Dallas Turner: Vikings Told Me to Be Ready to Rush the Passer as Soon as I Get Off the Plane

hi Dallas um welcome to Minnesota just kind of wondering what your emotions have been like tonight um what it was like to to hear your name uh or to get that phone call from the Minnesota Vikings and just what excites you about joining this team it was definitely a Sur Real moment uh seeing the the area code and you know seeing where the phone call was coming from but you know I was I already knew what time it was with uh you know having a having a visit over there with Coach okono you know questy and um coach Flores as well but you know I just want to give a thanks to those dudes and thanks to the will family you know just for taking a chance on me you know just uh picking me up in the 17 and actually trading up so yeah Alec yeah hey Dallas uh congrats first of all just what what were your impressions of those three guys when you came up here and met with them specifically Brian Flor as defensive coordinator honestly I already knew who coach Flores was before he was there so you know I kind of I knew I knew I knew what type of what type of coach that is um it's a fun fact coach of Carell and my one of my older cousins was played on the same football team for the Jets in the NFL a long long time ago when I was a little kid but uh yeah but you know I got a good feel for those dudes when I was in the um on my visit and you know it was just a a great feeling like you know they they know what they're doing over there for sure you know it's a it's it's a group of people that I want to be around who is your cousin uh Wallace Wright thank you Kevin yeah Dallas how do you think that uh you know I know it's early but how do you think that they'll use you in their defense they they tend to move guys around at different positions and it's not always in the traditional way you have any sense of how they'll use you or how you would want to be used yeah so uh uh speaking of that you know I got off the phone with them and uh they said make sure I'm ready to rest the passer as soon as I get off the plane so yeah so I guess that's D that's very key uh way of how they going to use so Craig hey Dallas congrats I was just curious if you watch much of H flores's defenses in Miami you know being from Fort Lauderdale if you paid much attention to what what they were playing with and um I know you kind of hit on a little bit but the opportunity to join kind of uh as he's rebuilding things here yeah I definitely did for sure I definitely had a chance to watch Miami Dolphins defense last year and how Co Flores ran that um you know I like I like what I seeing for sure especially from the past R you know Barry chub um Jaylen Phillips and Van ging but you know it was a very good thing to watch coach Flores coach those dudes and you know I like the I've scen a lot Andrew hey Dallas I remember the combine you had mentioned denil Hunter being one of the guys who mold your game after I'm just curious why he was the first guy you mentioned because of the body type resemblance in the way like you know he's he's not the big he's definitely slow but you know uh the body type you know it's kind of a little resemblance and you know he's not the most fast or athletic dude but you know he gets it done every time so you know I I really seen that a lot and uh I really watch his film a lot and then yeah so some of the moves that he did I I kind of did too and so you know I just kind of just moted into my own way you know Al yeah Dallas I think in high school you're coached by Jason Taylor just what did you learn from him about the NFL maybe what it's going to take to to be successful yeah you know uh at St Thomas coach coach Taylor uh kind of held us to the same standard that uh coach Sav held us to in college so you know it was a you know always dominate every play all day type of mindset with uh coach Taylor and so you know I feel like that just carried carried into me uh you know to college and I was going to carry on to me with NFL you know learning and experiencing a whole lot of new things you know just being a rookie so yeah any other questions for Dallas yeah can I go yeah yeah Dallas I was curious you know obviously that you'd been ranked at least in the mock drafts and and publicly as a as a pretty high draft pick and I wondered if you were kind of aware that there would be this big quarterback run early on in the draft and that that would push a lot of the defensive players down a little bit lower and how you kind of took that if it all while you were watching that that play out no I definitely was not expecting that I ain't going to lie T but uh you know it was still a good thing to see you know still clap for people you know still H for people but you know you know it you know the game's changing you know teams need what they need so you know you got to respect it goad Craig hey sorry one more I I was just catching up on a couple other things about your bio but the entrepreneurial Spirit can you can you tell us a little bit about what what that is in in your fabric yeah so uh entrepreneu SP uh spirit um it was kind of instilled in me by my father but uh you know my father got a chance to work on Wall Street got an NBA at the school of kog at nor Western you know has a long a long history of Entrepreneurship and you know I'm owning businesses and running businesses and also managing money so you know he kind of taught me and my brother at an early age you know how to read magazines of Wall Street and stuff about forun top forun 150 companies and stuff like that and so you know it was just kind of open my eyes up early to understand and see that type of world and exposed to that type of worldness so you know I just you know so yeah all right thanks Dallas looking forward to having you
