hi welcome to the december 8th 2020 club cubase google hangout we'll get started here in just a couple minutes and i'm just going to do a quick test here make sure everything is going through as expected okay my name is greg undo i'm the host for the hangout today we will be uh answering questions that were sent in in advance we had a lot of questions sent in advance for this hangout and questions are answered in the live chat field i'm presenting from i work i work for yamaha corporation of america and i kind of focus on i.t where i kind of focus on steinberg products and i'm presenting from alexandria virginia united states just outside washington dc area so how the hangout works if you haven't been on one before is we will try to you could ask questions in the chat field we'll try to get through as many questions as possible so you will have questions can be submitted your questions can be submitted in advance to club cubase at steinberg dot d e if you want to do that or you could enter them in the chat field there's no special um like call-in number or anything like that so you could just kind of ask them in the chat field and we'll try to get through as many questions as possible so um if you're watching this on a replay you may want to skip ahead till like eight or ten minutes if you're watching this live if you could let us know if uh who you are and where you're from that would be it's always great to see uh people from around the world um and where people are watching from so we could do that so um and uh like many people here uh during the covid pandemic i have my family at home so i may get interrupted by my son you may hear my wife who's working directly above me i'll apologize um i may have to get a show on for my son i'll try to make any interruptions kind of as quick as possible so we'll try to minimize those when asking questions you know they will be in the chat field my ability to answer those questions um will be far far behind the ability of people to ask questions we'll try to answer each question succinctly and as completely as possible uh and as concise a manner so that we're not wasting people's time but if we could try to realize that there may be at times a 30 to 45 minute delay by time you ask a question to when i can get to it and it's not that i'm blowing off questions it's just we're just going to be try to go through them chronologically some of the hangouts we will have my chat field will run out of space and we'll get reset and i may lose some questions so i'll i will apologize in advance for that if that happens and your question isn't answered and somehow was lost it just it's kind of out of my control uh but if your question does get lost we will try to feel free to you know ask it later or or if you want to email it in sometimes you know but if we could try to refrain from asking the same question over and over and over and over again so you know we sometimes people they don't get their question answered immediately just kind of uh keep asking the same question repeatedly and that causes the chat feel to get kind of get clogged up because we have a lot of users and as we're kind of working with that if we could try to avoid that that would be helpful as well so also this is your first uh club cubase google hangout please let us know uh if if this is your very first hangout so and we will get started in just a couple minutes let's see who's on the hangout so you see we have ace from uh texas i believe all right so massimo from bologna italy i would assume all right so we have portugal all right all right so just kind of catch up all right all right so we have norway in the house we have j from um connecticut new haven i believe sorry there may have been some confusion with the start time of the hangout i may have put the wrong time when i had scheduled it so apologize for that so we may not have as many viewers today i may just put the wrong time like the actual time it was instead of putting it for 1 p.m so i apologize for the confusion all right good to see yon from uh who does the cubase index where you could search for different topics uh that have been covered in hangouts all right so we have soren from sweden all right so jan is from stockholm i believe all right so we have colombia we have london good to see matthew elliston from london all right so berlin stole all right so we have france all right so we have vermont okay so we have italy we have berkshire uk germany berlin we have jacksonville florida israel denmark canada do we have jazz dude who's uh in heidelberg i believe all right we're gonna just get let some people get logged in here all right so we have agent k we have pablo vasquez from galicia espana okay oh all right so we're just seeing some questions about zooming all right so if you guys want to start asking all of your questions feel free to okay we'll get started here in just a couple minutes very good to see neurotic nexus on hangout all right so we have scanbot terminator from milwaukee wisconsin all right we'll get started here in just a couple minutes all right so i see houston texas my brother lives there all right so we have taylor from pine grove pennsylvania so all right to see some more questions coming in all right so let's go ahead and get started so we're not so backlogged all right um it's a question from ace amadeus uh hi greg hope you and your family are doing well try to demo of iconica just purchase the full version do i insert new serial number into the e-licenser to convert to full version don't have to re-download so all you have to do is when you purchase the version you'll have your download access code or your e-licensor code uh so just simply enter the e-licenser code and you will not have to reinstall the you know 100 gigs of content or whatever um that the iconic coming with so uh so there's no you do not have to redownload it it's just uh updating the license and then you should be all set okay question hi greg from bologna italy thanks for these videos always useful i bought groove agent 5 but i don't understand what the perform section is for could you give some examples okay so let's come over here and i'm going to uh so in a full version of groove agent you have a little performance tab so at this point we could just kind of come over here we could activate this and this is going to allow you to do kind of like different note repeat functionality so i'm going to set up my keyboard controller for the correct octave bear with me just for a moment i'll just put a midi monitor on and okay let's get my controller to cooperate here get it for the right octave so i could trigger it okay so what we could do is if we have particular notes um and we want to do like performance triggers so let's say like if i wanted to come here to hi hats we could set up our different pitches here to do different uh note repeat functions so if i click on a note here we could kind of activate our note trigger so i'm gonna when i play the note i could now just kind of trigger so i will just go ahead and kind of get this set up so as soon as i play let's say hi hat i could do like quarter note triplets and i'm just going to check my video monitor one more time just to check so what you could do is kind of trigger different particular notes and have those notes triggered and generate kind of different rhythmic patterns okay so let's say i want this to be set to 16th notes i can now play you could trigger the sound so let's say we'll take this hand clap so i'm just going to hold down this particular note and we could have it kind of trigger the different let's see if my midi controller is deciding to not cooperate so well but what you're able to do is to set up kind of different rhythmic patterns here and you could say i'm going to play this particular note and as we trigger so my nectar controller is not cooperating but this could in fact would you know do what's called like a note repeat function so you could do like 16th notes you could do uh dotted eighths and then you could have it change velocity but this would allow you to do different kind of note triggering options let's see if i get my controller to wake up try one more thing here got to reinstall the drivers for my arturia but but that's what those the performance section allows you to do so you could actually just say i wanted this to do you know eighth note you know dotted sixteenth notes you could have okay i want this to be uh half note triplets and i want the pattern to change velocity or pitch kind of like this so as soon as you hit one of these notes like starting at c5 c sharp five you will be able to just simply uh have these notes repeat by these different rhythmic intervals just like that so okay so let's go ahead and move on sorry my midi controller is not cooperating so well okay so you see question uh recently about a new keyboard design for steinberg cubase it's from editors keys does anyone any of you use this type of keyboard so this may be for other people that are in the hangout so i i don't use the editors keys keyboards but i know a lot of people that do um i just kind of could do the keyboard shortcuts kind of from muscle memory so but they're helpful for a lot of people okay it's a question i've been using 10.5 lei pc and no i have to upgrade to pro artists there are enough difference in operation that training videos don't transfer quite right so it's always going to be a great investment i think jumping from uh like you know the lighter versions of cubase the you know if you have a 10.5 lei that probably came bundled with a piece of hardware so you know jumping up to pro or artist would give you you know significantly more capabilities and i think by time you know i i see a lot of people use their free program and by three thousand dollars of plugins to get the same functionality that they could and then just upgrading to cubase and have everything integrated so i think it's a good investment okay okay just see a comment that the arteria v collection 8 is out today so and someone's excited about that yeah so they make great plugins all right okay so we see hi from finland here finland day is finished music day and a birthday of sibelius one of my favorite composers i a huge fan of the second symphony so that's one of my favorite pieces got to play that a couple times when i was doing orchestral stuff okay just going through some introductions um how to make effects build up for a drop um you know so a lot of times you know people do um you know they're i don't probably have a effects kind of i probably don't have a good example for kind of like a riser um but you know if you wanted to do you know and that's where you could do kind of like a note repeat function um that that could kind of you know do the snare roll that starts off as like you know eighth notes to 16th notes um and kind of build up like that that's a great example i'm gonna see if i could just uh disconnect my midi keyboard one more time see we get the note repeat things this is a good area to try i'm just gonna try to disconnect and reconnect it see if it wakes up it's been kind of functioning okay so maybe we'll see if this is kind of working as expected okay i'm just gonna check my okay so now we'll see if we could get this going with the groove agent and this is kind of a similar thing like rhythmically what a lot of people will do um is set up so let's say if i'm here i wanted this to be say 8th notes and we'll make this 16th notes so if i play the particular sound so at this point i could say okay i just wanted to do this oh just kind of drag this over let's go to velocity so as we play the sound so if i wanted to do just like a straight so i if i hit the note once here you can say okay i want this to be 16th note triplets uh i wanted this to be you know eighth note triplets now instead so we could say let's take this and make this note 16th notes and i will just kind of make so let's come directly to here so now when i play this and i hold down uh e5 and then if i go to f so at this point you could so say okay i want this to be 16th note triplets so at this point so you can start off doing like eighth notes so those are some of the things that you could use a note repeat for for doing like even risers for an effects build up as well so sorry i don't have a good example for kind of like a riser but i'll try to see if i can have one for friday's hangout okay okay uh how to make drum midi use a stick uh use stick brush jazz genre so you know you could you know one of the kits that you get with groove agent we kind of i think we showed just a little bit last time uh that's really kind of set up with brush samples and a lot of brush work if you don't want to spend a lot of time programming it will be the simon phillips jazz drums so let's come over here uh and there's a lot of different brush kits directly within the simon phillips jazz drums and you know not only do you get the great samples but you actually have simon phillips playing them for you so i'll just go ahead and so let's go to let's say edit the pattern here so when you kind of look at the kit itself this is kind of just the jazz kit and then when you go to the patterns and you could have different levels of dynamics different levels of complexity so you could have like a lot of intensity in the pattern but soft dynamics or simple pattern but loud dynamics or anywhere in between and we'll go through a couple of other other brush kits here so you get an idea and patterns so as i want to just kind of come so when you kind of go through the simon phillips kits you know these have a great amount of brush work on the different snares so if you wanted to just have like you know your kick and you come over here and you have like lots of great brush samples so if i was looking to do anything that was brush oriented for drums this library is kind of worth the price of admission just to kind of do that so let's go ahead and load up just let's say maybe like a full swing brush so as we you know stuff like that that could be like really hard to actually program in midi effectively and this will automatically follow whatever tempo changes you have so if i just adjust the tempo here and if you want to add even more swing to it so i think that's probably going to be like the best dru brush stuff that you could get on kind of any anything for like programmed drums okay so i just see from matthew elston after updating the cubase 11 my ability to zoom with the scroll wheel is no longer working so let's go ahead and so let's say if i'm over here so it seems like mine is kind of still working as expected so let's say if i have my play position here so i'm just holding down check to make sure you know that the modifier you know i'm i'm currently on mac so my modifier is just the command key but you can come right over here and just be able to zoom using the mouse scroll wheel so you can zoom