well good evening once again everybody the first of ten events as always it's the 100 meters one particular athlete to watch out for here Nicolas Crowell towel I should say it's Weibo he'll be second from the outside the Estonian Nicholas Cao the newly crowned European under-23 champion as we look at Eglin of Estonia he was fourth or two years ago Cowell I think he'll be fourth from the left and he was so good in the European under-23 I think he could be a factor today in tomorrow well he comes in with a personal best of 85 72 they're sure ring up but cow is the future of German multi events he's really living up to the reputation that he got the winning all those under 18 under 23 world titles Brown in two Novak in three European and world junior bronze medalist shukran off the authorized neutral athlete european silver last year it's fairly relaxed and poised and ready nice way for the crowd slowly filling up yeah egg laying injuries last year he is absolutely pumped now the newly crowned European under-23 champion what a fabulous performance in Gail for that title Thomas vanderplatt s'en European champion in 2016 how well he's battled back from testicular cancer a man of immense character on and off the track Marcel Weibo husband of Shawn a Miller we both world indoor bronze last year 13 gots this 8:35 three always there or there abouts and K Sookie Oshiro looking cooling the shades multiple Asian champion flag bearer the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympic Games so the first event getting things going here in the stadium Brown in to Novak three shukran off in for Elaine Estonia five Cal this talented young German in six vanderplatt sauna Belgium seven we bow of Estonia in eight Russia hero of Japan in Lane nine the beginning of a two-day marathon for the he men of world athletics so Brown on the far side has got the quickest season's best cow let's go a little bit to do here fairly even that's a lien coming through there 10.95 ducking inside 11 seconds that is a really really good performance avoid claim he has never run inside 11 seconds before shukran off came through for second massive the season's best for him what a way to start well that's exactly how you want to start a decathlon these athletes are all battling those times in their personal bests outstanding times for those first four athletes Novak just a little off of his personal best no he actually ties his personal best but that just goes to show you that this track is fast we saw it in the open hundred meters we saw it in the open 200 meters it is definitely going to benefit these decathletes watch the next two heats it's just going to get faster and faster there we get a look at the start and good start and you don't always get a first start from decathletes but Oh Blaine in the middle good arm action he does a really good job of relaxing those hands and a nice lean at the end these athletes always look to the left because that's where the clock is you say there Nicholas cow in the middle in the German uniform that's weebo closest to us but it was all Oakland in Lane five big strong men these guys are and a great start in heat one 874 points what a beginning from Oy Clank injured last year former European under 23 bronze medalist he was delighted with that one shukran of 1102 weebo 1110 a whole host of seasons bests and the Estonian coaches in the crowd absolutely delighted with that a long two days still to go but the perfect start for Elaine of Estonia a personal best inside 11 seconds for the first time so 1094 from Oakland what will we see from these guys well we have three in this field or five in fact I beg your pardon C brilliant five in this one we've gone inside eleven seconds this year and amongst those to watch will be the very fast American Devin Williams who was tenth two years ago u.s. collegiate champion a couple of years ago his sister Kendall will be in the heptathlon I can't think of too many occasions where we've had siblings going in the same combined World Championships no that's a new one for me as well but they are outstanding athletes they both train at the University of Georgia where they attended college under the tutelage of Petro skip Brianna when he coaches a number of multi event athletes may sell weibo being one of them but he's got a great program there in Georgia and known for the multi events but devin williams and as good of hundred-meter man as he is one of his best accomplishments is he beat grant Holloway at the SEC Championships in the 110 meter hurdles so he is an outstanding hurdler we'll talk about that more tomorrow Wow Ron Holloway will be going into semi finals at 110 later on this evening have I select six times a national champion for Poland 1076 his season's best he's one of the quickest in this field Martin Rowe Norwegian national record holder he was sixth in the Europeans last year as me wrecked the German fourth in the Olympic Games three years ago got a bronze in London eight thousand four hundred and forty four points when he finished eighth in goss's and devin williams 10.65 his pv how close can you get to that on this track very minor lane in the previous smashed his peepee that's Hill rollin National Indoor champion he was second in the Ratigan to Captain Frederick Samuelsson European under-23 silver medalist a couple of years ago always distinctive with his headband makes it easier for us commentators the Charlie shook European bronze last year he's another one of the some 11 second performers in this heat and Johnny Johnny Miller the Venezuelan South American champion really quick TV on the outside ten point six six so this could be very very fast we know this mando WS track is quick an Oak Lane from Lane five in the first of these decathlon heats took full advantage so watch for Kazmir wrecking for Williams outside him in five the American news casma rec and on the near side Jeremy lo of Venezuela can he get near to his PB of ten point six six high-quality sprinters in this second heat of the men's decathlon 100 meters thankfully it is a clean start Williams going well cats correct now beginning to come into his running and vice here lek on the far side by select takes it good dip on the line from kasparek ten point seven seven he's only a couple of hundreds of a second outside his PB and he beats some quicker men in that one a great start from vasilich Williams got out the blocks well for America and over in Lane to the pole did the damage in the second 50 good running from the first three or four and how about that John O'Brien four men listed inside ten point nine what we're talking about how fast this track is why select he got a good start I kept waiting for Williams to find that extra gear and he never quite did but an outstanding run for Kaz American this is where it's all about attitude when you cross that line in the hundred meters you're either happy or you're sad and it can really affect the rest of your decathlon there you see these guys big strong guys big stroking strides out of the blocks you don't want to be quick you want to be powerful have that stride down behind you look like Devin Williams was just going to go to another gear here but it almost seemed like he had to back off a little bit Kazmir ik and vise elec on the inside nice dip getting all of the time and the points that you can there on the inside well Vashi elect liked it 915 points for him as it could start by Williams in the center there and he got a little bit tight Jeremy Lowe came through for fourth nice tip on the line from Kazmir coming home a couple of hundreds ahead of Devin Williams which gives him four more points and every point could be vital come the end of tomorrow night when the big guys the lumber their way round the 3 and a three-quarter laps of the track a valve I select leads a very high-quality second heat of the men's decathlon the first six ducting inside 11 seconds 915 points for the poll one man in the first heat inside 11 seconds six in the second heat and Damian Warner on paper is the fastest to kathleen in history over 100 meters that's Lyndon Victor Commonwealth champion after Warner had a no height in the pole vault an American silver behind his great america's rival warner and victor pierce Lapage the absolutely gigantic canadian goes in this one along with kevin mayor of course the world record holder and the defending champion quick notes in an update from an American and a British perspective Timothy Duckworth apparently he is injured he was supposed to be going in lane four I say American and British because he is American and has two British parents therefore he has opted to compete for Great Britain and that is a