in our deal place to semi-retire that was a dream you know we saw the business saw the house and came out here their search took them to the south of the island a spot called marathon des and a new development Paradise Hills villas and apartments were being sold off plan it seemed perfect I just look so over this valley and I felt my god it's absolutely it's like paradise with a Mediterranean down at the bottom you can see the ocean line is going by it you don't ever get fed up of seeing it it's beautiful they paid around one hundred and eighty five thousand pounds in stages as their three-bedroom villa was built and in 2008 it became home well this is a living area we have the face around built and putting ourselves and because it was makes it more homely you know because it's not a holiday on for as we live with Olivia permanently and this is the kitchen and I love to cook and I love to bake this is the outside space to the villa this is where we spend most of the summer it's self first and still get the Sun all day long we've got everything that we wished for Lansing Tracy's hungry structurally sound and in good working order but as soon as they step outside it's a different story out of 47 villas and apartments 44 are empty soon after they moved in work on the rest of the development grounds to a halt all these properties town houses and flats are all empty there are no there is no street lighting and we tend to try and forget that we are part of this complex everything has fallen into a state of disrepair you can see by that world it's actually dropped about four inches and this block here is got a huge crack in it yeah just literally falling apart and it's really dangerous these steps have been falling apart like this for the last so years this is the area where our communal polish on the glossy brushes that we had from the developer what people sat around enjoying a barbecue and stuff you know in the cypress sunshine well this is what we've ended up with it's a half-built swamp really the only things they're having benefited and mosquitoes it is a ghost Easter only three of the homes are permanently occupied Alastair Nethercutt bought a three-bedroom villa and it planned to settle here with his family but after a year living like this his wife had had enough and moved back to Ireland with their son very much my life I was all my family of five tell them oh I would only see the memory twice a year now I'm living on this first meal lifestyle is back in Northern Ireland I feel up that I don't so not just big pink the final generator John has the unenviable job for turning it off after 12 hours of supply at 1 a.m. every morning this is the exact opposite of what I imagined I would ever be doing in my retirement I would be sitting here drinking who's Owen eating feta cheese I didn't think I'd be getting out camilanator to switch a generator living without a reliable electricity supply creates real challenges tortures or needs the video shows that I can see what I'm doing waking up in the middle of the night or you get up early in the morning can't even speculate on especially in a warm country your fridge freezer you can't keep an eye on the freezer I have went down with food poisoning twice this year by eating things which we're tilted Alastair John Lance and Tracy feel stranded this dream is turned into a nightmare here on this miss named Easter called Paradise Hills it's nowhere near anybody's paradise so where did it all go wrong a year after Lance and Tracy made their final payment the development company went into administration owing huge debts leaving the rest of the site unfinished I wish I could turn the clock back hello with a list of building work still to be done the development hasn't been given a completion certificate this means residents can't get the title deeds needed to officially own their property it makes me feel sort of frustrated not more more than more than angry I feel as I was watching in my own house they say they've been unable to sell with their money tied up here they feel trapped we're stuck here with nothing no an estate agent would even bother coming up it's all look at the properties he's well known in cuffs not none of them would come up here and even take a look you mentioned the nominees are no no chance you'll never ever sell any of those for the residents of Paradise Hills the dream of a Mediterranean lifestyle is long gone I'm a prisoner in this country I can't get out of it unless I can sell up if I can return the cintamani I'll be the first play in office Ellen I'm not even asked for school I'll just say it give me a ticket out of here by the insistence shattered but things could be about to get worse the administrators have said the most likely option his paradise Hills will be demolished were this to happen Alastair John Lance and Tracey would lose their money and their homes I left a beautiful home in England enormous some