vertically or horizontally rather just by doing that so give that a shot i'll check to see if there's a preference for that to sometimes some of the tool modifiers may affect that so just check quickly under preferences so see if it's under maybe select tool yeah so um but you know check just again to make sure if you could matthew just let us know exactly which modifier that you're using for zooming um but i think that that is kind of working as expected for me and i know i was just doing it over the weekend on my pc as well so let us know all right good to see robbie bowling from dallas um okay so just the question a more detailed tutorial for yamaha mx61 and cubase so i don't have a yamaha mx61 i could see if i can maybe borrow one from the company and see if we could do one but i i currently don't have a yamaha mx61 but i may be able to get one on the loan okay so okay let's just keep going on just going through some introductions okay so my timeline jumped on me so let me just scroll back okay um so question is spectral layers compatible with cubase 10.5 yes so definitely is compatible with cubase 10.5 so you could use it as an ara in cubase 11 there were some extra enhancements but you could definitely run spectral layers in cubase 10.5 through an ara2 extension as a question will wavelab 7 run on windows 10. so after your email this weekend taylor i gave it a try and i was unable to get wavelab 7 running on windows 10 and i saw that in the system requirements it only listed windows 7 and windows 8 and there was a patch for 8.1 um i have kind of an email in to see if there's any work around to maybe make that work but i was unable to it installed kind of as expected but i wasn't able to actually launch it so i may say that it might have been too early a version for for windows 10. did you see a comment what an international meeting yeah it's always great seeing people from all over the world um uh so hello greg question in the editor section at bottom when selecting a controller event like velocity or volume and so on there is a system exclusive choice what is that and what would i use it for so if we have uh let's say some midi data here so let's say i have a midi part uh and you can see kind of in your uh different uh areas here that you could have system exclusive so in the controller so what a system exclusive message is it is a kind of proprietary midi message for a particular instrument so it can be used in a number of different ways sometimes like i have a right above my head a roland jd 800 synthesizer actually had it from my friend employees from my friend clay oswald to use it with gloria stefan records and stuff um amazing instrument but all the sliders that you move on that they don't transmit midi controllers they're all midi system exclusive so it was a way to kind of you know deeply integrate and control particular instruments now people would often in the old days of midi use a what was called like a sysex bulk dump and if you went and changed all the parameters in your instrument for every song you could basically take a snapshot of that particular instrument and be able to edit this and record this system exclusive data and then have it play back and restore the instrument so people would use that to store all their patches all of their internal patches through system exclusive so it's kind of a proprietary midi messaging system that is particular for each uh each instrument so a sys x dump from a roland d50 won't be read by a korg m1 it could only be read by d50 or probably it's rack mount you know version the d550 so those are like particular messages and often when you look in the back of like old synth manuals you'll see a system exclusive chart so if you wanted to turn on this particular function of the program it could be done through a system exclusive message so that's what system exclusive information is okay um okay so we have question how can adjust uh music to video clips and vice versa linear time etc all right so let's go ahead and we'll just do a video file here really quick we'll do a new project okay so let's say we have our video file um i'm just going to hit f8 and that will open up our video window so as we wanted to come here uh i will just open up an instrument let's say i want to do pad shop might play one note and have a an instrument kind of sound here so let's go ahead and let's say we'll do 80s film intro all right so let's say i have this particular sound and i'm going to be cheese ball film composer because i'm not a composer or player so let's say i wanted this to actually i'll start recording my midi part here so let's say i'll just come back okay and my midi controller is going to lose communication so i'll just open up my sorry about that okay now it's okay so let's say we're going to play the video we're going to score okay so i'll just do it from my software controller and i'm just gonna let me take it off my loop quickly okay so let's say i have this and it's my horrible soundtrack so we'll just and if i wanted a note to actually kind of start um so when we talk about kind of you know linear time versus uh actual time so let's say if i wanted to just put a symbol sound or kind of like a sound effect so i'm just gonna quickly add an instrument track and i have that going on and i wanted to just do just a quick symbol sound so i'll just do one from uh iconica since we had that mentioned earlier and i'll see if we can okay so let's say i want this particular sound here to line directly up so i'm gonna just play this and record okay so let me just okay i'm gonna check one preference here just make sure i'm not going crazy okay so let's say i want to so we want to have certain elements that are tied to the visual cue so let's say so say i wanted that symbol sound to come in exactly where the cloud starts all right so if i want that kind of tied to that of part of time but not tied to the bar and beat or follow tempo changes this is when i would place this particular track into linear mode so now when i go to linear mode and let's say my tempo is 120 beats a minute i'm going to go to 100 beats a minute and we could hear the rest of my music kind of speed up so as we do this or it's going to slow down but that symbol is going to come still at the same time so that's not affected by the tempo changes but is locked to the time so if i go from let's say 120 to 160 beats a minute um and i'll just go ahead and duplicate this so that event will always stay adapted so but this event regardless of tempo is gonna still happen when that particular sound when a cloud comes in regardless of the tempo change so when a track is in linear mode it's not going to follow the tempo changes when it's in musical mode that track will speed up and slow down with the tempo so hopefully that makes sense okay um so question how to set a preference for eq to default to 48 uh db slopes i don't think there's a um so let's take a look at it so if we go to our eq um so as soon as we come so say if i wanted to let's activate our low end we'll just turn on our pre so let's say we'll start with our um our low cut and we wanted this to let me just so let's say we want this to be a low shelf too okay and all right so let me just okay so i'm not sure if it's in the pre section that someone wants to just let me just reset all this okay so let's say we've turned this on i'm just blanking where but i think if you want to come over here what you could do is save as default preset so you could try that and even within the eq i think once you save it as a default preset you know you could set kind of the slope i'm just blanking on where to do that right now but i know it will come to me later but you could kind of set the slope and then i think once you just save that as your default preset that that will automatically load up so give that a try once you change it all right uh it's a question uh from india any differences in mac and windows versions so they're identical between the two programs i mean uh you know some super minor things like you know the preferences menu on mac is under the cubase menu on windows it's under preferences you know but really the programs are identical between mac and pc all right good to see uh michael teams from weatherford texas um all right so question from rick valentine good to see you on a hangout rick uh hey greg from charlotte just jumping back in i'll re-ask my question can i change the name of the lanes lane 1 lane 2 to whatever so let's go take a look at that i'm not sure if we can just do a new project here quickly let's do just a quick cycle record okay so i'll just loop this a couple times okay so now we'll get to our lanes uh so i don't think that these are uh nameable um but i think that let's see if you select the event you know here you could relabel the event so if you wanted to relabel the event you know so with this you know it's actually kind of taking the same uh audio file name you know because it's gonna carry the name over and especially if you um start working you know where you know if you're doing like cycle recording where it's all kind of one continuous audio file that's then split to lanes but in the description while the names can't be renamed you could uh actually just kind of select the event and in the description you could type in your own names but not for like the actual name here because it's kind of deriving the name from the file that's being recorded so but the description could be changed but not the lane track name so i hope that makes sense okay uh greg i wish there were an info for vst i often load a project and start playing and get no drums because it's not loaded in fully i have to wait and wait and then try playing a wish so you know we could give you like an indication that you know the project is loaded up you know so say like a lot of times as a project is loading i'll just load a big project here um so let's say if i load up this one this has a decent number of samples you know so we kind of see this information here that's a loading mix console and it's loading up the samples uh in the background for you so while the project is loading so once i do this and you know at that point it's kind of playing you know it could be more irritating to always see that your sampler your or your drum module isn't loading up correctly um so it could be more of a visual irritant um but i understand where you know maybe you'd like to see you know where that could be nice as a preference to be able to toggle that behavior so okay good great to see millard brown from pennsylvania on a hangout all right um so i just see a question hey greg i'm having a problem lining up my audio beat song that someone sent me to line up with my midi files to change the tempo what am i missing okay so if all right so i'm just going to make sure i have this correct uh so i'm having a problem lining up my audio beat song that someone sent me to line up with my midi files to change the tempo so it could be that you know the you know if the audio files themselves don't have a particular tempo that's been defined um you know that could be problematic so let's say if i want it so it could be that you know if someone did a project and they didn't have and the tempo of the audio file and i think this is how i'm reading it it isn't aligned with the tempo and the project so you know generally the midi is going to automatically follow the tempo of the project but the audio could be completely independent of that so i will just open up a project here which is like a quick two-track jazz thing okay so now let's say if my audio file is playing and let's say if i wanted to drag in like a midi loop of let's say drums so say i'll just so let's say i listen to this particular so let's say this is midi information and i drag it onto my timeline um and i will just turn my snap on so as we snap right here we could see that this will play i'm just going to adjust my volume of my jazz piece down so this is playing in tempo but we don't have the you know but the audio isn't following this tempo so audio often with you know generally midi information is going to follow the tempo unless you put it into linear mode like we saw before so if i wanted my midi to match the audio but the audio isn't with a particular click track as we can hear so what i could do now is just select the audio uh at this point go to your project and do a tempo detection so analyze this and i'm going to just listen to it because there may be some pickup notes so we'll say kind of right here is i'm going to some reason i have three bars of count in okay so let's say we want this to be so right now we're in one for time all right and i'm just going to do the tempo detection one more time just because we're on the offbeat so i'll just listen to it this time that'll be helpful so i'm just going to select that audio file do my tempo detection so we have to figure out what kind of what the tempo of the audio is so i'll do a quick offbeat correction okay so i gonna close that and now we're gonna just define where our downbeat is which looks like right here at the kick comes in so now that i have the tempo for the audio figured out at this point um i could just kind of drop this you know this midi information and have this kind of just start directly on the beat so as i play back just this midi drum pattern at this point and see if i actually so and then once we kind of have that then you know this will you know you could have the midi i'll just place the midi into musical mode now so you could just have the particular parts or the tracks themselves in the musical mode and now the midi is going to follow the tempo changes of the particular audio file now if you needed the audio file to play back perfectly steady of you know to match the tempo of midi kind of the opposite approach all you'd have to do is i'll just quickly remove this track is select the file go to your audio menu and under advanced you'll say set definition from tempo you'll hit okay and as we listen to this now i will so let's say if i want this to be 120 beats a minute now every single beat of the tracks will change and i could just say okay let's make it 144. and now this is gonna play back at a perfectly steady tempo but we have to figure out what the tempo fluctuations were at first for the for it to accurately do that so hopefully that makes sense if i'm misunderstanding let me know okay uh so a question from sir n68 uh have i understood room works correctly if i say it adds stereo width and running imager as an insert before room works to reduce stereo width is not to be preferred so you know we could think of you know think of room works as a reverb plug-in so you know if i wanted to take let's say just a quick um open up this project i'll just go to my sends here so just so say we have our vocal so i will come right over here and i'm going to add a room works to it and this is one