i've given rain and wind for today so i'm hoping it comes later you know hoping it's sort of late morning early afternoon when we're well into the job and um we've got the bulk of it done so uh yeah people complain about this time of year in general the lack of light you know the rain the wind and stuff like everybody complains it seems they tell you how down and depressed they are try working in it you know try doing a dangerous job in it then you'll call it depresses it does add an extra element of kind of anxiety that you know when you know volatile weather is incoming it's not a great motivator anyway just you know the kind of lack of light just feels grim no it's not like the spring and summer you know you've got tons of light you know you can work late if you have to anyway today we've got a dead older tree beside a river to take down when i was in the uk alders used to be um just little things you know about that big did it never got very high and um you'd see him in the field somewhere you know but out here in uh certainly on the west coast of bc they uh they get they turn into quite big trees if they live long enough because they're not that long live but in the right growing conditions they they can be quite big notoriously weak wood even when they're alive very prone to barber chairing as well if you fall in leaners and stuff so that they're not they're not complicated structured to work on is just they're not it's not nice wood especially when they're dead they're extremely fragile and degrade very quick so um but i think there's a couple of the trees around we can use to our advantage one that i can tie into and another that i can um i can rig from so uh we'll just see when we get there is it as i remembered was i did i assess it accurately at the time so uh i just got one person helping me today a girl who's uh been working with me the last few months um she's got a couple of years experience and um and she's doing all right i have to say she's uh she works really hard and is you know quite bright and i think forward things plans and calculates takes nothing for granted so it is it's going all right the name's amber so i think we're about still about 30 minutes from sight see you there okay [Music] uh [Music] so this so this so [Music] oh [Music] okay tagline's yours [Music] hey [Music] [Music] oh [Music] um [Music] [Music] okay [Music] [Music] [Music] um [Music] so [Music] [Music] wow [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] oh [Music] bye [Music] [Music] um [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] foreign [Music] yeah i just have to free it from that okay so let it go and it smashes that branch just stop where you are a minute [Music] you know just just keep it as it is amber oh wow ah wow [Laughter] ah wow it's about 3 30 so we got away with it and um got away with the bad weather i mean just got some rain in the afternoon no wind which is the big worry and uh yeah that's it on the way home so uh fiddly patient work like i say dead holders are just terrible to work on and uh the limbs are all spongy and saturated and they just break off really easy and the wood's not much better that one was about safe enough to climb but i'm still you know glad i had that tree to work off it would have been a different job altogether you'll notice i was using the friction hitch midline to attach the limbs and the logs so the long tail works as a as a tagline so amber was able to lower in one hand and and draw the limbs out in the other hand so i i've shown that a few times but i just want to reemphasize that it's the knot for big logs that you know that technique is for relatively you know light to moderate branches and and short logs because um you know you will burn your uh friction hitch out if you're trying to do massive stuff so uh just be mindful of that if you use the technique it's dead-only and it's dead only for attaching multiple limbs but don't get carried away just remember it's it's not the same as tying the knot so uh yeah other than that the job went okay we picked a good day for it in spite of the forecast and that's another one knocked off the list i've got nothing but trees like that at the moment dead trees are tricky rigging jobs i've got no small jobs to fall back on not not even a hedge you know for a bad weather day i've got absolutely nothing some reason all these kind of jobs they always seem to land on my doorstep and i don't get so much of the easy stuff well i just ain't got anything at the moment nothing small whatsoever so i'm just picking me battles with the weather even if that means taking time off but you know i've got a lot of dead trees to do further up the peninsula at some point i'm just waiting on permits for them and some other big stuff as well and all before christmas so uh anyway i'm going to stop talking because i've got to get home because our kids waiting on me so uh all right thanks for watching it's not gonna be the best edit this one i realized that but i'm you know i just didn't have the time to set up cameras everywhere today it was a kind of a patient fiddly job you know the oldest like i say the really fragile you could probably see that so it was just a basic head camera um view through the whole thing because it i just didn't have time to mess about but it is something to watch in there it's better than nothing all right i'll see you next time
