[Music] thank you so my classes at Lab video Still Remains to this day like one of my most if not my most popular video and since it's been a year that since I did that video I figured I would do an update because new classes have come out that I've taken a liking to or I've evaluated some other stuff or I've even written some of my own stuff so I'm updating that right now so you guys might be able to go out and check out some new options to add to your DND tables also keep in mind if a class does not appear on this list it doesn't necessarily mean that like I don't know there's any kind of beef or anything like that it's just that maybe I haven't seen it yet or I just didn't really feel like including a whole list of like classes I don't allow and it just seems like a yeah different kind of tone I don't really want to do in this video so I'm just going to talk about the classes and I do allow starting out with all the official classes I'm just going to kind of go down the list and then list any band subclasses I have from there for the artificer the only one that I currently have banned is The Alchemist because I allow my Alchemist class if you've been watching the design streams you guys can actually go see me in the process of making that one and I talk a bit more about why that one just didn't really feel like it fulfilled my idea of what an alchemist should be but in general the artificer it's the class that I think I'm most looking for a replacement for right now and there's a couple other classes I'll mention here in a little bit that I think might be able to step up and replace the artificer at my tables it's just more so that like I think the artificer introduces a certain level of tech a quote unquote in a way that I it just doesn't seem like it always gels with the kinds of Worlds I'm trying to build for Bard we have kind of an interesting case here I actually really like the way that Bard was handled over here in galner's gadgets here and I think that the most interesting way that you can actually do a barn right now is to reduce it down to a half Caster so that's an idea that they had over there that I'm kind of trying to do my own Vision on so I'm currently testing out a variant bar that's just a half Caster with magical Secrets expand to where there's a bit more usability with it at earlier levels the Barbarian I allow pretty much as is I haven't banned much of anything I've tweaked the Berserker Barbarian and I think if I'm remembering right there's a few of the other subclasses that have done some quality of life changes too for the cleric the only two domains that I currently have banned are peace and Twilight which sounds like a pretty common uh opinion on the internet at least for the Druid I'm there's not really any changes there for fighter the only subclasses I don't allow right now are the echo Knight the elders Knight and the Rune Knight I do my own variant on the Moon Knight because I made the Rune keeper and I adapted a rune Knight Fighter for the system that I use for runes in my world for the Eldritch night I just think that Benjamin Huffman's magaz does the concept so much better and it gets all the Eldritch night flavor across but in a full class it's just yeah I think way more usable for the echo night it's just that I think think that the thing is going to over perform for what a standard 5e subclass should be for the fighter yeah for the monk there's a couple of the different subclasses that I've tweaked but in general I just allow Monk and there's a few alternative class features that I grant them in order to help enhance the play style they can now disengage without having to spend a key Point there's a few ways that they can regenerate key in the middle of combat so I do allow the monk they've got some variant features in there to make them kind of bring up their General quality of life the Paladin I can't think of any of the Oaths that I really take an issue with for the ranger I do a variant Ranger that I you guys can actually go see over on my website right now I'll have that down in the link below where I think that the ranger it's a spellless martialist with Hunter's Mark somewhat baked into the class rather than doing additional damage it's actually going to help reduce your crit range something that heavy arms is doing over in his Gunslinger that I was like that seems like the Ranger from fantasy that I've seen in so many games that is such a perfect idea Rogue currently knows subclasses are man there's a few tweaks that I make to some of the subclasses that are somewhat underperforming assassin and Thief for the sorcerer the two that I'm currently taking issue with are aberrant mind and Clockwork Soul aberrant mind just doesn't feel like it's fulfilling the fantasy of what it means to be a psychic or like a psionic character enough I think in a totally merits expansion out to its entire own class uh like if I was trying to make 11 and d d well she's not really going to be casting Fireball right uh and the Clockwork soul is just one that I think is going to massively over perform and I've offered my own alternative and yeah for the Warlock warlock gets a pretty big change at my table and it's tied into its overall signature can trip Eldritch blast is not technically a spell at my tables it's actually a class feature for the Warlock I just would prefer that the the unique can trip that is supposed to be the thing for this class be tied in strictly to a warlock rather than the one one of if not the best damaging cancer that every other class can go and snack with just like a feat investment or whatever so I think that you actually open up a lot more territory to expand on a