real shame for the 2018 US collegiate champion his competition is over before it's begun [Music] okay Dan what performance from Warner would indicate that it's game time here do we need to see a replication of his ten one two from God sis or or would we and should we be impressed with a ten for well I think ten four is a little bit slower than he wants to run but if he can run in the low ten 30s even the high ten 20s I think that gives him the really the good starts that he wants and there you get a chance to see Lyndon Victor he's got a nice seasonal best and personal bests the really rangy guy big fella we'll see him do really well in the shop foot and a very good javelin when he finished second to Warner in godsey's cédric jubler Commonwealth bronze medalist 1063 at his best we've got really quick men in here and what about this giant the pan-american bronze Commonwealth silver medalist he's a huge operator 1031 at his best brand 1031 at the Decca starmie in kelan's France where I ended up breaking the world record years ago there's Solomon Simmons but Pearce Lapage is gonna be somebody we're gonna keep an eye on not just during this meet but next year as well okay he's the defending champion he's the world-record holder he has shown patches of brilliance this season but he is yet to complete at a Catalan in 2019 Harrison Williams on the outside there are always question marks over the body of Kevin Maia he's a son of Dean Macy s character the British decathlete who got two world medals in 99 and oh one he's always on the verge of either falling apart or total brilliance well when you break the world record you call yourself the world's greatest athlete you know we shouldn't doubt him however he just played the Decca star meet one event at a time and he ended up not finishing there but you do have question marks when you don't see somebody finish a fall decathlon before the world championships warner the canadian goes in lane two they are the favorite second from the left hand side the frenchman the world record holder the defending champion who strikes the first psychological blow in this two-day journey of brilliance over ten events while Lyndon Vince has got a great start knees put Damien Warner under a little bit of pressure they are going well on this side and now the big tall loafing figure appears Lapage coming through Warner takes it ten point three six Pierce Lapage came through brilliantly well when you're six four eight and a half it only takes about four and a half strides to get down the home straight Warner had a little bit of pressure put on his shoulders there by Lyndon Victor who got out better maiya came through for 10.5 I think psychologically that's an honours even between the two favorites well absolutely Maher has to be pleased with that 10:50 that's a seasonal best for him and an overall personal best but I think Warner is a little disappointed because he just didn't get a very good start he ran a good race and he ran a good time but if he could go back he would love to run that race again because his start was not that not that dynamic there you see him closest to us boom he gets stuck leaning back on the start there I think he flinched a little bit and thought they might call it back but Lyndon Victor and his strides pulled away Damian Warner had to work to catch him so already Damian Warner under the gun just a little bit I think we would have seen a 1029 had he got the start that he really wanted does that put you under pressure psychologically when the man outside you is already ahead within two paces well absolutely and you don't hear the second gun go off because you could see him flinch a little he'd might have thought you know they're gonna call this back but you got to run the race look at he knows he knows he made a mistake there little flinch and Kevin Meier got a fantastic start on the other side and I think his good start really led to Peirce Lapage running as well as he did look at the big man there in the middle of the track in lane six he's all arms and legs but he was working them perfectly in unison [Music] well decathletes always love it when there's a point score of a thousand or more for one event Warner and Lapage are into four figures courtesy of their - excellent times the bear in mind Warner has run ten one two in a decathlon this year I think he'll be a little disappointed with that mayor perfect start from the defending champion PB ten fifty nine hundred and seventy five points so this is how it looks overall Damien Warner will be on top we would have expected that the Pasha's three points a trip 36 points further back is Kevin Maia a PB in the opening event Lyndon Victor the Commonwealth champion in fourth vasilich he ran really well in the second of the heats taking it from Lane 2 as well this is Samuelsson getting ready for the opening salvo in the long jump we don't hang around with this Decathlon competition [Applause] Samuelsson [Applause] Phoebe of 781 this season he's gone 766 indoors [Applause] well that's an outstanding distance these athletes so they're under a very rigorous schedule you get a half an hour between events the completion from one event he's over seven meters cleanly they're good completion from one event to the start of the next and I guarantee him and look at tonight's schedule they are going to keep them on a very tight schedule to get three jumps here and then they'll move over to the shop book but that is a good start for Samuelsson nice foot placement his coach will say let's move up an inch or two not change the run at all just be a little taller at takeoff work to the landing Samuelson in 18th position after the first event Duckworth we know doesn't start in this one and we also have another non-starter Bassel rolling in the Frenchman after seeing it come up on our screen here in the commentary position so we've lost a couple but here's a Frenchman who's definitely competing Kevin man a new lifetime best in the 100 meters 10.50 line third overall after event one behind the two Canadians Damien Warner and the Giant Pearce Lapage you came home just one hundredths of a second behind his countryman he had a big long jump when he broke that world record until aunts France last year clear into the seven 80s but he's only gone 755 this year big long running strokes nice finish he does a really good job of keeping his legs up absolutely as long as possible there you see him with the red bib that means he is the defending world champion well mayor jump 750 in what we call the triathlon just three events happening during the Paris Diamond League for the multi event athletes today hurdles a long jump on a shotput 743 that's a good start to this second event he knows he's got bigger in the locker but it's a solid start here's the Posche he is a giant of a man and here he is going in the long jump all six foot eight and a half of him brilliant time at 1036 in the hundred what can he do here well he's so deliberate on his lonely Simon executes great speed in the hundred meters he ran in the ten threes and he's out by the eight meter mark that would be a huge jump for him take the overall lead in this particular event got the right knee wrapped up but he does a great job of getting off the board tall guys have a hard time getting height nice job there getting his foot on the board good finish till it's hard to unwind that tall body and reach for your feet may elites at the moment with that 743 that was excellent from the canadian giants and was lying in second place after the 100 meters just behind his teammate Damien Warner just waiting for that to come up 779 for the second event in a row he's over a thousand points that's a thousand and seven what a good performance by the Canadian and we're back to the top of the order here in the decathlon long jump this is Samuelson he opened up with 708 looking at the wind readings this controlled environment here at Khalifa stadium no wind against no wind helping and I say the first jump for all of these guys is a safe velar jump that's a little better for him 708 on his first attempt he needs to improve on that but looking down the list scre Reina Gerena excuse me he had a foul and Dameon order had a foul but everybody else recorded first attempt first attempt marks [Applause] waiting to see whether there's any improvement yep every point counts he'll take that an extra three centimeters Sweden have taken a gold and a silver so far Daniel star in the men's discus and mondo Duplantis a silver in the pole vault I think their only other pole vault medal was Patrick Kristensen Karolina cous husband when he got a bronze back in Paris in 2003 in the pole vault right Kevin