hey you guys what's up my name is Jason and today I'm going to be taking you through a quick little tutorial on how to create a cute a little game character so you can see here I already have done a little sketch and it was very similar basically made up out of a bunch of circles and then a couple of one so this doesn't have to be very complicated in fact the simpler you can keep your character design a bit better now let's go ahead and jump right in so now that I have this imported into Photoshop I'm going to go ahead and add a new layer and now I can go ahead and get started so first what I want to do is I want to start off by making my basic shape so I'm going to come over to my shape tool and then I'm going to go ahead and select a color so I want my fill to be more of a green color a little bit more of a greenish blue color actually I'm going to come into my aquatic sort of colors somewhere about there and I want it to be darker and a little bit more D saturated so somewhere about here down here should be good maybe a little bit lighter we'll head okay and then I'm going to go ahead and create that shape so I'm going to go ahead and click I'll go ahead and make a shape about the size of my head there and I can go ahead and click and drag that into place like so and if it's too large I can go ahead and shrink it and if it's not large enough you can go ahead and enlarge it next I'm going to go ahead and make the piece for the body so I'll go ahead and I'm just going to copy this layer by hitting ctrl J on my keyboard or command J if you're on a Mac I'm gonna go ahead and drag that down to the body and the body is a little bit smaller than the head so I'm going to go ahead drink that down and I'm holding down shift as I shrink it that way it keeps its correct proportion and it stays a perfect circle and also when I create my circle I'm holding down shift to create that perfect circle next let's go ahead and create these little stubby legs so we can do this two ways we can either brush it in or we can use our shape tool so I'll show you how to do it both ways so if I go ahead and take my shape tool and I create sort of an oval shape like so then I can go ahead and turn on my transform tool by hitting ctrl T or command key and I can right click that and come down to warp once they come to warp I can go ahead and I can bend the shape of my oval like so until I get to the shape of my little stubby leg all right we'll go ahead and hit enter yes so now we kind of have that basic shape next what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and shrink this down so using ctrl T again and then shrinking it down like so and I'm hoping down shift keep its proportion so shrink it down to about there enter and then I can go ahead and place that wherever I'd like now that doesn't really give me enough control so if you don't think that you're going to be able to hand paint the legs in you can go ahead and do it the way I just showed you but the way I want to do it is I want to go ahead and delete this layer then I'm going to go in there with a brush and I want to make sure that I have this green selected and then I'll go ahead and a brush in on a new layer my leg shape and I want to make sure I'm also on a hard edged brush and then I can go ahead and paint that in like so alright great so now that I have that leg I can go ahead and use my marquee tool to select that copy it and paste it so if I go ahead and use my transform tool and then right-click that and come down to flip horizontal or now I have my other leg I go ahead and hit enter then I can go ahead and place that like so and then I'm going to go ahead and copy this layer by hitting ctrl J and I'll drag that copy to the back and then using my transform tool I can go ahead and rotate that just a tiny bit and also shrink it a little bit just because it would be smaller because of perspective next I'm going to go ahead and add in my antennas up here and before I do that I want to make sure I drag all of these legs underneath my body layer like so so to create my antennas what I want to do is I want to do kind of like what I did with my feet the first time and so I'm going to use the shape tool and I'll go ahead and create a very long and skinny oval like so and then I'm going to go ahead let me drag that down so we can see it and I'm going to go ahead and use a transform tool to war--but so then I'll come to warp and I want to try to get this shape as best as possible now this might be a little bit difficult and we can always come back and reshape it resize it so just try your very best so what we want is we want it to be very skinny like so down here towards the bottom and a lot fatter towards the top all right perfect let's go ahead and hit enter so now we have the basic shape for our antennas now what we want to do is we want to go ahead and turn our transform tool back on right click and come to warp and now we can warp it again with a new blank slate so what we want to do is we want to add that curve in there so I'm going to pull that out like so let me try that again so I want to pull it from this edge and I can pull it from the middle and then I can push that edge all the way over to maybe pull that back in a little bit and then I'm going to pull this down a little bit down here all right perfect now I'm going to go ahead and hit enter and now I can go ahead and use this so if I go ahead and rotate it by using my transform tool and rotating it over like so and I can also shrink that down like so and actually I want that to be a little bit larger and if I pull it over like this without holding down shift you can see I can sort of warp the shape of it so what I want to do is I want to pull it over like this I'm going to go ahead and place that right enter and then I'm going to do the same thing on the other side by copying this layer dragging that copy over using my transform tool and right clicking and coming to flip horizontal and now I can go ahead and place my other antenna just like so now the last thing I want to add in here is I