warlock by removing Elitch flask from the spell list and making it a warlock feature wizard I've released my revisions here on the channel it's just generally a buff to their role play aspects there is somew of a mechanical buff to the wizard in that sense I feel like of any of the classes I should get some kind of a benefit to making spell Scrolls it should be the wizard like they should get some kind of a crafting enhancement in there you know but as far as all the subclasses go I honestly prefer the chronergy either chronomancy wizard that's over in hagran Clint's uh chronomancer's Guide to the universe so I don't allow for The chronergy Wizard and everything to be pretty okay all right so here's the big thing all the Homebrew classes that I allow now if it's not on this list it again it could just be a preference pick or it could be that I haven't really hadn't personally run enough to endorse it as like boom this thing is good to go and also no full disclosure I'm in kind of a weird space because I'm a YouTuber and a class designer so like me telling you yeah this is a class that I use at my table it's also one that I run just take it with that like grain of salt I guess but anyways that disclosure right there first off and we're just gonna go in alphabetical order on this uh the accursed by Ross lizer is one that I absolutely adore I've had three a curse at my tables in the past and then I guess another full disclosure I've worked with Ross in the past you've almost seen him here on the channel the a curse entire thematic I think injects what I really love is what Ross said he thinks of curse magic as like anti-magical in a way and he developed his whole own class around that as just like a narrative core you are a character that has been cursed at some point this might be from your bloodline or you picked up a magic item that you would tune to and maybe throughout the campaign you've decided no I really like this thing I'm just gonna deal with the curse eventually your DM might be like okay this is where we've got to start putting some of your levels into or something like that right I really love the narrative media curse because you are embracing this Affliction rather than uh this is going to be a thing that's going to be causing constant issues in play for you you can pass this curse on to other people like this is a class with so much flavor I've tried writing my own a curse in the past and it's a really fun one to actually home root for as well so I heavily heavily endorse Ross elizers accurs I talked about it a little bit earlier but my Alchemist is one that I I use at my tables so I'm gonna call that one out here there is a variant that I will also recommend here because it's one that I have personally played and that is The Alchemist by mageham press the reason I made mine was because I wanted to kind of embrace more of the crafting elements of 5e and the one that they have over there is relying on you can make so many of these reagents over the course of a certain rest I don't remember if it's short or long at the moment but mine is one that I was like I wanted to incentivize you to craft more do some of the classic Alchemy tropes and just overall expand it out from rather than just being like a bomber Alchemist there's also the potential for you to just Embrace a purely healing Alchemist if you want to like I said I would also endorse The Alchemist my main champ press but I have the one that I use because you know preference and yeah I designed it so anyways moving on from there the next class in alphabetical order is going to be another one of mine called the dancer I've been incredibly happy with the feedback I've gotten on this one I did do a little remaster of it earlier on I want to say this was last month where I I'm updating it for my train dress and I'm getting new artwork and all this other stuff but the dancer is an action Economy based support purely martial you are trying to use rather than you go on your turn you're able to give your action to somebody else I'll uh Fire Emblem it so interview Fire Emblem fans out there if you want to play a dancer in DND I go check mine out yeah next one up is another one of Ross's code the Elementalist if you are looking to make the Avatar fire bender or you know Elemental Bender I guess you can say this has been my favorite incarnation of that kind of a concept I think everybody's raised their own issues with four elements Monk and I think this is just one of the ones that just doesn't it's so much better that's not exactly a high bar in a pass but you know the other one that I would say also hits a similar narrative that I would also endorse because I haven't seen it it's actually the laser by Alex Tanner again go check these out figure out which one is more preferential for your table one of the benefits that you would get out of checking out the laser is that Alex Tanner has actually Incorporated this whole like how would you introduce this magic system into your world like as a part of the supplement there's World building guides somewhat inside of this incarnate expansion so if you want that sort of Avatar flare injected into your DND games definitely go check out the Incarnate next up the Gunslinger by heavy arms this is one that in the classes I allow video heavy was still in the design phase but it's now been out as a public release for I think a year now and I've had two Gunslingers at my tables Jessica Ellis oh man um I've had two Gunslingers at my tables uh one through an icewind Dale campaign where I I just I fell in love with the character um but the Gunslinger this is as heavy told me it was his it started out as a take on a variant Ranger that