hey everyone kazmo here and today we're going to take a quick look at how to set up our communications in the aircraft and uh three main things that we need to kind of focus on for using this uh system is we're going to use the keyboard unit our upfront display and our comms page we're going to hit comms down here and we've got a lot of information here the good news story is in order to use the basic comms we don't need most of this in fact almost none of it and a lot of it doesn't actually do anything it just kind of takes you to weird things which you know in a real aircraft obviously these things have meaning uh but we don't need them too much here all we need to focus on really is this manual right here right so manual we're gonna click on that and it's gonna show us our vhf uhf fm1 and fm2 and that information is repeated up here on our upfront display you can see our vhf uhf fm1 and fm2 all right before we get into programming the radios i just want to kind of show some of the functionality here uh we're sitting in the back seat we're going to move this rts switch uh which is going to change which radio we want to operate on so right now we've selected vhf and we're going to do the rts down to uhf you can see that the left arrow is actually moving down to the radio that we want so if we want to swap back and forth now if the front seater was changing then we would see that rocker that small arrow move down and up uh as he moves it but if we are in the front seat we can see that for us in the front seat our rts is that again left so whichever seat you're in you're gonna see which rts you're on uh with the left arrow and the other guy is going to be on the right arrow all right so you can see that we've got our primary frequencies so this is the frequency that the radio is actually tuned in on and then over here is our standby so this is the frequency that we have set up in the standby of course right now they're both the same but if we wanted to change them we'd use the swap button right here which is going to take whatever frequency you have into standby throw it into primary whichever one's in the primary it's going to go into standby much like the little arrows would indicate so we hit that button and the radio is going to retune but of course we've got the same frequency so let's go ahead and put something into the uhf so we'll look over here at uhf and let's say that we want to tune in 124 dot nothing a couple different ways we can do that we'll select the radio and we can see our keyboard unit has come to life we're gonna type in one two four dot zero enter and you can see that it is entered into the vhf there and we can see that it's entered into the primary here on the ufd and we'll rocker on up to the vhf and we'll hit that swap button and you can see that one two four is moved over to the standby one two one dot five another way that we can do that is we can just type in the frequency so let's say we wanna put in uh let's say one two two dot five oh that didn't work out because i've gotta wake up the keyboard so let me clear that out you can see that cursor is there so whenever you use the keyboard if you don't see that cursor flashing you've got to hit a button to kind of wake up the keyboard so i'm going to give it a second let it go back to sleep and then i'll demonstrate all right so the keyboard unit has finally gone back to sleep and uh we want to type in a frequency so we said we want to type in 123.0 so right now i've got to wake up the keyboard so instead of just typing one two three i've really got to hit some buttons i'll hit one once and that'll bring up the cursor now i can type in one two three dot five and right now we don't know what to do where to put it so it's just kind of in a scratch pad we don't know where to put it and we'll just go up here hit vhf and now it's letting the aircraft know hey that number we typed in that's where we want to put it now it's in there we hit enter and we can see one two three dot five and that's repeated up here on the upfront display once again we've got the rocker in the correct location we can hit swap and now 123.5 is in the standby now as i've mentioned a way to interact with the radios and select which one you want is up here at the rts switch on the upfront display another technique is here on the cyclic and you can see that this little uh weird three-way switch you've got this toggle that goes to the left that keys the radio you go to the right it toggles the ics and then if you press it on the z-axis it also functions as the rts now one thing i absolutely hated about flying the apache is that rts on the cyclic only goes in one direction i'll show you what i mean let's go into the controls and we'll find the rts we can see here rts depress let's just go ahead and map it to something real all quick so now i'm gonna hit the rts to press we're gonna see what happens you can see it's going down but that's it it's only going down you can't go back up and so this was sometimes a problem if you were on the vhf and you wanted to go to fm1 you hit it one too many times it's gone fm2 now you've got to cycle all the way back through to get the fm1 just kind of becomes a little bit of a chore but that's how that functionality works now of course i've got the srs not connected showing here if we were connected to srs then these frequencies would be repeated into that program and of course i guess we need to talk a little bit about the comms panel so over here on the right side and this will be repeated in the front seat as well is we've got our various volumes so we've got our vhf uhf fm fm2 and high frequency and then we've got our master volume and these are your squelch so during a cold start all these switches are in the down position you're probably gonna want to flip them all up you've got your ics push to talk or hot mic your ident for your transponder and these are all your auxiliary audio volumes at any rate again not meant to be a deep dive into the comm system because there is a lot of functionality here in the real aircraft that we don't have to worry about in dcs at least not at this time i don't know what else is going to be integrated but if you just want to get your basic comms up all you need to know how to do is again go to the comms page go down to manual and insert the frequency that you want here and just understand the swap functionality in later software versions you can actually put the frequencies into the standby which really makes a lot more sense than this current build but uh as it stands right now this is the software version and the way that it worked in the apache anyhow hopefully that was helpful to you guys you can get out there and talking on srs or the uh integrated dcs com system now and we'll see you guys later take it easy [Music] you
