yeah we are okay all right hello good to see or see your chat names anyways really good oh yeah i made a banger today hi how are you joy i'm just gonna wait until a couple of people get in here before i uh i fully start to anybody who's watching this um on youtube afterwards just fast forward maybe a couple of minutes i usually wait a little bit before i start uh hey reaper how are you we've got in the cup today a iced chai tea but you cannot be sitting right underneath my chair like that all right you doing good yeah i'm doing pretty good too even though you didn't ask kidding um yeah so uh just gonna wait for a couple of more people to jump in i haven't really been streaming um a whole bunch lately i've been super busy but hopefully uh hopefully everything is still working fine and my audio is not like freaking out or anything i have to test a whole bunch because i have another i just keep moving stuff around all right anyways um for anybody who doesn't know uh or familiar with the streams here on the pixel channel that i do um i'm ashley i'm a character and creature concept artist and just you know uh concept sculptor in general so what i like to do on this channel is i like to just kind of have fun and um play around with a bunch of shapes and just sketch these these are not really intended to be final products something that you can print it's not meant for that it's not meant to go in a game or a film it's just purely conceptual just sketching like that's all it is it's just for fun uh so if you have any questions while i'm doing this feel free to ask i'll you know be saying things as i'm going but if i you know do something that you don't really understand what exactly i did or anything like that just make sure that you ask me and i'll do my best to answer um well yeah it's not really like a tutorial session or anything like that just like a chilled back hang out you know work on your own stuff we're we're here for like four hours right so i'm an aquarius am i an aquarius try again i don't i don't honestly i don't know very much at all about astrology like i don't i don't know hey sergio hey light so hot tubs are now their own category a monty hot tub stream yo he'd be terrified he's he really doesn't like the b word i did joy yes i did yeah it's good to see you too frank okay can i like this is really far away no i guess it's for the best hey alex all right i'm gonna get started i don't really know what we're doing here um man i have been so insanely ridiculously busy and i'm gonna be honest with you guys a little bit like burnt out from like work and stuff too so i'm actually pretty happy to like be getting back into like sketching mode here like of like just really random like whatever we want you know work is its own thing where we're gonna be you know doing stuff based on like whatever it is that the client is uh kind of asking for but here we get to we need to do our own thing very it's a little bit like a snake last time probably won't stay as a snake um and also just as a forewarning i like to push these uh crunchies like i won't be dynameshing for a little while that's usually how this this ends up going oh that's still very intense the snake was awesome i'm glad you liked it honestly it was um well i'm not gonna lie i was a little embarrassed by it like i'm really happy that you liked it i just feel like it's one of those things where you look back on it and you're like yeah if i if i took a little bit slower i could probably have done a little better on that but you know i haven't seen camp cretaceous no is that the uh the animated um jurassic park uh kids show or am i mixing that up with something else yeah it is yeah i haven't seen it i just seen um i've just seen little bits of uh little little snippets here and there is it wrong that looking at this you see a snake with lips staring at his very voluptuous mouth snake [Music] ah who short lived and disappeared immediately yeah i mean things are it's literally this it's always the way that it is with these sketches it'll like look like something and then it won't look like anything anymore and then it'll look like something else it's like like i don't really like know what it is that i want to do i just kind of want to like push shapes and see where it goes which is exactly what is happening here just pushing pushing pulling blah blah blah trying to get like a cool silhouette little shape so i like to stay really like low poly for a little while before uh before really getting into details because then you can then you can start playing around with like just mean shapes when you're doing stuff like this and you don't have any idea what it is that you're going to do so when you have like literally no idea what it is that you want to do just putting in super basic forms helps a lot and it's it's actually interesting the more you play like this too you're going to be like oh crap like i didn't realize i could get so much so much so much of an interesting shape with just something so low bali you know you're just low poly sculpting man little polly sketching and go with that like kind of triangle shape here making sure that everything kind of flows back and up make sure that he has like a and has like a cranium as well that's something uh you know the back of monsters heads a lot of new sculptors like new monster creators forget to kind of create the brain space essentially a lot of the time the eyes are a lot more a lot more forward setting than you then you assume and there's a lot more back here too what's the tablet i'm using i am using a intuos or no i'm not not don't lie actually no i'm not i am using a cintiq 22 hd wacom cintiq 22 hd but what i was going to say my brain thinking a little bit too quickly is uh the wacom intuos pro medium is a great tablet that i still occasionally use it looks it's just like it's over here like if i'm if i'm working in maya at the same time as um oh my all right i gotta clean it though but yeah it's like right here um if i'm working if i'm working on maya or in maya then i'll usually like be spinning and going back and forth from maya to zbrush i'll probably be using that instead of my cintiq have my neck pain from this tablet um yeah occasionally i actually had to go to physio for a while but it wasn't really like just this tablet's fault i had uh it was because i was working out um i was working out a lot before corona hit the the pandemic you know that that thing um then all the gyms closed and i stopped working out and i kind of assumed that i could use my arms the same way all the time but i couldn't because i wasn't as strong anymore and then i ended up messing myself up really bad like messed my shoulder um so [Music] so you know using using the tablet along with like that decline in muscle mass is not really a great thing but the the the best thing that you can do though is uh maintain good posture while you're using i have a little sticky note a little sticky note telling me every single day yo your posture fat belly be careful i actually believe it or not um i lost a ridiculous amount of weight during karate that's because again like i was saying uh when the pandemic before the pandemic was here i was actually eating a lot more because i was trying to gain muscle mass and i was doing pretty well too and then uh and then i started working out and it just like it just disappeared it was just like okay i'm a noodle again we make it look so easy is dude you understand like how long we've been doing this for though i promise you that if you were doing like if you were sculpting as much as we have to sculpt you you would be making it look even easier all right let's uh split that guy yeah with the mess being this is what i mean right like i don't really mind it being all crunchy like this because you can start to get like if you were to dynamesh this right all of this information stays and you're getting like free folds it's free real estate man have i done any irl sculpting yeah yeah i've done irl sculpting i don't have the space um like i do have like this whole room right but i don't really like have because i wouldn't want to like leave clay in here with monty because like if i go out somewhere um or he's just like too scared he stays in this room right because this is his like safe space so i wouldn't want to like put claim this is like the only place that i like have space for something like monster clay or plasticine or anything like that so i it's not really ideal right now but i would like to get back into it at some point there's just there's something great about just being able to hold the clay with your own two hands and do stuff you know it's kind of like when you get frustrated drawing in photoshop or something like that you just i don't know i don't know if this is like the same thing for any of you guys like anybody who does um uh 2d like you know drawing or painting or anything like that but like when you're getting like frustrated like it's not working in photoshop do you ever just like take out a piece of paper and like a pencil or your sketchbook and just start doing it there just because it feels better and it feels like it's working better it's kind of like the same thing like i i feel like if uh if you just have like your hands doing it instead of like on a screen it just feels they're it it's like a refresher i think so i would like to have that eventually that irl um sculpting again just to to feel the forms again i don't know you you can get the the same idea in zbrush but there is something uh special about irl sculpting no symmetry modifier though so it's more than a mood and have yeah so it's a like it's a thing right yeah you do that it it's funny right and it's not even a bad thing too like when you're like frustrated with something to just switch to a different medium because your brain does need that little bit of a refresher um the you know and then if that doesn't work then you step away from a little bit but always come back to it i think like the the worst thing that you can do when you're getting frustrated is just quit it tried vr sculpting it's not really for me it's too slow now to be very specific about your forms and things um i'm a little bit of a hectic sculptor if you can't tell i really like zbrush for that uh it's just sketching and zebra is just it's very freeing the air sculpting is very um there's there's an upwards limit of like poly count from like it's it's fun don't get me wrong it's fun but also the headset starts to hurt your head my neck is not as strong as it used to be like my neck doesn't have any more gains man i need to start doing like barbell lifts with my cause like the headset just like oh man what am i