was going to be completely martial and it definitely has those elements in there where it feels a common piece of feedback I've seen about it was this feels like what the ranger should have been if you're into that gunpowder fantasy you want Firearms into your campaigns like Gunslinger by heavy arms has got the most reasonable rules I think I've seen regarding Firearms personally I think that they're way better than the ones in the dungeon Masters Guide there is another variant that I have seen at in play at one point and that's actually Gunslinger by mageham press it's another one that I would also say I trust my colleague's design sensibilities I've seen it enough to say it's kind of a preferential thing what kind of thematic would you want out of a gunslinger go check out the one by heavy arms go check out the one by mageham press and just yeah see which one is going to be right for your tables next one up that I've got is actually the Magus by Benjamin Huffman this is the reason why I don't allow for The Elder tonight right now this took the Eldritch Knight idea and expanded it out into its entire own class this does all the I think more active support offensive support in a way elements of what I thought spell sword should kind of be from like Final Fantasy as well as introducing a bunch of new ideas in here to make if you want a Gish class like you want a spell sword the class you think that that's Meriden in DND then this is one that I would oh man this is one of my favorite home classes I've seen out there going on from there I've got another one of mine called the merchants this is the one I think I'm most well known for it's applied the best seller over on the DM's Guild very very proud of this one I wanted to I'm kind of like the support designer it seems like so this was my first class that was a take on how do you make like a pure support in DND this is a half Caster in a way I guess you could say it's like a three-fourths Caster it's based off the artificial chassis in a way but uh this is one that like I designed and then I heard you know Ted mentioned it over on nerd immersion and he was like no this is one that I I want to be using to like make some NPCs and I was like so yeah I've updated it with some NPC stat blocks and I I am very very proud of this thing go check out the merchant over on the DM's Guild uh next one up is going to be the otic and this is by Ross elizer I you can tell I I worked with Benjamin and Ross in the past they're both guys I really looked up to whenever I was coming up as a Homebrew designer uh so the onig by Ross lizer this is sort of a traditional tattoo Shaman in a way uh if you want that like blood magic without some of the like narrative icks that come with blood magic at your tables this is the most like pleasing and comfortable class I've seen do the concept with a constitution casting based class I I love the Onyx like I already had seen Ross as a curse and I'd seen the sculptor but whenever I saw the otic it was I think I said this in my other one I was like I saw the accursion I was like this is really cool I should check out this guy's work I saw the skull through I was like this is also really sick what else has he got and then I saw the odic and I was like I need to get in contact with this person they yeah the odic is a I yeah I said this in the past this is like a master's thesis in class design so go check it out it's a little bit difficult to Pilot I I know it's a bit more of a complex class but there's a lot to love in here we're just seeing how far Ross can push the system all right so this next Creator is one that I have mentioned here on the channel in the past I've had a lot of requests to review his work I just haven't really been able to get to it yet but I did take the time to evaluate uh I think this was about two months ago kibble's tasty Scion maybe my favorite take on what it means to be a psionic character in 5e but this is psionics I still don't think are a hundred percent right but this is the absolute closest I've seen to hitting what it means to be a psychic character in fantasy and just at least in my brain over the years Kibbles has shown a mastery with the system and I think earlier on I used to think that some of kibble stuff was a little bit too big and expansive you know I I think whenever I had seen there was a version of the artificer that he had done back then that was like 40 pages and I was like oh that's a big class okay but this version of the Scion is I think the most pleasing version I've seen that I am absolutely willing to allow a player to play and again if something else comes up that I'm like later on down the line okay this might do it for me I I might consider swapping it out for something else but yeah the Scion by kibble's tasty is the Scion I will endorse as like this is my favorite one for 5V right now I will make mention of a variant here than I think it's it's currently in development but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far and it's one that I'm willing to allow at least in play test if somebody wants to do it and that is the psychic like Daryl Dominguez Daryl is drunken Yoda over in my Discord and I've seen Daryl uh put out it really put in insane amount of work into all of his design work and I think that this is one that could wind up being the one that really you know allows him to like establish a name for himself in the design scene we'll see how that one goes again it's and development but yeah so I am keeping my eye on the psychic by Daryl Dominguez as something that may also swap out for this spot but anyways moving on from there is the class that got me into 5e Homebrew design in the