the white flag I was coming up on the white flag getting any earth is the dilemma tall and Davey Allison is fun right now has the lead all kinds of contact here in the last few laps and the white flag flies more Ricky was now in a return them for love and where he was playboy to receive the checkered flag as the wind of the banquet frozen food 300 here he comes waving to the pit crew as he passes by the black flag is shown to ricky-rock try to show the black flag Davey Allison saw the checkered flag you know they gave a black flag to Ricky Rudd as he came down in past the start/finish line they waited checkered flag to Davey Allison he apparently is going to win don't understand as you know I've been raised in 63 and this is about one of the dirtiest calls I've seen late a long time you know they told us some drivers meeting the last lap here on yone but Ricky was not driving dirty he touched him sure but during the hurricane turn and I could have pushed the 28 car around with my hand but I mean it would have been reversed when the paint no different and you know these guys right here trying to win the race and it comes down to last lap and you know you've got to be able to raise and if they're going to take it away promises and fungally wrong I've seen it happen time and time again through the years and they've never taken a race from no one yet doing this if they do this this is rock obviously 1l wolfin very upset let's check in with John Kernan I'm standing by with Davey's crew chief Larry McReynolds and Phil a bit of confusion they gave a black black the Ricky gave the Centrify guys mechanical official word yeah I don't see how it could be no confusion you know I worked with Ricky Rudd for two years and that ain't Ricky Rudd style they let him get by with that you know that I ain't got a whole lot to say about NASCAR's procedures the 28 car Texaco have them Ford won the race that's the way it is well that's the view from here Larry and his crew are say enough about Larry McReynolds and all these guys on this crew Robert Gates and all the guys needing to chop just give me everything I need I'll tell you we just went out there and we drove our guts out today and you know the shame what happened right there on the next last lap down here at turn 11 but it was the justification came out in the end and we're tickled death to be here in victory lane for second times this season we're going to get some more now what happened down there you Aniki racing with two laps to go when I drove into turn 11 in a neck clan know somebody just plowed in the back of me and turned me around I just suck it in first year and took off the kept going and they came back and they said you know they said they were going to penalize the stop-and-go because it was obviously delivery you know he didn't have a stop until he came on around and took the flag but they didn't give him the checkered flag did you know that you were going to win the race well I knew that if he pitted first stop and go then he couldn't win it anyways and we had it me and all I had to do with does not spin out the rest the way around the racetrack you know it was an action I got in today he has my fault yeah he was a leak car and I got into him but I didn't get a black flag until I like flag lap it is I don't know I just just sped up this mess what's the tailpipe on the left side it looked like as he was coming down there you're all right in here coming up through the gears look at pump your tire there was a little parsley rusty jump on the brakes it looked like something the 27 car stumbled a minute and rusty tried to miss him and hit the rear shot the 25th out Earnhardt and then in a road to but that 27 stumble a little bit on that starts what really stack developer now the carburetor could have been loaded up and make it a little puff of smoke whatever it was though he did fail to go up speed Ricky any comment on that well they got the goodies vidiq award they ought to have the rubber head of the race award I gave it to Rusty while it does my vote I don't know about the rest of these guys it sitting your toe up in the garage but oh just a dumb stupid move I mean I don't know where he was going you know you just got to wait your time tracks treat everybody pretty much inside their time that dumb mess so people simply going he called the change Ricky one of your best race cars this year you had to nice and smooth ride you ever decide to take away a lot of God's work awful hard of it you know imperative to everybody involved what Ricky saw was the obvious thing you would see and it might have been the first thing you saw at home that Rick that uh rusty ran into the back of Strickland today we say many times there's always several points of what happened in the story the ten cars still up in the top this is word began up and four [Music] it has touched ever so slightly with Jeff on the inside data calming down the main straightaway [Music] 180 mile an hour bumper tag [Music] skaar stays pretty straight but finally it just loses control brakes traction that round it goes as a catalyzer then try to slide by on the inside gets collected