want to go ahead and add in the eyes so the eyes are going to be very simple shapes I'm just going to add in an orange circle so I need to come to my fill color up here and I'm going to come to my color picker and then I want to come down into my orangish yellowish colors maybe even a little bit more towards the orange side and we want it to be a little bit darker so somewhere in there I'll hit OK and then we'll go ahead and whoops we didn't want to fill that in with that so what we need to do now is we need to go ahead and select this color with our color picker so we have that color set aside right there and then what we want to do is we want to hit control Z so it changes that back to green and now what we can do is we can go ahead and come back to our shape tool we need to add new layer so that it doesn't affect this one and then we need to change our fill to this color down here now the way we can do that is by coming over to the color that we have set aside here and down here where this number is we can go ahead and copy that hit OK and then we're to go ahead and come back into our fill which it's already taking that color so now we can go ahead and use our shape tool to create the shape of our eye so it's just going to be a perfect circle like so then I'll go ahead and drag that down and I want to be very large because the larger the eyes the younger the character looks or the creature and the cuter they'll look next we need to go ahead and create this I over here so what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and copy this layer so I'll go ctrl J I'll drag that over like so and then this eye is going to get shrunk down just a little bit so just a tiny bit you can hardly even notice it and then what I want to do is I want to go ahead and shape this eye what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to select from here to there and I want to be an oval not a perfect circle and I wanted to go from top to bottom of this circle so now I can go ahead and get that into the correct position and then what I want to do is I want to hit control shift I to invert the selection then using my erase tool I'm going to go ahead and try to erase this says I can't because it's not rasterized so if I hit OK it's going to rasterize that shape and now I can erase that now you'll notice it's not erasing on this inside because it has that unselected so if we just go ahead and erase this side of it well now we can get our other eye and because of perspective we're going to see that rounded edge of the eye and it's going to be sticking out the head all right perfect so now we have both our eyes next what we want to do is you want to start adding in detail so first what I'll do is I'll start with the green skin so if I start with my head so I think this is my head layer nope see where that is there's my head layer I want to drag that up above all of my other layers except for my eyes and what I want to do is I want to add a new layer above it right click that layer and come to create clipping mask then I'm going to go ahead and select my green color and then I'll come in to my color picker and I want to make that much more of a yellowish greenish and I also want to lighten it and bring it a little bit more towards the saturate inside of things and it can maybe be even a little bit more yellow than that and what we're doing here is we're creating a warm and a cool color so the shadow areas are going to be this more blue color more bluish green and the warm colors or the highlights are going to be more towards the yellow side because yellow is a warm color so let's go ahead and hit OK then using my brush tool I'm going to go ahead and making sure I'm on a soft edge brush I'm going to start painting in a highlight so I bring up my brush size to about there I can go ahead and paint a spot like so now I can do that again and I can do that till I get it looking the way I want I think about there should be good next what I want to do is I want to move down to the body area so I'm going to come down to the body layer which I believe is this one right here and this one can actually be brought up right under the head and then what I want to do is I want to go ahead and do the same thing so add a new layer above it right click and come to create clipping mask and then I'm going to go ahead and do the same thing so add a highlight right there towards the top area now there's going to be a turtle shell on this character so there's this is some of this is going to be covered up but we still want to add it in next what we want to do is we want to create an even darker shadow some add one more spot of highlight in there and then I'm going to go ahead and select my dark green color and then what I want to do is I want to drag that up a little bit more towards the blues and make it a little bit darker and a little bit d saturated then we'll hit OK and using my brush tool I can go ahead and add in a shadow underneath this head so now that divides the head and the body quite well then I also want to add a shadow coming along the bottom or the top I mean like so so that way we'll get a little bit of a shadow along this bottom edge where the turtle shell will be hanging over all right great now let's go ahead and move on to the seat so I'm going to reflect this light green color that we have here and then I'm going to come down to my feet layers so starting with this bottom one in the back I'm going to go ahead and right click or start I'm going to add a new layer above that right click and then create a new clipping mask and we'll do the same thing again so using my brush tool and this you want to make sure your brush tool is brought down in size quite a bit go ahead and add in that highlight and I'm going to put my brush opacity at 20% by hitting the number two on my keyboard and then I can go ahead and lightly paint that in layer by layer so I'll just keep adding that in until I get it looking the way I want it about there should be good then I'll move on to my next leg so I need to do the same thing add