first place and that is the pugilist by Benjamin Hoffman had I known about this thing's existence back whenever I first got into DND this would have been the first class I played the pugilist scratched an itch at a time where it just seems so insane and 5V that the only way that you can make just like the bare knuckle brawler was to look at Monk and then monk has all this mystical Flair to it that just doesn't really seem like it's all that evocative of a bare knuckle brawler right like if you wanted to play Mike Tyson and DND I don't know that you would roll up a monk you know it just doesn't seem like it's hitting that flavor quite right I'm also not really a fan of fighter going over and getting the unarmed stuff and then yeah I just think the hugelist hits all the right narrative beats so well uh it was also a great introduction to one of my favorite like second level ribbon features I've ever seen so yeah the future list by Benjamin Huffman you all know it this is a massive best seller over on the DM's Guild and it's one that I'm happy to allow at my tables at any point from there we got another one of mine the maroon keeper uh Rune magic in 5e and it's been in my opinion really really really sorely neglected this is one that I spent over like four months in design I think technically I was concepting it out for a little over a year or so yeah yo no that's right yeah I started concepting in around Legends of Frozen for yeah okay so I had been building out the system for about a year and I finally sat down to just churn this thing out you can go see all the design streams where I do all the roomkeeper work here on YouTube so if you want runes to play a bigger role in your world go check this one out because it also expands on even if you don't want the RunKeeper class there are different runes that you could potentially put onto a magic item or whatever if you want to customize a magic item for your tables next one up we have another one of Benjamin's called The Scholar this is one that it's it's weird to call it a skill monkey but you are going to be embracing the interaction and exploration pillars of play more than I think other classes would this leans a bit more heavily into that and makes it like for combat light tables I think that this one would get a lot a lot of love there are some variants that I would endorse for right now that I think are actually pretty reasonable for play number one I would say that the investigator by Mike holik that's Mage hand press the link for that one okay all that stuff is going to be down in the description below and then the other one and then I think also still gets pretty close to this is the Savant by laser llama another renderer that people have tried to recommend me right now I'm most familiar with the scholar so it's the one that I'm personally kind of going with I think that the investigator could hit this same beat I've heard people in my Discord recommend this one and say that they've experienced it in play the investigator that is so I can see that it would have a niche somewhat I've also just kind of got it in my mind that it seems like it's the kind of thing that might be able to be handled by a rogue but I've heard people explain you know yeah Pathfinders got their own investigators so maybe there is territory for this thing to potentially open up into a small class you know the next one from there that I allow at my tables is actually the sculptor by Ross lizer so the sculptor is another Gish in a way that I think injects another interesting character into the magic system of your world in a way that I think Benjamin Huffman's Magus does the spell sword thing in a more classic fantasy way this one almost feels like I want to say video gaming but not quite you know I mean they're and the remaster Ross has literally got a buster like Mega Man Buster sculptor that you can make with this if you're looking for a class that can help to reshape what the magic system is for your fantasy world I think the sculptor is a pretty cool one it also feels a bit more modern than I would say the Magus does I I'm not really sure why but it just like I don't know it it feels like there may be some anime influence in here as well so yeah again personally like go with whatever your preferences but I do think that both of them sit at my tables and campaigns pretty well together and then you guys saw me do the layout work on this one hour so it's another one by Ross it's called the shaman um all the different shamans I've seen out there this one is probably my favorite uh this one is more based around if you're heavy into I want to prep for the adventure that's coming up you want to embrace ritual casting as a class mechanic you also get like a spirit guide that gets you other benefits like your magic your overall spell casting is shaped by sure you have your ritual casting but the different spirits that you can call can also give you different spells so you're if you're a player that really likes the prep and customization the modularity of a class I think he would really like the shaman if he took the time to sit down and figure out how everything's supposed to turn out the Vanguard was my experiment in trying to see how you can make just a pure pure tank tank class in this game I gave the Vanguard a D12 hit die heavy armor proficiency and not just proficiency with shields proficiency with Tower Shields you can dual wield them and get benefits and yeah so if you are interested in doing the like Marshall tank play style that's not relying on certain spells to get that across the Vanguard is a specialist of the ready action where you're using the ready action to try and seen in the