BRINGING AN ALABASTER FLASK OF OINTMENT, SHE STOOD BEHIND HIM AT HIS FEET WEEPING AND BEGAN TO BATHE HIS FEET WITH HER TEARS. LAUS TIBI, CHRISTE COMPASSION IS AT THE HEART OF THE GOSPEL. COMPASSION IS TO SUFFER WITH. IN LATIN,   (LATIN) "COMPATI" TO SUFFER WITH. IT CAN MEAN THAT ANOTHER PERSON SUFFERING OR HEARTBREAK BECOMES OUR OWN HEARTBREAK. COMPASSION CAN CHANGE THE WAY WE LIVE. IT CAN CHANGE OUR ENTIRE OUTLOOK ON LIFE AND CAN CHANGE THE WAY WE RESPOND TO THOSE IN NEED. TRUE COMPASSION, ANIMATED BY LOVE IS ALWAYS A GIFT FROM GOD. THE SACRED SCRIPTURE ARE FULL OF EXAMPLES OF COMPASSION THROUGHOUT SALVATION HISTORY. THE LORD HAS PROVED HIMSELF OVER AND OVER AGAIN, TIME AND TIME AGAIN THAT HE IS A GOD OF COMPASSION. A FEW WEEKS AGO, I SUGGESTED PRAYING PSALM 51 DAILY. AS A FORM OF PRAYER AND PENANCE. A FORM OF REPENTANCE. TURNING TO GOD. AND IT SAYS HAVE MERCY ON ME GOD, IN ACCORD WITH YOUR MERCIFUL LOVE. WHEN JESUS LANDED AND SAW A LARGE CROWD HE HAD COMPASSION ON THEM BECAUSE THEY WERE LIKE SHEEP WITHOUT A SHEPHERD. MATTHEW 14:13 - 14. WHAT IS OUR RESPONSE BACK TO THE LORD WHO HAS BEEN COMPASSIONATE TOWARDS US? THAT IS OUR RESPONSE TO THE GOD WHO HAS COMPASSION TOWARD US SINNERS . THE SINFUL WOMAN IN THE GOSPEL MIGHT GIVE US AN EXAMPLE OF HOW WE ARE TO APPROACH THE LORD FOR HIS GOODNESS, KINDNESS AND MERCY THAT HE IS LITERALY POURED ON US. IN THE GOSPEL THIS WOMAN HAS POURED HER OWN TEARS AND OINTMENT ON HIS FEET. AND SHE HAS DRIED HIS FEET BUT 1ST OF ALL THE LORD HAS POURED HIS COMPASSION UPON US. UPON YOU, AND UPON ME. 1ST THE GOSPEL DOES NOT GIVE A NAME TO THE SINFUL WOMAN WHO APPROACHED JESUS. SOME SCRIPTURE SCHOLARS SUGGEST THAT THIS MIGHT BE MARY MAGDALENE. THE GOSPEL DOES NOT SAY. SOME SUGGEST THAT THE GOSPEL WRITER MIGHT HAVE PURPOSELY KEPT THE WOMAN'S NAME ANONYMOUS TO SUGGEST THAT THIS CAN BE THE DISPOSITION OF EVERY CENTER SINNER , OF ALL OF US WHO APPROACHED JESUS. ALL OF US WHO ARE SINNERS. IN THE WAY AND MANNER DISPOSITION THAT WE APPROACH THE GOD MAN. WHO HAS COMPASSION ON US. ALL OF US. THIS WOMAN IS REPENTED FOR WHAT SHE DID AND HOW SHE LIVED. SHE ENCOUNTERS THE ONE PERSON WHO CAN HEAL HER AND LIBERATE HER FROM HER SINS. JESUS THE CHRIST, THE ANOINTED ONE. THE LORD JESUS IS THE ANOINTED ONE. HE IS THE ONE WHO HAS COME TO SEARCH OUT THE LOST, TO BIND UP THE BROKEN AND TO RECONCILE THE CENTER SI.N SI.NNER. THE SACRED HUMANITY OF GOD THE SON IS ANOINTED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT WHEN HE ASSUMED A HUMAN NATURE. WHEN MARY SAID YES. WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT OVERSHADOWED HER. THE ONE WHO CAME TO RECONCILE AND TO LIBERATE. THIS WAS THE OUTWARD SIGN, HER POURING THIS OINTMENT, THE OUTWARD SIGN OF THIS WOMAN'S REPENTANCE AND HER WILLINGNESS TO CHANGE. WEEPING AT THE FEET OF JESUS, SHE EXPRESSED HER LOVE AND SORROW AND HER CONTRITION. HER SORROW FOR HER SIN. THIS WAS ALL MOTIVATED BY LOVE. 1ST OF ALL THE MOTIVATION OF GOD LOVING US AND THIS WOMAN'S MOTIVATION TO, IN SOME WAY, TO SHOW LOVE IN RETURN. TO GIVE LOVE IN RETURN. AND IF WE ARE TO HAVE COMPASSION ON ANYBODY ELSE IN OUR LIFE, WE ALSO HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THE COMPASSION OF GOD. THE FORGIVENESS OF GOD. BECAUSE WE CANNOT GIVE WHAT WE DO NOT POSSESS. WE CANNOT GIVE OUT OF AN EMPTY BOTTLE. BUT WE CAN ONLY GIVE OUT OF SOMETHING THAT IS FULL. AND ONLY GOD CAN FILL US.