of the kind of earlier generations of reverbs but still great sounding all right so i'm just gonna quickly add it so i should be hearing that so i'll just add another effects channel track and i'll just put this on a quick like a tiled room sounds change my mind i can't forget when we first met what i saw how can i feel how can i see all right so we just i'll just do another project here real quick i'll start off with some drums sorry about that so you know room works isn't necessarily designed to make things wider but if we wanted to uh just so if we wanted to work with that so let me just just kind of a simple pattern here all right so let's go check we should be hearing stuff let me just turn my metronome on see if that's okay try one more time sorry about that what dimension am i in what dimension am i in okay so now we'll add an effects channel track of the room works okay so i'll try this again see if we can dimension am i in what dimension am i in all right so i should be hearing the effect i would think let me just try see if it's just that particular plugin that's not acting well all right so but basically i'm not sure why we're not hearing it i'm just probably having a brain cramp but it's you know putting the imager you know you know if you wanted the room works to sound you know it's not intended to make it sound wider sometimes adding stereo reverb could do that but you could probably also kind of adjust you know the amount of width within this you know so if you wanted to you know even go to your effects channel track and you know you could adjust the width of the particular you know through panning so you could adjust that as well but you know kind of so you know rumors is going to be just a actual reverb plugin so it's not necessarily you know correlates to working with the imager to reduce the stereo imaging so okay so a question from sub 403 good to see on a hangout uh two questions is there a key command to expand collapse the different tabs i.e pre-insert sends in the mixer with one command when highlighted so let's go ahead and take a look i'll just add a bunch of audio tracks here okay so we'll get to our mix console and let me go to the larger mix console so if you want you could you know go to let's say your eq your channel strip and so i'm not sure if there's a hot key to do that but you could let's go to um just little so maybe if you check the exclusive expanded rack that when we come here that that i believe closes so we see this little drop down menu you can see the exclusive uh expanded rack and that way as you click on another area that will only show that particular area and will hide the other ones and if that preference is turned off you could have multiple sections and multiple tabs open so i think you still have to click to activate which ones are going to be set but if you wanted the other ones to automatically close try just checking exclusive racks and then as we come to you know here i go to my eq i'm going to see that we could close so but i think you may still have to um physically click to select which one is active without having a key command to do that but it could be mistaken okay go through some more questions thanks for all the great questions okay so question number two uh how do i assign machine studio in midi mode to control the scrub feature so you know what you could excuse me um so what you could do is probably set it uh i'm not that familiar with machine but if you get to your studio setup and go to like generic remote uh so probably some of the functions that you do is if you go to might be under transport let's say device and let's see if it's scrub is in here so you could jog left and right you could also just um so and you could choose to shuttle forward so it may not be one particular function that does that from your controller but you could have multiple knobs that can kind of play back and forth but i don't i'm not sure how what midi information that actually transmits but you could use to switch between just going into the generic remote and what you would do is you know click on generic remote from the top and then you could see the particular function that you have here so this is the incoming midi message and that could be hitting the knob on your machine controller and having that controller actually execute a particular command so it could be sometimes you know sometimes controllers will be like okay as you you know this you know moving it faster will change a midi message it will transmit different midi messages as you scroll to the left or right with a knob or with particular buttons so but each speed would probably need to have its own speed setup as a different midi message okay so a question uh from ryan wood composer hi greg do you know how to remove consecutive numbers from track names using the logical editor okay okay so let's say like here i have audio o2 you know so let's say i want to remove you know audios uh numbers from audio 2 through 16. let's see if we could do that let's get to the project logical editor um so let's say we want to uh let's say our media event or container type maybe is equal to track and under naming let's um let's see if we do so i'll just say 0-2 and we'll say through 16 let's see what happens so we could say replace search string of let's say zero three and let's say zero four so if you have a number and we're going to say parameter 0 and let's do one more so i'll just say name replace search string and we'll say if it has 0 5 and once you kind of make this if this kind of works as expected um at that point you could remove numbers and you could just have that kind of entered in once so you could say remove zero one through ninety nine and then that could just automatically replace it with blank so as you can see uh we have three four and five and at this point i could just say anything that has the names three four and five in the tracks just remove those numbers and replace it with nothing and then you could just at that point uh get rid of the numbers so give that a try ryan let me know how that works out for you all right okay so i'm seeing maybe a question russian or greek maybe so i'm not sure if there's a way to translate that or if someone's able to translate it from uh para fras records sorry i'm just a dumb american only reads and speaks english a tiny bit of spanish uh so you see uh question what is the best way to tighten up sloppy guitars in cubase um it could really depend kind of how it's sloppy so some people will do um you know just quantizing you know some people will make sure that you know we'll kind of slice parts you know if you know make sure that the parts themselves start on time uh so let's say if i wanted to take you know an acoustic guitar part here that was maybe you know i'll go ahead and just solo this i'll pan it so say i just want and maybe that we wanted that to be a little tighter some people we'll just do okay i want to quantize this to eighth notes and go to audio warp and if we kind of zoom in on this you know we i could just say okay let's quantize that to eighth notes and that could tighten it up to the grid so if we listen to it now you know and sometimes people will go through here and go to like free warp um you know so if you go to the audio warp tab and just enable free warp you could say okay you know like this part here you could just kind of put different warp markers and say you know i want that to be exactly on i want this to be exactly on the grid here i need that here i need this point and that point i need these to be and can i manually go through that so but it can really depend on what type of rhythmic correction that you're doing um ideally you want the best performance but you know we don't always get that but you know kind of doing a lot of free warping is a great way to kind of work on that as well all right okay i see my my cubase is kind of not quite didn't like my edit that i did here apparently let me see if it all right so i just see a question um hi greg a much respect question from vermont how does the continued upward jw plug-in technology square with how commerce in the recording digital music industry is being experienced um so if it's kind of uh so it could be you know i think if it's you know probably the level of technology that we're going to get for plug-ins let me see if i could restart my cubase here quickly bear with me just for a second see if it's going to restart i may have to restart the hangout here sometimes okay i'm gonna reboot my computer really quick so if everyone could hang on just for a couple minutes i'm going to just reboot i'll probably come back but it may be faster reboot so just bear with me just for a second all right so i think we're almost back let me just do a quick audio test and i'll just make sure everything's coming through okay sorry about that okay so again getting back to the question of um you know how does the continued upward dw plug-in technology square with how commerce and recording digital music industry is being experienced so i would say it's going you know if you're looking at recording studios you know it's obviously put a big dent in kind of a large format you know large traditional studios i would say that probably their business because of daws and the accessibility of technology high quality technology uh has put it kind of a damper in in a lot of rooms that were kind of used for stuff that could be done at home um you know but i would say that a lot of the people that have those rooms have certain skill sets and those skill sets are people will still often pay for so a lot of people can manage a room and still running a room because people will pay for their particular skill set so i think and they're able to do recalls and make little changes much faster as far as uh like the digital music industry for streaming you know there's uh you know there's not as much money in it for composers for artists so being able to do stuff for a lower budget makes it more immutable to actually continue to release tracks and do stuff that may have been cost prohibitive uh with these because the scales have changed from you know selling cds you know and obviously there's no concerts going on currently so that you know if someone you know wanted to be able to you know who wouldn't do a project because it was cost prohibitive to go into a traditional studio could do it at home and still come out with great results but i think you know skill sets are still skill sets and people that are really good can still work in a great room and can justify doing so and for other people you know they you know it's while you can have the same tools you know i could have the same uh you know word processor that john grisham has but i'm not gonna write like him so okay okay going through comments okay so just see uh from the tori uh clinton uh um so just see maybe this is a response someone else's i'm trying to match the tempo to video clip not time stretch trying to use the time warp feature work video clip so if you're trying to create a you know one thing that people will do when doing let's say a video project is often you know some people just kind of listen to it and kind of tap along you've seen composers do that and when they're first watching a particular video track to get maybe like just a sense of tempo and they'll just kind of and as they're working with that they may just do it a tap tempo so i'm going to uh we'll just import a video track here so i will and then some people will go through and use you know like time warp tool pretty extensively so let's say we watch our video and people will often you know just kind of go to uh i think it's in the project menu you could go to the beat calculator and i see some people just kind of tap and just kind of you know and as they're they have this open they'll just kind of tap along or they could do it with a midi note as well and just kind of get a sense like as they're watching it you could just say okay we're want to do a tap tempo so as we're playing let's say we play the project i think we can do this maybe not and just kind of come here and tap on the spacebar and say oh it's maybe 118. so they could start with that as a tempo now as you're also working you could do some technology called the time warp tool and what this will allow you to do is to say you know when we're watching the video you could say right here where we go to this to this park that's where i want measure six so you move measure six to right there and we can say right at this point where we see the clouds i want that to be measure 12 and then with the time warp tool enabled which looks like this we could just kind of make measure 12 fall right there and now as we play back and we put the metronome on we could have six measures of data of playback so that's how you could kind of go through and do some of your different aspects to kind of match up tempo after the fact so i'll just quickly activate this so you guys could hear so and as we're just kind of playing back you can have even number a set number of bars and cubase as we make those changes we'll just write in the tempo changes so if i added a tempo track we could see that there would be tempo changes just to kind of match between those different areas so that the tempos can you can have an even number of measures as opposed to having like a 15 16 or 7 8 bar so uh so question what is the best way to bulk export a bunch of midi tracks with patch names at once or is it only uh or is the only way just to do one track at a time so you know if you're doing so let me just uh so if this is doing uh midi tracks you know i would try to set it up for instrument tracks because so let's say if i have um i'll just get rid of these tracks here in this project okay so i'm just remove these selected tracks and let me just add some vst um i'll just go ahead and let's get to my vst rack so let's say if i have a pad shop sound so i will come directly here so i'm going to create a midi track based on that and i'll just draw in some nonsensical score here all right and i want to add another midi track so say it's going to mystic i will copy the same data down and let's come over here let's add another rack let's say retro log all right so i'll copy that data all right so we have all these different parts so i have my all right so all right let me see if my computer's gonna wake up again on me here sorry all right i'm gonna try to force quit here and probably would come back but let me just try force quitting one more time see if i get it back sorry about this okay so if we you know i would if you're doing midi tracks you know i would try to migrate you know there's going to be a lot of flexibility and more options when working with instrument tracks so if you're still kind of working with midi tracks you may want to consider doing uh you know migrating it over your template to instrument tracks