sculpting today i am sculpting a monster of some kind oh yeah gravity sketch is cool it's nothing like zbrush though it's it's a completely different workflow all right it's it's a lot like i've i have already tried that actually here um also after this i'd like to keep the combo to zbrush related stuff just because it's pixlogic's channel but i have done so i took this to zbrush afterwards here relax um here so i did this in in gravity sketch um and then i brought it over to zbrush just to do a little bit of clean and then i rendered it in key shot because the thing is like gravity sketch is fine and all but like it is more for like product stuff but you can do like hard surface like quick block outs and things i just think that like if you want to do anything detail related you don't do that in gravity sketch that's where like zbrush is just it just is better and also again you're running into that problem where the headset is on your head and so damn heavy like okay like good good for give for you if um you have like a hulk neck that's wonderful but i don't need a hulk neck to be using zbrush though that's uh all right what am i doing i wanted to dynamesh this guy so if you want to fix that by the way see this when this happens um you're probably like oh god i've had that before i don't like swiss cheese like cheese cloth mesh it's gross what the heck happened just undo it all right yeah your mesh is probably really gross and the reason why that's happening is because it has a lot of non-manifold geometry okay so how you fix that very easy you go down into your tool palette into the geometry tab down to mesh integrity right here actually is this wait no what was the uh is it control m no i can't do what was the uh the the zoom the zoom but i don't know anyways mesh integrity is right here and then you just fix mesh and now you can just dynamesh voila oh yeah you liked my jack-o-lantern you know what's funny about that is um that jack-o-lantern was my uh was my jack-o-lantern that i carved like in real life um when i was living in toronto and it was just on my windowsill for a whole like extra year afterwards it ended up looking like that it literally ended up looking like that and so i just resculted it in zbrush afterwards inflate won't fix um inflate so inflate is yeah it's fine i was using inflate on this but you just do fix mesh if you run into the cheesecloth problem and you're good uh what did i did i miss stuff am am i creating random imagination animals always like creature you more dynamic zbrush play yeah i'm just doing something like kind of random um you know just playing with like different shapes thinking of like you know how skulls can fit underneath things or whatever it's uh uh yeah and and dynamesh is definitely going to come into play later on but i usually work pretty low poly while i'm doing sketching just because like it keeps things really simple it depends on what kind of artist you are too like when i'm doing these kinds of sketches i i like to work low poly because i like to think in bigger shapes and forms [Music] so on is uv unwrapping hard to do in zbrush no it's actually pretty uh straightforward um there's a uv master here i'm not going to get into all of it but it is very like straightforward stuff um you can create seams with polygroups and using the cut feature like so if you were to do like slice curve you can actually create um different like poly groups and and then basically you can uv islands based on that kind of stuff so if you want if you want a more in-depth look on the uv tools in zbrush you can go into zclassroom.com c classroom will be very useful for you let's put some eyeballs in this guy and do some a little bit larger eyeballs i think normally i go pretty tiny i think that could probably uh balance [Music] hmm hmm um yeah any any tablet will be good it's fine to use x-pen if you want to i have not used it but people say that it's perfectly fine so you might as well believe them if it's if it's cheap enough anyways you know i don't like this um you know when you're just starting out though i wouldn't like like if you if you don't really like know if if art is really something that you want to do you're just doing it as a hobby do something a little bit on the cheaper side you don't need to do a on-screen tablet you could actually do something that's more of like a desk tablet it's also a lot more ergonomic um the screen tablets are very brutal for your back if you're bad with your posture i'm gonna delete these append let's grab that and put in a cleaner tooth here let's do like really long teeth maybe [Music] hmm kind of like a walrus but hopefully we can make it look more um bad but because i can't cuz so i say bad but [Music] mm-hmm vampire walrus yeah pretty much pretty much that i mean this is going a little further than vampire and going into straight like skewer your art what's my dog doing how's my dog doing your dog's getting bigger that's awesome yeah might yeah munch is doing good i mean where is he yeah are you hurting that oh he's in his uh he's in his crate he's just chilling in his crate he likes his new teeth yeah bro yeah you don't need you don't need to get a on-screen tablet if you're if it's your first tablet okay let's do some body body work buddy buddy buddy buddy buddy work i'm gonna make all of this a little smaller in the scene because then dynamesh and the brush will react better personal preference you do what you think works best for you um what am i sculpting brother nice uh i do i don't know man i i really don't know right now like it's very walrusy right now but we'll see let's do like a a cat ribcage sort of deal [Music] your first tablet was a picasso i've never heard of the picasso before 99 okay that's that's probably why i never i didn't even have a tablet at 9.99 do you recommend snakehook better than move tool i like snakehook because it moves it faster and more like all over the place so that it depends on what kind of an artist you are if you like to be more precise about things um and you don't really want to like drag things off into outer space then you don't need to use snake hook i just like that there's not really like that averaging functionality of it it just has like you know you grab something you just keep moving it right whereas the move tool it kind of like averages itself and uh and does everything based on the fall off of your brush to a maximum point do i have a creature referencing you look at you just using your mental library mental library i mean like i have a lot of anatomy references all over my desk and stuff right like i i have a lot of like a lot of stuff a lot of stuff i've got a whole stack of books here like i but when i'm on these streams and i'm just sketching yeah it's like i'm literally like going right out of out of my head because it's fun to just do that sometimes you know and you're not always gonna get something that's anatomically like super sound but again whatever like you're sketching and you can always go back and fix it if you really like what it is that you're working on right [Music] where oh i think i gotta move all these guys that's fine flip it back up into the row there we go back into the middle of the scene what's my favorite thing about zbrush um the fact that i don't have to like worry about poly count at all while i'm sculpting and having fun and designing is a absolute massive positive for me i i like i really hate having to think about the technicalities when i'm designing i like to deal with that afterwards like that nightmare hey what where'd you go come back here yeah [Music] actually we could probably do something like really intense here grab this entire thing we get all super attached why not then we can grab these make them neck muscles too yeah screw it why not [Music] [Music] um oops i'm gonna give that like some scapula action probably pull this rib cage thing out more [Music] oh and another thing too um might help with your your creature anatomy stuff so for the longest time i had a problem with this like when i was first starting my creature work is the rib cages on like dogs and horses and cats and stuff if you notice like i don't know if you can really see here but in order to have the leg like have room for movement the stern i guess it's a sternum right the sternum i'm really bad at uh uh names of anatomy things but i know i know how they work and stuff i could look at it visually and and tell you what the thing attaches to the thinking sternum right um so that whole area it actually where the armpit is the armpit translates into the shape of the sternum for the rib cage so that you have room for these legs to move same with the back part of like the horse and stuff right here right so you see where the rib cage is and that gives it that room right here right and then back here or in front okay you can't really see i'm i don't know it's a little bit thinner off of the rib cage right you can see the overall ribcage comes out uh in the in the very center part and the front area is a lot smaller and so then that that's where a lot of that like wideness comes from is like the absolute back and then it does like this sort of like peanut shape just to make sure that your stuff moves yeah thanks lauren thanks frank hey devine how are you doing it's walrus whisperer my god um i hate worrying about if i have enough polys though then dynamesh or level up stuff you shouldn't have to worry about that that much just think of it try to think of it in more simplistic sense right like do you have enough to describe what it is that you need to describe so for me right here like this is at the stage where i would dynamesh but because i haven't blocked out the rest of my um creature i'm not touching that right now i'm just leaving it there and everything is going to be matching that stage and then i'll start to dynamesh things right and if i find that you know i've gotten another level of detail from that first dynamesh stage and i need more information then i will re-dynamesh at a higher level or like if it's still low enough anyways but if you're like at like a million or so police for your dynamesh already then maybe you want to duplicate your mesh do a z-re mesh and start working in subdivision levels right depends maybe you want to cut your mesh up a little bit more hey chomsky how's it going um george i honestly don't know how to answer your like zbrush learning compared to other software's question because i learned zbrush faster than everything else but that is a not the same experience that everybody has so it really just comes down to how you learn and i learned it faster because i got really hands-on with it with other 3d softwares it