Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
Can I just say that I really respect Lindsay just straight up going โyeah I donโt think you should buy Harry Potter stuff anymoreโ two weeks away from her debut novel being released to stand up for the trans community. I try to be all cynical and detached but as a trans woman that does genuinely mean a lot to me.
Yeah I know the fact that a huge chunk of her YouTube audience is trans probably made the decision easier but she still had to do it.
I know Lindsay downplays her own influence and Iโm not saying that sheโs got Logan Paul reach or anything, but she does have nearly a million YouTube subs, over a couple hundred thousand twitter followers and on the eve of her debut novel sheโs advocating for boycotting Harry Potter because JK Rowling is transphobic. Thatโs honestly quite brave and gives me even more respect for her
As someone who has been saving up to buy the $500 6020 piece Lego replica Hogwarts this video makes me sad.
As someone who cares about trans rights this video makes me happy.
I'm glad she brought up Orson Scott Card. I'm like Lindsay in that I don't give a fuck about Harry Potter, but learning about Card's weird shit was a genuine blow to 13-year-old me, and in retrospect I can see that I settled on the angle of separating him from his work in my mind. At least he never had nearly as much clout and popularity as Rowling.
It may be because Iโm not from Britain where transphobia seems much more widely accepted, but I find it so strange that JK Rowling has no self-awareness about the bigotry she spreads.
Itโs also kind of ironic that sheโs claiming victimhood over people standing up to her bigotry even though standing up to hate was one of the main themes of the HP books.
Hope Lindsay does more hot take videos cause man we really needed someone to explain this insanity to the lay person that doesn't understand why this is a big issue.
Also JKR what the fuck is that necklace? Who told her a chain necklace made out of butter was a good look?
By consuming her products does she mean monetarily or by merely reading it? Is there any harm that can come from personally consuming a product without momentarily supporting the author, whether by used material or piracy? I'm honestly curious.
gee gosh, it's almost as if a system that allows people to exclusively own ideas could be, IDK, bad? /s
Ive never doubted this woman and I don't have a reason to start.
Lindsay has been excellent in whatever capacity I've found her.
So this isn't a surprise, just a welcome expectation.