which i know is probably not fun to do but let's go ahead and just try it again here sorry about that i don't know why my computer is being fussy today okay so i will just take my two midi tracks here and i'll just add a bit of random stuff okay so if you wanted to export these as audio you would just kind of let's come here and say okay let's get to our audio mix down and then i could you know just click on multiple and at this point let's do this i'm going to select all of my vst instrument channels and these are set to midi tracks i will after the export let's create audio tracks of these so let's go ahead and add that to the queue we'll start our q export and let me set my range for these and then you can see that these will just be my stereo out the mix between them will be exported so as i play this will this will be both tracks kind of mixed and then this will be my mystic and this will be pad shop that will just be rendered so i just select single and then just go to multiple and then i'll just go to my audio connections here quickly and reset it so you guys could hear sorry about that so now we'll you could hear everything and then these tracks will just kind of be independently rendered for each of the different parts so give that a try rick so you know go do single instead of single just go to multiple and then you could select all your vst instrument channels and it'll just be rendered like so okay um so i see uh from michael romanowski good to see you michael um so uh a question how can i export loudness track information in text so let's see if we can do this innuendo because in cubase there's no loudness track um so i'm not sure if it's actually exportable in text but we'll take a look so let's go to nuendo 10 3 and look for nuendo 11 coming out tomorrow so i will just come over here let's go to all right so i'm going to add a loudness track this is one of the things that's kind of different from cubase innuendos that we could have a loudness track and i will let's go ahead and activate it and record okay so now i'll come over here let's click on the okay let me just continue to record here sorry i'll just play some more okay so let's see if this quick analysis let me just set the range here see if that makes it different so if we wanted to select like our mixdown file um we do that i don't think that there's a way to actually see the report but let me just go to you know if you have your mixdown file or let's say if i have this let's see if we go to your audio statistics you can see kind of not the dynamic changes but what the overall what your loudness options are here um you know you do have the loudness meters but i don't think that there is a particular um way to export it in text um but you can kind of see the changes going on here but you know you could have that information you could see it in the statistics for like the selected file but i don't know way off the top my head to export it as text but i could do some more research in that michael um so i just see a question is this groove agent se that comes with cubase or full version so if it has like the note repeat and the performance options that's going to be in the full version and not in the se version okay all right good to see walter from st louis on the hangout okay my timeline just jumped on me so bear with me as i rewind all my chat field so i may have lost a couple questions um all right so just okay so i think we're okay with some questions let me just find our spot um okay okay see michael teams wants people to hit to whack the like button so all right so matthias from hamburg germany good to see you on the hangout all right and we have marcel in wisconsin okay so i see neurotic nexus has wavelab 7 running in windows 10. so i'm not sure if you'd if it was maybe installed previously and then kind of migrated over or if you installed it on okay and he's indicating you have to install the compatibility patch as a last step so i'll try that again but thanks for your uh information erotic nexus where taylor sapp okay so a question from doreen john uh how can i download and install my cubase on my computer so once you have uh your cubase going you could get it from the you know once you purchase it you can download it directly from the steinberg download assistant so when you come right over here you can go to your download assistant and you can now with the newer versions if you have a like a digital access code a dac code you could enter your dac code directly there and it will as you see it's updating for me as we do this but it will now so this is a program that you could just get if you get to the steinberg download access and let me just no one look at my password kidding all right and now it's gonna automatically install update and once you do this you can see kind of the download so you can just go to your cubase in which cubase version you can download that and then authorize your license and you'll be good to go uh so we just see a question hi greg are there resources for learning atmos implementation in nuendo 11 so i think we will probably see some stuff no window 11 is launching tomorrow so we'll see some other atmos oriented stuff i believe starting you know some more resources available after launch okay so a question greg is it better to work with channel strips or would you prefer to work separately in send insert area so if we have you know the channel strip if you're not familiar with it is every single track you know you could have four bands of parametric eq by default without having to actually you know instantiate a uh plug-in you could also have a channel shipper you have a noise gate compression you could have your eq de-essing or you could have it set up to do an envelope shaper kind of like uh you know for transients tape saturation and limiters so for a lot of these kind of day-to-day core functions i tend to use these functions and like for my reverbs delays coursing i'm going to spread across multiple tracks i would use sends and if i wanted to use something outside or third party i would use those as inserts but these are all you know you have different compression options you're gonna have different capabilities for your maximizers different tape saturators um you know so you'll have different options and you could you know change the signal flow orders these are all you know pretty comprehensive in functionality and just for you know to be able to say i want to have access to all those particular parameters without having to load up and manage a bunch of plug-in windows is very convenient uh so for like you know the channel strip type plug-ins i tend to use this you know for my reverbs and delays i would use send but this kid you know instead of like having to switch between 100 windows constantly that's a great way to work so i just see uh someone marcel mentioning awesome my visitor studio and i was just younging living in miami so it's maybe gloria stefan's stuff or maybe your studio crescent moon so yeah it was a nice room got to hang out with my friend clay there a lot so it's good fun okay good to see fuji on the hangout in cubase 11 when opening the key editor in a separate window does the play line keep the same location as in the main arrange window in version 10 it would jump back to the top of the session so let's go ahead and take a quick look so i'm going to just elongate this particular part and i will synchronize the views let's just put some notes in okay so it says when opening key editor in a separate window does the play line keep the same location as in the main so let's say i go to measure 17 here um let's say that's where my play position is i'll hit uh command or control e let me just set up my preference so i could just go directly there so to set my preferences to editors and okay so now when i double click here looks like it's at the same position so uh i'm going to move let's say my head here to around measure 25 let's say i go to the double window my play head position is kind of at the same position fuji so uh so let me know if that it looks like that kind of is behaving as expected so say i go to measure nine i go to double click on the part to launch the key editor and let's see so let's say if i go to 9 here for my play position double click go there but let's move it out so it looks like it's kind of the position is being maintained so but let me know if you see anything different fuji good to see in a hangout um so i just see from uh maybe tomy or tommy velenko which third party plug-in greg used the most um i don't do you know unfortunately i don't do many projects myself anymore um between work and you know family and stuff i don't have much time but uh try to think of third-party plug-ins um i'd say i like the lexicon reverbs i've always been kind of a lexicon snob from you know early 90s late 80s um so i like some of the lexicon reverbs um i think those are quite nice uh some of the yamaha like rev-x reverbs are also quite nice that come bundled with the uh you know the ur interfaces um so you could see some of those it's you know it's kind of a third party but you know it's still but just to kind of show you under reverb these are quite nice especially like the plate it's not the prettiest gui but um but those those are ones that kind of come to mind and a lot you know but i i have a lot of plug-ins um but i kind of tend to use more built-in stuff and i don't really feel the need to jump out but i don't do projects constantly you know my studio is more of a lab for figuring out different scenarios of combinations of equipment and workflow so question is there a way to generate just random midi in a midi clip for creative purposes if so are we able to use the new scale and chords to keep the randomness to a particular key or chord so if we're in a midi part so let's say i'll just erase this and um you know there's not i don't know of you know something that would just spit out random stuff i know people you know i remember going to uh it was uh sydney harmon of hartman carton you know owner of many audio companies uh at one point i got to go to his house and work with his son daniel and his son daniel would just kind of randomly do stuff like you know he would grab you know he was probably like nine years old eight years old and he would just grab kind of the paintbrush in qa's here so he would just kind of take this and you know select let's say the different paintbrush and he would and then he would just kind of you know quantize pitches to c major scale you know you could do that now hang on my son is knocking at the door he may be needing something bear with me just second all right so sorry about the disruption there so you know so if you want to do random stuff you know that's kind of grab the paintbrush and now you could come over here once you have some midi data in you could also so if i wanted to quantize this to d major we could choose to quantize but we could also set uh if i wanted to randomize pitch or velocity or length we could do this as well so let's say like i have all the same velocity and i wanted to use the logical editor i could go to the logical editor and i'll just say we want to transform and we're going to say type is equal to value 2 um and what we want to do with our value 2 which is velocity is we want to change uh value 2 and we want to set to random values between you know 40 and 100 so now instead of having all the same velocities you know we could just kind of come over here and choose to let me just say so i'll just say let's say type is equal to note uh value 2 which is the velocity of midi note message so set the random values between 40 and 80 and i'll say transform and now we could see the randomized velocities uh we could also say you know the length of notes set to random values between 0 and 100 and now you could just kind of change you know the lengths of notes too and still kind of keep it all within the scale so you know while it may not spit out the initial random data you could go and once you have data in there randomize it and then make it work musically harmonically as well uh any chance you could show importing or exporting between darko and cubase hopefully some sort of drag and drop options please thank you greg so i think uh what you know you could do hang on just bear with me one second sorry all right so um so let's say i want to take just a part between cubase and darker so i think most of the time people would export uh you know music xml between both applications so let's say if i wanted to come here and i think people will cut copy paste in but i'm not sure if you could drag and drop you know i think it's going to be kind of a topic that's being kind of developed as we speak how to get back and forth between uh both applications and more seamless ways that make sense this is for when you actually need to so i'll just do a new empty project okay so i don't think it's set up for drag and drop oh i guess it can so all right so there's my kind of random gibberish but i could do kind of maybe uh something makes a little more sense so let's say if i want to take this part here so it looks he can drag and drop so that's good let's zip up something that's a little more musical i'll just okay so let's say if i have this and i want to look at it in score editor okay okay so we get some different options for interpretation and now you could just kind of drop it right in just like that so you can drag and drop so uh so give that a shot okay all right so let's move on thanks for all the wonderful questions and if you've learned something new make sure you hit the like button so i see pablo's requesting a new controller from yamaha for greg he deserves it ironically sometimes it's easier for me to get controllers from other companies than from yamaha so the irony is rich but um okay reading through different comments and questions all right so just saying comment from jake linder these are so helpful cubase has honestly been killing the informative video game recently so i'm glad it's been helpful otherwise i spend a lot of time not helping anyone so be a waste of my time so i'm glad people are finding them useful okay so we have a question uh how do i get the metronome to play with a different sound like a hi-hat all right so let's say if i'm here in this project so you could have you know you could send it to different midi sources so let's say uh let me just check make sure this is playing okay i'll do a new project here but if you come over here um so i make sure everyone just just try opening up a quick project here see if we okay sorry about that okay so if you wanted it to play back with different sounds you could so let's say as we're doing this and we have our metronome you can go to your metronome setup under transport and there are different click sounds that you could use so you could you know go through different or if you wanted like vintage