- is up to second now Darrell Wallace jr. back to third - white bike is out one more time around Corey Lajoie working his way all the 15 of Yakka delegates turned around Moffitt gets turned around Moffitt turned around running second here we here we go right there there's yackinelli getting turned around he was running fourth Darrell Wallace jr. turns around Moffitt he was running second Brian Ortiz takes advantage of that and moves up behind the 18 here's another look simultaneous spins right there 18 of Darrell Wallace jr. all over the back bumper gets into the back of the 11 spins the 11 out and they're not happy and as a matter of fact they're gonna talk about it maybe a little extra than talk Darrell Wallace jr. keeping his hat on well come off it in the 11 they call this place the madhouse and you've heard the crowd get roaring there and some people weren't too happy about how it ended let's hear from one Darrell Wallace jr. and Corey Lajoie were classmates in high school together but how cool is it to be able to race with one of your friends and still have a podium finish at Bowman gray that's awesome and Corey and the other car to be all night he didn't rolls they're a lot better so you know it's his win finally came he's been trying for a long time working his heart out so it's good to see a close friend get the win and there was a definitely a triple race during the last lap of that race we know how it is here at racing at Bowman gray Stadium would you have given him the bumper a little well he kept getting into me I know that's racing and Corey look like you're over drove it Conan going into one on the white flag and shake him off but he moved up and gave me a lane and I guess didn't he come down at the same time that's racing I know it happened - two weeks in a row but it's it's it's racing I apologize I mean it wasn't a tickle at all and things got heated on the on the front stretch here but I think I'm calling now I'll go talk to him here in a little bit I know he's frustrated but it was a good bounce-back for us and Joe Gibbs Racing it was definitely uh a positive night for us good points finished for us it was dogging us had a VIN phone is one thing everybody back in the shop coca-cola Toyota Brian Frazier and all the guys working on the car hard thanks to things you can be sure of at Bowman gray Stadium wrinkled sheetmetal and hurt feelings Brett Moffitt what happened on that last lap man we were where we needed to be you know we were restarting forth all night just it was too early move people huh you know the Darrell he was running third and I could easily moved him and got that spot but I don't want to race like that and you know we finally got to where we were restarting where we needed to be on that last restart and you know Sergio let us in a lot so I was a big help but you know the 18 just got into us and decided he wanted the spot worse than I did and just proceeded to wreck me things got pretty heated out there on the track that you and Darrell get the talk yet not really as crew kind of broke it up you know before we really said anything you know he just thinks he's always in the right and he's not you know I could have done that to him every lap of the race but I didn't because I want to race like that all season but you know he goes out there and does that and that's just not right well Phil I think we should come here every week so what do you think what a great day to see Glenwood Hall of Famer and Victory Lane there with Randy and Lisa Lajoie and Cory next stop moment next stop for the K&N West series the Bull Ring Las Vegas Motor Speedway that's Thursday June 14 3 p.m. right here on speed side-by-side racing a little bumping and banging some bent up sheet metal at the end of the day maybe some tempers flaring a bit as well but it was the elation of a first-time winner Corey Lajoie finds Victory Lane at the historic Bowman gray Stadium this copyrighted telecast may not be reproduced we transmitted earlier you can inform without the authorized written consent the best are broadcasting a NASCAR would like to thank all of our loyal fans for your continued support and we hope you enjoy today's broadcast speaking of the bottom that is where chase Elliott goes to wait as he gets to the inside of Darrell Wallace once again they thanks [Music] Jason we had tried to get here get into the top Darrell Wallace Darryl comes back tries to get into that back all bus gets collected by the war machine Wow really going for it all now and I think that was just a little bit and it Wallace Darrell Wallace jr. in their passion he's over in turn number three a lot of damage to that truck both front and rear this is the lap before because the 17 is still on the racetrack right side of the screen let's see if Bubba goes up the track and reinforced his Ron hi door-to-door and yeah Bubba Wallace way up the racetrack this is when the caution is out the caution is out and contact made by the nine I think the 54 into the wall remember we saw it Texas a couple years ago Kyle Busch Motorsports driving his own truck and Ron Hornaday having issues that's Ron Hornaday accomplishes truck having issues there's the cottage options at Ron's ahead of Bubba little contact there we run after the car came out he's contemplating his next move and he just did his next move listen neurons audio title tell the guys that I got on the outside well I didn't either