know I took the checkered flag up to then I don't know what happened last few laps I have a flint just before that last caution to read my foot out and after that I couldn't see honey laughs was left or what I'm you'll just have to try to get back I don't know whatever at that point you just charged for it the officials are still trying to sort it out in your mind when did you get around Darrell Waltrip pastel in the fourth turn up there I don't know you know it's probably their judgment you know jr. and Doug and all guys at heck of job we just did everything we possibly do it's in their happened out there put him and Daryl he said he got under Daryl in and everything got closed I guess they both I guess Darrell didn't give him any room and not and evidently they touched he didn't the turn four we just got together he come down I still try to help my group as well just touch that's all there was to it you know I would rather finish the race me win it and nothing like that happening but you know it happened this way in 87 and I don't think those guys were doing that on purpose either and I didn't have nothing to do with you in the purpose it was a tough race I'm sorry you can see that tempers are hot when there's that much money on the line as quite a fight broke out just outside of the winner's circle here officials and other team members moved in trying to break it up put on for just a few minutes so when you have that much money you just naturally have a confrontation and that's what we've seen today well a lot of emotions here in the tide truck and Darrell one of them was anger when you guys got back here what happened those last couple laps poor god I was a little bit loosen three and four and I guess rusty saw that so coming down to get the white flag he just drove in under me up there and just turned me around it didn't take a lot but you know with some people you know how they are so if you open the door I guess you get what the I guess you can expect something like that it was uncalled for I could never race I could never walk through this garage area having done that to someone but some people can and more power to them I guess Darrell after the race there was an altercation outside of Victory Lane of both of the crews getting together a little bit that what are your feelings about that well the motion is high you know this is a this is a show and it's sort of like the animals are getting a little tense right there at the end of the show and one of them might bite you so the tension was high that was totally uncalled for out there and I think it on most of said about his NASCAR first of all not putting me back in the lead because they went back to the last green flag left they said I was leading that lap second of all that they don't put a stop to something like that that's that's the two things I think are so wrong and I guess you know we'll have to live with all that stuff I guess everybody got what they paid for today Darrell rumor does that Rick Hendrick may protest the finish but calls the rules stating that you Mike should have been back up front know what I don't know what you did do you know we can't go back around the thing over and I he's absolutely correct I mean you can't go back until the last green lap and not put it back like it was they put everybody else back like he was and I didn't spin out I got knocked out so I should have been allowed to go back to the front if you're gonna do it right I mean to me that's what they they just took two hundred thousand dollars away from me and told that boy that what he did was a ok do it again but if you got to that's Terrell Waltrip let's go to Jack arute Jack I'm here with less richter is the vice president competition for NASCAR unless what's the official ruling on the finish of this race well right at this point in time now Rusty Wallace is the winner in Winston and he finds anticipated for not only what happened on the racetrack but the altercation that this fight after the race I think the altercation of the fistfight is going to draw some attention as far as the incident that took place in the racetrack those two cars racing for the finish and it got together one came down one might have gone up it's hard to say we are looking at it from a different perspective than maybe a television cameras that's the word from NASCAR and they certainly do have the last word in competition here in the Winston Ricky Rudd now is in the lead coming off the second quarter now he gets it again a Davey Allison is back the third he and David [Music] nice save didn't hit anything the break they need for their last caution flag afford their last pit stop at the Darrell computer turned around what you look like [Music] we'll be Allison having a discussion as they had a meeting of their two cars earlier in the race that sent Darrell sliding through the front stretch right back the leader of the race right now is Davey Allison here's dr. punch well indeed the leader right now the defending champion of the valley del meets 500 and Davi at last restart that could have been what gave you the wind what happened do you think or any amount of mr. shifter did you just catch him not going into one no I was on cooler tires fresher tires and Ernie was and I think he spun the wheels a little bit coming off before over there when it did it just gave me a jump you know we've been racing heart and cars driving really good though I got a hand it to Larry McReynolds all the guys on the crew they've worked really hard all day making the adjustments that I've asked for you know we've just been riding the hunt all day long it has been a difficult day from the top to the bottom of the field contact almost every lap well you know this restart stuff has been a mess and you know we got to do something different we've got to do something different because it's just getting look at all the torn up race cars around here what happened over there you and Darrell Waltrip and you were penalized put in the rear what actually went on out there well see when you're Darrell Waltrip you can get away with that kind of stuff and all you got to do is look at the side of my race car right here that's coming off the turn two and going into turn three with me on the outside and we got down there and I still had my month momentum up I raced him I went ahead and race him we come off the corner over there he jumped something front of him backs out again and there was nothing I could do when I hit him you know then he comes over here mouthing off at me but when you're Darrell Waltrip it's okay but anybody else you're not Davey Allison obviously upset but that continues to rain is gonna be a smile on this young man's face let's go over to John Kernan who's standing by with Darrell Waltrip we've heard from Davey now let's talk to Darrell his version of what happened out there that ended up David getting penalized you know and I'm really happy that he got penalized they need to be penalized and he just find me out you know it's it's real it's tough out there today and you have to use all the judgments you got you have to be careful and you don't run into somebody knock fire them on purpose and he's had a little bit of a problem with me and I don't know what it is that he gave me a finger last week down