a new layer above it right click come to create clipping layer mask and then I'll go ahead and add in that highlight like so and I like to try to keep the light highlights down towards the bottom and the darker ones up towards the top because we are going to add a defining shadow underneath here pretty soon then we'll add a new layer above our last leg right click create clipping layer mask and then I'll go ahead and add in the highlight and this one's going to be on this outer edge being as there wouldn't be much light being reflected onto the inner edge of our legs all right great now let's go ahead and select this darker blue color and then we're going to go ahead and start adding in our shadow here so I'll go ahead and add it right there and then I'll add another layer and maybe warm more like so and then I'll go ahead and also add that onto the inside edge and then I can come up to my next clipping layer mask for this leg and I'll do the same thing so I'll paint in right there painting right there paint in right there now I can paint in on this inner edge then I'm going to go ahead and do the same thing for the last one so I'll paint right there paint once more maybe one more layer and then I'll add some to this inner edge to add just some more shadow we can also come back and add some shadow onto the bottom of the feet that will also help to create some form and then I want to come back to my body shape which I believe is this one and I want to come to that clipping layer mask and add a little bit of shadow on this bottom of that shape just like so then I'm going to go ahead and come up to the head layer and I'll do the same thing so I'm going to add a little bit of shadow underneath this bottom edge just like so maybe add one more layer of that perfect and then I want to add a little bit of shadow underneath these eyes because these eyes are round and bulging off the head they're going to be creating a little bit of encash shadow underneath them so I'm going to go ahead and add in those cast shadows like so they're just going to hang down over the form of its face just like so alright perfect now lastly let's go ahead and move on to the antennas so the antennas are going to work the same exact way so first what we want to do is we want to find those antenna layers and then we're going to go ahead and merge those two layers together because this will make it much simpler and then we're going to go ahead and add a new layer above that right click and it create clipping layer mask and then we want to select this light green color and then we'll go ahead and add in some highlight along the top edge of our antenna get the other side also perfect then I'm going to go ahead and select my darker shadow color and I'll add that to the bottom edge I'm going to shrink down my brush just a little bit I'm going to go right along that bottom edge just like so and I'll get the other side alright great so now we have the basic setup for our character now what we want to do is we want to start adding in some more detail so I'm going to start with the eyes so if I come up to my first eye layer which is this one right here and I'm noticing we have a little bit of area we've got to erase up here that was behind the other eyes I'm going to go ahead and use my eraser and erase that real quick and I can't come back down to that layer and turn it on and what we want to do is we want to start by adding the pupil so I'm gonna have a new layer above this then using the color black and actually we don't want to use black we want to use a very dark red color because this will make our composition look much more interesting or not composition but our color scheme so I'm going to come to somewhere about there now I'll hit OK and then using my brush tool I can go ahead and make sure you're on a soft or a hard edge brush so come up to a hard edge brush and then I'm going to go ahead and add in a large pupil similar about oops somewhere about a a little bit smaller than the actual eye itself so I'll add that end right about there make sure your brush opacity is back up to 100% when you add that in perfect then we want to do the same thing for the other side but on the other side we want to add this on the new layer and we also want to shrink this down or squash it so we're going to use our transform tool and we're going to squash it horizontally like so because this eyes in perspective and so you're not going to get the same view of that pupil so we'll go ahead and enter like so our perfect so now we have both their eyes next what we want to do is we want to start adding in some reflective details so the way we're going to do this is we're going to go ahead and add a new layer above our orange layer then we're going to right click and create a clipping layer mask and now what we can do is we can go ahead and create a nice gradient within our eye so first I'm going to go ahead and select my orange color and then I'm going to go ahead and find a lighter version of that and more towards the yellows I'm going to come into my yellows and then I'm going to lighten that to about there and I'll hit OK and using my brush tool bring down the brush size making sure I'm on the soft edge brush then I'm going to go ahead and paint in around this bottom area putting my brush opacity at 20% so I'm just going to paint around like so and that starts to give us a really nice reflective look in our eyes then I'll go ahead and do this same thing on the other side so if I come up to my eye layer and we want to come to the orange shape layer then we'll add a new layer above that right click and create clipping layer mask we'll do the same thing so this bottom area gets some light yellow colors just like so and this black part of the pupil is looking a little bit funny to me so what I'm going to do is I'm gonna go ahead and stretch that out a little bit more so I'm going to come up to that layer turn out my transform tool stretch it out to about there and I think that looks a little bit better and more correct I'm also going to shrink it