fundamental first like that Robin [Music] well if we hadn't been watching it we could maybe believe that yeah yeah I think it's it's in the eyes yeah so NASCAR officials are going to be taking a look the replays they have every vantage point that we do they will make a decision on what took place there but again the 17 Timothy Peters was into the wall that brought the caution out initially right there you go to the tail end of the longest line of NASCAR said well that's gonna cost him four spots at all and that that's really going to be pretty minimal considering what it would it could have been we're sure we're showing the nine of Ron Hornaday NASCAR has said we want to chat with you so they're calling him to the NASCAR hauler he will head over there to talk with series director Chad little obviously about the contact that took place on the racetrack between he and Darrell Wallace jr. wife Lindy there and the other party involved in that issue Darrell Wallace jr. standing by with Herman Bubba just side of the infield care center first of all are you okay and tell us what it happened on the racetrack with you in the ninth row I'm better now that I had my coat I don't know I'm running the top and he's uh let's see right here [Applause] just flat-out Raxus just just turned us so it had been any contact prior to that on the racetrack early in the race like I said I was running the top and he couldn't get by me so he'd do it what he had to do it was too early to force the issue I mean right here I'm three laps to go I'm trying to get my line but take his line away because I knew he wouldn't give me the top so move up oh did he hit the fence no so I think it was pretty clean to me so it's unfortunate we come out here and I seem like a veteran out of the rookie out of that situation so it's okay we knew we were here we are a little missing all weekend we were a little tight loose and just gonna really pinpoint it but I can't thank toyotacare go follow Oakley everybody that worked hard on this truck Jerry it's unfortunate these guys because they worked their tail off to know three weeks in a row to get this truck ready and now it's jumped so we all right we're going to Kansas a new track for me it would be fun a lot of composure shown by Bubba Wallace the story between Hornaday and Bubba Wallace jr. with Herbie well Ron Hornaday walking back to the garage some contact with you and a 50 full on the racetrack from your perspective what went on Bobby earlier in the race he just coming up with three or four laps to go Frank straight there was a corner coming up they're not on the outside of them and yeah but tomorrow we got in the fence a little bit and then the yellow I know was that I got dad in there and he started racing on the back straightaway he slowed up and then I run into him a little bit and then down the back I went over the head of tired I know if he swerved and hit his brakes on me or whatever but I turned him in the fence and I feel like a total idiot so don't apologize to Ric written all them guys because they work hard on their trucks and we were Marlin ours and I don't work that way so you know they're racing hard lately these rookies and I'm learning learning how to race him now you don't get earlier he picked me up down the back straightaway and tried to drive being over my head already so I don't know I just I thought I felt like an idiot for wrecking him but stuck all day but we'll get it better it's Ron Hornaday you here's Bubba Wallace talking things over with the 60 I thought he I think he said good job that was it and I just grabbed him really quick I screwed up so bad in this race it was it was miserable I like my god sound I got in I Eric they're in a pit road and that put us in a [ __ ] that put us in a corner our guys did a heck of a job and we brought back a good car to Iowa and should have been in really good contention for this thing but you know it's just it's tough we had so many restarts there wait guys just they're tough there's dive-bomb in there and that's stuff six of the two here [Music] who's worked the last time going up and caught a couple of people asleep and left that open for him he thought he would try it again Brian Scott wasn't having any of that watch this the leans in looks like they're talking then things get really aggressive [Music] you walked away and then he walked back over here to talk about it some more here they come they just went after it as in most cases there's two different sides to it now let's hear from it Jim what you got what I got is a obviously intense Brian Scott tell me what led to the conflict with you and Bubba Wallace well first off obviously hats off to all the guys at RCR ECR I think that we showed as a company we're really dominant I felt really good about our Charlotte Chevrolet extremely good out front we started a little bit with it in dirty air you know we just kind of kept having restarts and red flags and the race wasn't really going smoothly and that that didn't really play into our favor and we got to restart we pitted and it put us back a little bit track position we got a restart and the sixth is I mean he drove down into me he tried to at least for my another walk out of here Brian I mean I just I never felt like even give me a chance to get in the corner and he land every day really unfortunate such a fast car thanks to Charlotte Albertsons everybody and you know we're racing