The thing at 3:30 is called a Rubens' Tube. You can measure the distance between the peaks or troughs of the flames to find the wavelength and frequency of the sound waves, among other things.

Cool video. But at one point the guy talking said, "We owe our existence compleatly and solely to sound" which isn't true and I don't know how he got that idea.

Edit: rip my inbox. And yes I know that matter vibrates it has been commented dozens of times.

Also I know I butchered the word completely but I have chosen not to fix it as seen here thanks for giving me my 15 minuets of reddit fame.

Lot of bitching in this thread, I liked it. Cool video.

Kind of interesting aside:

Some string instruments use this same technique to help voice different parts before final assembly. By sprinkling sand over, say, the top side of a guitar and vibrating it at a certain frequency, you can see what shape the sand takes. Shaping the bracing, altering the thickness here or there, or otherwise tweaking it will affect the patterns, which changes how the part will resonate. This in turn effects how the instrument will sound when it's assembled.

The water spigot at 1:22 may not be CGI but it is an effect of the camera's fps and wouldn't look like that to the naked eye.

I am the cinematographer on this video. If you have any questions I'd be happy to help answer.

Reminds me of this.

This would have been cooler had the video not taken itself a tad too seriously. The effects they're producing aren't quite as mind-blowing as the OTT production values of this video try to suggest they are. I couldn't help but giggle at the part where he was playing with that plasma ball toy I used to have when I was a kid in time to the music. Was that meant to be impressive?
