess i expected to have some traction issues with the ventrac but i really haven't seen that i mean it's able to push a lot more snow than what i expected even even when you're trying to angle you know when you when you have the blade angle a lot of times it wants to push you away took a huge pile of snow to make that happen i have the weight transfer set to one that means transfer just a little bit of weight from the from the blade to the tractor i may not need any [Music] maybe i'll get on johnny and help [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] here you're going to see a key difference between these two blades chris can apply down pressure to the ventrac notice he's got the front wheels all the way off the ground the floating approach chosen by the artillion design doesn't allow you to put any more down pressure other than the weight of the blade itself like everything else in the variety of snow removal equipment there's positives and negatives to both i think the floating design is easier to operate when mount on the front of your loader i think it's a bit easier on your rock driveway but the down pressure can help you cut through harder ice i was trying to see how much how much could i really push as i lifted the blade this actually pushes a lot yeah i figured you'd notice that yeah as i started to climb up the other thing that i did you know you've always talked about down pressure so it was interesting that i could really use down pressure i had the back front wheels off the ground that i was trying to drag out yeah and that that was another good test it does a good job yeah i like the down pressure on this blade and you're right you can make bigger piles than what you think they could yeah i mean i drove up in there it's like okay it just keep going yeah hey let's go do the long driveway okay and then we'll call it good which one do you want i don't care i really don't which one let's say you had to take one home to do your driveway today one and a half and i get to keep it with all the five sides don't be taking this too far don't read the fine print uh i'm kind of liking the traction on this i'm gonna i'll i may all stick with this for a run i'll just uh see if i can see if i can blast all the way down and back okay i'll pitch it as far as it'll pitch and i'll just make it run we'll see what we get okay okay we're gonna do this a little bit odd it's been piling up here on the right side or the east side of our driveway we're actually going to try to move all of it to the left or to the west not the existing pile but all the new snow we're going to try to move that way just to avoid any more uh you know drifts of course about that time the wind will change and we'll end up drifting from the other direction won't we i may not be able to move [Music] [Music] [Music] now here i've got johnny up in the old snowpack trying to push it all back a little bit i have the blade six or eight inches off the ground just low enough to try to keep from getting stuck except i'm not sure it's gonna work when the tractor is having trouble it's bouncing i never noticed that with the r4 tires but with the versaturfs i think they get good enough traction when the tractor begins to get in trouble it bounces when it bounces up the wheels spin a little bit when it comes back down they stop that plant's working once we took the top off of that old pile we're able to push it back further [Music] [Music] my goodness that went quick it did what did it take us five or six minutes and that was doing a double pass to really clean it yeah and we pushed it out further than it had been that was a lot of fun yeah both of these machines are more than capable aren't they yeah i'd say so you were riding the old you were riding the old hard stuff breaking it up i kind of got almost got stuck there once or twice but i think you were enjoying that part i was doing that part i was enjoying that part chris i really appreciate you coming over yeah and playing with me a little bit it's fun when the big boys can have some fun with their toys so it was a good day to put together a blade and test it yep yep chris helped me assemble this before we got started this morning and uh it's it's worked fabulous yeah i i wonder how christy is doing behind the camera okay today better than yesterday it is it it's it's not a whole lot warmer today but it's a much nicer day yeah it was about 10 when we came out this morning it may be 15 now but it's the sun's out and it makes it feel much and the wind is not quite as high oh the wind and the snow it was it was not a pleasant day yesterday so guys i hope you've enjoyed this i'm ready for spring there you go me too thanks for watching everybody we'll see you next time on tractor time [Music] you