for wins so we don't have to worry about points and stuff and that puts us in a position to race these guys aggressively if that's how they're gonna race that's Brian Scott a very long tough night here at Kentucky he ends up 13th and Bubba Wallace 9th well let's hear the Bubba Wallace side of the story Alex Bubba's Bubba's walking back to the Xfinity garage your side of the story from the dust-up on pit road with Brian Scott all right no if we got together on pit road but hey we come home nice no the top 10 so that's good she's not what we were expecting all day our bleacher report mustang wasn't wasn't what we had in practice it was kind of a totally different animal but that's what produces here Kentucky great racing all around thanks for the fans coming out Xfinity putting the race on just a bummer we didn't run better we were expect a little bit a little bit better than what we did but try to do some pit strategy but ended up hurting us in the long run but we'll go to Dover we're really good and that's a fun walk us through the final restart Brian Scott side of it was that you crowded him down on the racetrack your side of the story on the on the restart as you can see the replay here that was early in the race but that's Bubba Wallace certainly dejected not happy at all right now and that's his side of the story always gonna be two sides pretty much every time that you ask two drivers what happened he ran into me he ran into me as I yes well since you're gonna hear oh into the wall hard the six if Darrell Wallace jr. Oliver and they pile up into big impact you can hear that in the booth so right here this is on the restart exiting turn to and you see he hangs a left gets below the two and the 20 then shortcuts the backstretch does a nice job clear about these cars getting into turn three I thought he's got the 11 up in front of him the radio we heard him say tell the 11 thanks and came down on eleven takes a left to try to pass the 22 I'm sure he didn't mean to hit the six but simply he's the cause this would show a clear day the six inside the eleven and with Darrell Wallace jr. who just got out at the infield care center let's go to Mike and you can see the look of dejection on his face he told me he was okay you're okay that's good to hear was an awfully hard hit we heard you make comments about the 11 what transpired out there on the racetrack my grandmother was giving me the ride of my life it was the most fun I've ever had all year and just circumstances took us out so she's hard thanks granny I love you going to homestead and let her out again obviously quite an emotional day for you Bubba your grandmother her name above the door on the car you had said it felt like she was driving the car at times to that point it certainly seemed like you had a very good race car how would you describe the night and as you reflect back on this chase what will you take from it just thanks to my team for giving me the best race car all year long just sucks man granny was going up to win that thing on that restart we were moving it was probably the sexiest restart we've ever had and he's had it taken away from us about like what happened with her and everything was so good and the next thing you know she's gone from us so it was it was a long shot to get in the chase but to just have a good race and get a good finish we need one we've had this luck so long this year and it's just so hard so just I can't thank my granny enough for giving me that rod because it was fun thank you so much for your time thank you mike is standing by with whit and he has been watching the interview we just did with Elliott Sadler paying close attention to it what do you make of this situation in terms of how it might affect you well before I say anything about that I really want to apologize to Bubba Wallace totally didn't know he was there trying to cross over 22 and I hit bubble he's having a good night he had a rough week so I'm sorry Bella but what's going on right now I don't really know what's going on right now I just thought we did the best we could all night it was probably our best race of the year and that's what we came here we needed to do and whatever happens happens we'll see where we end up they were loose lug nuts or unattached lug nuts on the one car that could potentially I mean certainly you know we don't know what's gonna happen but potentially be a Points penalty and it may affect your situation what do you think should happen in regards to that I mean the rules are the rules so whatever happens happens and if I get to benefit from it awesome I'll take my ticket to homestead any way I can get it but extremely proud of my whole team and everybody at leaf filter gutter protection for believing in me and Matt colleague for starting this race team just to put me in this situation and most importantly my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for putting people in my life to get me this level giving my hope and stay up and positive over the years and down times so she's very thankful right now I'm pumped up what was the night like for you overall you had a fast race car yeah it was man I just I had nothing to lose so I that was like probably the first race of my life that I would just win after I didn't really care what happened just super aggressive I had the best restarts of Hananiah race the best I ever have it's good to come here in in you