Maher 1050 lifetime best in the hundred 743 really good solid opener in the long jump capable of more can he produce it now well France waited a long time to get a world record holder in the decathlon they loved the event they've had great athletes in the past the lane Blondell was one of those guys always a factor at the World Championships Christian plazi odd and then Kevin Mayer comes along boom and that's a good jump 743 on a first attempt he'll want to improve on that comes along and breaks that world record I've competed in France a couple of times and those fans are just fanatical about the multi events so to get the king of sports in your own country really means a lot seems a charismatic man as well yeah well just like Samuelson he's added three centimeters he doesn't look overly happy but if he doesn't get better than that at least it's another solid event now shook off in the decathlon long jump well great setting for these decathletes over there on the far side and that's a good jump looks like that's going to be well over 750 he wants more out of that but nice setting and I mean it's the fans are able to get right on top of this jump your family friends whoever came to watch you can just be right up next to that wall look at that technique nice shoot of the legs he's got his step right exactly where he wants to be doesn't certainly want to be much closer than that otherwise your fear a foul but very consistent run but he knows he's got more in there 761 after a foul so that's a good start for him he would have loved to have start with 761 and work from there up we'll see him and prove that on his third attempt [Applause] this is Peter Braun from the Netherlands [Music] he's over 740 let's see Peter Brown opened up with 727 that was his second attempt love the reader boards you get a chance to see what these guys jump to ride away and again these guys are not having trouble hitting the board we talked a little bit about the open long Jeff how much trouble those guys had all over in the qualifying but LePage 779 continues to lead the group Mayer 746 he'll look to improve on this third attempt third attempts coming up shortly and that was 747 for Peter Braun this is Linden Victor he's over in Group B he's had a couple of good jumps to start this start this competition 741 744 see if he can stretch it out over 744 big guy he's an outstanding shot footer excellent discus thrower nice javelin thrower they go head and throw the javelin in Grenada both he and his he and his brother are outstanding javelin throwers there you see hardly any room to spare and that size-14 comes down in the white but he's trying to improve on 7:44 Lynden Victor has put a solid card together here as Dan was saying he has an absolutely massive javelin now Damien Warner second round no junk in the first this needs to register or he will be under enormous pressure it doesn't need to be huge he just needs to get one in well and that was a really nice safe jump for Damien Warner and you can see him he's holding back on the runway this is the fastest runner in the field and as he comes down the runway lots of control he took off made sure he took off with plenty of room to spare but while he's in the air he's looking down he keeps his head and chest up he's certain to get 3040 more centimetres out of that that was solid from Warner now Kevin Mayer 743 in the first round 746 in the second so he added another three centimeters worth of points to his tally any improvement here with his last effort he can afford to really unleash a big one here well it looks they're all there abouts a little clench and a fist he liked that one damn well he has gone 780 before but he's been a little flat all day long you see he's not getting quite the lift off the board that he certainly would like his run is very direct and he's not setting that jump up very good with his penultimate step which would give him a little bit more height be able to use his speed coming off the board there but that is an improvement 756 he would have loved something into seven 70s put in will be a little bit more on world-record pace but soon as he runs a peepee in the leaders everybody starts talking world-record Lapage third round 779 764 he is an absolute beast when he gets him full flow 1036 in the hundred and he started really nicely here the Canadian he'd love to put his teammate in good friend Damien Warner under pressure as well as Kevin Mayer is he at six foot eight and a half is he almost too big for some of the events I would say so if he was not a good pole vaulter but he is an outstanding pole vaulter and his length helps him in all three of the throws shot put discus javelin you know if there's one event that probably it's a hindrance it's the hurdles because he gets too close in between the hurdles with that super long stride but you know you want a big long-range e decathlete like that Damien walnut has got the safe one on the board at 7:41 they're going back to pierce Lapage just for a minute so consistent every one of those runs down the runway looked the same that is a coach's dream 779 764 775 he'll finish with that 779 score but you love the consistency especially in a championship setting like this that shows more that shows more consistency than the veteran here Damian Warner it's been a good season for Warner another gox's title 8711 points took the national canadian title over 110 hurdles for 13.53 and beat linden victor banannie relegated to second place in got seized with a similarly commanding performance for his second Pan Am title in Lima late July early August it's been a good season so far that this is where he wants to produce his very very best and he'll need you to put Maher under control under problems all that looked close when he hit the board I thought oh no that's a foul he really brought the speed I wondered if he was going to open up his stride down the hundred meters and really give it just barely any room to sport spare six point two centimeters trying to improve on 741 and that is an improvement 26 centimeter improvement he certainly has joke farther but he needs to stay in touch he needs to jump well he needs to continue to outdo Kevin Mayer in the events that he is able to do that it's going to be the 400 meters it's going to be the hurdles he needs to jump farther here in the long jump Lyndon Victor third round looking for a marginal improvement might have got there Victor [Applause] 7:41 in the first round 7:44 in the second we've just seen Warner go out to over 760 and Victor has put the Canadian under a little bit of pressure a couple of times this season you won't see better on the ball than that from the granadan but you talk about size and how that can be an hindrance you know Lyndon Victor is a big guy not quite as tall as Pierce LePage but you've neat you need to be tall and flexible and Lyndon is tall and tight in a couple of the events and you'll see that he's just a little bit awkward as a big guy so if he could loosen up a little bit certainly improve his feet as a fast guy but I'd like to see him run a little bit faster in the 400-meter just waiting for that to come through I think he liked it 741 744 7:51 another improvement from linden Victor and he is pumped after two events excellent stuff early on from the big men more from the decathlon very soon this is Damian Horner in the shot foot first attempt for Damian Warner the markers are out there at 14 and 15 meters respectively he's inside that 14 meter mark and just to clarify Dan the posh led after the hundred and the long jump Warner was second in nineteen hundred and eighty eight points Mayer third [Applause] 1366 they're from Warner now mayor 10.50 in the hundred for a pb-7 meters 56 in the long jump he's an outstanding shop winner you take a look at the season best 1620 and 1651 Babak puts him 2nd ranked in this whole entire group but good power nice and quick those are 14 and 16 meter lines and he's just inside that 16 meter line he's been over the 16 meters a number of different times in decathlon looks like that shocked the ball fell down into his neck just a little bit he had the line drive it ticket his figured out on the second and the third attempt it generates an incredible amount of power not a particularly tall guy but uses his legs very very well solid so far you would say from there two out of ten done shukran off he was lying in sixth after the first two 1102 in 107 61 in the law [Applause] we take a look at the slow motion and doesn't look bad but athletes know when they make a good connection on the ball or not he's leaning forward doesn't like his posture posture so important 14 48 that's a good start he can