spike if you're looking for like a yuri click um but if you want a tambourine you could also click to use um you know when you click on um so you could use the steinberg click sound but you could also use your own sounds and if you wanted to just you know look for different wav files you could drop those in you could also send a midi out to you know particular instruments like groove agent or hallian sonic se and be able to play um you know directly from there so just go to your studio or your transport menu to metronome setup there's a number when you go to click sounds you know you could send it to a midi device you could send it to a virtual instrument you could save it to custom sounds there's different presets for those you can save your own presets you could also just kind of click and set up your you know different samples that you're actually using as well so you could do it right there okay okay i recorded a band and all the tracks with them playing is not in time and it's off is there a way to sync all of the individual tracks with very audio so they may be in time together so you know probably using very audio is not the best way to do that um you know what you could do you know if you have different sections that are let's see if i could create something that's just that will not get me flagged by youtube for a copyright um all right so say i want to take like two different things that are you know completely out of time with each other so okay so let's say i have this file okay and i wanted to take a completely different file and make those kind of work together okay so let's say i look at this and i will do a tempo detection on it okay so let's say we play this okay so i want to kind of define where the downbeat is so it's gonna be let's say right here at measure six okay and if we have other tracks that are out of time i will import those so i will take um let's take our jazz piece here and i'm gonna just place this later in the project all right so what i want to do is to take this file and i want to take the tempo information and i'm going to put this on like a separate track um let's make it a stereo track okay so we have the tempo information that's derived from this and what i want to do is to now grab tempo to advanced and we'll say set definition from tempo and i'm going to put this into the project and this basically embeds this tempo metadata into this file so once we see that so i'm going to select that come over here say set definition from tempo okay so that's done and i'm gonna do kind of the same process for the other tracks that are out of time okay so i'm gonna do a tempo detection to figure out kind of what the source tempos are okay so we place this not in musical mode let's analyze that and then we're going to take its tempo and put that directly into its file here so i'm gonna say let's um set definition from tempo okay so now let's say i want to take both of these files that are playing back at different tempos and i want them to uh so once we see that these are set to different musical modes i could drag this over so let's say we'll start we'll just kind of find a downbeat here okay um and this file will now kind of automatically so i'm just going to find let's say a downbeat here and i want to find maybe the downbeat of this particular file so now they're playing back at the same tempo i know it's like a horrible example um but you know once you find kind of the tempo of it and apply that tempo whatever tempo that you kind of place both files into they're going to dynamically change to match whatever the master tempo is of the project so if they're playing back again with variable tempos you know just do that type of function you can make it work and there is if you go to the cubase youtube video um i had it was maybe last year i had a composer mark roos a good friend of mine wonderful composer and he sent a file of like it was kind of like a programmed sequenced orchestral thing that was very nice and they had a real violin performer and the the person just recorded random tempo and so we you know if we when he lined up the tracks to the you know the backing track to the live performer it was completely off in just a matter of seconds kind of doing the same concept you could make those two line up very easily okay thanks for all the great question okay so good to see fred corey on the hangout fred will be our celebrity composer slash rockstar all right so tempo detection can i detect a tempo from a stereo file with bad meter and then fix the meter in the actual audio file a stereo track so the meter generally isn't assigned to the particular uh isn't necessarily a part of the file itself but what you could do is you know as we've done let's say it's great to see on the hangout fred um as we start you know let's say as you're working with this that you notice that um you know there is like as we start uh let me just start from scratch just to show this point to fred um so let's say if you do have you know multiple meters going on um so you could you know and why what you could do is once you do the tempo detection from the project so you know if cubase will place it at 1 4 time so i'll just shrink this as we play so we what we want to do is it's kind of figuring out where the beats are in the project so we could say okay um as i want to work with this um i will say this is going to be our downbeat and we're going to make this 4-4 but let's say we want this measure is a 3-4 measure at this point you could just enter in like three four and then let's say here you want to be a five four and then let's say you know at this point we go back to four or four so as we listen to this and i'll just switch my metronome back just so we could hear it a little better so i'm just going to use my default steinberg click so you know as we have these different meter changes so this way you could have you know you could actually have the different meters and you could just go through and kind of do the signature track quickly for whatever makes sense um so you know if the meter is changing back and forth you could do that pretty easily fred so let me know if that helps you in your situation but it's great to see you on the hangout hope you name your well okay okay uh so you just see from uh tanmay did the steinberg engineers look into the crash i sent so i sent it over so i haven't heard back yet uh and also from tanmay did you ask zed or zed's team about the project settings so you know generally i try not to bother a lot of our artists but you know when they reach out for questions next time i talk to them i'll ask them you know about sample rate and bit depth that they're using okay so uh hello greg how to make the main meter on the right work when i play a vsti and cubase 11 this meter works only when i hit the play button but it worked all the time in 10.5 so let's give it a shot and take a look so let's add an instrument track all right and let me just put my controller decide not to work again so let me just so that seems like it's working we're in 11 and i'm just kind of playing and the meter seems to be you know our meter on the right um so we're not in play as you can see we're in stop mode and now as i play the track i see the meter working on the right so let me just check um yeah so that seems to be working kind of as expected let me just see if it's uh if it's tied maybe to their global meter settings so let's see if this is if we have this set to input so that seems to be kind of working as expected so you know let me know if i'm misunderstanding but it seems like the meter is kind of working you know when it's not in play mode as well okay question um why can't i select plus 6 db and plus 12 db digital scam in right hand master meter so maybe it's set uh for scale sorry so it seems like it's all right so we see that um let's see if maybe it's with the project settings let me just see if we get to the project settings and if that makes a difference so let me just check see if it's in our preference maybe yeah i'm not sure why it's not selectable there's nothing that's kind of coming to my head but i could send that off as a comment as well to the team okay a question with regard to my massive problem from a while ago both run the same os mojave same cubase version pro 10.5 and 11 and the same copy of massive still it's black listed on one computer but not the other um so i'm not sure you know sometimes you know plug-ins will you know as versions are updated some of the tolerances for plug-ins uh can you know you know can get a little tighter so and it could be that you know if there's a 32-bit version that the you know that some of the 32-bit versions may get blacklisted but you could go to your vst plug-in manager i'm sorry or block listed rather and here you could actually you know choose to you know activate uh you know plug-ins to reactivate the plug-in so i'm not sure uh what you know could be causing that for you spend so why it's block listed so uh so question hi greg is there a way once i finish this song ready to mix that i could render all tracks to audio in one go straight to the current project or do i have to mix down audio and dragon manually so yeah you could definitely do that go to your file to export audio mix down in this kind of change positions in version 11 but you'll probably see like after export in previous versions you say you know create audio track and then once you come here say create audio track and then if you did a stereo mix of everything that would automatically insert it as a stereo audio track in the bottom of the project so just look for the after export functions and just choose to create audio track and you'll probably also see you know add to pool create audio track if you choose create audio track that will add create the audio track and add it into the pool so yeah you definitely do that all right good to see sir robert robinson from atlanta all right you see comment i like greg better than the ponytail guy and the beer guy i'm sure people hate me as well on their videos so uh but i think there's a lot of great resources that steinberg from different approaches that are always useful so okay so question i have a plug-in that has inbuilt sidechain support but cubase doesn't provide the sidechain option for the plug-in is there a fix for this i'm not sure which plug-in it is but you know if it's a vst2 plug-in it's not going to really offer side-chaining it's going to need to be a vst-3 plug-in so zenta if you could let us know that's part of the vst-3 specification isn't going to allow you to do side chaining so um so if it's a vst2 plug-in you know there are some like really odd workarounds of setting up in a four-channel bus but it's a it's kind of a painful workaround but you know if it's a vst3 plug-in then cubase should be able to see the sidechain option so okay so uh question from coast mastering how can i see the scrub shuttle dial in the transport i can't seem to find it no it's yeah they kind of removed it and i'm never got really good reason why uh but it's not really there so the functions have been kind of replaced with keyboard shortcuts which is basically what it was triggering before so if you come to the key commands you can map these for i think if you just go to shuttle play so here you could map these to kind of have a very similar functionality to what was going on but yeah so it's it's not going to be in the present form of the transport unfortunately all right we see patrick's learning some things today that's good all right sir robert was late so he missed the life the free lifetime giveaway of every steinberg product just kidding okay okay hi greg is there any way to change how duplicate in key editor places the midi notes i needed to duplicate bars thanks so what i would do um and is kind of use the in place editor i know that this is a bit of a work around uh and i've kind of brought this to the attention of a lot of people at steinberg in the past but let's say you know if i have a part and let's say i want to you know repeat this measure so what i would do is just go to um the in place editor so i think uh you know and you could actually just kind of i think it's it's command shift i maybe yeah uh so if you do go to the in place editor and you could add this if you go to the track control settings um so let me just just right click here and go to track control settings okay so track control settings and then there's the uh under hidden controls you'll probably see edit in place and you could add that as an icon so now if you click here and once you're in this editor you could grab the range selection tool so i'll make this a little smaller so you know grab the range tool and select the measure and now you could just duplicate that measure and then all that all the notes within that will kind of keep their same spacing because otherwise if you duplicate the notes it places it directly after the notes so try try doing that in the in the in place editor i know it's kind of a drag but that will work for you because you could use the uh range selection tool which isn't part of the actual midi key editor all right so michael teams wants people to hit the like button so if you've if you've learned something new make sure you hit the like button if you haven't subscribed to the channel make sure you do that as well alright we see kyle kennedy checking in from lunch break on work it's good we won't tell your boss you could you could stay longer it's okay all right so i am la leche again so okay all right reading through comments um okay so question trying to set a macro for rolled piano chords using pushback four is there an option to select the lowest note so i could chain the macro together so let's take a look okay so let me just okay okay so let's take a look um okay so it says trying to set a macro for rolled piano chords using pushback four so let me see if that's a logical editor function if it's a preset let me just take a look okay okay so let's say if i do this let me just select these and see if this okay so let's say if we want this and now to select the lowest note in the chord um all right so let's say if we have something that maybe looks a bit like let's say if we have this set for a rolled cord and there's also another way of doing this with kind of the split tool so if you hold down the alt or option key with this tool here you could just do that so let's say if you want to select the lowest note in this chord um so we could say we're going to select type is equal to note and let's say context variable maybe it's okay so it's equal to lowest pitch so now i could just let me see if this is we'll do it for selected so you could try this um so try a logical editor preset for this and then that could select the lowest pitch um and you could also say position in chord so let's say root note so let's say now i want to come here and that would