know I can look in the mirror tonight you know that I gave it my all I didn't leave anything on the table and I raced everybody clean that's just how I raced like I said with the deal with the six was totally unintentional had no idea was there so we'll see what happens here in a couple minutes though as of right now though Kelly Blake cookies out of the chase but stay tuned an era comes with the number 320 years ago 20 years of trying for Earnhardt he won the Daytona 500 Austin Dillon wins the 60th running of the great American race at a car wreck here I think it's Regan 2016 Daytona 500 champion Denny Hamlin you came oh so close and I saw you watching the monitor just there a little bit of disappointment how was today yeah definitely disappointed living on the leading on the last restart but just I mean it's a 50/50 shot it's about what Lana can say we're gonna add to but the best and I had the 37 committed to my rear bumper which was great he just we couldn't get the 21 to buy in and it's whatever line it's really about the third car in line if whoever that third car in line is closest to that line goes and we just didn't have the line that went but Congrats awesome really happy for Austin and his whole team and these guys work really hard and proud of our whole FedEx camera team for giving me a car that we were about roll back get on the lead lap there and give ourselves a chance at the end it was a battle all day long for Denny Hamlin he comes home in third place Mike what a great recovery for Hamlin and just look at that just the way Hamlin beat Martin tricks by inches to win the 500 two years ago Darrell Wallace beats Hamlin by is that even an inch my second place look at those numbers 343 and 11 those iconic numbers all one two three Bubba Wallace and a Chevy wound up second and Vince Welch is standing by with him well did you hurt Austin Dillon thank Bubba for that push that he he needed to get to the get to the front but so close in your first full-time ride for Richard Petty in the 43 to finish second at the Daytona 500 yeah I got so many emotions going right now Congrats Austin RCR Alliance one two that's pretty good I want to see the replay for us say anything stupid but he might need to take some adderall for that one but all in all a great day for her click enclosed Chevrolet Camaro zl1 team just an incredible experience for me to be able to to be here for my first what do you see in here yeah he says I cut its tire down looks like the same movie pulled on Blaney at Martinsville but hey we edged him out we beat him so it's all good hey hey we're Daytona 500 and put that aside my nerves are shot up right now the king comes in all mad at me and says after all I've told you what was the first rule that I told you to do and I'm like I don't know I lost my breath and he says don't wreck the car and we so thank you to the King for keeping me you know and keeping him young as well but thank you who the King as well for giving me this opportunity putting them second place putting click and close in second place we know how much stress this team has been through in the last three or four months just trying to get this program together so for me to come out here and this hectic three months I've had with the Facebook series behind the wall and Bubba Wallace check it out anything for us tonight but p2 for my first Daytona 500 I'll take it Chris turn to is calamity corner in Daytona Jamie McMurray was a late pile in as Bubba Wallace got tangled up and put us under the second caution of the day Kurt Busch where's the other one the black number one right of your screen Kurt Busch in 43 not sure how this occurred so you can see went upside drop to 1702 he and the 17 touch a little bit here yes it looked like Kurt thought he could get clear get down in front of Ricky Stenhouse jr. just wasn't quite there yet and Jamie McMurray in his final 500 could not avoid the 43 of Bubba Wallace nope he didn't know which way they were going to go and he guessed wrong and Wallace with a bit of a shove there from Tyler Reddick sends him right into the 1 of Kurt Busch you know I'd seen Kurt Busch making a bunch of moves I think his car was actually working pretty well he made one move trying to go a little bit further forward didn't work out for got it behind you seen it all in non-stop and the crowd here loved it when Bubba Wallace got behind the 18 and turned him chaos everywhere everywhere in a half mile sever turn road course and it started with a seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson we know the pressure and you see right here Bubba Wallace accomplished beaten and banging down the front stretch a big shot by college Bubba Wallace does I don't care you're done I'm defending you in a turn one listen my boss might have become a fan favorite with that movie a lot of contact here and both drivers very aggressive on the front stretch and then bumble wallace after the 18 went by have just decided well you're not gonna you're not gonna go any further around this turn I'm gonna spend you here's the first trip into the newly designed freer chicane success at the front of the field everybody played nice give and take of cars to represent a little damage on the 88 all right he missed so she came there drove through it you're on board Martin treks June to the 88 goes to the bottom of the racetrack gap it just lost completely misjudges the speed of the cars