work from there [Applause] [Music] and here's the big man Lyndon Victor he is an outstanding shop footer this is his second attempt nice non reversed action on the end they're just plants his feet looks for a good base and really fires his hips around 1496 on his first attempt it was way low for him he's definitely a 16 meter plus thrower and he likes it 1624 a really solid throw for him where you see a number of these athletes are just getting manageable throws in on the first one that was not a very far throw for Lyndon Victor 1496 on his first but thin but he knows he has points he knows he has money in the right insight there from John O'Brien who will be an interested spectator up here in the commentary box for Salomon Simmons second attempt he's got to make this stick or he'll be in for a Last Chance Saloon well this is a big guy who I think just should be exploding in the decathlon scene he just hasn't figured it all out you quite yet but just a specimen of an athlete certainly but a foul on his first throw let's see what he can manage on a second you saw it the ball land there in between the 14 and the 16 meter line love to see him blast one of these over the 16 meter line he certainly has the capabilities but this guy is built like a tight end in the NFL so big and strong but an outstanding javelin thrower a good hurdler struggles a little bit in the next event the high jump and here we go back to our leader Kevin Mayer 17:08 this season down at his best wolf there is a good there's a good one and there's the emotion there's the excitement that you see with Kevin Maher when things are going well he just signaled to his coach he might not need to take another one that sailed over the 16 meter line you know what he might have chairs in his eyes there you know that is how much he is motivated to try and defend this title 1682 it's close to his lifetime best when you add that to the ten point five in a hundred to seven point there's seven meter fifty six long jump he is really in the groove here and the emotion I'm not sure I can remember a decathlete in tears after three events he is absolutely fired up for this well I love his emotional level right now the difficult thing that he capital on is how do you get emotional how do you come down from that he's able to regulate that and that's what the best guys can do is turn it on turn it off and get your rest but great reaction he knew it was big athletes always know as a big yell big throw they connect really really well and this is what it was like for him when he broke the world record in tillens France just so much emotion event after event just so excited that he's in the groove now I think we can start talking about world-record pace [Music] Wow great insight there from someone who knows what it takes to lift this title and break a world record Johnny yah demillo of Venezuela 1088 in 100 just under 7 and a half meters in the long jump erm illo has thrown over 16 meters in his lifetime 1597 as a personal there's seasonal best this year he comes up short of the 16 meter line another picked another big guy but this guy can run the 400 it's very interesting he weighs probably you know I'm gonna say 205 pounds I'm not sure how many stone that is he's a big boy yes he's a good athlete as well South American champion just off the podium in the Pan Am's a shake of the head there it's not quite as good as his first round effort but he's got another additional one more to come and we're back over to Damien Warner for a third attempt Warners trying to improve on 1366 opened up with that throw then had a foul on his second throw you see he's just not super comfortable in his power position really puts that left leg in the bucket but that will certainly be an improvement on 1366 he gets behind the shot put it pretty well but you see where does the shot put come off of his fingers is it blasting off his fingers or is it coming off of his hand and that's an improvement for Damien Warner 1497 he says it's alright just alright that's within 40 centimeters of his lifetime best but it's Mayer who will have a psychological edge at the end of the shot foot competition Oakland big PB from him in the first heats in 100 meters third throw here the estonian has started his competition well 15 meters on his first attempt then he was 14 72 he's trying to improve on 15 meters flat and that looks like it is an improvement [Applause] and somewhere maybe not here in the arena but maybe back home a certain Turkey Newell might just be watching maybe inch Allen and his son by the ways on his way to becoming half decent told Walter so watch out for Newell junior when I claimed his countrymen doing well here herkie was an outstanding pole vaulter five meters 50 over 18 feet so there we go for olga lane 15 20 just 30 centimeters short of his personal best shukran off now almost dead level with the first and second round throws high silic and we bow in group b have gone over 15 meters any improvement for the authorized neutral athletes [Music] big shout from him in the circle but perhaps one more of frustration rather than celebration as he looks to edge towards vice Allah can we vote at 15 meters just a bit too much upper body you've got to lead with the lower there 14:47 and then 1448 he's trying to improve on that 1448 very consistent on those first couple of throws 1471 a small improvement he'll take it almost a personal best well there were cheers for Kevin Mayer in the shock book competition it's registering that as a decathlon PB he has thrown 1708 in a triathlon nonetheless phenomenal performance so two from vient Linden Victor Kiana Mello of Venezuela in third vise Alec rewarded with a lifetime best Nicolas Cal that brilliant youngster from Germany going well 11 men over 15 meters and just under 15 for Damien Warner the Canadian who would love to put Mayer under some pressure in this competition Kevin Mayer the defending champion the world record holder is in front tears of delight after the shot put he leads Damien Warner by just over 50 points Victor while he's used to seeing his name beneath Warner that happened in got sis and the Pan Am he's third overall in the giant Lapage is in fourth place still benefiting from that brilliant 1036 in the hundred so Viktor the granadan Commonwealth champion Warner the pan-american champion mayor the world champion and defending champion and world record holder the top three and Mayor clearly after the shotput the happier of the three men well I love these graphics they showing you know the effort and the size of the performance certainly yeah mayor definitely got more out of the shop put the need than the other two guys you see where Damian Warner is just a little bit weak but you know I just I want these guys to stay in the game stay focused I think we can see something really really special at a Kevin Mayer if he can just maintain this level of emotion well now over to the men's decathlon high jump give Chris a chance to get a drink of water that's this is yaro mellow in in group b that is his third miss third miss at his opening bar at 178 I don't have a clue what happened there we got a chance to see his third jump but you never want to get to a third attempt on your opening bar Damian woman well from the ease of it that looked like Damian Warner's opener 191 meter 90 nd exactly right he's over that on a first attempt that was my starting height 1 meter 90 there you go two greats 1 meter 90 is the place to be it's too easy self in other athletes have had a couple of attempts in the high jump Salomon Simmons Oakland Martin Road Norway Kevin Meyer has also cleared his first attempt of 187 and then passed at 190 some athletes standing by you can just about seeing the background as we keep an eye on the decathlon for a moment the women's 400 hurdles semis are on the way shortly but here is Salomon Simmons the big guy from Eastern Michigan now lives and trains in Atlanta this will be his first attempt at 1 meter 90 cent who hit the ball just fell off actually he comes from the left side I think high-jumping always looks a little odd I come from a right side I coach a lot of kids that come from the right side as we see Vander Plaats in it was a pretty decent high jumper yeah you see certainly he's got a feel for getting over the bar and so much of that is body awareness you certainly have to jump high but when you can do the right things over the bar you can make the high jump that much easier on you Wow 199 is an extremely high opening bar here's weibo he is a good high jumper well as well we will see him jump to ten perhaps even even better and Pierce LePage is an outstanding high jumper as well he comes