good morning everybody gang here again from headwaters kayak shop behind me I have two of the most popular sub house and dollar fishing products that we sell and I thought it was high time we put them head to head to do a little comparison review it just so happens that I got Josh here from the shop he's up visiting this weekend we're gonna go do a little fishing and bring you guys along we hit the water I thought I would talk a little bit about the boats on the left here I've got the Crescent kayak light tackle this is actually my personal boat I've had for a while it's one of my top five favorite kites I've been doing a little video series if you've been watching the channel and this is what I choose to paddle for a you know sit on top fishing kayak but stable have to stand in it's got good rocker that I can take in lakes rivers I can just about do anything I want with it I personally really like the open deck layout and you've seen a video where I upgraded I put the deck pads in these aren't standard I added that and also you'll notice a new seat riser I just out of that and this morning James Deer back from a crescent kayak sent that over to me because that makes it match up better to the mokan 12/5 here if you look at the seat heights this one's about eight inches off the deck this one's about ten inches off the deck be very very comparable one thing to note on the Moke in here you get a little bit more bells and whistles when you're talking about the kayak so this was $8.99 this one here is $7.99 so a couple other things you'll notice is the seat the seat on the Moken is adjustable high-low the Crescent kayaks either has a low position or you can have an adjustable base to get it up high I'm gonna try that today and see how it feels but I do like the fact that that mokan is adjustable on the fly high-low this is a new seat for 2020 you've got an older Milkin 12 v you're used to that clip in seat so that was definitely a nice upgrade other things they upgraded they went to a sonar pod instead of that Center hatch I know some of you guys complained something offshore guys complain like that hatch but for the most part I've had very good response from people that just want an easy way to add sonar to their boat right so this pops open transducer bolts to the bottom fish finder mounts on top the wires go inside inside you have a nice spot to hide your transducer wires to tuck it in there your battery caride so definitely a neat thing that feel free does on most of there they're hiring fishing kayaks other features it's got standing pads here on either side reinforced with a little piece of plexiglass so stiffens up the deck a little bit where you're standing adjustable foot pedals front dry well this is the twist lock style dry well pretty watertight we take these in the ocean this is just we just under have this this is just a little things like this is rod tip protectors you can put the tipsy rod in there and slide the butt of them right there it's got these little clips on either side I'm sure Josh will be using this today because we have fly rods also comes with a couple of flush mounts beyond the seat a couple of cup holders really neat decent-sized tank well straps roof great built-in bungee over here in the Crescent similar size tank well real big lot of room and you have the bungee and these are on a track so you can adjust where you want your bungees to go or how you want that to fit you notice in the back of the Moken you've got to flush mount rod holders here you have to yak attack mighty mounts and you'll see when I'm fishing I'm actually have a yak attack fly rod holder that'll slide right in there so I personally like that I mean the flush mounts like that they were good for a net they were good for fishing rod but you're kind of limited if you use a yak attack you can adjust it to any angle you can have rods put it up you can down put it down you how much the side I personally like the versatility of that basically just two different style boats to suit your style you tell the Crescent has a little bit more girth to it it also has a little bit more rocker bow to stern if you look at the side profiles they're a little bit more up sweep in that bow opens a little bit flatter but it still has plenty of volume there we've taken this boat out to the coast a lot and has plenty of volume to lift you up over the waves is you're looking down on the boats you'll notice in the standing area the Crescent has a little bit more deck space a little bit more openness also a little bit more volume in the deck area they push the volume slightly forward in their boats so when you're up standing you still get the majority of the volume underneath your feet whereas the Moken the widest point of the boat is actually right here at the seat so this is most stable when you're sitting when you stand up you get a little bit narrower profile but as you'll see they're both pretty easy to stand up in as they sit the deck pads I believe are an extra $70 or so the seats an extra 50 or $60 or so the seat riser so it's it's right here I'm gonna call this one let's say like 950 I know it's not an exact price I'm gonna leave all the exact prices and details in the description yeah it's a rough and dirty a little bit less than 950 here this one is $7.99 as you see it literally just cut it open out of the packaging so a ton about a ton of value for that price but as always price only tells part of the story we really want to compare how these boats paddle how they fish how they features all feel is you guys a little bit of reference if you're looking at these boats online as to what might work best for your needs another subtle detail to notice is on the rear of this thing the Moke it has the ability to add a rudder the crescent cactus not they prefer to go with a square Stern so somebody if they wanted to could add a little trolling motor a little kicker motor to assist your paddling I'm not talking about it let's go hit the water hopefully we can catch some trout almost ourselves we got one other person look I got Josh back with me he came up brought some boats so uh I had him join me for the adventure today the festivities and he's gonna be paddling the Milkin twelve five of them I hop in the kresson maybe if some portion will switch maybe we won't we're more excited to fish than we are to film so we'll just get into and see what happens compartment your rod just seeps right in there on the feel for you josh has