the problem basically spins himself out when there are so many cars trying to go into this chicane side-by-side they all have to slow down bucks for pretty gets in the bag Austin Dillon gets into the leopard quarter panel the 43 car bubble wise he just didn't understand how much those cars were going to slow down and locked up the rear tires and spun himself out did a nice job or got lucky I would say got lucky as the cars spin around them anything oh no Baba lost the 43 gets the wall this they bring out the caution at the exit of the backstretch chicane this is gotta bring out a yellow sight there we go wrong direction I was gonna say just like the first beer kind of the yellow maybe that's maybe my magic 8-ball top Scooby let's see what happened Oh got a little help getting down into the break ins on there the Battle of the 43 for Bowman just cleaned me out yes have to wonder you said it's even Balon the Lasser will ask look like Bowman Kelly [Music] was flipping him off lap after lap and he finally said if he doesn't put that finger away he's gonna get one and he sure did playoff and non playoff drivers three races three issues Suarez and Logano at Las Vegas Alex Bowman and the three a week go at Richmond and now Alex Bowman again with the 43 at the rovol this season is unlike any other everyones fuses seem to be shorter than ever now is bonus into the signal don't flip me off I mean some people that will send you over the edge it makes you man so well Bubba Wallace come back and do anything we've seen it before hench Motorsports on Alex Bowman currently below the con line it has been an eventful day let's listen in some of the comments he had about racing the 43 [Music] fix this racecar won't handle it today yeah how about you need to go tell him Freddie what that was about the response that guy was don't worry about the epic playoff and he was bad because we ran him over to the backside chicane on the starter a Freddie's got to realize Baba has enough trouble getting around this place with both hands on the wheel you don't need to be doing a one-handed you know what I mean [Music] well for Alex Bowman the advances but first let's take care of the health issue we saw you get out of the car immediately fall to the ground are you okay and what did they do to you and the infield care center here yeah I was really sick Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday felt a little better today but just really behind on being hydrated and I'm just kind of exhausted so was tired everything was real tingly so just not a great feeling inside a race car but got some fluids and definitely feeling better we'll be we'll be good to go in Dover do you're okay all right now congratulations but to make your way into the next round you had to drive from 30 second to second today hey how'd you do that gun get that done after you know the first lap in that incident and then be how tough were the final laps Alex knowing he didn't feel well yeah I mean man probably lap ten in the race I was I was pretty done and out of it just from a physical standpoint so just try to keep digging obviously I tried to give it away on lap one as soon as I touched a brake pedal it just start will hopping and turn around on me so apologize to those that that got kind of collected in that I feel like I hurt myself more than anybody on that one but glad we were able to rebound and the guys obviously gave me a really strong car to come back through the field there and just cautions or funder green kind of is what it is you're doing your job but under caution when you actually have time to think about how you feel it's it's not much fun the red flag make it worse oh yeah for sure I saw them coming with water to all the guys behind me and I was out of water in the car and they didn't get to me they got like four cars behind me and then they started rolling and I was like dang it man I could have used that water but man it's just part of it I feel like you know I've been doing a pretty good job on the physical side of things this year with a lot of help from from Josh wise and leaning on Jimmie Johnson a lot but when you're sick it just gets to you that's all the good stuff now the tough part of this race the the incident with Bubba Wallace walk us through what happened is he might get have been going on for a while yeah I mean I'd I don't know if it was mad about the first lap or what but obviously that was just a mistake and then I got flipped off for every stir every single straightaway on the entire racetrack for three laps and I got flipped off by him for like three or four laps Roi Richmond so I'm just over it and you decided to take action on your own I just I got to stand up for myself at some point right probably wouldn't got wrecked if he had his finger back in the car but just proud of proud of our guys today and you know just really focus on moving forward and getting good this weekend this is now back-to-back weeks yeah they're Austin Dillon incident last week and then Bubba Wallace this week is they're concerned about that moving forward as a playoff driver now I mean we just got to focus on I'm going and running well obviously Dover we finished second in the spring so our race car is gonna be really strong there and we just got to go capitalize on that mentions all the racetracks in this round coming up they finish second at every race in the spring on those tracks you