from the left side right knee taped up that's about as casual excuse me that's about as casual as it gets this is Damien Warner 193 first attempt just a brush like to see him get a little more aggressive I know these bars are low but you don't want to create bad habits here he could have cleared that by a mile but he's just conserving his energy but what happens when you get lazy and you bring that bar down then you're taking another jump completely and this is Linden Victor I like the pole vault this is an event that he is continually improving in he's training down in Santa Barbara now it talks a lot about the power being in his upper body doesn't he Linden Victor so here he is developing the high jump he's a capable of 209 which is the same mark that damien Warner has actually as a lifetime best and believe it or not Linden Victor has had trouble finding places to Train so he's down in Santa Barbara at Westmont College with jaws priester and Thomas Fitzsimmons and there's a Miss for our world-record holder Kevin Meyer yeah a failure at 193 at the first attempt Kevin Maher is a 210 jumper at his best the monitor number at leats have knocked the bar off at 193 Devon Meyer came in nice and early 187 and then he passed to 193 Cedric doober the Commonwealth Games bronze medalist to look to amuse but the bar stayed on I see a more important thing that's a clearance for him that's actually in the other tool that's at 2 meters and - so dubler they're leaning Poulet so 202 is a very respectable height he came in at 199 that's an extremely high starting height shukran off the authorized neutral athlete that stayed on as well at 202 he always seems like he's in distress through the whole decathlon up and down and doesn't feel like he's doing very well but it's putting together a pretty good score and 202 is going to give him some good points so five jumps total for him five jumps and four makes his Frederik Samuelson of Sweden I mean his attempt at 202 that's a good-looking jump got a spacing right and so much of the high jump is where is my takeoff step supposed to is it supposed to be there is it supposed to be over here finding your spacing and taking it up he seems like he's in a groove right now he just needs to stay there he could get another bar - Fredrik Samuelson has 208 jump to it his best he's in a stronger of these two pools it is a nice job of following his lead arm up he throws that left arm up and his body line just follows it completely sites of the Khalifa International Stadium here at the I double AF World Championships Doha 2019 wherever you're watching us around the world whatever time zone you're watching in you're very welcome some more thrilling action to come as we rejoin Solomon Simmons of the US this is the second attempt at 193 and the big man is over a little bit stiff in his in his backbend but a make is a make Spencer resists giver and Springer just I guess in in the way that's where a team come in isn't it and making sure that the focus remains on the track is us athletics world about medics leader as well with all the other stuff well absolutely and we talked about the absence of hussein bolt and who's gonna be really the face of athletics internationally and you know we've got so many stars and no elias said look i'm not hussein bolt I'm not gonna you know I'm not gonna take his place I'm Noah Lyles and right now when you look at the sport there's a number of stars and so I think though I think that void by Usain Bolt can be filled by it is my cell weebo a strong high jumper and proving it again [Applause] that's two meters and five over first time two jumps for him to makes 205 he has jumped to 13 this season [Music] shukran off gives it a rattle the authorized oops laughter he's saying stay there get off the bench at me he talks to his shock foot he talks to his long jump shoes he talks to the bar here he's very vocal young man well 205 sure except exocrine off goes clear as we pick up Damien Warner Damien Warner in Group B and that's a make it 196 came in at 190 got a mate came in up jumped at 193 gotta make in there is another make at 196 nice job love to see him just get bring a little bit more intensity this is the big man Linden Victor and he matches Damien Warner well Kevin made failed first time at 193 but did clear it at the second time of asking as we see Victor there his scorecard a clean card so far having come in at 190 Warner and Novak and Victor and brown and here is Kevin Mayer his first attempt at 196 well when he broke the world record he jumped 205 so he's definitely got a couple more bars in him we're just feeling towards his right hamstring now that was that catcher in the bar or was that feeling it for some other reason you know I'm really not sure athletes will grab their muscles in different ways and a coach will always be concerned and say did you just grab your hamstring as I go no just had an itch or something we'll see he could be cramping up out there as well that kind of looked like he did grab at it a little bit but that position in the air with your back bowed and your legs flex like that sometimes a hamstring can grab on you a little bit it was his right hamstring that not the bar off I think so maybe yeah let's let's hope anyway that that's the only reason he was clutching it you're right he's just saying it hit me right there [Music] so Samuelsson of Sweden there - OH - we'll just catch up with that situation a second off good future here in front of us isn't refreshing so we'll bring you up to date in a second this is vanderplatt Simoes a strong high jumper [Applause] let's go cycling yeah bender plants anon a third attempt at 2:05 he's over he he said his heart was pounding before that but then you see who's over 205 weebo stir stir a knob vanderplatt 'sin doodler Lapage the Posche on the other pit who limps out just a little bit don't like the sign of that No he just stepped away from the high jump he seemed to go across and make a sort of cross harm signal there 2:05 Lapage on day one over decathlon that is not the sign you want to be see he's obviously got taped up knee back we are with the world record holder third attempt for kevin meyer he needs this there we go he's playing with fire there he can definitely go two more bars here but you don't want to get hung up on a bargain normally clear there's the excitement there's the intensity he's got to take that intensity into a first attempt he'd mess around too much out there you he ended up coming a little bit short confirmation by the way that Pierce Lapage has retired for the high jump after his clearance at 2:05 this Carini off not to be too irate so we're starting to see we will start to see now the quality of some of these athletes come through and others start to struggle as that bar moves up towards 208 going towards the upper limits of a lot of these jumpers now and then let's see what's going on in Group B as well the bar continues to go up to there they're jumping at 199 has banned the Platinum need to Catalan they want group a at a high jump he sells over again seven a good high jump competition here is Thomas Vander Plaats on one of those were the best lifetime best in the field he is actually officially the best high jumper in this comp 217 his lifetime best well he's over 208 nice clearance here good action he was very active here's Weibo on the same bar and he's over [Applause] so some good high jump performances here from athletes it too awaits weebo if you haven't worked it out yet he is married to Sean a villa we vote well he's got two full-time jobs and ones being a decathlete and the other is being on the support staff of the greatest sprinter female sprinter in the world they shook him off again and this guy he just keeps me he just keeps making bars a couple of second attempts at 2:04 202 and 205 a third attempt to make at 208 and a third attempt make at 211 no excuse me that's it that's 208 they were showing me something different on my computer nice jump they're hammered the take-off took it up really stretched it up exciting stuff so this pool to lay is definitely starting to head towards some of these athletes lifetime bests we've seen vanderplatt soon go clear we're back in Pool B now with Victor he hasn't had a miss all day this is - OH - oh and he's over there as well coming together nicely Linden Victor $1.99 excuse me getting ahead of myself which up and around all over the place here aren't we the two multi events are going on we've got track action going on as well the high jump in two pools or swinging from one pool to the other but kicking out today as best we can all he clattered it that's Damian Warner with the short run nice