at Darlington when I was lap down I passed him that four tires went on today's fund me out we're gonna have to have a little talk I guess father-son tight well aside from that I heard you telling someone else you got hit nine times there just seemed that everybody was a little bit overanxious out there Luke too impatient the pit rules I've got everybody's so frustrated right now that you just have to do stupid things you get hung up on the outside I've got a fast race car I need to be up front I'm hung up on the outside every time and and I get booted up in that loose stuff and either hit the wall or run over somebody or wreck and so it's a this is a hardest mentally race I believe I have ever tried to run I started 22nd I'm pitting on the back straightaway that's bad enough and then the pit rule just makes it worse so I just pray to God if you'll get this thing straightened out it is killing a lot of us but y'all you were able to come to the front moving through the top five oh yeah yeah I'd be kept going and hitting out on the last lap and I know people get tired of hearing that but that's actually what happened coming back in and topping off that was the saving deal for us but the main thing is it's house they be doing you know he and I got together on that deal over there but it was nothing like a David he just kept cutting and cutting him when we hit he just turned and went right into the infield so I don't know I don't know what y'all so but we did get together well that's the first thing we might tell the folks almost the very first thing Darrell Waltrip fast when he jumped out of the car here it's how's Davey Allison will tell you Davey I think he has a broken right arm and may have a fracture above his left eye but otherwise it seems to be okay DW I'm sorry sorry that happened but you know we were all going for the same hole and then spent a long time well it's been a year ago this race or this spring race I guess so it's been almost a year but today is this car was good here in the spring and then we broke a gearbox today everything weren't good we shifted noble thing to do Darrell Waltrip in victory lane for the first time in 1992 let's go down trackside live join macula blues with Tony Stewart Matt Chris a few random incident starting with Bristol and Tony are people making too much about the on track stuff or there may be some hidden frustrations over the fact you haven't won yet this year ah there's no hidden frustrations I think the people that are blown it out of proportion are uh you know Mike joy and Larry McReynolds and Darrell Waltrip in the booth nobody else has been complaining about it you know Darrell or not Darrell but rusty and I talked when we saw each other you know two days ago at the airport we were just kind of laughing about it and shook hands and went on and you know our fans of Sedalia Missouri and and Knoxville I well they came out to watch us from the sprint car they stood out in the rain for a half hour and in the rain to get autographs so I just keep it's funny I keep watching the replays of the race after I get home and listening to Darrell and Mike joy and McReynolds it's like you keep watching the screen waiting on tattoo to come by and he's a little white tuxedo welcoming everybody to Fantasy Island well you look at your career in cup you've got 17 career wins but only one before the month of May three wins here gonna be tough or easy getting number four tonight well it's never getting easier in this series I mean the competition keeps getting tougher but it's it's because there's a lot of great race teams and a lot of great drivers out here and you know it can be done I mean NEVER I think the last one we won here we started 28 there back further back than that even so you know with a new surface you know we none of us really knew what to expect but we all watched the Busch race last night guys were able to get in the second groups that's encouraging for us and uh I think all the fans are really going to enjoy the race this weekend but you know the hardest thing for us this weekend you know we ran that eSGR car at California for for Richard Childress and our chopper pilot geez I can't remember Scott's last name now but from Paducah Kentucky he he's just got called back into active duty with the with a garden reserve so you know I lost my helicopter pilot and we'll we're just praying for him and hoping that he has a safe trip to Iraq and you know gets the business done at hand over there and gets home to us hey man yeah Jesse asked Tony telling this is a reality show and you know what we just talked about well I totally missed the other night when I was talking and we just talk about what we see and the one thing we see is a common denominator of him involved with a lot of other folks you know so I mean we're not picking on him we're just telling what we see DW says Tony that he's not picking on you he just is seeing what the video shows yeah I know Darryl's memory kind of gets a little screwed up sometimes I guess he forgets that with all the real changes he wants nascar to make you forget so if they changed the rules and took the champions provisional way he would've been able to race the last two years so I know Darrell is doing what he has to do is job but I think there's a lot of times what you see on the screen isn't the whole total story and I think they've I think they've done a real good job in the booth of blowing things away on a proportion like they normally do I guess that's probably what they need for ratings which I think our sports doing a pretty good job of rating so without having to butcher up what they see on the screen alright thanks very much for your time you know the truth is NASCAR did meet with Tony they haven't punished him yet but and and you weren't the only ones complaining rusty did complain kasey kahne complained Jeff Burt and other drivers have complained well it's like I told I talked to Tony I said look man there's a common denominator in all these situations and it's you and so that's the best luck that's all I can tell you and I don't need to defend people know you 184 raises three a cup championships I mean Tony Tony does have have one but he has yet to win a race this year and Jeff his crew they have felt the effects of this to some degree well I mean when you're ever the crew chief whenever you're part of the team and you've got to back your driver I mean whenever I worked for Darrell whatever kind of problems he got into they were my problems so if they're if Tony's catching a lot of flak well then Greg zip it down the whole team that they're the kind of team they're supposed to be they backed their driver they feel the heat again you know you don't need that because there's a tough business rent already when you're trying to win races you don't need that kind of adverse publicity I can tell you that and I tried to hurry I mean I was not the first guy that was a I tried to hire him to drive my race quality and I am a huge fan Tony's good for the sport because he does he's actually does win it he does have a personality I think a lot of drivers but so far and in NASCAR's eyes he hasn't done anything wrong on the track correct no I don't know I don't think he has okay J Darrell thinks otherwise that's why we're here you