feels like you don't get as hands-on so it depends on what kind of a learner you are right um i learn things and absorb things a lot quicker if i'm doing them and carrying out the tasks so the fact that like i literally got into zbrush and started sculpting it was easier to learn for me than other 3d softwares um substance painter was another one as well like i was able to pick it up pretty quickly because it's very hands on whereas like entire 3d suites i find harder for me to learn because there's just so much and so it's very like you have to be very specific about what you pick out and choose to learn um when i'm doodling what lines are am i looking for in design language what resources and advice would you give for someone that's starting to doodle honestly the biggest thing like right off the bat pedro is have fun doodle something that you really like to do and the biggest thing is to just like not be super concerned about is it good you want to be having fun doodling is about having fun and letting yourself be um artistic and not worrying too much you know if you like how a design is working then you can always go back and fix it afterwards you know add you know better anatomy and reference other things to make sure it's more functional but you're first first and foremost you you really want to be having fun and doing something that you want to do um another thing is lines is you can see there's a little like i i have this up here for just you know occasional reference i don't use it too much but it's really great for streams so you can see like silhouette like what's going on so you know just like looking at the silhouette of the head you can see that there is a flow to the top of the head that's sort of what i'm looking for and every single one of these lines is a breakup of that so when we're talking about design i'll just do this really quick because this is a very basic thing um so overall shape right that's the overall line but when you have things like that um depending on the style that you're going for breaking it up is usually really nice now when you're doing breakups so this would be secondary forms right so this is the the primary form is the red the blue is the secondary so here we break up break up break up so it's still that but now you're adding a little bit more complexity now if i were to do this again right like let's say i wanted like another layer of complexity all of these uh wait why is this so big no give me a tiny tiny pen tiny pen thank you so if you were doing another layer of complexity you would do even tinier right tinier breakups right and so it's all still following the same thing um but you're you're getting that like you know complexity in your design while still maintaining strong strong shapes strong forms um what's another thing i was trying to think of something i was gonna tell you about this in a completely space because my memory has just been absolutely fried lately uh okay does that help whatever if i remember i'll tell you i don't really know uh are we trying to find the best program to give us more options we're trying to just make a single quick player game that we can enjoy and make fun okay if you want like an all-encompassing thing zbrush is not all-encompassing software it's for um sculpting and more of like the design aspect uh very very specific to like i mean like the toy industry it's huge jewelry industry it's huge um anything printing related uh character art for film and games but you know you don't have rigging you don't have animation in zbrush so if you want something all-encompassing you're not gonna want this newts you should be able to answer that question for yourself i don't know if you're just trying to bait me or anything right now but like nah dude no the cringe am i making you cringe sorry i am cringing carnate that pokey no it's um iced tea [Music] me hmm binge that off the hinge cringe it's beautiful nice five most important tools in zbrush in my opinion game changers snake hook um stick of dynamesh by mirin weld but like actually like zbrush tools like say snakehook live boolean dynamesh um you know what i would say oh i would say that uh that sculptures pro is also that and lazy mouse did i say five or did i say poor oh yeah i am in foot i am in foot yes how could i forget oh how could i forget my gosh thanks for keeping me honest yeah let's turn perspective on so that we can get like oh you know what i just realized i do way too much as i start sentences and then i don't finish them how do you guys stand me i really don't understand how you like deal with like anything that i'm trying to say frank how goes it oh it's delicious i'm sorry for screaming hi tomas how are you guys um i was talking about jewelry making earlier and printing and all that fun stuff tomas is your man your dude your homeboy your guy contact your hookup what are some other things he also streams here on uh on the fixedlogic channel you should definitely go and watch his streams and he does like a lot of uh what is the word i am blanking on liter today is like tip of the tongue day critiques he does a lot of on stream critiques he's that guy exactly he's the guy you're not annoyed yet oh you just wait you're just waiting you you'll be like dude can you stop like starting and stopping and starting and stopping your points like what are you doing hey click don't shame okay don't shame i am in foot people don't do that just accept it it's a thing dude did i just stop a thought again dude oh my god i can't i can't ah do we wanna it looks very walrus in the front but near not as much [Music] [Music] good [Music] hmm the music is annoying does it okay don't mess with me it's not going off and on stop starting a sentence and then no am i doing that i actually don't know i forget immediately what i was talking about like actually don't mess with me like that why is it when you sculpt on a thin mesh and then dynamesh you get weird holes all over the sculpted area why is back face masking under the brush menu on all the time white isn't so the reason why it's not on all the time is because it affects different brushes differently you don't want it on all the time it will it will genuinely mess up your other brushes like snake hook and stuff you don't want it on for example right um but yeah just use back face masking for that other stuff for the thin meshes would you say try mini core free first or get oh i have my wait what oh my god i just realized i was on my own i was at my own stream i was uh i was on my own stream um scene on obs and not the fix logic one this is pride i am my brain dude bro streamer whatever sorry kyle oh man where am i from i am i am from the canadiana's where's the cup you want it oh yeah it's because uh i was doing ice street today bro so dumb man oh my god i forgot to change that over i'm so sorry kyle oh well no am i seriously okay like actually for real am i my stopping sentences do i use live stream on twitch and when um yeah i stream on my own channel but i haven't because i've been really busy would be nice to get back to it but i've been like stupid busy so all the years of streaming has burned the stories out of her i don't do i i don't say sorry as much do i i say i say it more meaningfully now i'm less canadian aren't i i've assimilated what am i doing okay let's go come on come on come on skill so i'm ready what am i doing what am i doing don't be pathetic [Music] hmm [Music] hmm ah why is that still happening i switched why is it still happening stop why okay whatever uh do i have a street screen protector no i don't it's the um it's the 22 hd i don't need a screen protector because i don't i'm not super happy handed [Music] um do i listen to any bands of course but on these streams i gotta use copyright free stream safe music am i watching the playoffs no i don't care sorry hey louie how are you what if it were half polar bear half whale then it would be half polar bear half whale make a demon tusk course kind of looks like that so far maybe probably not hello fancy name that i cannot read i've always had a problem sculpting person and watching and wanting to post and then while still sculpting i couldn't figure out the symmetry um so like while like you're sculpting you want to pose like there you either like sculpt it in symmetry and then pose afterwards um or you just sculpt out of out of symmetry like yeah excuse me wait can i do settings here appearance hold up why is it looking so weird on the side over there hello chat what's going on pro streamer by the way like for real why is this giving me okay whatever excuse me versus sorry who wins um sorry definitely more story counts [Music] um i'm going to take all of this grab this part of the neck yeah i gotta take that lazy mouse off of this this is milk i don't like lazy mouse out there oh give me that lazy mouse whoa the life we knew uh lazy mouse alone is doing his best i mean he's kind of encroaching on my blow so i would have to say nope i will not leave him alone he's being a jerk sorry buddy [Music] the life we knew yeah okay let's get the uh the pecs in there hooks oh no we're gonna get copyright because i sang something by accident my bad it's greek oh your name is greek my bad yeah i can't understand i can't this is a very interesting text like a font very interesting font that's why i'm like i don't know what that says uh sorry not sorry that's like such a i feel like i feel like a lot of people have that as a catchphrase fake streamer can't read greek hey luke how are you doing what's good oh wait luke yes luke is also a streamer on the pixel logic channel go and watch his streams he just started streaming like was it this week or last week for the weekend i don't know time is a blur time is a construct i don't know go look at luke and don't ask there we go definitely do that listen to me [Music] up we're gonna stretch the ever-loving crap out of this trust me trust me trust me trust me just trust me firstly that's the way that it goes is okay i'ma think i'm gonna do it more i'm gonna mesh this with the body and i think that that will [Music] get easier for me right now because i need to like change proportions since i'm still trying to figure out what exactly it is that i want to do here and he's got too much of like a room for my liking nope nope nope hmm okay how about how about how about how though yeah there we go yes oh hell yeah all right okay this is gonna go somewhere it's gonna this is gonna do is gonna do things this is good you're gonna be great trust me trust me it looks stupid right now but it's fine you don't you don't have to worry about how the dominant looks right now just have to you just have to trust that booty is