and relaxed up there I'd like to see him get a little aggressive he'll get a little more aggressive with those arms but Damian Horner is over 199 he'll get a chance to attempt - OH - he hit the bar the way you want to hit the bar and that was on the way down and that bar is pretty friendly if you could do it that way so Michael we buy we just saw some Estonian support in the crowd he goes to 11 [Applause] well this is a third attempt at 212 so sure enough [Applause] it's been a character through this competition is me with talking to the implements and talking to the bars and he is absolutely delighted with that - 11 - 11 - third attempt makes you know we saw tomorrow the planners last night when a couple of third attempt makes those third attempt makes are very very exciting there goes Kevin Maher and Eve over as well and equally equally is delighted not sprinting off over the track wasting energy but he is very happy with that though he's over in Group B and that was a third attempt at 1 meter 99 there you see the number of guys who are over 199 no backs over bronze over there's Warner Kazmir Victor and now Myer and they will attempt to O 2 on the next bar on Kevin Maia there it was pointed to his left hamstring on the previous one he had no such problems with it this time did nearly burst a blood-vessel in celebrating that's the sort of passion we want to see here is my till we bow at 2 meters and 11 there he goes I believe that was 217 217 yep sure Shakira Shakira knob he retired to 14 excuse me to 14 he retired at this height so it only left it only left we bow as the individual jumper on pit a we're flitting between Group A and Group B here the bars at different heights we bow to 17 over the second time he's Lyndon Victor then as we switch back to the other group and that looks like a successful clearance at 202 for Lyndon Victor who joins Novak in being clear at that height you're absolutely right - OH - but look at that car look at that car all the way through absolutely perfect now this is 217 for weebo Wow and that's another good one [Applause] weebo is having some bhai jump competition his lifetime best is to 18 so he's closing in on that will you go for it yeah get the baja here he says well he'll attempt 2 metres 20 and that would be a personal best here's Damien Warner this is his third attempt at 2:02 come on Damien bring it and he's over - Oh chill while we see him some points racked up here the bar at 202 so Novak clear Kazmir clear Victor clear and now Warner also clear for athletes there Kevin mayor on 199 yet to get over - OH - there you go Demian used his speed and athleticism there he put the pedal down just a little bit but - misses for Meyer at 202 who would like to get this he's on world-record pace this would go a long way to keeping him on taste and a third attempt and he's out oh he grabbed his knee oh dear on that jump well let's see how he gets off the bed shall we because he's a it might just be frustration and end of day tiredness there's just about looks okay I think so yeah I was thinking he was gonna get off there like he had a wooden leg the way we saw him sort of clutched towards it but but those makes make every little a contain hurt just a little bit worse rather he grabs straight for it then I mean that's you wouldn't do that unless there was nothing there we both and that's 2:24 we bow and he'll finish with 2:17 just 1 centimeter below his all-time personal best well that's a great high jump competition for Michael we boat and currently stands at the top of the rankings overall in the competition not just in group a well ahead of the other pool which has the leading bar at the moment at 2 meters and 2 that will get him 963 points Michael we boat and not to be on that occasion the third time of asking at 220 but 217 was tiller season's best for in this year puts himself into good shape in the metal chase going forward looks pretty happy with his day's work so far well then there's this coach Petrovka praiano he's the head coach at the University of Georgia where we Bowl where the back worthy I jump with Damien Warner [Music] well that was a third attempt I believe at 205 and he'll be out of a competition he'll finish with two meters to nice run pretty good arms like to see him get back there to a little bit longer run be able to use his speed speed is essential to jump high and if you can convert that speed into vertical into your vertical takeoff it's really gonna give you an advantage this is Linden miksa and he's alive pictures here in the decathlon high jump he's the final athletes at the moment out on the apron in Group B Lyndon Victor 208 he and Kasmir ik both clear at the previous ayah [Applause] Lynden victor is clear 205 in fact 205 is clearer and he is the lighter this Kasmir ik in the background it was clear at 202 previously and the bar now up at 205 well that is the overall picture from the two pools merged together there and Lyndon Victor has performed pretty well he's got himself equal forth across the two pools despite being in the weaker pool effectively we both the top performer two meter 17 to get himself 963 points kevin mayor they're only the 13th best performer and just pulling up with what looked a little bit of a niggle at the end who will be off to ice that and to rest it up and to come back for tomorrow's five events which begin with the 110 meters hurdles about their back on the track so again done the five yeah we've got 400 to go so he hasn't got much time to get ice on that as he I'm writing off the evening before it's even got their foreheads gone not five Kevin Mayor the leader by only 11 points from Damien Warner and Lyndon Victor in third well I didn't think Lyndon I didn't think Lyndon Victor was going to move up that much but matters that is nice and close Kevin Maher definitely gave up just a little bit in that shot put to Lyndon Victor you see the difference in points there 36:21 36 1035 91 striking distance for both second and third place Damien Warner will run probably a better 400 meters than Kevin Myer so we have track action remaining three heats of the men's decathlon 400 meters Kevin Mayer Damien Warner will go in the last of those three heats seeded on time the first of those three coming up right now so from the outside we see Martin right of Norway he's the best of 49:19 Novack Germany Tim Novak there's sub 49 second runner Lazaro la was a a non-starter in Lane seventh Kelsey kyoshiro of Japan these athletes currently down the field Novak we just saw a moment ago in 13th position overall Rory in 16th position overall my cell Weibo is currently in fifth overall 400 meters not necessarily one of his strong points despite the fact he's married to argue to the world's greatest 400 meter runner Tomas vanderplatt soon had an excellent high jump he currently finds himself overall who lived himself up to 17th position secure any off who is going well in the overall competition at the authorized neutral athlete he is in sixth position in the overall standings and the second of the Estonian athletes in this field in the top ten in the overall standings Yannick Auckland so 400 meters decathlon heat one of three the fastest on paper in this heat is shukran off with forty seven eight so so when I go my slowly bow particularly will be looking to turning a strong 400 meter performer to given the deeds in fifth position overall and this would be one of his wicket events so make their way down the back no back one for me outside for Germany but out quickly right up on the shoulder of Martin right outside him we both got pretty steadily through the first 200 meters right on the inside of Guan a li other the Estonian athletes has come through to undertake a couple of that feats outside him but it's still Tim Novak of Germany who leads them into the straight forty eight nine right Oh granny of Estonia on the inside we boast that into power who passed a couple of runners towards the back of the field Novak tying right up and it will be a gloire from Sucre knee off who will take those first two positions we both finished strongly fir very close potentially third but possibly for forty nine point one five the winning time for a Ghanaian is Estonia well that's a big big personal best for him he got started well in the hundred meters as well recorded a personal best there but that's a TV and a seasonal best stir and yog 49/36 Tim Novak 4960 Novak was the winner of the Thorpe Cup last year USA versus Germany meet here competing in the senior event for the first time well Novak was running in quicksand by the end of it wasn't he having gone very very hard over the first 200 meters a hard 200 meters plus for other events