select the lowest note in the chord as well so you can say position so if you say select type is equal to midi notes uh context variable is equal to position in chord the lowest equals zero and you could just choose root note and then that will select the lowest note for you so give that a shot and see if that makes sense kyle all right okay so a question from kenneth funk is there a simulated drummer software like in logic pro x i go to la film school for audio production sure i mean we've been doing that for uh much longer than the other other companies so when you go to groove agent yeah we could think of groove agent as being two different types of drummers we could think of it as like an npc style paradigm and also kind of like a virtual drummer paradigm so um i'll just do it with groove agent se because that's what comes with cubase so now if we wanted to load a kit with patterns um like some of the jazz stuff that we showed previously but i'll just load up this one and what's kind of cool about this is you know we could synchronize this directly to the transport so we could have patterns so you could have it automatically play different synchronize with that so you could have different patterns you could have different fills and what's kind of cool about this also is you could have different levels of dynamics it's not going to play back the same thing over and over again so we could have it play back kind of simple pattern softly or more complex with more dynamics so each of these patterns that we see in yellow can have 16 different levels of complexity and then we could also say you know every one bar go two levels of complexity up or down so it's not playing the same thing and every four bars do a random drum fill and let's say i wanted this to be like half time you could set that up as well and it looks like my cubase is acting up again not a good day for my computer is not liking me so i'm gonna see if i could restart this bear with me just for a second but that's how you could do some of your kind of virtual drummer type of functionality directly inside of cubase all right i'm gonna restart my computer one more time maybe we'll get this little gremlin out of here but my computer just seems weird today so bear with me everyone just hang on and i'll try to get back to you momentarily just hang on all right so i think we're back i'm just gonna do a quick audio test make sure everyone can hear sorry about that don't know why it's misbehaving today on me all right so i see a question um let me just get my audio connection set up here quickly all right okay so we had a question um what is the main difference let me just get to it quickly uh what's the big difference between cubase and nuendo so nuendo and cubase will basically be very similar programs so as of tomorrow there will be nuendo 11 and we currently are at cubase 11 so all the same functionality will exist between the two of them um so all the cubase features will be innuendo sans vst transit so pretty minor feature so but nuendo offers some additional functionality so it's gonna offer uh dolby atmos support as of tomorrow it's gonna offer dolby atmos panning and rendering it's also going to get into doing automatic dialogue replacement field recorder import import you have game audio connect for working with audio kinetics wise game middleware some additional plugins for you know doing more surround uh and more sound design functionality but you know you could look at it you know so if you're doing a lot of post-production a lot of game audio production nuendo makes a lot of sense if you're doing music production you know cubase would probably offer all the features that you would need but if you're doing other types of projects that's when nuendo comes into play okay okay so you see a question how you put the auto uni i assume that's auto tune so you know if you have files um we could choose to let me see i think you know if you have vocal files you know you could drop that as a plugin if you have auto-tune so you could just simply open that as a plug-in uh as an insert effect but also realize that you know with cubase that you're going to have very audio functionality as well so that would give you kind of tuning capability right out of the box and another tuning tool that you could utilize you know you could run it as an insert but you could also go to the pitch shift plugins and look at pitch correct and this is where you could kind of set the key of the song and have it snap to being in tune directly there so so a couple things how you could put the int autotune which i assume is um so what you're talking about all right okay so i just see question for the chat why is there always someone asking what version greg is using sometimes my projects may say cubase pro project 10 or cubase you know so there's confusion but some people like to think i'm always running an older version so okay just seeing lots of great discussion on the discord channel the jazz dude runs going through all the different comments thanks for all the great questions see comment i think i'm going to have to upgrade to 11 the added stuff is very enticing so it's definitely worth the upgrade or the update okay my chat field just jumped on me okay just navigating back looking for okay um okay just navigating back to where i was okay so i may have lost a couple questions i apologize for that um okay so you see michael teams paintbrush revelation of the day so okay okay so michael teams still wants people hit the like button okay so you just see a question groove agent free play into recorded track yes basic questions step by step um so if it's just that you wanted to play groove agent in so you could just kind of come over here and let's say if i have um you know depending on what key your keyboard is set up to let me just come here quickly and check my octaves okay so you know so if you wanted to just you know freely play groove agent in and i'll just make this a little louder so you can all hear it a little better so you know while it's kind of just playing in so i'm not sure what you mean by free play specifically but if you wanted to just come here i could just you know be able to just kind of sequence directly in and you know that could be like you know so i'm not sure what free play means but you could just you know uh you know load up groove agent and just kind of start playing different parts so and you know record it directly in so but if i'm misunderstanding just let me know um so question hi greg is there a way to have cubase automatically set gain level of audio file before mixing so if you have like a bunch of audio files and you wanted to normalize you know you could come over here so say if i want to take all of these files um and this may not be the best thing to do but you know you could select all of your files and go to audio to processes and choose normalize and then you could choose kind of you know i want these all to be at minus 6 db you could do that it made you know it's not going to necessarily make everything mixed correctly because you know you still would want some stuff louder some stuff softer and you know change the mix but if you wanted to do that you could just you know choose to normalize all of the files from the direct offline processing okay a very important question can we tune uh 442 or 432 hertz the project probably not what about very audio 442 you know cubase will kind of capture whatever you know if you're tuned to 442 cubase will record that but if you're doing tuning you know what i would do is you know if you had to do 432 or 442 i would select all the audio files and you'll see fine tune and then you could just raise it or lower it here so say if you're doing 4 32 i would just do all my pitch shifting i would set my fine tune to minus 8 and then just tune to scale so you could do that um and then you know once you have all the tuning done just simply knock it back up to zero so all these will play back at 4 32 or all the editing will occur and when you snap to being in tune will do it too for uh you know to whatever uh you know you have your the offset of your fine tuning uh so i just see a question hi greg long time lurker could we get a search box in preferences please yeah i've asked for that before and it's always like oh you know it's maybe it's a bigger long-term project to reorganize the preferences and they don't want to put a lot of effort into it before a reorganization goes in but yeah sometimes the preferences get moved or kind of you know reorganized with different versions so i would like to see it myself okay so a question from louis uh for someone working on many different tracks at the same time what is your recommendation and how to make a smooth transition from 10.5 to 11 so it's really going to be you know you know for transitions you know if it's worried about transition you could operate 11 just like 10.5 and then slowly work in some of the new features and functions as you need them but you know it's not you don't have to necessarily worry so much that it's going to be like it's not a radical change you know everything kind of works the same way except there's additional functionality so if you choose to use that and implement the new features and new functionality you know like you could really get into the squasher plug-in but if you you know don't want to implement that yet in eleven it would still be like you're using 10.5 so i would start projects and you know start starting working with them in 11 and then as you need a particular feature implement it and use it but you could still you know work in the same way in 11 as you did in 10.5 okay um so question how do you draw automation in cubase so if i wanted to go to this track we'll see we could open up your automation lanes here directly underneath so let's say uh i want this automation lane and then once that is open you could grab you know it will turn into kind of like your drawing tool and you can just draw in different automation just like that or you could just say i want to take this range and you know bring it down overall or tilt it up so you could do all sorts of curves if you want to do bezier curves you could do that so but just kind of open up the automation lane uh you could select the pencil tool or with the object selection tool hold down the alt or option key and then you could just kind of draw in your automation just like that okay so i just see uh from question from coast mastering michael in wavelab how can i see the meters of the transport time when capturing an analog send return i can see them when playing but when recording they stop functioning i could if michael if you want to send me an email i could set up kind of an external chain uh it would have to kind of switch computers because of my audio interface i don't have uh the way to i just have two outputs um so i don't really have a way of seeing it but if you want to email me i could uh check it out after the hangout okay okay so we see heather stallers asking would i be better off with a a 10 900k or 3950 x for cubase 11 price is no object i think jazz dude i see him kind of chiming in he does a lot of pc configurations for audio okay all right you could see gareth on a hangout okay um so you see question so i see gareth is saying i'm hiding from him so maybe i missed your comments earlier sorry so question is there a way to have from rick valentine is there a way to have cubase save all history automatically within the project i deleted all data to create a template for queue and somehow it's saved over original and backup does not have latest work um so say delete all data to create a template for queue and somehow it's saved over original and backup does not have latest work so i'm not sure rick if maybe if you deleted the data off of the drive if it was all audio or midi information but you know you should have up to 10 backups uh depending on you know when you started the process but you know there will be up to 10 backups so maybe just check to see if it was in an earlier backup so okay so we have a question is there a way in cubase 11 to export only stereo front left and right channel on the surround 4.0 master bus as it used to be in 10.5 so let's say if i have um like all these tracks routed to i'll just add a output bus here quickly i'll add a 4.0 so i don't know how it was in the previous versions off the top of my head but let's say if i have uh an lrcs okay and i wanted all the tracks here to just close my automation and i'm just gonna hold down alt or option plus shift and send it all to my lrcs out so now all these are going out directly to my lcrs so so i'm not sure if you're doing down mixing or not but let's go to our studio setup and uh so let's see if we get to our audio mix down we could choose our lrcs out okay so i'm not sure if you have this set up um if you've created a child bus i could i could jump back into um so let's say here on my like my 4.0 output i just have this set as my stereo out as my child bus that and let's go to the export audio mix down here so um i could do some more experimenting and see if you want to email me at club cubase at steinberg.de i could um i'll do some more research on the 10.5 version and see so all right so is zoltan checking in from hungary welcome to the hangout all right so just kind of saying over and over again about the fix mix music so how to do an effects build up in groove agents so we kind of showed that earlier during the hangout with some of the um more rhythmic aspects of the note repeat so okay um so you see a question um i see gareth is saying free cubase i'll have an upgrade for people with red youtube channel icons so that's good all right uh so question hi there when i have a question about hi there i have a question about groove agent when i click and drag a pattern in the pattern window one of the pads and drag that uh and drag that without groove agent track what i hear is not the same as when it plays in groove agent by hitting pad all right so let's say if i have um a groove agent here okay so let's say we have one of these and i drag this out so say we have the pattern so let's say we'll go back to all right and let's say i drag this out to my pattern here let's go ahead and listen to it so all right so i think one of the things that you want to do is um i think if you just click here and kind of drag the pattern out that so try switching yeah so make sure that the omni mode is on here and then i think that will fix the problem for you uh it's a question is there a possibility to open a folder in the instruments tab with double click um so say if we go to our instruments i'm not sure if this is the instruments tab um all right so let me just go over here to media say instruments um so here i could double click and you know so i'm not sure if that's the instrument tab that you want for that so maybe vincent if you could