booming yes sir it it certainly is [Music] okay now we're up here do i have any favorite video game in terms of creature design oh man uh creature design for video games so i'm not like i'm not a souls player but i do really love the design of dark souls but i'm not like i'm really not a souls player so it's like i just look at the art book um oh my god everything's kind of like evading the way that like i'm thinking right now i honestly should have like a list of these like questions with these generic answers on them just like well what's your favorite this what's your favorite that so that i could just like oh i'll pull it up from my list and i'll just answer that way because i always forget when somebody asks me live like ah brain no ricky hey luki stretch polly's make you uncomfortable you wake up in the middle of the night you turn on your computer smooth the stretchy polish out and go back to sleep then i'm not the streamer for you my friend i've got some bad news i got some real bad news copyright a cubed please don't please don't my personal channel already has one strike on it from like a clip like ages ago i had to delete everything off of my channel it's ridiculous poppy oh did you see it did he show up crazy [Music] okay fine i won't bother you she's okay whatever preferred software for rendering a final character or sculpt marmasat marmoset maya keyshot photoshop um when i'm doing like anything conceptual my favorite has always been keyshot and then i send keyshot stuff over to photoshop and i paint the heck over it because she's a concept just fine who am i excited for in the new loki series um i'm ready to be canceled by all marvel stands but i just really don't care the best let's do x out like that i like these like bowed legs here i think that's kind of fun i think we can actually make this pretty creepy looking but i do have to like make the uh and i need to make the head area bigger and then sorry not finishing sentences and then i'll make the legs smaller or smaller but also [Music] uh yeah yep okay that's good and now i gotta grab the rest of his body buddy buddy buddy buddy buddy buddy buddy grab grab grab grab and do a little bit of that and a little bit of this [Music] actually we could probably start splitting off the neck yeah i'm going to split off the neck from the head here for sure sure for sure for sure i'm gonna split that partially hidden okay i'll just delete it no big deal i don't know what i deleted no big deal split masked and then we can uh fill by closing the holes closing holes i'm gonna yeah i'm gonna save this because i haven't saved in a little while actually at all probably a good thing to do so let's go to 142 skulls i from hawaii oh like hawaii hawaii is that how you say it my bad i don't care for marvel i know what an outrage i suck i'm sure it is it's just like there's just so much of it i it kind of wore me down like i get exhausted from series so i just like the whole like marvel universe and stuff like it's just too much too too much like i really liked um i liked thor ragnarok when that came out but that was a while ago tentacles to make it creepy uh no you don't always have to have tentacles make it creepy dead locked chicken leg walrus can you really go wrong name another deadlocked chicken-legged walrus creature might be onto something i mean with the guy named iron man saying that marvel has the best shows ever kind of checks out like i can't disagree with you on that from your perspective but i'm tired of it um would you recommend to try sculpting characters in pose rather than a or t-pose then rigging for posing try to sculpting clothes at impose rather than art um so if you're doing like concept stuff a lot of the time you're gonna have to post stuff for the client like i i usually have to post stuff for a client um but that's usually after they're like you know the defaults you should always have the defaults ready to work on as well as your pose it's a little bit hard to like deal with this kind of a workflow i know and there's a lot of like resculpting but if you're a sculptor that's that's usually what you have to do is sculpt a lot um but if you're in production and you have like a very clear design in front of you just do it in a pose or t-pose whatever your rigors say you should be doing uh and then get it approved um in air t-pose via the approved design that you've already been given so if you're do if you're a concept sculptor then you're going to want to pose it for presentation if you're in production and you're doing it right before it's going to be modeled then you're going to want to do it in a pose or t-pose how to make the eyes glossy um there's a couple of ways like you know you can you can literally just like grab a different matte cap here you could use uh where is it like rgb levels for example you see that so if you change your material to rgb levels you can have like a shiny eye or you can like paint it so if you're using poly paint you can paint highlights and stuff i like to paint so that's usually what i do uh they want to make it kitty friendly but they could have done an alternative timeline or something oh you're still talking about all that okay i mean i'm not gonna say that like dc is like my go-to because i i'm not i'm tired of marvel it's the same thing to me i'm tired of dc too i'm just tired of superheroes and i think that's that's why i like stuff like invincible so much just because it kind of flips it around and makes it fresh again i don't know zack snyder's slow motion man i'm gonna get hella cancelled by people like great great stuff and it's very appealing obviously it's really like all of these movies are really good all these series are obviously really good but as a personal preference zack snyder his slow motion scenes drives me insane insane i get anxiety i'm like why are we slowing down here like the pacing of his films really like i'm like i start bouncing in my seat i'm like okay come on uh maybe big old neck just a big old neck [Music] that is that is a that is a booty and it is going to get her boned down because that is that is a booty too much foodie too much booty [Music] all right i'm gonna throw this over to the t-pose i'm going to have some fun in t-pose t-pose essentially grabs all of the subtools together and makes them into one sub-tool so that you can start editing all of them together that's usually what i do to adjust proportions on on the meshes that i'm like on the concepts that i'm working on then you can also still like you know every single sub tool as well is uh is kept as its own polygroup so you can still like block things out like that and then move overall shapes i just like using this um or you know just making overall shapes better yeah feel and here grab that red all right okay let's see what are you guys saying toy plastic yeah toy plastic works fine for uh for the glossy eyes yeah and then frank you're gonna want to just go over to um uh to color right here and in color you see fill object right there so you click fill object on the sub tool that you want to fill with a material make sure that your material channel is on like this and then fill it scientific studies say that slo-mo's are just hallucinations say what now what's good what's good what's up am i making e-mail next wait what mg what what are you talking about the jay jonah i didn't i didn't finish it uh it's the exact same as the last time last time you saw because i don't have a lot of time to be doing stuff and honestly like not gonna lie a little on the burned outside so just uh i'll just chill you know um so i don't want yeah i don't want this to be too human i want it to kind of like be a larger heel [Music] shape here i'm sure you're all like screeching oh my god why are you dying my oh my god [Music] oh [Music] um genitalia oh my god monster balls i have i think i finally like reached the stage of like my just being an artist like i just don't care if i make genitalia or not like it's not it ain't no it it ain't weird man monster monsters have balls man because like i i know when uh i was like younger i was very much afraid of uh sculpted monster balls now monster balls sorry somebody say sack let's do [Music] we will make robot voices always got me man always good in always good to listen to some robot voices [Music] okay i gotta like ah it's just tricky very tricky think i think it needs a little bit more like a hunch yeah and then this so thinking of these legs like it could go quadruped if it wanted to [Music] um yes quote me perfect quote thank you very much very good quote fiction says um for a character artist what is the expected speed in industry that a character artist should have from sculpting read taco used texturing that honestly i'm gonna give you an answer that's gonna make you really annoyed it depends it really depends on the project and um if you already have a design and how complex the design is or you know your your job like you know are you hired as specifically a modeler are you hired as a concept sculptor right like are you in the art department or are you in um the character modeling department right like there's it depends on the studio too because some of them you have to wear all nuts whereas different studios you are just one specific type i would say you know you're not going to want to spend a month on like a background character for example you're going to want to do those pretty quickly but you know uh the stuff that i've had to do ranges anywhere for a week for a sculpt to two days for a sculpt to like i've had to work on one sculpt for two months like it really just depends on it yeah it just really depends on the project am i in space what do you mean bubbles what is it what am i in space aren't we all in space technically just started getting into zbrush and doing doing my first creature sculpt and i've learned so much from watching with people oh thank you no i'm i'm like really happy that i can like help in some way um no that's great that's awesome i'm really happy that i'm helping in some way shape or form yeah yeah i'm gonna is okay hide this area and not doing what i wanted to all right all right so i really wish i could play infected mushrooms on stream and they only have one song that's copyright free when i would really like to play infected mushrooms affected mushroom whatever oh my god are you gonna need to like that first concept version of the credit creditor this is looking like predator in what world is this looking like predator i guess i'm not familiar with that person how do i handle proportions whenever an asset is going to be viewed rather small like for example if you were 3d printing a character really small but you wanted