coming to pay the price by the end but that lifetime best but Oakland eight but on the inside but Novak here coming into the straight was the leader and just watch him go backwards well this is such a difficult race when you run it just individually but all of a sudden you put it after four events that you did right before it this is where I stress the most it was those moments leading into the 400 meters even when I knew I was ready it still was very very difficult you just under so much pressure and so much strain you know you're gonna have to take your body into places you've never gone before so I feel for these guys I really do and Donna Braun has been there absolutely been there the pain of the 400 meters on the end of day one but I will say if you run a little faster it doesn't hurt as much to ask your views on the schedule we've mentioned it early what about the shin for the hundred ten hurdlers and sprinters having to come through two rounds but without a gap in between the session like you would normally come through for a morning session and then have a bit of a breather between sessions and have the evening session here although they've spaced out as much as they can this is we've you've been here eight hours we've been on air well the best part of seven hours rather but there's no snow session break between the two I like this better this is more like an invitational decathlon that you would go to guts us or or the deck of star meat and the break just I think makes your day longer you know I don't like a 12-hour day give me a seven or eight hour a day keep it moving I can get out of here I can get the bed I can sleep in a little bit and then and then start my day tomorrow conformation and that results in heat one of three then 855 points that's a lifetime best photo Kalani was worth 844 points first shukran off in second and Novak picked up 833 for his seasons best in third athletes on the track for the second of the hits reminder the protagonists in the overall standings going in the last of the heats only Linden Vic Toews in the bronze medal position finds himself in this heat third overall Simmons and brown Hill will be on the inside lands in this heat in 7th and 8th positions so although the top two positions Warner and Maya go in the final heat loser certainly those in middle contention will go in this second heat and Linden Viktor in 3rd position I'll be looking to make sure he ends the day in those medal positions Salomon Simmons 49:22 just outside his lifetime best with what he's produced so far this season certainly an intriguing heat coming up involving kevin mayer because we saw him clutch his knee at the end of the high jump so we'll get a pretty immediate indication of how fit he is going to be in the third of the heats so athletes getting themselves into position [Applause] grounded the Netherlands going through every part of his free race ritual Estonians still a couple I think from that exciting exhilarating eventful men's 110 meters holes final one by Brian Holloway of the u.s. there is Lyndon Victor thorn in Lane eight here topping the 400 to be running the outside without knowing what's happening but of course one thing about the decathlon is not so worried about other people necessarily at this stage of the competition you're running against the clock you really are and that's the one thing to keep in mind I'll tell you what I like what Lyndon Victor has done today we got a shot of him he's fifth in the world rankings but he's third today but he's just found a home in Santa Barbara training at Westmont College with Thomas Fitz Symons Josh priester there he's got a number of different people he's training with and believe it or not this guy this guy couldn't find a place to Train nobody would nobody would welcome him he can't get the job done in Grenada so he and his brother are now living in Santa Barbara and there's somebody who we are definitely gonna hear from tomorrow that's a Nicolas call he's a big thrower big discus big tall bald guy and absolutely a big javelin guy he didn't get the start he wanted today let's see if he can finish strong he's clear back in 12th position yeah exciting things from Nicolas call in the javelin potentially there's one or two people marking down the all-time Decathlon record in the javelin which we'll talk more about tomorrow which stands at 79 meters 80 and that are stood for about 27 years here is Lyndon Victor representing Grenada but as Dan O'Brien has told you us-based these days vasilich of Poland he goes in Lane seven Tim Duckworth of Great Britain it would have been in medal contention I'm sure unfortunately not able to start the competition with a minor injury said it was a tough decision as we CEO Romeo from Venezuela inside here is Nicolas port full ranked number eight overall now we see pizza crown of the Netherlands and finally Sullivan Simmons of the US on the inside well a great opportunity for all of these guys to improve their personal best good track great situation it is late at night almost 11:30 at night here in Doha but the athlete with the best 400 meter seed time coming in is yaara milho from Venezuela this guy isn't big but he can run the 400 meters he 2 of 3 then the decathlon 400 meters sir we'll keep an eye out for ya Romeo's got the empty lane that just outside in the Venezuelan Victor's gone out we used to be well one for the outside in the green and red but it is the era mio down the backstraight is already closing up on beach silikal Toland outside him Jaromir has a lot of strong 200 meters here we saw novak do the same in the first heats can da Romeo have the strength to see it through the line Victor still going well on the outside for Grenadier between them Vichy lack of Poland and it's these three call of Germany trying to get himself into it as well Victor looking strong down the home straight as Jeremy Lowe starts to tie up call on his inside Victor on the outside strong finish from the granadan but it will be call of germany who takes it from Victor as Jeremy I ran out of gas and finished third the winning time 48 49 well that'll be a seasonal best for Victor excuse me for Victor Linder and Nicolas call 48 48 for call you saw him really make a move in that last 100 linden Victor as well and I'm always thinking if you guys had that much strength to make a move then you should have run the first part of the race just a little bit faster a lot of guys just hang out till 300 meters and then they want to finish strong a nice finish my call good job by Linden Victor you came here to get a seasonal best you have to run your best races at the World Championships here we see the start linden Victor long stroking strides out of the blocks but these guys have to pace themselves a long ways for guys this big your emil did a good job but he just couldn't hang on I always wanted to run to the 300 meter mark and just hold on this is not a distance that these athletes cover on a very regular basis they'll run 300 to 200 very rarely where you stepped us out to 400 meters well a good run from Victor in the context of keeping himself right in the medal shake up call though coming through to take it in that time of 48 48 rounded down he picked up 886 points for that victor 883 for his round of 4855 in the era me eight seventy seven points for the forty eight point six six clocking as we see Nathan let's call the 21 year old European under-23 champion World Youth World Junior and European junior titles over the last few years and that European under-23 title earlier on this year as well he actually ranks 6th in Germany at the javelin down overall and we don't know how powerful Germany are on the javelin saying something isn't it it absolutely is I was surprised when I saw the results for that under-23 World Championships 77 meters I thought that's a typo but this guy is an absolute dynamo on the second day and he had a wonderful battle with with the Georgian with the Georgian sophomore who the NCAA Championship johannes herb from Estonia who just is taking time off school has started and he wanted to just prepare for the Olympic Games in 2020 so this is a very interesting heat coming up here because Kevin Maher who is of course the world record holder but not currently the event leader yes he is currently a vanilla story that you're a bit of papers confused be thanks you've got 1 & 2 written on it that you're writing down the times aren't you rather than the rather than Thea the time rankings for 400 rather the overall positions it is late at night we can allow herself we've got bits of paper everywhere here Kevin may as the event leader he is currently 11 points ahead of Damien Warner going