let me know which particular instrument tab question is cubase 11 actually able to use all 32 cores of the 3950x yes all right i just see comment just give me a half price upgrade from 10.5 and i'm happy and should be happy anyway so there's lots of great stuff so i think you know from 10 to 10 fives uh you know for just one of the plugins is probably worth it so at double the cost okay okay so i just see a question from uh heather staller i didn't even activate my 10.5 yet once i activate it since watching from since switching from sample to pro x4 suite will i then have to pay extra 100 for cubase 11. so if you haven't activated yet it's always going to be the latest version or within like a month of release so if you haven't activated it yet heather you're going to have a free uh update to version 11 because you haven't activated it yet okay so i see gareth bought a spectral layers the basic version take advantage of the uh special going on instead of cyber week uh so question is it possible to have a bounce selection file show up as a lane on the same track instead of replacing track so i don't think so but i think if we don't do a bounce selection so i'll just do a quick test but yeah i requested something similar or bounce selection to new track kind of function so let's say if i just do a new project here and i'll just check where our folder is i'll do a new folder okay so we look at our pool window all right so we have our nonsensical name i'm going to bounce the selection and not replace and we see if we see both of them in the pool so nothing kind of automatic but you could if you choose not to replace it you could go not to media bay but to the pool and drag the file to a lane if you wanted to but nothing automatic but i think it would be nice maybe to have a bounce selection to new track version bounce selection to lane so i'll mention that to our development team okay so i just see a question from heather does it have to be this is probably her cubase 10.5 license activated today to get the upgrade to 11 free no it's whenever you activate it and if you waited two years and cubase 12 was out then you activated it it's always going to be the latest version upon activation okay so you see someone else's is liking the range selection tool in the in place editor that's good okay good to see the hot mess bandmates on the hangout um so it says hi greg i'm selling a ur 22c and want to remove the basic plug-in suite for uh for it how do i do it i don't see an option in e-licensor program so if you're selling it um i i haven't not sure what all the latest information is on kind of selling the plug-in licenses uh but if you have it on your usb e license or it could be transferred to someone else's usb e licenser or you may want to try to reactivate uh on you know you could also look up how to reactivate soft elicensers but i'm not sure if that's applicable when kind of transferring it to someone else but you could read up on that i could do more research if you want to email me afterwards okay um so hey greg can you explain when you would use save new version instead of save as when i'm uh trying different approaches to mix i'm not sure if i should use one versus the other they kind of both get you to the same uh in from to the same area if you do a save as that will you know you could name it the same thing and overwrite the previously existing file but if you do a save new version i think that will you know put you into you know will maintain the pre-existing file okay uh so i just see is there any way to create something like an aux track like we have in pro tools so i'm not familiar with pro tools but you know you could send stuff you know to a so if i wanted to send this particular track to a group channel i could do that so now i could take like all my drums and send it to a group channel or if i wanted to send this to an effects channel we could do that as well so this way i could send it to like an effects return channel like an auxiliary send or we could send it to a group or to both so but let me know if there's something else that you wanted to accomplish like signal flow wise with that okay uh so you see a question from uh gareth uh i applied to tryout a demo of r d partico but the link i was sent doesn't work why isn't portico in the download assistant so probably some of the portico plug-ins like the installation is actually handled by yamaha and some of the different components and the coding it's actually kind of a yamaha plug-in that's distributed through steinberg so that may be why it's not in the uh download area but you know check just to make sure like if you had a license code that it wasn't sent you know it could be like in a spam or kind of junk email folder so it might have gotten flagged by that so check that but if you need more help just email me and i can get you a link but i think it's probably just gonna be on a website all right okay so i just see uh greg i don't understand why the new scale feature was added when you could already do something similar with a chord track in the chord track you could set a scale for the project you could but um you know it wasn't as obvious for a lot of people and coming and people starting off with daws or people migrating from other daws you know they wouldn't necessarily think to go to the chord track to look for scales so we wanted to make it a bit more obvious and there's some other functionality such as you know the quantized pitch that wasn't in there you could do live input that you could do with the chord track but it probably wasn't as immediately obvious to users so that's why they wanted to make it plus the scale system also goes a bit further in allowing you to set user defined scales so um and for a lot of composers that's kind of a big deal okay so you see how to record midi inserts like the arp by apache into a midi track so let's come over here all right so i'll just pop over here to like a base part real quick okay i'm just going to check see where my midi note is here quickly okay let's see if my midi controller is causing my computer to act as soon as i do my midi controller that's my midi controller is not making my cubase happy here all right let me see if i could do a quick force quit so it seems like every time my midi controller might be the culprit in my issues today let me just see if i could try here very quickly okay so it's good take a look at setting this up for we'll show you how to record from like the apache straight in okay and okay so let's say all right so i'm going to use my so my virtual keyboard here okay so let's say we get to my midi inserts and i'll do our patchy so but you'll notice that we're gonna have this little kind of actual uh record icon here so i'm going to there's a couple ways of doing this so let's say if i play so when i do this um and let's say if i don't have this particular icon on i think it's my midi controller it's causing issues and disconnected entirely here all right so so now when i come let's say i record in i've just actually recorded just a particular chord and that's all that we recorded but it's going to play back through the arpeggiator so i go to my midi inserts let's say we'll come here and now if i wanted to turn that into a particular uh arpeggiator what i could do now is go to to freeze midi modifiers and now that's automatically been kind of mapped out through the arpeggio that i generated but if i wanted to actually record the arpeggio in real time all you'd have to do is we could activate the apache and click on this little red icon so now as i play and let me just turn on my virtual keyboard here so now i'll just record and since it's red i this little red record icon is on so now it will automatically take the output of the arpeggiator and record that as if we played it in so just make sure that you on the actual part that you click on the record icon here if you wanted to convert what's going through the midi effects in real time go to your midi menu and choose to freeze midi modifiers okay um so just see from i'm not sure which exact question this is referring to but the drum tracks seem only to be for the acoustic drum sets um so if that's for if it's related to groove agent you could do either uh you know you know electronic you know hip-hop edm stuff in addition to acoustic stuff so okay so i see uh cannot open my cubase project it closes automatically um so you know try to if you hold down uh alt control shift or command option shift that and then you could uh you know start the program without third-party plug-ins and while resetting different uh you know resetting the preferences and see if that makes a difference so you should probably be able to open it and maybe resave or re remove a couple of plug-ins with that you all right just reading through different comments okay all right just all right my chat field jumped on me bear with me just second ain't just trying to find my okay so okay finding my where it was okay so i just see question from tanmay what does auto select control and indicate transpositions do in the key editor so let's go take a quick look okay so okay so um so auto select just see if i can find those all right all right so let me just see if i could transpose a couple of notes up so i'm just seeing if i could find the auto select control so maybe tammy if you could just let me know where the where you're seeing this functions and i can maybe try to give you an answer on that okay reading through different comments okay so i just see from tammy why is there a click pop whoosh sound when i pause a playback and return to start position enabled so check to see if um you know if you have a click sound maybe it's a reset midi message so if you go to preferences we can come over here and just say uh maybe under editing midi you could check to see what um like if there's different reset options or the the different chase events so check check to see if you change the chase events if that makes a difference so i'm not sure if you're not sure if you're hearing the whoosh sound from an audio or midi but if you could let us know that would be helpful all right it says i currently use fl studio but i'm seeking to get big into film score should i switch to cubase yes um you know it's used by you know pretty much all the top film composers and it's really kind of you know very feature rich for doing film composition with stuff like you know sample management as well as um doing you know different articulations scorings all that great stuff so uh hi greg is there a way i could splice let's say a drum loop sample straight to individual midi tracks so they can be mixed individually you know kick one trace snare on another so let's say um so if you wanted to you could just you know if it's starting with like an audio drum loop so let's say if i wanted to come and let me just so let's say if i wanted to just work with my like an audio drum loop you know so it could depend there's a couple different approaches so one is if you have like let's say just an audio drum loop here you could just take this into a groove agent se or you could take it into the sampler track if you wanted to so we'll show you both ways so let's say i'll add an instrument track and it's going to groov agent se and at this point if we drag this onto the pad we go to slice create slices now each of the different slices are automatically put onto different pads each of these pads can have their own output so you have up to 32 stereo outs if you wanted to you could also take this to like the sampler track so if i wanted to draw drag and drop this loop into the sampler track and we could create slices based on the transient and you know you could now just be able to come right over there and say you know just be able to play those so you know you could have this won't give you multiple outputs so if you want multiple outputs you could do that directly from groove agent very easily all right so we have question wavelab what is the best practice for building consistent volume across tracks for streaming uh various artist playlists so let's take a quick look at that and then we'll move on we had a bunch of questions that were sent in advance so if i have uh let's say in wavelab just do an empty project and let's say i wanted to we'll create a new audio montage okay so let's say if i wanted to all right so let's say if i have these all going on i wanted them to be consistent volume in wavelab all i'd have to do is to just kind of come over here let's get to so let me just it might be under process but you can basically just kind of do a um where it's basically working as uh like you could do a loudness meta-normalizing so i thought it was under process okay so yeah just go to process to meta-normalize and you could say you know to a specific db level or you could say you know match the active clip so let's say this is the clip that you want everything to be matched to so i have that selected then we go to meta normalizer so we can match the volume of the active clip and just kind of come there and that will even out the levels for you automatically okay so we had a whole bunch of questions that were sent in so let's go ahead through some of those okay thanks for all the wonderful questions if you learned something new make sure you hit the like button and subscribe to the channel okay okay some of these we've gone through already okay so it says i had a question why you removed the pause function when you press the play button in cubase 10.5 it was possible to pause when you press the play button and have the return function when you press stop i use this function a lot when in the editor and correct errors i've made when i was playing my brother in stockholm is also missing this function how can you fix this um so when i took a look at this this was seemed to be like the same behavior i'll just exit out of this um so let's say if we're in cubase so according to this it's uh uh it's possible to pause when you press the play button and have the return function you press stop so let's say if we're in 11 i hit play again nothing so if i stop we could have that function all right now i'm going to open up 10.5 so i will just come over here and i believe this functions the same way when i tested it earlier so hitting the play button just plays in my system it doesn't pause okay so now we're in 10.5 so now when i hit play it doesn't pause it only kind of stops you know so the behavior is kind of the same so it's to me it's not pausing hitting play again i wasn't aware of that function but it doesn't seem to be working in 10-5 and seems consistent in version 11 as well so let me know if i'm doing something wrong uh and i'd be happy to kind of investigate it further that's from magnus and sweden okay so we had a question i believe this is from pablo that he had emailed um so let's jump back to version 11. okay and i think i had some a project