to retain detail usually okay so i i don't have 3d printing experience but from what i've heard from other people is usually what you want to do in that situation is over exaggerate like details like so if you you know if you had um if you had like you know a wrinkle in a wrist you would want to like make it larger because when you scale it down really small like you're not it and you want that specific wrinkle to be visible then you're going to want to like make it deeper a deeper cut so everything is really exaggerated and like cloth and fabrics are thicker as well the latest movie you think is quite simple but it took mpc more than a year to get the proportion right and improved in all angles of cameras oh yeah david yeah so that's another thing too is if you're handling a really well-known ip it's likely that thing is going to be you're not going to be able to take credit for it like that right like that's going to be a team effort it's going to be touched by everybody in their mom's in studio and it's it's going to have a rotation um through departments multiple times over and over again because you know things are just going to constantly be changing because it's a it's a well-known ip and if it's a well-known ip and it already exists and it's beloved by like other fans then you know the studio will want to make sure that it's up to par um even if it's a redesign it's like that redesign needs to be up to par so uh you know expect to spend a lot longer if it is an existing like famous ip you're going to do some research on the secret sauce yeah there's a couple people um here on the pixelated channel that do 3d printing stuff um a good a good bet is to go and check out tomas he was here earlier honestly the the sonic thing in my opinion is really like that that's just brutal like i still haven't watched the movie like i didn't want to support that like what what happened with the like because it's one thing to like listen to the fan like the the original design was pretty bad but to make you know your your team the vfx team go into overdrive over time to fix it because of what could only be like an internal like bs thing that happened where somebody who shouldn't have been maybe designing or maybe you know somebody approved it somewhere and thought it was a good idea or something happened i have no idea what happened but what i do know is it wasn't great that the vfx teams had to work overtime so i'm like i don't know man it's like life of pie for example like what the heck was that like it's a beautiful movie uh anyways i don't wanna get too much into that you guys already know how much is this program um you can go onto the pixelogic website and you can see all the price points there how do i re-top something like this whenever you use zero mesh it breaks apart pieces of geometry especially sharp points like teeth or horns if you had sharp bits then i would just yeah i would just kind of do that by hand in another uh another software so like usually you know if you can't get away with zero mesh so if you're doing something organic like this you're not gonna wanna see remesh for animation if you're doing it for production you're gonna want to re-top with it by hand um [Music] so what you're gonna wanna do is take your sculpt send it over to maya or wherever and start laying down with like quadra your new topology um zbrush you're also able to re-top it's not my preferred method but people get really good results from it as well how do i use fiber mesh for hair usually i think about it in layers like the way that you would like clumps like you would hair like actual hair so you see my hair right like something that is a shorter length and a top layer like this one would be its own like i would mask it and then groom it in its own plump like its own like you see how it's chunked like this this would be its own room whereas this would be a different room and then here's another chunk it would be a different groom so you mask out and then grow the hair and then you can start grooming that essentially all right i'm gonna depose the subtee boom so that helped the uh the overall proportion ignored let me save trying to make long nails like claws that's what you mean uh are you seri meshing like too yeah i yeah i would i would just like re-top it um personally like or you could just like take uh take like uh a primitive you could always for claws and things like this i usually like for for really quick claw action this is usually what i do right here watch just take something like this is 480 but you can always just like remove the end bit here delete hidden and then you go into bend arc and there is an easy claw like that and then it stitch all right easy clean cloth how to make clothing folds without sloth brushes because they give random results cloth holds without cloth brushes because of your brand oh um you're gonna have to study the fundamentals of how drapery folds think about uh zed patterns and this set here hold on usually what i'll do is i'll just take a large damien standard and do overall um like strokes like this and block out like where uh the main forms are that i want to create my folds with like my creases right and then i'll just kind of like do a quick smooth over top and uh and then i'll just kind of keep using damian standard to sharpen certain bits um like this and then you can take the pinch brush as well to kind of get like these overall sharper creases inside areas it's usually how i block them out anyways and then if you wanted like the tinier ones you just take damian standard again and you can start to put that over top as well break up that and then soften it right with a smooth that's usually what i do okay wait no this is that there we go yo angelus what's good how you doing key design principles to keep in mind when designing a creature apart from actuate real life anatomy key design principles to keep in mind when designing your future what kind of creature are you designing right um if you are making like a herbivore well i mean this is again coming from like real life stuff uh you know you you think about if you're making a herbivore then you're going to want to think about how you know herbivore skulls are their teeth are et cetera but that's that's not really your question right like that's that's essentially like you know real life but we're not talking about real life then we're talking about um silhouette so if we're thinking like you know predator um you're gonna want more of like an intimidating pose posture the shapes could be sharper right uh it depends on what you're really like looking for so those are questions to ask yourself is okay is it is it mean and if it's mean how can i show that it's me maybe sharp points pointy things help bring that across you know um maybe little bits of reptilian you know the eyes maybe i can make it less human-like the less whites you show in the eye the more monster it looks if you put whites in the eye that's something happens with our brains and we're like oh we can read your emotion more the reason why you see the whites in like dogs eyes like compared to like wild dogs and they you see more whites in their eyes they've evolved to adapt to human emotion more um and it appeals to us right like we can we look at their eyes and we can see in a dog's face like oh you look happy or sad or whatever the whites in their eyes makes it more um human in a way right so that's another thing if you want it more monstrous as well you know think about removing human elements of it i guess or if you want it really creepy how can you incorporate things that are familiar into your design like familiar and real like the real life um into your design again i'm talking about real life it's hard for me to like not talk about real life when it comes to creature design what's the best way to make words um i literally just showed one of the better ways to do it you essentially take a primitive and then you go here bend arc easy it seems to have impacts on me is foreign why can't you just hear me why aren't you i'm just like creating some space for where the uh the teeth are so it makes sense with the skull and the eyes right here i think i'll make the eye socket area actually pretty big like that and then i'll grab the back of the scalp [Music] hmm control shift hides parts uh let me just yes so you can hide um and uh and isolate parts in one sub tool with control shifts sorry it's muscle memory for me so i actually forget they're going to make it possible to rig skin animate live in any engine that would be pretty cool that would be pretty cool hey fire how are you doing what have we got going here um yeah vorpal buddy yeah okay i don't know man weirdness whatever this is you we can go with horrible money somebody said like a different version of predator i guess because of the teeth maybe uh how do you make hair and fur you always have trouble with that i usually sculpt it because i'm not a groom artist i don't spend a lot of time grooming um but you can use fiber mesh uh i i usually just sculpt though and then paint on top because i'm a concept sculptor my balls are kind of familiar aight sick voice is sounding pretty raspy today don't judge me judge me well i'll tell you why it's because i'm this is the most i've talked for oh god it's the most i've talked for the [Music] month no worries frank it's all good you don't want to thank me for enjoying it as well [Music] hmm [Music] um [Music] yeah my voice is cracking hella you're right god damn it it really is because like this freaking pandemic i haven't seen anyone any of my friends for so long how does one make friends in the pandemic as a freelance artist wow my interactions my interactions are usually like oh yay i have feedback on my sculpt i get to talk to my directors uh [Music] am i adding a tail to that monster i don't know honestly i don't know i'm thinking yes but i'm also like i kind of i don't know i do want to balance it more though like um trying to think of like how the hip yeah the hip would be like this and then that would be then this guy so wings everyone always asks for wings how do you install zbrush for free there is a version of zbrush called zbrushcore mini and you can get that for free to try to try it out there's also a 30-day free trial that you can get by going onto the pixelogic website you do have a question for me today how do you manage the ui aside from your brush hotkeys you hate having to scroll through the side menu under subtools and you were wondering if you want to like create your own custom ui uh just go into preferences and um and you can actually start changing like the colors and stuff in eye colors um and uh changing hotkeys is i