DaVinci Resolve Issues - Missing Waveforms and Cache Location Errors SOLVED

[Music] welcome to upside in my channel i'm james thanks for clicking on the video i'm here to try to help with the small nuances of changing from console to pc built my own computer i've done tons of research on it i spent a couple of years getting through some of these frustrating parts of changing over to pc and i feel like i have some knowledge that maybe i could share with you that's how this channel is going to start and it may go somewhere else we'll see today's video i really just wanted to focus on one thing which is the davinci resolve issue that i was running into and apparently other folks have run into for quite some time i've seen lots of people in forums read it and so on had the same problem as i'm having but nobody had a real solution uh so the problem i'm talking about is a error message that pops up whenever you start a new project when you go to edit a video on davinci resolve at davinci resolve 18 just downloaded it about four days ago so it's a pretty fresh install and i had these issues the major issue didn't seem to even be that these error codes were popping up it was more so that there was no audio waveforms so editing these videos without any of those waveforms it was hard for me to figure out when there was no noise and when i had stopped talking for too long and it just didn't seem easy enough for me to do so i saw a video on youtube uh however the guy was indian talking in hindi didn't understand what he was saying because obviously different language with no subtitles um so i just kind of watched through the video a couple of times and i thought i would make essentially a version in english for anybody in north america or anywhere else that's english primary that may be able to follow a little easier um i fixed my problem so i'm gonna link his video inside of my uh description down there um you should like his video uh if this helps you then sure click the like thing or uh subscribe to somebody that has just a few subscribers you can be one of the first son let's see five years when there's 60 million people watching me [Laughter] you can be like hey i was you know one of the first five you want to be that person i'm upside we're going to get right into the video now here is davinci resolve and i'm just getting error messages every time i load it up okay so here is the error message that i get all right so an untitled project we'll just leave it doesn't matter cache location update required no idea what it means hitting okay stills location update required no idea what it means i'm gonna hit okay and it's always the same three that i get no matter what i do so i just click okay and then it seems to work fine but what i'm trying to figure out is why i cannot see my audio waveforms no matter what tips or whatever i looked up on youtube nothing worked so i'm guessing it's a problem with this and i'm brand new i those all three of those video edits were not even edited i just started so this is a fully fresh install of davinci resolve 18 so i haven't really messed with any settings uh anything like that so in that guy's video what he did is he went over to to his timeline view here i have messed with a couple i shouldn't say i haven't done any settings i have changed a couple of things uh but i don't think any of that matters it was nothing complicated so he went to settings delete render cache all um you can delete all this you can't undo okay and then the second thing that he did was go to master settings and then he went down to working folders mine are just set to the you know this general setting here um gonna browse we'll go ahead and put my files on this one and we'll go into a new i'm gonna make a new folder and he didn't do this but i'm going to because i don't really like any of the folders here i'm just going to call this one videos videos 2. select folder so let's change all of those to that and save capture location update required so we need to go back into our settings again capture and playback that's where it was save clips that's what it was right here gen three and we're gonna go to videos that one save control sync um so let's close it and that's everything that he did in his video we're going to reopen it again and see if it worked this is the one i just did and i don't get the error messages now let's try to import the media and we'll just do mp4 intro video too change project frame range sure let's see if this works there's the waveforms god you have no idea how exciting that is the freaking waveforms have not been showing and i've been working on davinci resolve for you know four days which isn't a long time but it's a long time when you're looking for specific parts of your audio to edit and clip out i was going to use them to obviously you can tell when there's a break in sound because i get quiet too much so you'll you'll see that after i edit this you won't see that i guess because i'm going to edit it but i am going to be able to look at those waveforms now trim those out all the way and that's the entire freaking journey that i went on to to get a hold of the setting so seems kind of stupid i'm probably gonna post this video after i edit it hopefully this helps some of you guys out again thanks to the uh indian dude romney rum from chata uh that's not it that's so disrespectful uh rahul mira maybe i said it right maybe i said it wrong go uh hook this guy up subscribe like that freaking video um you know pretty pretty to the point um it just was in indian or hindi or something like that so very hard to understand unless you're watching very closely but go ahead and give that guy a like if this helped you great i just wanted to put something out there for us english speakers and and they tend to ramble on a little bit but uh the whole point of making these videos and for me was to try to help people with the stupid little things uh the nuances of gaining your uh you know just working on a pc coming from you know gaming consoles to pc the little kind of nuances that that nobody seems to to remember to tell you about to teach you about so maybe that's how i'll start my channel out um just remember there is always an upside to everything that's why i knew my myself that uh everything will always be okay and there's always an upside see you guys