down vertically just a tiny bit because if you remember we also shrunk down the shape of our eyeball and so it should be a little bit smaller on that side next we can go ahead and come back to our clipping layer mask select our darker orange color and then we want to find a color that's more towards the red and is a little bit darker so we'll come down to about there maybe just a tiny bit darker and then we use our brush tool once again with a soft edge and we're going to paint in the area of our eye and around the top part of our pupil and then we can go ahead and do the same thing for the other side so it will paint in with that darker color just like so all right great next what we want to do is we want to go ahead and add a reflection to both these eyes so first we're going to start with this eye right here whoops so what we'll do is we'll add a new layer underneath it's clipping layer mask and what that does is automatically creates that layer into a clipping layer mask because it's below another clipping layer mask so now we can go ahead and drag that to the top and the reason why we do that is it's much quicker to do to create a automatic clipping layer mask than it is to right-click and create a clipping layer mask so now that we have that layer ready for us we're going to go ahead and switch over to the color white and then I'm going to go ahead and use my brush tool I'm going to create a gradient along this bottom edge just like so now might have been a little bit too much so I'll come down a little bit further so now we have a nice gradient from a light white to no color at all or transparency then I can also switch over to my erase tool if I wanted to and making sure I'm on also on a soft edge brush and I'm gonna bring my brush opacity down to 20% I'm going to go ahead and erase towards this top area just a little bit so the gradient doesn't come all the way up our eye next what we want to do is we want to go ahead and switch back over to our brush tool and using our hard edged brush you can go ahead and add in a reflection on this top area by creating a spot like so and you want to make sure that your brush opacity is at 20% now at this point you want to go ahead and grab it your pupil and drag that underneath your reflection layer like so then what we want to do is we want to go ahead and add in a really bright reflection so I'm going to add a new layer above this and then using my brush tool once again I'm going to bring my brush size down and bring my brush opacity all the way up to 100% by hitting the number 0 on the keyboard and then I'll add in the spot like so great now we can do the same thing on the other side so I'm going to go ahead and come up to my clothing layer mask for that layer add a new layer underneath it so it creates an automatic clipping layer mask drag that above it then I also want to make sure I drag my pupil in between the middle of those two and then on my reflective layer I'm going to go ahead and use my brush tool on a soft edge brush and then I want to bring my brush size up bring my brush opacity to 20% so we can get that nice little gradient down here at the bottom switch over to my race tool I can go ahead and erase a little bit towards this top area so we don't have the gradient coming all the way up and then I'm going to go ahead and switch back over to my brush tool switch over to a hard edged brush bring up that brush size to make this large reflection across the entire eye I'll go ahead and add that in at 20% like so and in this case you can actually make this a little bit larger and have only go halfway across the eye like so since you're only seeing a part of the eye then I'm going to bring my brush size down to the same size as this hard reflection right there and then going to go ahead and bring my brush opacity back up to 100% and then I'll go ahead and add in that reflection like so and about the same spot on the eye alright perfect so now we have our eyes they're pretty cute looking and what we can do now is on our to shape layers for our eyes we can go ahead and add shadows to them to make them stand out a little bit more so what we do is we come to that layer then we come down to FX then we come to drop shadow and then what we want to do is we want to go ahead and add a shadow that's pointing downward so we want to make sure that this little dial on the circle is at 90 degrees and we're going to go ahead and bring up the opacity and see how that looks and then we'll also bring down the size I'm going to bring the opacity down just a little bit more like so now I'll hit OK and that makes the that I stand out a little bit more let's do the same thing for the other eye shapes so we'll come to FX drop shadow and we're going to leave the settings exactly as we did on the other eyes so we'll go ahead and hit okay perfect so now we have the eyes for our character next we want to do is we want to add in a little mouth for character so what I'll do is I'll come down to my head layer so it's that one right there and I want to add a layer above my clipping layer mask so I don't want to paint with in my clipping layer mask I want to paint outside of that and I'm just going to add in sort of a little bit of a turtle mouth and I'm just going to hand paint it in so what I'll do first is I'm going to go ahead and select this mid color between this darker color and this lighter color so it's about there then using my brush tool and making sure I'm on a pink brush brush I'm going to go ahead and zoom in there I'm just going to start painting in the shape of my mouth I'm gonna bring my brush opacity up to 100% that's just going to be sort of a pointy type turtle mouth like so next what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and select my darker color and add some shadow underneath the edge of my mouth and I can bring my brush opacity down to 20% and paint this in layer by layer and that'll help it look more realistic because I'll have more control over my shadows and lights I'm gonna add a little bit of a cache shadow underneath the