Dame Judi Dench: Kenneth Branagh is a nightmare

I think he's naturally a very funny person. He makes me laugh all the time even when he's trying to be quite serious. But the glorious thing about him is that, well you know, if I'm doing a job with Ken, I always know it's going - you're going to have a lovely time and you're going to enjoy it. And you're going to laugh a lot. And he sometimes gets you into a lot of trouble. We've had such great experiences, we really have together. Not least in Coriolanus at Chichester when I came in for the first scene and fell down and tried to get up and couldn't get up so they said 'oh, stop the show' and they got a doctor and the doctor came and strapped my foot up while the audience waited and he said 'you can go on, you have to have stick'. So I did, I went on with a stick. Well at the end, there was an enormous applause, I mean much more than normally, it's a kind of applause for fortitude you know, it's not really for anything else. And Ken kind of, was very very polite and handed me down to the front of the stage and huge applause and then in my ear he said "get off the stage you limping bitch" he said to me. I could probably see Ken Branagh playing almost anything. That's why you've got to be on your toes when you do anything with him because he'd probably play your part much better than you. He's a nightmare! He's a nightmare!