to he's got a little close there Ricky only 10 15 laps to go shame you couldn't get there to the end yeah been nice to finish the race Jeff was coming on is trying to get by me tried two or three laps and finally when you got by me run me up the fence crowding me pretty hard we raced down the front straightaway bunk a little bit but I guess Jeff's got little loose in the side turn sideways in the trial and came back cross and now I got into both of them with that many laps under their belts the cards get hutton the tires get hunt and the drivers get a little hot and get a little tired and get that clip it in things get a little confusing I think things got a little hot yeah a little computer yeah thanks Rick let's go back to Ricky Craven not how I wanted to be talking to Jeff Gordon or at least not what I want to be something to him about but Jeff tell us what happened there then well you know we found ourselves in a pretty good position here at the end mushara like we have in the past and I knew I was praising Ricky and my car started coming on and you know I was trying to get in time I go to outside he's running up high blocked me I try to go low heat run down you know so I finally got up underneath them and I had to kind of work my way up but I was loose and I kind of worked my way in front of him I guess he didn't like that so he decided he was going to wreck his boat so he drove right to back me all the way down front row oh-ho-oh Rusty Wallace closed off of that high lane Ricky Rudd goes to believe here comes Harvick underneath [Music] that doesn't hang it off so looks like a miracle hi there Wallace is back-and-forth I like that's what Harvick made contact with the back bumper of the 28 car [Applause] dang it right there don't heat the metal [Applause] this is by far the safest our defense oh nice settings turn ricky rudd sideways off and have it front plays that part is a safe right there here comes Dale jr. on Rutgers second is Harvick takes the lead short track wildness is setting in the late laps at Richmond was quicker than left to that left in kevin harvick we've seen Harvick slip we've seen rut slip we've seen Wallace live in it he got the bumper here comes right oh the bumpin one front goes back to the beer was five to go here's the old bump and run on it with five laps to go and it's going to be a big night of a championship for Ricky Rudd checkered flag is up what wins the Chevy Monte Carlo 400 Richmond [Music] is that a clenched fist being shown there we got lot to talk about congratulations a fake win for you here in Virginia early birthday present for ya yeah it really is I say it was a you know six to go Havilland Florida fad back to swing all these guys are aiming for Dover all these guys that work hard on this thing every week we had a heck of a race car today and looked like looked like we weren't going to win it had somebody kind of roughed us up a little bit and looked like we weren't going to get back to the front time as it turns out I was like yes they do is just a pure miracle and gave us a chance to come back and win too right let's review some things your passive Rusty Wallace you know what rusty broke loose tongue it looked like I hit him rusty was real bad on that restart I'm not really sure he was holding up a cup and I mean we were running inches off each other but honestly can say and you think the rusty will tell you I didn't touch him he was just trying to put the hammer down really hard he knew he couldn't live he broke loose and didn't get it back you know about you in the 29 Ricky well as though you know how is just a friendly little short track bump and ruined there you know he sort of sort of gave me a cheap shot I thought early on he kept jacking me up and straightaway and I don't like that a whole lot if you're gonna you're gonna you know hit some I move on go on but don't just hit the Roger bumper but you know it all worked out you know he wasn't I was a little mad at the time but the we came back and once that kind of cooled off a little bit and you know I didn't know what to expect on the cooldown lap actually come up with graduated me so it's pretty neat first up how hard did you hit the 28 well I are weird our tires up there at the end to give ourselves a chance to get going it was scooting the tires pretty bad and I just kind of misjudged and hit him a little bit harder than I wouldn't planning on hitting him at all but I just got into a little bit and he saved it and when you get into somebody that late in the race on short track you got to expect a little bit in return and he knew it was coming I knew it was coming and you know our car had fallen off a little bit and his car was pretty good the first one up we congratulate him he did what he had to do to win a race and it's great when you can race with people and and I'm just glad I didn't take him out because I didn't mean to do it last lap chick took position ricky-rock by Wallace if Rusty's our only not happy at the tactics Mildred Smith does poor tempers tempers right to the very end hot tempers after the race with you and Ricky Rudd what happened at the end of the