think you go ctrl shift alt click i'm not 100 sure i don't remember that one um but then enable customize right here you'll see it turned to this and you can actually start dragging your ui around everywhere you disable a customize and then you store the config save ui so that you can always bring it around with you um if you want more information on that you could go to z classroom and they have a a video on that classroom wow dude i really do need to talk more my voice is not used to this anymore please wings would look great please please put the wings wings three um salt water drink warm d no it literally is just because my vocal cords are not useless i'm not even joking i don't talk anymore i really don't it's so weird i did i'm not used to it fine fine you want you want wings hmm [Music] yeah i probably would go right there um hmm there we go [Music] attend there's nothing better than being with you these days baby feel oh [Music] [Music] look at in a second i wanted wings so i just had to quickly block in wings so that you're the end of it people keep coming in you're like oh my god you should put wings oh my god next thing will be a tail you all just want like wings and tails constantly if it doesn't have wings and tails is like gtfo wings tails wings tails wings tails that's you that's you guys so you sound like we steals just you uh how do i make thin skin on wings like a bat well lucky for you we're doing wings look at this quick trick so sometimes um sometimes i use curve uh hello quad bill so you can do is this which i don't do as much anymore but you can do this this is curved pod fill okay so the smaller your brush size the thinner the mesh is going to be but if you want like a single sided mesh then usually what i do is uh is i just use a plane oh hello focal shift there we go so if you just wanted a one-sided surface then just use a plane and uh switch your smooths to the cloth smooth where is it where is the cloth move smooth cloth smooth smooth smooth cloth right here switch a smooth cloth then it will smooth out the uh the border edges of your single a single uh sided services yep [Music] oh [Music] hmm [Music] split mask so it's its own little thing the little diva that it is and then we can duplicate it filthy little diva wings it's gotta be its own sub tool nah nah nah i'm just gonna do a new one i'm not gonna be lazy i'm gonna do a new one no to the laziest [Music] it's funny sometimes i lose more time trying to be lazy than if i were to just do the thing you know what i mean like if i were to just not be lazy and do it properly instead of like trying to fudge it into place all the time just like so desperate to be lazy you know like i just really want to be lazy all the time just like honestly if zbrush could just like come out with the design my creature for me button i will hell yeah hey eddie hey freak experiments yes definitely experiments one totally not lazy nope nope gotta split the mast filthy diva all right we're gonna do another one wow wings are so much fun guys [Music] oh my god don't you love wings this is all for you wing loving beans things are so fun you monsters going to your sugar beautiful great wonderful so happy i can help all right this wing is going to attach to the arm as well because you know what we're gonna make this interesting we're gonna have some wings we're gonna make them interesting i'm not gonna do this like oh god it's always just want like these generic like freaking wings it's like they're you can you give me [Music] just like can you put like a tail on it okay god yes mossman definitely moss man 100 mothman 100. [Music] hey it's eight o'clock which means it's time for me to take a break so just as ian comes in you're going to enjoy chair stream ian i am not even close to being done this no you are correct this a sketch it is a sketch anyway so who cares yeah stretch time because none of us like having blood clots stretching getting up and not sitting your entire life away make sure that you don't get blood clots go like blood clots so get up do your stretches and then come back in five minutes and i'll be back as well and then i'll show you my dog monty it's very moody today i'm not even joking he's very moody today like he usually is like under he he's in his crate today because i turned the ac on he doesn't like the ac he's okay with the ac if the door is open but the door is closed then he doesn't like the ic you see moody monty all right i will be back actually i'll put this guy on stream ew hello there we go and uh where's my br e there we are all right i'll be back in five minutes stretch anti-blood clot time and i'll be back bye we say is is this let's see there he goes we have a very moody boy he really hate he's probably good yeah he keeps looking back he hates that ac so much and he's like totally okay i have to tell you this dog is incredibly incredibly dramatic we play this like confidence building game um called check it out he says ergo because he knows that that word we play the confidence building game so he just he goes and checks out the scary thing and then he gets to return to me after he's pooped it with a tree right supposed to build confidence in dogs sure it does however with him if you do that too soon then it becomes like he sees it as like you're making it a thing and therefore you have to make it like it has to be scary you're fine if i'm like this right oh no no no no no he's not okay with it and the thing is too is he's totally fine with the ac in most situations it's just when he wants attention he i know this sounds weird but i know him because he's very like he's a very anxious and scared dog normally he's okay with the ac sometimes he whines and cries and throws tantrums essentially to get attention but it sounds like he's horrified but he's learned to do this it's i know it doesn't look like it right now because he's flower sacking but this is literally like you're not getting almonds no it's literally like what he does this she's dude these are so dramatic absolute here have some butt what orgy butt he always gets love he gets love every single day he's actually kind of like spoiled honestly hey mr wonder where he gets a king i swear to god you know one thing that i absolutely love is just like grabbing his butt he lo he he still doesn't mind it at all he just like grab it and swish swish swish what yeah he's he is a very he's a drama queen he's a also a diva a princess literally like so picky about so many things and we've tried teaching him not to be picky don't don't get me wrong it's not like it's not like we would do very specific things with him as a puppy to make him like this he's just a princess um chewing things for example like eating like if i wanted to give him a piece of banana he likes banana i have to in his in front of his face okay bro i have to in front of his face take the piece of banana and show him that i'm making it little tiny pieces and put it on the ground for him in a very specific way so that he will eat it if i just give him a slice of banana he'll like lick it and then he'll just stare at it he'll just stare and it will it will stay there forever and you'll go to the other side of the room sit down and stare at it from the other side of the room like disappointed in it like why why are you this way oh my god he's a good boy though that's his monty he has like pretty much zero personality when i'm holding him on stream but i swear to god he is a lot and he barks at everything that's what i like i made that face like right when i like rolled back he like ran out of his uh of his bed he ran out of his bed and he just started barking at me like i want to get out of this room i want to go and do things like we've been doing things today relax you gotta relax not everything is monty time yeah literally he he's like that was like all food all right [Music] good there you go good quit it one more time okay go check in check it out [Music] okay okay good hey why don't you go over here go over there lay down lay down relax just relax yeah he's he's a lot i love him but he is a lot good stay stay there okay back to work bud no okay one lay down lay down relax you're fine oh my goodness pretty let's see let's do a little bit of dimension please stay there good the chicken little creature thank you very much stay um all the brushes i have are they from zbrush guys some of them are from zbrush guides yeah um the ones that i use on stream typically are just like the default uh zbrush vanilla ones like this this is uh this is slash 2 which you can get in the light box it exists in lightbox what's the default brush default brushes are good enough yeah i agree 100 um if you want to do like more like alpha based stuff though or like more specific uh to like a workflow that you're working on or working with rather then there are different brushes to like speed that up but especially as like a beginner you really don't need uh more than the vanilla stuff and like all of the all of the vanilla stuff too like you can just add it to could be like to create like all of the brushes that you would find elsewhere it's worth it to know how to like make your own brushes at least to some degree anyways because then for like the more specific situations that you have like for repeating the scales and stuff like that for example like you know how that you you could just kind of create something to speed up that workflow would i ever put dog shoes on monty yeah he ha he wears uh boots in the winter time because the um the salt on the sidewalks are okay good just stay there relax sorry he keeps like he both like wants attention is also like uncomfortable with the ac so like he's gotta like re-get used to it he was it's not like he doesn't know about the ac he um he was fine with it all last summer was fine with it most of this summer too but i think the um window covering at one point like moved a little bit and now he's not okay with it again so it's like you'll get better you'll get used to it again always afraid everything's scary but it's like it's not even just that either uh he's like afraid of so many different things he has a lot of fears so it's not like oh i'll work through this and then i'll be done and then he won't be anxious anymore like nah like he finds a reason to be scared of pretty much everything um what's up oh what is he doing down there right now he's just laying there but he keeps trying to like get up and like nervously run away from the ac but it's like where are you gonna go like it's better you're like that's a good spot so i keep like throwing them treats because i'm trying to like build that confidence again that like hey look it's a happy place again remember