mouth like so and I'm going to go ahead and select this lighter highlight color and I'll start adding that to the top of my nose I'll just have that fade into the form of the nose next I'm gonna go ahead and reselect my dark shadow color and I'm going to add in a nose hole right there and a nose hole right there then I'm going to go ahead and reflect my highlight color find an even lighter version of that so come up to about there and then using my brush tool once again and making it very small on the ad and a highlighted edge along this nose on the bottom side and that will give it some more three-dimensional form I can also do the same thing along the edge of my lips I can add in a little bit of texture in there also so if I go ahead and add texture in like so sort of some lines or cracks perfect let's go ahead and zoom out see how that looks great so now we has a nice little cute mouth next what I want to do is I want to go ahead and add in the turtle show so before I do that I actually want to add in a layer behind my character since I don't really need to see my sketch anymore so above that sketch a lot a new layer and I'm going to fill that in with a dark grey so I'm gonna come down to about there it's about 3/4 of the way down towards my black and I'm gonna go ahead and fill that in with my seal tool so now our character stands out just a little bit better next I'm going to go ahead and start working on my turtle shell so I'll find where that body layer is so there's my body layer I want to add a new layer above that then using my brush tool I'm going to go ahead and brush in the shape for my turtle shell so basically and I'm going to start with this lighter color here and basically the turtle shell will come across like so and I'm painting still at 20% opacity so I can slowly add this in you usually don't want to paint at full opacity unless you know exactly what you want to add in and then we're just going to slowly start adding in my highlights a little bit at a time so the top of my show will be getting a good amount of highlight and at this point you can start changing your colors so my shell I want it to be a lot more green so I'm gonna come into my greens okay and then I can go ahead and start adding in my greens so now my show will start getting more green I want this bottom part or the I want this lid of my shell to be more yellow so I'm gonna come more into my yellows so come down to here and I want it to be a little bit lighter so I'll come to about there hit okay and then I can go ahead and start adding that in just like so then I'll switch back over my green color I want to make sure that's a lighter green color so I'll come to about there now I'll go ahead and keep adding a detail here and what I'm going to do from this point is I'm going to go ahead and speed up this process let go ahead and stick around and watch how I add in all the detail in the shell and the rest of the body you all right great so what I want to do lastly is I want to add in some more contrast into this by adding some darker shadows and some areas so first off I'm going to start with the bottom so first off what I want to do is I want to go ahead and merge all of these layers together so every layer that makes it my body the shell the tail and the body form and the highlights and shadows so I'll right-click those and come to merge layers so now those are all one layer now we did that on purpose because if you were to animate this character you're going to want to keep that all in one piece and you don't want it to be all broken up into separate pieces unless you wanted to separately animate them next what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and add a new layer above that right click and it create a clipping layer mask and then I'm going to go ahead and use my brush tool and switching over to a dark dark blue color so I'm gonna come to about there and then come down up into my blues it okay and then I want to make sure I'm on a soft edge brush I'm gonna go ahead and add in a darker shadow right underneath this head so I'm going to make it about the size of my head I'll go ahead and paint where my head is but it'll only show up over here on my body form I can go ahead and add in a few more layers of that like so and I'm going to change that from normal blend mode to let's try darken hmm let's try multiply alright and then we can go ahead and bring the opacity down and I'm gonna bring it down to about 72% maybe a little bit more so more like 63% and then we can go ahead and merge those two layers together so go ahead and select both those merge layers great now let's do the same thing down here for these legs so I'm going to come down to my legs now in this case we want to keep our legs individually separate that way if we need to animate this character we can animate each one of those legs by themselves so I'm just going to come down to there clipping layer mask for each one so there's my first clipping layer mask for my back leg and my back leg I just want to actually fill it in with a Dierker value so I'm going to put my brush opacity at 20% I'll go ahead and fill that in like so then I'll do maybe one more layer and I'm going to go ahead and add a dark layer right along that edge there and I'm gonna come down to my next clipping layer mask and I'm only going to add it along edge and I can add in a couple of those so I get it looking the way I want perfect then I'm going to come down to my next clip and layer mask on them do the same thing I'm just going to click a few times because my brush capacity is at 20% and I want to control how much of that shadow you see and that's why I'm having my brush opacity at such a low opacity all right let's go ahead and zoom out and see how that looks great now the only thing that I think could be better is if we add a little bit more form to this body and we can go ahead and do that by coming up to our body layer I'm going to add a new layer above that create a clipping layer mask and then I'm going to go ahead and paint a little bit of shadow along