here so uh can i remove the bleed from the metronome of a take with spectral layers one um so i don't you might be able to kind of manually do it so let's say if we have a vocal file here i will just make sure that this is so let's say so it's like we have a little bit of a click track bleeding through so with spectral layers one we can come over here and let's say if i do my extensions and you could manually remove it so but so i'm going to go to my audio menu to extensions and we'll go to spectral layers so a lot of times when you have you know your different components here so let's say we have our vocal that we see what dimension am i in so you may notice that as we kind of dig into different components um that you could kind of see these patterns now if you have the full spectral layers um so you you could probably just kind of go in and zoom in and find you know where these are going on but if if you had the full version what you could do is actually just select with like a rectangle and say you know these are my clicks and what you want to do is select those and with the full version what's really great is you go to the process and you can say register the noise and now at this point we could say let's do noise reduction so let's say i'll just come right over here and as we listen to it we could just minimize that again and let's do like a second pass at it and you could just kind of get rid of so if you really wanted to kind of go in but with speculators one you'd have to kind of manually go in and do it but if you had like little sections where the click was very apparent you could you could do that pretty easily but maybe if you have a lot of harmonic content being able to register the click as a noise hang on just one second my son's knocking on door okay i'm back all right and we also had a question uh about utilizing vca faders if i create several vcas and then delete some can i change the order number so i think that let's say if here we have a number of vca tracks um so i will come over here and say we go to the mix console we have our vca tracks so let's say if i remove three i think that the others the order will be preserved when we remove the selected tracks so i think that the numbers won't reset but that you could probably rename it here so if you want to say vca3 but i believe that the order is still kind of based upon the link but if we wanted to do this over here we might be able to if we edit the link group settings and maybe don't use vca let's see what happens there so it looks like the number is still preserved after uh after that if we just still have tracks being routed out to it uh question can i lock the volume of a channel so there isn't necessarily a lock function yeah there's a lot of things like if you accidentally move the fader uh you could hit alt z or option z and that is your undo history on your mix console you know if it is set to automation you know you can if automation is written directly on that particular track and then as soon as you jump back you know it will go back directly to that automation point but i don't know of a way to just put a lock on a fader and probably if we did that people would be unhappy all right i know we had some discussion on the uh fluid pitch plug-in with mpe so i've been in i've started the discussion with them so hopefully maybe by friday we could get some more information about the crash report so you know it's so we'll see if we get some more information on that going so we had a question kind of sent in um so and kind of a further discussion about triggering like a groove agent pattern uh i think the pattern kind of in question might have been uh when we you know uh so it says uh i use the first pattern in a west coast love prime cuts agent it is only possible to record this when cubase is in play or record mode i recorded this with m recorder from melda audio as an audio but not midi uh i only at the end i want to play the full pattern i just want to restart the beat over and over and over again uh be very useful if we could record this as midi so um you know and there's different pattern functions so i thought that we kind of went over this but so but one of the if we click here to once we're in the pattern edit mode you know that we touched on this a little bit last time but you could switch to trigger mode not based on measure or beat but immediately so as soon as i want to you know come here let's say i'll just trigger this you know as midi information so say i'll just come over here and i'll record you know if you just record like so you can let the pattern play all the way through but as soon as you you know but as soon as you actually just trigger the midi you know you could have it not wait to the next beat or net wait to the next measure to trigger but you could come here and just have it trigger immediately so as it's playing and then you let it play once at the end you know so that way the pattern will trigger immediately so if you want to access those settings to see if that helps uh just kind of let me know i didn't get a chance to listen to the mp3 file that you attached okay uh so i just see the colors in very audio seem to have changed i'm using the colors from the chord track how do i revert back to the red blue green i don't recall changing the color settings and the reset colors to default um so i think i went back to you know the same projects in groov age in 10.5 and 11 to see if there's any changes and there doesn't seem to be any changes with kind of very audio coloring so like let's say if i jump to this particular project okay so just get this project open thanks for all the wonderful questions from everyone all right so as soon as i come here you know i have kind of the green red and blue colors so you know these colors are the same as my other uh if i looked at this in cubase 10 so i'll just come back to 10.5 and let's say we look at my very audio colors here that these will be identical colors so we you know so i don't think that those colors have changed and it looks like they're kind of the same as to the screenshot that you had sent me as well okay so we had a question going back to uh groove agent kits and how to load them up easily so after kind of making a custom groove agent kit so we could kind of start this from scratch um so you know if we have you know different groove agent kits let me see if i had this you know so i'll go ahead and clear this kit all right and i'll just go ahead and take a couple of and let's say snare again let's say clap okay so if i come here we have our different samples i will replace the i'm just going to balance selection quickly on these okay so let's say i have my kick so i'm going to drag this directly to an instrument pad so let's say okay and let's take my snare here okay so i'm going to like right click here and let's say export kit with samples i'm going to put it to desktop i'm going to call it december 8th okay so and we could just come here we'll say okay so and i'll just put it into downloads let's just call it december 7th okay and now so you say that to desktop i will you know so it's not going to show up you know so when browsing for these you know what you have to it's not going to show up in kind of the normal commercial kits you'll have to kind of pop over here to you know user presets so you know once you kind of have you know this particular thing done we could say i want to go to uh instrument sets so say you know you could do like here's one i did earlier december 7th and just drag that directly to you know that preset you could just drag it directly to the kits over like that and you could have kind of different kits and to update it all you have to do is you know just come here and if you've added samples is just come over here and you could rename the kit or you know re you know and just choose to export again with a different name but you could see kind of different kits will show up directly here in your users i know it won't show up like a commercial kit will show up here with all the metadata you know but it's not going to show up there unfortunately all right so we had a question from liam rose who had kind of a complex setup uh for his stems and when he was doing his uh cubase 11 when he's doing his q export um so um so just kind of for to save time so it says master group sends enabled with uh without fail there's cubase 11 crashes saying a serious error occurred uh so he has a pretty complex template that he has kind of gone through uh and explained like groups going to groups going to groups etc so i would you know it sounds like maybe there's a configuration error i will email you um as well but i just wanted to you know to see if you could maybe build your project send it to one group you know build a test project and see if it behaves the same or if it's just kind of particular to your template and some routing that you have in your template that might be hanging it up liam so um but i'll try to reach out to you as well okay um so it says um thanks for watching so decent respectful so um so another so we had a question if we could see kind of metered input on a particular input channel so we just kind of had you know if we're asked if we have like this track and we have a um let's set our input here to this track that uh so it was uh johnny wanted the ability to be able to see the input metering without the track record enabled uh like he could do in other programs so you know you could see it obviously in the mix console uh without that but you know within the tracks if it's not metered you know so if we see our audio o8 track here we see the metering in the mixer but we don't see it to the right here um i can see where that could be confusing um either way but i can see where um i will pass that along uh as an option to you know maybe see if that's available so that the behavior is consistent between the mixer and the channel uh regardless of it being recorded in ebold and i think he also had a question from the last hangout which i may have misunderstood about stacking and how to maybe comp tracks with in different lanes when not in cycle mode so let's say if i just have multiple recordings here i'll disable cycle mode so let's say i just have different recordings so just come here all right so say i now come back and if we just do a recording kind of over top of it it doesn't have to be in cycle so and you just figure out how to do a comp and show in different lines so say we'll just do this a couple more times okay so even though they weren't captured in cycle mode uh we could now just kind of come right over here and see each recording as its own separate pass where we could make your comp so you don't have to be in cycle mode to do that you can create your comp track just kind of that easily okay going through some more of the questions sent in um so it says i'm having an issue between my launch key mini and cubase 10.5.2 on the pc running win 10. uh we know when opening up a session with the launch key plugged in cubase will start loading then when it gets to mackie huey it gets hung up the only way i'm able to get cubase open is to unplug the launch key force quit and task cubase and restart then i plug in the launch key and it will see it again when i first got the launch key everything worked perfectly there was a big win 10 update last month and that's when the problem started i'm not sure what's happening uh this can't be how it normally functions right so you know if it's you know if that is not kind of copacetic or is not working well with your windows 10 update what i would do is start the program without it connected go to your studio setup and where you have your mackie control um i would try to just simply choose a different midi port here or just you know choose to remove uh the particular mackie control and or you know try to reset this and set a different uh communication or just remove the mackie control start it with it and then uh restart so and that way that should clear the you know the communication with the launch key which could be causing problems and your system okay and then we also had a kind of a question about um pad shop 2 factory content so when we uh come over here to the media bay you know a lot of times you know people are saying we got a question uh ipad shop two factory content installed and registered they show up in the right media rack in cubase 11 but will not play or load so you could be going to loops and samples and seeing uh pad shop 2 show up here so depending on your system so if you see you know like here i see my loop mesh but these are the samples that were were used in loop mash and not the actual presets so try going to the vst instruments and and go to pad shop here and then see load up the various instruments directly from here and not so make sure you're loading starting off from the vst instruments and not audio so we also had a question on if there's a way to determine differences between like an mp3 and a flac file so let me come over here and if there's a way in cubase to um it was kind of more of a research if uh if they could open up kind of two different uh files that were compressed to just kind of see exactly what was going on and they were wondering if the if spectral layers could be able to determine between like the differences between files and there's actually kind of a function in wavelab for this so let's say if we wanted to go to um let me just do this quickly here if we run out of time um i think i may have saved it to desktop but what you can do is let me just see if this is i thought i'd put it on my desktop but what all you'd you know in wave lab if you have two different audio files open um let me just see if they're in maybe under downloads quickly but there is a file comparator option so as soon as you let's say if i open up i'll do just recent files so what you could do is just kind of come over here and there is an audio file comparator function where you could select two different files and they will automatically generate a delta file which is the difference between them so if you're kind of looking to see like the difference between flac and mp3 files load both of them up into wavelab and go under analyze to the audio file comparator take both files and then you could generate a delta file that's the difference between both of those particular files all right so we're just about out of time we're going to lose our free uh we're going to lose our free capability of getting our captioning for people uh want to thank everyone for wonderful questions um i'll try to have a new midi controller for the next hangout so it doesn't mess up my computer as much um seems like everything's working once i kind of disconnected that so i apologize for that but we will start friday at 1pm us eastern and mail any questions to club cubase at steinberg.de and we will see you guys on friday take care
