have that little bit of closure on the desk when you were able to present him with that and kind of shake his hand and have that be done uh he beat me back in 2007. I appreciate all the fights I had with them it made me a better man it made me a better fighter I appreciate the loss that I had I'm glad that he was an arrogant about it because it fired me up Cody's got this unbeaten record he's he's got all these Knockouts and they wanted to see him be able to challenge you for the belt did you think he was the correct matchup to make for you [Applause] I'm gonna break your jaw [Music] get in line I have to bet those are the people you fight in real life and those are the people especially you want to fight in prize fighting so he made it easy to fight this guy they haven't seen anything like you when they prepare and Camp they think they've got it down but then they step in the octagon with you and it's nothing like they thought it would be however do you feel like you're getting a good look at what Cody might bring when you have guys like Jeremy Stevens in your camp where all his Camp is focused on I'll eat what you have and hit you harder I'm stronger than you I'm faster than you positive think positive visualize have faith believe and I get that at but they do it so much that it's to ignorance and they give no credit to the opposition and the opposition has always been me where does emotion fit into this especially for him I mean I look at him and he's very emotional there's there's no other way to put it you can see it in the interviews he's mad he's angry I get that and I see it but for what I don't know I'm usually in suits for most of my media so I only need like a few outfits that's just very between what I'm wearing suits so it's really not bad I just try to bring stuff that I want to be seen I don't really care what any of that team thinks the thing I do know is they're feeding him a whole lot of lies to get him really bad round for Dominic Cruz not just from the punches that he got hit with but also from that headbutt John pushing forward he might be attempting to try to turn this into a grappling match if he can find some way to get Cody down because he got clipped bad in that round yeah that caused this big cut that is a nasty cups keep your chin down and that was weird but it happened and they're still talking two rounds to go good kick by The Champ a good counter punch by Cody I like how he keeps switching stances as well Mike [Applause] but again Cody can't get flat-footed now and he can't behind it one of the things about Dominic is he's not really a finisher I mean he stopped to kill mitsugaki in the first round in his rematch fight swarmed him look at this he knew eventually that he than you I mean most of the rounds do you feel that truth and that's how it goes in fights when you're Swinging with four ounce gloves and he was doing all this mental stuff and putting his hands down and everything did it get you no no that's what a fight is that's what this thing's about I did it back to him we were talking the entire fight you know I had this Target on my back since 2010 before that and then I came back and had this Target on my back it's all right let's see how Cody does with it um this is a hard game to win it's even harder to stay on top I was able to successfully do that for a very long time and new Cody garbrand is your new UFC bantamweight champion Cody obviously you've just been doing a ton of media you've got your belt here has it sunk in at all that you are now the champion I'm the world champion I'm champion of the world I've always believed in and self-believers who got me here but it's a great defeat you know to be able to finally have this strap and my hard work and dedication everybody that's helped me out along this journey so thankful for and I wouldn't be here without those people I know that you had told us earlier in the week you believed you were going to knock him out in the second round that's what you wanted but do you almost find a sense of really that you were able to show you can go five rounds you can go five rounds with the guy known as the cardio King I just got got caught up living in the moment enjoying it you know it was so much fun in there um it was great I had a blast I would love to do it again you know I want to give them the ultimate or immediate rematch run it back you know that was the best 25 minutes of my life so I'm gonna obviously a tough night for you tonight um what was tough about it walking away with the loss of course loss is part of life if you don't have loss you don't grow this isn't tough this is life was there anything he did in there that surprised you the hand speed the movement the the taunting was there anything that surprised you this happens but we're all competitors here and it's a game of inches um he beat me by a couple inches tonight and that's okay Cody garbrandt went into this being known as a power Striker was there anything about his power that made it more difficult for you to employ your your normal strategy than than any other fight that you felt and that's the thing that I know about this is you can be as smart as you want on the outside but when it comes into there it's still a scrap but I was there in the scrap too so the way I see it is I got the smarts and I got the fight of me so I'm still here and I'm still in it it's been almost exactly 10 years since you last lost what does it feel like I've lost before it has been a long time but I'm confident my abilities I'm confident in my mind I'm confident at where I stand with everybody else in this Division and I know Cody's good so uh the question I want to say is how long can Cody stay on top does it at all sting more because it's alpha male Cody knows I'm not out of this TJ knows I'm not out of this everybody in the division knows who I am and what I am and regardless of this loss if they fight me they better have their head on straight because I'm coming after them and is there any particular reason why you're not sitting down why would I sit down I'm always on my feet now you've had a little time to let it soak in uh just give us the thoughts on on how it played out tonight Dom makes a great Champion he's arguably one of the best Banning weights ever Grace the octagon and it was a pleasure going out there and testing my medal you know I had a lot of you know what-ifs and I I think I solved every one of them there were a couple times you really had him in trouble but you didn't over commit I mean was that was that the plan going in or did you just not necessarily see the openings for the Finish Well you know why not necessarily you know Rush all out for the finish I remember looking in the third round when he was had blood spewing down his face and uh like I said he was chattering back and forth with me the whole fight and I said you having fun yet and he didn't answer me and I knew right there that was my fight it does seem like uh TJ Dillashaw feels he's the number one Contender of course you mentioned his name in the cage afterwards I mean is that the fight that you think makes the most sense next and certainly you deserve some time to enjoy this moment but I mean are you already thinking about when a fight like that could take place and I would like to give Dominic Cruz a rematch and but it's ultimately up to UFC but I'm the Champion now I'm the badass dude in my division so I call the shots that's just normal for you you don't mind that you like the emotion of that but then Inside the Cage you were the one kind of taunting him and pointing at the cage and things like that I mean did you kind of feel that in that moment where all that kind of Trash Talk came back around where you were kind of having it inside the Octagon I knew what I was getting into with him I just knew I didn't get emotional and let his words and his trash talk you know give me emotional in there I know I had to stick to my game and my strategy and I knew I would take over I'm more dominant faster I'm the better fighter in there and that proved from one round the the fifth round and Dominic said that he's totally fine if Dillashaw fights you next he would not stand in the way and I think a lot of people would agree that de la Shaw would be next after Dominic do you have an issue with fighting delisha I've been the uncrowned champion even when dylasha was on the team you know and now I got this so anybody anybody in my division can try to take it from me