his clip didn't used as a panel clip and then the tip goes up in the tip protector there Josh so much time not having to do the old transducer over the side the chairs got to be nice upgrade from what you had before of course the open wasn't bad but now I got a little height adjustment yeah yeah well we're gonna go try it we're both using what we're comfortable with because like I said we're kind of excited to just go fishing so let's go get into it and what we can do keep her feet dry while we're getting in here it's really long shallow launch so this will be our first stability check I love the pattern Jack that was such a nice upgrade you do raise your center gravity up you get higher up in your weight rating you know 24250 etc you may notice feeling a little bit more talking but big buoyant secondary edges good even if it rocks it wants to confirm right up so for me the high seat is ridiculously easy no problem at all and again you guys just for reference I'm 6 foot 2 to 20 I'm definitely a light tackle man the ultra lights the fun boat to be in but it is definitely less stable it's not as forgiving I wish they would have like an 11-footer that was right in the middle it had this big buoyancy but was a little bit lighter to throw around and carry so Preston if you watch my videos maybe maybe one of your future kayaks look like that and also like a 13 and a half footer that could take you the ocean that's too bad to want it all this is a really good all-around about 12 and a half foot length or something I can go inshore offshore you can do a little bit of anything same with the mocha you heard Josh that that's a boat that he takes on the coast take on river flow someone calling me with me does a little bit of everything with it in fact we turned Josh on in the mo cannons the first time he had ever fished the coast with me he asked what he should take you know he's an experienced kayaker but I got this mocha mocha in the back like take it you know it's new I need somebody to test it out and we had it in some rowdy seeds I've never taken him through this slot at I'll be on big big sea stacks and a narrow channel and the ways were rolling in and he just was like all right I trust you we're going when we were just punching through these huge waves and ever since that day he became a fan of that Milken because it really is one kayak I can do it all there's not too many that you can stand up fish in a lake one day and hit the Salton X who fishes jumped at my flyer just as soon as I hit down something swiped at it you know people always want to go for the most stable kayak their first time around and what you find is that you buy your most stable kayak and then you kind of regret it because it's such a lug in the water and the two boats were testing out today are really both they're not the most stable thing you can buy but they're definitely the most versatile and they definitely are more efficient than most end up stable fishing packs on the market right now wait for the sinking line with hat wooly bugger downside is there's a lot of vegetation in the water right now already pretty early in the year to see this much vegetation so I'm headed down towards dam try to get into a little deeper water I'm not sure maybe josh is having more luck on the top water I should go ask how he's doing oh dude bald eagle just caught a fish right there did you see that I wish I had the camera pointing that direction that was absolutely incredible bald eagle 20 feet away from me just dug down Wingspread big white tail feathers out snatch the fish Sun comes up they go find a shady spot to hide let's go see if we can check in with Josh and see if he's had any luck you catching it yet he caught one what sighs okay I'll get him Jessie same thing we were manzanita like what a beautiful fish come on top water to drive that's always the best man because you saw him working it you cast it to him and you got and that's awesome nice dude dad yeah okay you got your kayak set up there you got your little net holder so it's quick access when you need it we have it mounted to a little was that a roto grip up there yeah and then in the center hats instead of using it as your sonar you see mr. your fly storage which works out perfect a little bit about leg length with Josh and he's like five foot nine and he's got about two more notches out on the foot pedals but if you notice on that seat there you can actually adjust the seat back a little bit he has it furthest forward for back support you can actually take that back a couple notches and get a little bit more room there too but I would say that that boat is better for someone six foot two and under it's you're taller you really would be better off something like this because you know I'm six-two and I still have well I see one two three four more notches I could go all right so it's getting a little frustrated with my yeah sinking lines so let's switch over to dry fly here and Josh had some lucky caught a couple of nice brown trout so far so hopefully we can find some rice and fish a costume here winds picked up a little bit so we're gonna head back over the band see if we wouldn't have any better luck over there it's actually pretty cool watching an osprey hunt we've got a fish then a bald eagle came down and swooped on I made him drop the fish alright after an hour to efficient in the wind here I think we decided more folks getting ready to head out so we thought we'd take a little time here at the end just to talk a little bit about the boats the differences being the light tackle has a little bit higher capacity a little bit more legroom the seat is adjustable but you have to have a separate base the Moken 12/5 is a little bit more versatile it has more bells and whistles that come standard with it a high-low adjustable chair also has a built in wheel in the keel little things like the cupholders behind the seat the tank wall straps the adjustable seat position all these things add value to the boat however I love that Crescent light tackle I think it fits a larger variety people it kind of takes me back when paddle sports was just simple elegant paddling crafts and I personally enjoy being in that one the most Josh on the other hand is a Milken fan through and through I think he's gonna continue paddling his 12 5 well thank you guys so much for hanging out and going fishing with us today until next time this is Dana josh wishing you happy paddling we'll see on the next one