into this final event Linden Victor before this one was in further three five nine one tears the priors in fourth so three of the top four go in this final heats but the question why of course Dan is we saw Kevin mayor clutch his knee with his final high jump attempt you know during a decathlon you feel all kinds of crazy things he got off the pit he looked like he was able to walk back to his crew without any assistance that's for sure you want a world championship you got to fight for it you know I can't tell you how many times those banged up hurt thought I was injured thought I couldn't continue but when you think about getting to the end that's that's part of it it the teams in come from Germany it means many struggles many battle you gotta fight for a world championship in this particular event and if you're not willing to fight for it you know what you can't stand up there and get the gold medal I'm not sure automated decathlete and a little runny nose and I'd take a day off work and I'd be terribly ugly awful is Damien Warner and he's seen it all and done it all but still only twenty nine I said it were the greatest of respects it's been around a long time Damien Warner to World Championship medals Olympic bronze medalist in Rio 2016 World Indoor silver medalist in the heptathlon in Birmingham in 2018 as well solid championship level performer and the closest rival really for Kevin Mayer here in Doha well this is an opportunity certainly for Damien Warner to put some points to put a little distance between himself to put a little distance between him and and daylight between him and his Kevin Mayer for tomorrow because he does have a better personal best I'd like to see him really dig down deep he's run 47:38 Pearce Lapage 4770 for these guys can really help each other if Pearce can go out hard I know he's got kind of a banged up knee as well but the Canadians could could make a move on the rest of the field right here so it's our final action here on day six of the idol F World Championships here in Doha there's the third of three heats and the men's 400 meters decathlon as we reach the halfway point in that event a mean Warner just a last minute bit of administration I mean your shoelace is undone is not an ideal way to run a world championship race as we see devin williams having kind of a quiet day we'll see how he can start tomorrow off good 400 meters here's good start tomorrow and the hurdles could really change things around for him well face lavage who is one of those who also is limping around after the item here's Kevin mayor then 48:26 is best here a Damien Warner as we mentioned is a couple of seconds faster on paper the pair only separated by 11 points in the overall standings sky Kaczmarek 4675 runner overall standings Kaczmarek currently down into 9th position the first of the Williams in the US team in this heat Harrison Williams sandwiched by the Canadian Damien Warner the world leader hence why he's got his yellow bib on but of course Kevin mayor hasn't contested a fall decathlon this year prior to today devin williams of the USA is a 48 second man vitaly joke of belarus is nearer 48 seconds and the final man will see will be the australian sibley do blur the commonwealth games bronze medalists on the inside so the final event of the day people on the clock between Warner and mayor that will be interesting 1.7 seconds the difference between their personal bests in Warner's favor well three guys have personal best in the 46 seconds we'll see if somebody can rise to the occasion and challenge her personal best Harrison Williams has gone 46 as America's gone 46 and Damien Warner has gone in the 46s the decathletes digging deep and Doha reached the halfway point of their world championship one lap of the track so Damian Warner right in the center in Lane five Kevin Maher one from the outside in blue mayor's going out and strut as well their waters gone out strongly as as Harrison Williams of the USA and also Kaczmarek of Germany Kaczmarek probably the leader at this stages touring Harrison Williams along with him but it's Casimir act coming up on the inside of Lapage of Canada right on the outside Damien Warner will look to come strong in the second half of the races on it relatively conservatively threw the first hundred as Kazmir ik straightens up a home in the lead the cars on the outside now Damien Warner looking to find something Harrison Williams there Damien Warner possibly not finding what we expected him to fire as he grits his teeth for the pars the other Canadian is finding something and you might have just hit Kazmir it very close on the line Kevin Mayer comes in last of the finishes 4735 the winning time well that was a nice move on the outside by Pierce Lapage he'll have a seasonal best and probably a personal best he really made a nice move with a hundred meters to go he'd let he open up that long stride he let those long legs carry him to a second-place finish there I'll tell you what these guys are tired and I think about the schedule there is 47 they giving exact same time for both competitors 4735 personal best for Lapage high Kasim Eric was very courageous to lead that race but man these guys are tired that is as tired as I've seen Damien Warner and I wonder if this changed format this change schedule with no break in the middle of the day is really affecting these guys that much well certainly they were all out at the end there the facials from Damien water in the home straight as we thought he might come through but really when he asked for his petrol tank to provide some fuel there was nothing there caz Merrick really digging in Lapage and she looks relatively comfortable compared to some of the others down the outside well I think it took him a few meters down the home straight before he realized he still feels pretty good he put the burners on with about 50 meters to go I think he could have started his kick a little bit earlier but man these guys have been working so hard all day long and you know what you're right this is a relatively short amount of time to have a World Championship on the first day so you know I think I think the schedule change has really affected everybody I thought we'd get a better run from Devin Williams Harrison Williams and Damien Warner all three of them well the action started just after 4:30 local time this afternoon here we are at just after 11:30 local time in Doha so across seven hours they've had five events but normally they'd be spread between two different sessions it was a lifetime best for payslip Arjun at decathlon 447 35 which got him nine hundred and forty-one points exactly the same as Kai Kazmir ik 4735 as well to confirm that result for you Damien Warren is 48 one two got him 903 out of the list Kevin Maher 48 99 got him eight hundred and sixty-two points so Damien Warner picking up 31 points on Kevin there and that has led to some interesting changes in the overall standings as we crunch the numbers we'll bring that to you in just a moment on screen and fat we'll do that right now and it will show you the Kevin Maher as a result of that 400 meters away at being a season's best 24899 he's actually seen him slip down the rankings before we see that we're gonna go back to the first heat of the men's 400-meter scuzz martin rio from norway has managed to run out of his Lane there right on the outside and so it's disqualified but subject to appeal of course well that's too bad you know better you've got to stay off that line but it's so tough running out there in Lane eight he took one stride two strides he looked like he was almost in the other lane that definitely warrants a disqualification well that is how the decathlon stands at the halfway point Damien Warner of Canada leads the way from his compatriot Pearce Lapage as a result of that excellent 400 meters Kevin may at slightly below par in the 400 meters down in 3rd position ahead of Lyndon Victor but just 39 points overnight separating the top four down oh boy this is going to be interesting would see these guys come back tomorrow I think they're going to be plenty tired definitely definitely sore but here we take a look at how the points were distributed over the five events today Kevin Maher got off to a fantastic start good 100 one of the best long jumps of the day Pierce Lapage actually wins the long jump but Kevin Mayer had the second best shot foot and then he hai jumped he John Hagee high jumps pretty well not as high as he jumped in the world record but there's Pierce Lapage 45:13 after day one so that is the conclusion of our action here in the Khalifa Stadium and what a night it has been here are the world championships