that bottom area that's going to just create some more form for us I'm gonna bring my brush opacity 10% bring up the size a little bit so we get a nice softer edge I'll just paint along this bottom edge like so another thing we can do to make this look a little bit more realistic is we can add in what's called bounce light and that's when light bounces off a surface onto another object so if I go ahead and select my light green color and maybe our bounce light is actually going to be a little bit more towards the red side so if I come down into my oranges like so and maybe it's a little bit lighter then I can go ahead and use my brush tool bring down the size a little bit and paint along this bottom edge like so and that will add in some very interesting looking bounce light to our character we can also do the same thing for our legs so if I come down into one of my leg layers so come down into this guy right here go ahead and add in a little bit of bounce light along that edge right there do the same thing for the next one so that way we just have some congruence between all of the parts of our body then this one actually is going to get on this side also even though it's in the shadow and that's the thing with down flight is it looks really good actually when you have bounce light on an edge that's in shadow and then you have shadow in the middle and then highlight on the edge all right then we also want to add a little bit of balance light up here on the bottom edge of this turtle shell so I'm going to go ahead and come up to that layer so there's my layer and using my brush tool and I'll just paint right on to this layer if you wanted to you can paint on a different layer so that you could delete it if you wanted to but I'm not worried about it so I'm just going to go ahead and paint that in along this bottom edge perfect next what I want to do is I want to go ahead and add a little bit of that bounce light to the face right over here and then I think our character design is complete we'll add a little bit of detail to the background just to make it stand out a little bit more so let's go ahead and add that bounce light into the face so I'll come up to it's clipping layer mask I'm just going to paint along this edge like so just like we did with all the other parts of the body we'll just keep painting seen that in layer by layer until we see it show up enough and we get it to the point where we want it I just want it right along this bottom right side edge of the face I don't really want to up here or on this side all right perfect now let's go ahead and add in some detail to our background so what I want to do first is I'm going to come down to my background layer add a new layer above it then using my brush tool and switching my color to the color black and making sure I'm on a soft edge brush I'll bring my brush size up I'm gonna paint a spot right in the center like so and I can do that a couple of times and that just helps my character stand out a little bit more now you might notice that we're getting these funky rings going around where we put in our brush spot but what we can take care of that is if we come up to filter and then we come down the blur and then we come down to Gua Jing blur well then we can go ahead and just blur that until we get to the point where we can't really see those rings anymore so about there should be good okay next what I want to do is I want to add a shadow to the surface ground area that way our character looks like he's actually grounded so I'm going to add a new layer above this one then using my brush tool I'm gonna go ahead and make a spot like so I want to make sure my brush opacity is at 100% and I can bring that down inside just a little bit so I'll put it to about there using my transform tool to squash that down to about there and then we'll go ahead and hit enter then I can go ahead and drag that right underneath my character and if I wanted to I could go ahead and stretch that out too so I will use my transform tool again I'll stretch it out to about there so we get a little bit underneath the head also and then we want to get that into the correct position so about there should be good and then I just want to add some floating glow spots around my character because I think that makes it look pretty interesting so I'm going to add a new layer at the very top of all of these then using my brush tool and making sure I'm on the color white and you want to make sure on a soft edge brush when you do this I'll bring down my brush size to about there I'm just going to add in a couple of random glowing spots around my character like so you don't want to add too many and you want to keep them random so that I won't write down a race that because I don't think it looks random enough and I might even add in a larger one so it might add a large one right there there might be a little bit too large so I'll bring my brush size down add one right there um placement is very important if you want it to look as random as possible alright that should be pretty good next what I'm going to do is I'm gonna come down to effects come to outer glow and then we're going to add a glow to this so we can make the glow whatever color we want in this case I'm going to make it a yellow I'm going to come all the way to a saturated yellow and I'm going to bring up my opacity and then I want to change my size so I want to bring my size up to about 81 pixels and this depends on how big your document is so you'll need to play with these settings yourself and then we can play with the speed but I want my seat speed 0% like so and then I can bring down my opacity just a tiny bit I'm gonna hit okay so now all of those glowing spots have a nice yellow glow to them and I think it's done all right great I really hope you enjoyed this tutorial if you wanted to you can go ahead and spend more time on detailing things out such as the mouse or the shell but I didn't want this tutorial to go on forever my name is Jason and thanks for watching this tutorial if you enjoy the tutorial