race I just got racing order to turn three I got a little bump further behind and lost a position that's about it just a Bristol races retaliation no I just couldn't get stopped and Rusty Wallace very kind with his words very politically correct come homes with a fifth place finish and he is on his way to the Winston Cup truck for talking to Jay burns after a couple of races where Ricky did not finish well at all a good rebound tonight tell us about the well some are calling an incident on the last lap with rusty well I'm not really sure evidently Rusty's bikes come out about three or four laps to go I was able to catch him got into him a little bit and I guess when the race was over his brakes really didn't work sort of fade to paper I guess I must be him yeah rusty got me I please when I got the bra remember Bristol he obviously had the best car there at the end the race what happened with you and Rusty Wallace well rusty I don't know what was wrong with him he was he was off the pace that was wrong with and I guess you needed a college and I was laughing him and I guess needed a college to decide to wreck later I never seen nothing like it I know he's got the nickname rubber head in the garage area now I never understood it but I understand it now some very strong words between you two what was said in the garage area there was just a sort of a one-on-one discussion then we didn't discuss too much the bigger crowd around so what you know it's difficult to have perspective but this was a great run for your Tim ricke I thought it really was you know I mean literally he was definitely very very fast always many fated there for long stretch and he was the best guy at the end I said when we spawn we did something to Karl or said bang the fender up or something it's just it's just a shame you got to be able to nonsense like this you know you've got a lot of respect to that guy and got I wouldn't give him two cents right now you described a disappointment it's just kind of hard to put in words I guess going keeps me keeps me going I think about what's going on here and I look at the world's problems this didn't see they're all right they finish top five today but somehow doesn't feel like a top five now and Marty the other member of that jewel is Rusty Wallace and rusty first off what's your take on the incident between yourself and Ricky Rudd my second incident he was getting really lapping as you rat we're running to mean a back straightaway and as they went out a corner I just didn't it's right I'll try to pass one outside he slowed up a little bit I got the tail end up and that's my story a lot of speculation possibly a payback for the post race incident at Bristol I wouldn't pay back we're going to be fast to do stuff like that but he's got a clue his memory is pretty short here and the crap out of me at Bristol you know and now he forgets about it you know I mean got towed that a long time ago I think I'm a name that we did our biggest rival are trying to get to the buffer of the 12 cars Wow Kenny Wallace dick of the high side and the caution flag is out Kevin Harvick's not going to finish second tonight did he get into them that's what I want to see here yep yeah sure it is yep and boy we talked about the salt I'm betting when you get hit going into a corner you don't save that race car another noon dude we go angry drivers we've got something tonight we got Robby Gordon looking for somebody that would be Jeff Burton bring you're looking for me now heaven on earth with Ricky Rudd yeah and he knows that Ricky runners cometh upon 5-pound area on pit road you hear that be smart they are he's coming to find him and so what happens in these situations is we get pit crews involved Arvixe pit crew coming in to intervene and an army of Winston Cup officials City and Kevin will go for a visit in a big red truck [Music] right [Music] you know and those good rich guys they were there to protect Kevin from himself yeah well there were not that's only reason they were there they weren't there after Ricky Rudd whatever yeah these guys are going Hank get on for a car man [Music] the NASCAR officials tell Kevin to get off the car get the Truman off the car Kevin going to have his say late here we go he wants to talk to father the 40 they're going okay what does make official the and ii ii ii mani we've got hot very trying to hold that kevin very frustrating I can say what Jim dinner is Carly good tonight Ricky Rudd took a guy you know take a cheap shot you going to get one back I promise to that and it's off to the big red truck our scrap pricing the crew chief erupted Marty and Ricky being tender the car right now my Pat tried to his crew chief Ricky was the contact with Kevin about I don't know Kevin had trouble on the restart he couldn't get going or something anyway went down turn one I guess you just put on the brakes a little harder than he had been and I got in the back of I mean my fault but plenty on purpose is accidental it still here is just absolutely ridiculous at NASCAR this is our car that's going next week for a look at the damage I'm that's totally ridiculous after the