it's not scary but it's like one bad thing can happen that he deems as bad anyways or he could like think that something made a noise and then all of a sudden he'll be afraid of it again and you have to start from scratch it's like it's a lot it's a lot having a dog like this with an anxiety issue like everything everything is scary everything but i love him he's a good boy just very obnoxious and has started barking a lot more recently um for attention i mean specifically like any time like i get up he will start like barking at me and there's only so much i can do because like i don't want neighbors getting angry it's just a lot what might be important where i'm looking at the thing not zoom a lot um yeah if you don't like i wouldn't i wouldn't zoom in like this and work at something especially at this stage of uh of the process you have a parrot but always up oh your your your parents always making noise yeah i mean like parrots like that's that's our thing right yeah they do be loud parrots are so cool though good boy good yes good good looks like she's got a cigarette around what your dogs when you give her a treat monty has to have them tiny he needs them cut up for him also most dogs right like most dogs you give them something new that they've never like had before but you know that it's something like a dog will like normally dogs just like sniff it once and then just like devour it right like that's like a normal thing monty monty will gently take it out of your hands like a very polite boy immediately put it on the ground and be very suspicious of it he will he will smell it nudge it try to eat it put it down stare at it like everything is a conspiracy against him that's very suspicious [Music] um [Music] okay ah it's all good eddie you can always tune in um on or just like look at the rod afterwards the uh the vod will have whatever i ended up with it probably won't get like too too far i don't think but um you know it'll look like [Music] something what are these things what things um what brush do i recommend for making muscles so right now i'm just using clay build-up and damien standard in conjunction with each other um like you could also use inflate i guess as well to make different uh i guess to make different um like if you were if you were to do something like this and then take the inflate brush make them closer together you could do that but i usually just like block out a lot of stuff with the play build up and davian standard personally [Music] hmm [Music] oh [Music] hmm really insert the wing all right i know what i'm going to do with this one then this one would be these back scapular muscles that go into like a cats um i don't know what those muscles are called i wish i was like better about that you use an insert there this uh yeah and then we can bring this guy like this give it there we go and then like sketch you lit [Music] skip how stupid does the mankind be um individually a person is smart but together it's a hole people are dumb i don't know who said that but it wasn't me i'm not going to take credit for that clay buildup is perfect for muscles because it lays down over over itself like muscles do yes i agree 100 um clay buildup is just great in general because you just like throw stuff on top of each other tommy lee jones is that who said it i don't know life is infinity we live in a society yo what renderer do i use i use key shot um to do mastiffs here [Music] and i like exaggerating these like skin folds skin folds make me happy but not my own skin boots i don't like my own skin pulse oh my god i've been getting lots of skin folds like starting to age notice it when you're doing makeup like uh like my eyelids are now like the same like they're like scrotums it's like like it doesn't like layer on properly just like come on oh well can you texture and zebras or do you have to do it in another program um you can you can do some poly painting in zbrush but if you're going to do like different material passes and stuff you're going to want to like go into like substance or mari or anything like that what kind of tablet am i using i am using a cintiq 22 hd that's why you grew a beard don't notice the wrinkles anymore okay you know throw that testosterone my way i'll try do you know how much longer i'll be streaming um an hour and 15 minutes much info that's my ammo dude i think i don't i literally don't care um i don't i'm making you uncomfortable i mean i'm sorry but the word scrotum is an anatomical word and if it makes you uncomfortable i'm not gonna go there sorry do you recommend the new cintiq pros i haven't used them so i can't really recommend them i don't like you know recommending things that i haven't really used before um i can tell you what other people have said about things i think i think ian ir sculpts on zbrush live like on these streams i think he got one recently i'm not too sure uh he might have gotten a regular one i don't really i don't really know honestly at this point yeah i like if you're if you're not used to me making you uncomfortable like and you hang around here like that's my question from earlier like why do you say am i kind i messed up that is not how that looks bad anatomy remember we're going more of like a cat arm thing there and this is like uh i always have to remember like this drumstick shape really got that drumstick thing going on that's literally how i remember my anatomy by the way like if you're bad if you're bad at remembering names like me just start like giving things your own names because like actual um medical anatomical names for things like elude so this i call the drumstick like you can see right it's literally it's a triceps they're literally the triceps on a cat but i call them the drumstick because that's how i remember this shape on the arm these forms are going to summon you dude look at this and be like i can do you nine times cleaner and he'd be right uh let's see use substance painter so she's you should use that but you would have to uv unwrap first right yes i there is a way to send an image like a screen cap like a 2.5 d type thing wow i am so bright wow look at how bright i am uh yeah there we go um you can send a uh like a 2.5 d type thing over to substance and work on like an image right um [Music] and i think i think pablo has that on his website zbrush guides you could look for it there's like a specific like workflow of doing that and then you don't have to uv anything but it's just for a still image thanks chomsky i'm glad you like the unfinished dough looking like let like wings like they're thank you so much an old movie called mimic don't know what that one is but i'll take it thanks sergio um gargoyle action figures oh my god the guard when are they gonna make gargoyles like an actual live-action thing disney could make so much money off of millennial uh nostalgia thanks peter on vacation glad to catch uh hi gremer hi there hi aung how are you frank you can stop saying thank you it's all good dude i got it i'm about that you're thankful be woken oh gargoyles whatever i really want to finish um that piece i had started uh via the basilisk piece i just wish i had more time uh polycount is only 500k but yeah um the majority of that too is like the eye pulse and stuff uh that's the beauty of working low poly and getting used to just like working with um big shapes instead right like you get better at smoothing out your forms at an early stage but another thing too is like you know it helps me from becoming too afraid like i don't like feeling afraid when i'm sculpting like it's it starts to hinder things afraid as i'm like uh like a like you know being too cautious about things oh dizzy i also like the fact that like you know if i ever feel like i'm getting too afraid i just say ah screw it like i can always just go into tibo's t-pose mode and fix all my proportions that way the better it's best to just kind of like you know get get your forms in there i'm starting and stopping sentences again aren't i i'm so out of the loop of streaming that i'm like i i need to practice again so i i sincerely apologize like i need i need to practice streaming again it's been a while i just keep taking breaks and i i'm forgetting how to stream how to talk and work give my account do you mean like my personal stuff all my personal like all my socials right there does that look weird because you can't see like where my arm is coming from just like weird oh god my arm is coming from the city cool okay uh do i prefer block out shapes first or start straight from sculpting um i like i like to just kind of like yeah i usually like if i'm doing it like this um just like sketching i will yeah i will i will just like block out from a sphere and sketch from a sphere just like how you saw like at the very beginning of this stream maybe one day we will find all the things is so here like when you're making up anatomy by the way um it's good to think about uh you know okay so for this exam for example if i'm doing like just the two here you need the two like what are the two tendons that will be moving those things right um so that's sort of like where i'm like making that split right here allowing like the main flexor or whatever you want to call this and then uh you know these two tendons coming down here to move this one needs to be thicker but like coming down and moving these two at the side [Music] um um okay let's see uh well maybe go for the name a cubed um it's uh my initials my initials are aaa what do i do when you smooth spiky bits too much and it becomes so pointy it's a dotted silk string do you know what i'm talking about yes tomsky i utilize the hide and delete function so if uh like let's say right here right you take this and you're like smoothing it and smoothing it and you're like you had it like okay well this one this is topology that's fine but i know you're talking about like usually when it's like dynamesh um so what you do is you take that bit and then you hide it and then you go down to geometry and modify topology you delete hidden and then after you're done deleting that monstrosity you can go right on over in the same menu to the close holes and your problem solved bye-bye get out of here get out of here with that right that's what i do [Music] hmm when am i streaming again um if i am not insanely busy then next week wednesday i will be back now how to study zbrush um my favorite approach to studying zbrush is just to get into the program and get dirty with it there's like really basic uh resources um like z classroom like to help you uh to help you like with all of the basic stuff right oh dude why why isn't why doesn't that send to uh whatever c classroom.com um so that