middle of battle I always thought that the reason why tanking didn't actually work out all that well in DND wasn't because we weren't able to get like some hard taunt CC it was more so because of the way that the action economy fell and like if you're trying to be a tank the things that you're trying to prevent are happening off your turn so I tried to figure out a way to make that actually work out so yeah the Vanguard uh is still in Early Access but it's basically done at this point I'm waiting on artwork and everything but you can go pick that up over on my Shopify and then sitting next to the Vanguard is actually the warden by Mike holik available over there at Mage ham press this is one that I had been allowing at my tables and I still am fine with people actually taking it uh it feels like it's evoking a different type of tank than the Vanguard the vanguard's The Shield specialist the warden is still focusing on um more so like an area of influence from what I remember it's been about two years since a player has played this one I do like the warden quite a bit despite feeling like it probably does lead into that more sort of modern fantasy in a way but yeah the warden by Mike holik and mageham press is one that I would still happily allow at my tables the next one I'm going to recommend is actually the witch by wall Rock Homebrew that you can go pick up over on the DM's Guild for those of you that have been around the channel this summer know that like I was planning on designing my own witch because I hadn't seen a lot that I was really super happy with it just didn't feel like it they didn't feel like they totally hit my idea of what a witch really should be and I guess it was because I had misremembered what this one did part of the reason why I actually deleted my witch Channel over on my Discord and for those of you that are in the community you saw that uh here's why I saw this one and I guess I had misremembered what it did because as I went through and reread it I really like what this Witch is throwing out uh so much so that I think if I were to do a version I don't know how I would separate it totally mechanically identical like I don't know how I would separate the mechanical identity of it far away from what wall Rock did it Embraces all the classic I say tropes but I'd rather say like all the classic fantasy of what we've seen for witches and just so you guys know I have been trying to like do some research on like okay classic Witchcraft and I've got a few more books around here but I was really really adamant on yeah I'm I'm ready to figure out why a witch hasn't really hit quite right four or five e and I saw this one and I was like okay you know what I just forgot what this one did wall rock hit it pretty well so I'm happy to endorse some witch by wall Rock Homebrew go check that one out over on the DM's Guild uh links for all this stuff I have a PDF down in the link the description below that you all can go and check out all the links there and because most of them are linked with my affiliate link over in the DM's Guild you're also helping out the channel by giving me a little bit of a kickback here oh wait before we go anywhere I'm actually going to continue this a little bit longer because I have a few other classes on here I also want to recommend actually a few more categories on here I've got some more classes to throw out to you all just so you know I am looking around for other classes kind of actively because I think it's just fun to give people more character options so there's another category that I'm currently allowing for play test because these haven't finished their final design and some of my own classes are on here as well the first of these classes I'm going to recommend here is actually the Luchador and this is my Josh Pacheco I hope I got that right uh this don't genius pack here on YouTube uh he has been building this one out for quite a while now and I offered to help out with some Consulting work I really like what I'm seeing right now where this feels like the the classic Grappler you're donning different masks to you know adopt your persona and I like this one so so so much this may not fit into like every single fantasy world but having this as an option I think is still really cool to see um you know I think Josh as another creator of color it's cool to see guys that are just a bunch of like white nudes like knowing design work here's this is just me in editing right here and I just realized how as I was going through this what I was saying was a a Creator as in like another Creator in the space not a specifically a creator of color and implying that I was a creator of color I just realized in editing how that might have sounded so yeah I'm I'm an Irish student in Oklahoma anyways yeah and just wanted to make sure yeah I'm you know I'm really happy to see something with this much like cultural influence being adapted Faithfully by another Creator that's actually like been in that culture as well so yeah again that is the Luchador by Josh Pacheco uh it is not as far as I know there is a public design document out for it I like what I've seen so far um as soon as I think the subclasses really get out and all that stuff I think he's gonna consider publishing it over on the DM's Guild so yeah next one up I mentioned this one earlier but it's the psychic like Daryl Dominguez uh like I said this is one that may fulfill the fantasy of the psychic character that I have been looking for for quite some time I think that Daryl was rooting it a bit more into the classic Scion from like earlier editions so I will have to see but I like the idea of the psychic powers that he's got in there right now well I'll see eventually if whether or not that or kimbel's a Scion winds up being the one that I use in the long term the last class is on here that's not from me that I'm allowing because it's in play test is actually the weird by Haggard Clint uh this is one that is out there as a full document but I think that Clint has been making some changes to it kind of as it's been going along if you're wanting to inject something like more of a mutant or more of a like you know my hero Academia type uh sort of you are a martialist but you do have a particular power or Quirk or whatever this is going to be the class that I think is going to fill that out I've seen hackard Clint's work in the past I really trust his design sensibilities so I'm willing to allow my table to have this thing run on it to see just how it really turns out two classes of mind that as soon as I get a five level play test done I'm going to allow for play test it's going to be the Sovereign and the Zodiac The Sovereign is going to be the classic sort of ruler you want to play a prince or princess or a king or queen whatever this is going to be the class that I hope fills that Niche out the other one is the Zodiac that is embracing more of the cosmic magic sign of DnD where you can be more of like maybe an astrologer or I had thought that it would be funny to do this as potentially something of a like Sailor Moon magical girl transformation type class I haven't completely settled on that but I really like the idea of maybe doing that but yeah the Zodiac right now I just have like the first I think three or four levels mostly fleshed out um I like the idea that I've done so far of when rear casting divination spells as rituals you can get your spell slots back I thought that and I was like okay there's a class in there so the zodiac is one that I'm still kind of working out now I'll go through real quick the ones that I allow on probation because I know that they're out there and I just haven't seen them in play but I trust either the designer or I have seen it enough to where I'm like I'm one willing to see it play out but yeah I know these designers and I trust their design sensibilities but something maybe make me think like maybe it's a little bit complicated or I just haven't like seen it seen it you know uh the Craftsman by Mike holik this is made champ press this is what I'm considering for potentially replacing the artificial in my campaigns the Draco Night by Ross lizer again I just haven't really seen this one played out just yet the emergent also by Ross haven't seen it played yet the inventor by Kimball's tasty I've heard all kinds of reviews for this one I just haven't seen it played yet the investigator by my colic I had mentioned this one earlier uh the Scion by Daryl Dominguez is the one I had reviewed on here I think it might be a little bit complicated but I'm willing to see it played out the tarochi by Alex Tanner again the designer of the laser class yeah I have seen and heard people recommend the tarochi quite a bit I like the idea of a card based character class option I mean my Gambler Merchant class because I I wanted to make like a high variant die mechanic in there with a deck of cards so anyways I I seen it to rochi I've heard people say that it's not quite as complex as what I thought it was on my initial review so I'm willing to see it kind of played out uh the warlord by kibble's tasty is another one I've heard people recommend and then the war Mage by my colic or may Chan press and then I'll run through a couple here that I would at least endorse to say that they're probably all right for play but maybe I have a different preference or whatever uh The Alchemist my main Chan press is one that I would endorse as a full 20th level class the binder by main champ press Mike holik is a full 20th full 20 Level class uh it just that one hits on some of the more spiritualistic themes that I think the shaman territory kind of covered at least for me personally uh The Blood Hunter by Matthew Mercer is one that I'm happy to endorse now except for the fact that it's just not a lot of my tables because of the self-harm narrative uh the Channeler by Mitchell Turnbull this is awesome Soul over in my Discord uh the I will endorse Mitchell here because I'm seeing Mitchell's design work uh this is just another one I haven't quite seen yet uh the Gunslinger my main champ press preferential thing there the laser preferential thing there my my uh Alex Tanner the occultist by kibble's tasty is one that I would be willing to endorse but the subclasses cover up some territory that I allow for expansion into full classes so yeah uh the support by laser llama again kind of covered by The Scholar at my tables the spiritualist by Benjamin Huffman I feel like is kind of covered by the shaman and then the winch by majam press I I just prefer in the witch by wall Rock so anyways wow big video I'm sure so anyways thank you all so much for being here go check these out I've got the PDF down in the description below and hey if you're new here to my channel if you've seen a class that like you weren't aware like I'm sure there's like 50 on this list yeah so yeah please go check out these creators support their work let me know down in the comment section and if there's another class I should check out because yeah anyways so a huge shout out to my patreon sponsors thank you all so much for helping me keep the lights on around here and coffee in my blood y'all are absolute Heroes and hey if you all like what you see you want to see this kind of content go check out some of my other videos and subscribe if you haven't already we're running up on