that helps you with all of your like your basic stuff like you know if you're confused about a certain thing like what does dynamesh do zclassroom.com will have your answer for you right it's all of that it helps you navigate the ui and discover the tools and understand how to use them but i would say the best way to get good at that is to actually get hands-on and try it out yourself so think about things that you like to sculpt and practice those look at reference right look you know pinterest has a lot of really good reference for anatomy and you can make boards it just sends you from being the thing to think the thing definitely do that right i'm not gonna i'm not gonna say you have to take this course and pay this much money or whatever because it's ridiculous so you don't have to do that you can self-teach when you just have to have the the the discipline right so really just yeah get good no i'm not saying that i'm saying it does take a lot of determination and focus if you want to get good at something not just art so uh reference no and use the resources to help you understand the ui a little bit better no no no i don't mean that don't twist my words bro what a solar eclipse in seven hours you should be able to yes i know i know i hope that i'm like awake for it michael pavlovich is really good too yeah uh he he has all this stuff on his youtube channel for free [Music] oh so [Music] hmm just creating some joints on these stupid play-doh wings [Music] now remember the first sculpt you did that you thought was a success in my own mind the first one that i thought was a success um i'll tell like that i was like actually i was like oh my gosh like i'm i'm finally going to get a job oh it was definitely this stupid like i got to get this off of my portfolio i kind of keep it there just for like prosperity sake i guess yeah this is like the first one that i think i was like actually like proud of proud of what no there we go this this dragon um this one i like you can see like i literally just dragged alphas and i didn't do much i just smoothed over it and stuff like i wasn't i really didn't know what i was doing very well and this took me like a while this was five years ago is this the one that i was like yes like i can work vfx like yes i can do it and i was really quite proud of it for a little time um and i was getting like you know like applying for junior jobs i was getting like you know attention for it as well as a junior anyways and i was like now now i'm looking at him like but especially knowing how long i spent on this and what i thought was appropriate like damage um to like it and appropriate for like the scales and stuff like this is also blurry nothing is crisp um the horns and like the head shape actually doesn't make much sense like the the underlying forms are just very blobby and all over the place but it has energy right and so that's the only part that kind of like sticks around i guess but it's not great and uh and that was definitely the first one that i was very excited about but like the thing is the better you get like the more that feeling just kind of like goes away at least for me so really i don't know [Music] an odd from doctor who if maybe i knew what that was i know what doctor who is i just don't know what a an odd is do i still have that dragon file somewhere i'm sure i do [Music] i am i'm sure i do oh yeah that that dragon sculpt like it it took me so long just to do that bus too and i had no idea how like i would ever do like a full body thing like that that that sculpt was like i think over a week back and forth on it like just to get the the bus done so but what are what are you doing why don't you just lay down okay thank you my first vfx right oh my god for doing scales especially a long cylindrical dragonos snake-like creatures um yeah so you can do imm stuff it depends on like how pronounced these scales need to be if it's more like a uh like an inset texture or you can get away with alphas but i put a um a morph target down first so that like once you have your morph target down there's a brush in here um the morph brush right this one if you use the morph brush it will just like you can erase parts of the alphas that you put down you have stored a morph target before you start putting alphas down the wireframe of this is disgusting it has no relevance to anything i guess though it is a dynamesh sculpt there's no point in looking at the wireframe here what do i use for skin textures what did i use for skin textures on that one that was just some like generic alpha that i found and i thought i was like a genius for slapping it around everywhere without like all willy-nilly oh an ood not an odd it's an ood oh they look like mind flares they look like mind players dude um do i need to re-top this for professional work are you mostly just hired to sculpt cool stuff okay so most of like most of my recent work has been uh concept sculpting so yeah i literally just okay dude dude here right here rare lay down lay down you can't sit right underneath my chair okay good just relax let's relax nothing has changed here we can't sit right underneath the wheels it doesn't work that way um but yeah i i literally just uh work as a concept sculptor so um i'll get either verbal pitch or a quick sketch that like some other designer has done in a realm and i'm told to play around with that so i'm doing a lot of design work character design work um creature design work in 3d and zbrush and i can't share this stuff either because it is incredibly nda and like you know it's it's all owned by these companies so i can't share with you any of that but essentially yeah i just i could get paid to sculpt stuff um most of what i do is right now anyways some of it is um less in that realm but mostly it's like kids work like cartoon stylized yep all right i'm gonna put an alpha on this guy so that i can get some damage around the outside of the wing here did it look less good let me quickly save this too do i do any rigging or just sculpting i am a sculptor i don't do rigging i know how to rig in a basic sense but that ain't my career yeah most of the stuff that i do i i yeah so five years ago i got my first job like a little over five years is going on six years sorry it's going on like six years so uh yeah i've just been doing a lot of sculpting did i ever work on borderlands i love borderlands uh but no borderlands 2 specifically the third one was just like the potty humor was just it got really tiring but the second one was like amazing i loved it uh walk through like tutorials you can purchase no unfortunately i'm sorry [Music] hmm [Music] hmm [Music] hmm oh some food and it's cooking and it's cooking um did i join nfts nerp where adidas i did not very happy for anyone who actually made money off of it but i smelt the doo doo fire waiting to happen long before a bunch of people even got into it so and i didn't really want to like enroch on stuff i didn't want to like argue online so i kind of just kept myself about all of that because i really don't like arguing online i really hate it like if you don't agree then all right agree to disagree bye but the nft thing had people like absolutely destroying each other [Music] woohoo are those better for contrast wait oh uh a 22 hd yeah um i don't know about contrast but i've always liked the wacom screens um it's just sort of been my go-to brand i i don't really know too much about the other alternatives but i really enjoy this sergio i appreciate it right when am i wait where you're adding layers and height to one side of it oh that brush with the slash two he has a similar brush to that one and you could never get your get it to work like that in zbrush just use a slash 2 brush then like yeah you just it's um direction dependent so uh because it's based off of an alpha so if you're dragging right you're dragging this way the ledge will show that way but if you go up the ledge will go the other way because it's applying an alpha so it's direction based so that's all you have to if you want to you know if you wanted the ledge to go the other way but you wanted to stroke downwards just use the alt function actually no that doesn't work does it yeah it does yeah so just alt if you wanted it to go there no i'm just used to it never mind so yeah it's direction based sorry industry standard what the uh this sort of like this sort of thing like i mean any default brush in zbrush is industry standard honestly you can find use for pretty much everything some are more like particular use cases sometimes i like to do things where like i'll take one creature and i'll and i'll like a sketch and i will just like fully base the whole sketch off of that like just to see like what i can do so one of them like is like the spiral right what's that so let me quickly save this uh let me see if i can one rather than sculpting in blender or maya um yeah but it's not nearly as good as uh as a zbrush at it i wonder if i can find hold on let me just try and find something real quick i'll answer questions as i do this okay hmm i don't know if i'll be able to find it if it's even wait maybe i don't remember what i called it [Music] oh well whatever i was gonna show something i can't remember what i called it it's fine but sometimes i base like entire sculpts off of like one um one specific brush just to just to experiment and see what i can create and i did one with the swirl brush which was a lot of fun switches that i could create creatures like this as fast as i did what would i think five years ago um honestly if it were five years ago if i'm being honest with you i would have thought that i was already doing that like it's it's it's honestly perception like um and uh and and what you're exposed to i wasn't really like exposed to a whole bunch of like really good i was going to animation school so i wasn't like around you know a bunch of like really good sculptors and stuff so i i thought i was like awesome for what i was doing anyways but then i was quickly humbled again and again and again which is good like you gotta you gotta like get yourself in check but the perspective also like you know the more that you learn the more you realize you have a long way to go because like your your eye starts to get better so if it were it were five years ago and you asked me if you know what i would feel about my future self i'd be like what are you talking about i'm already doing that so it'll be very interesting knowing that that is how i am compared to when i first started what it'll be like in uh in five more years like what the heck am i gonna be doing who knows that's why it's like it's good to just keep going just keep doing stuff see where it takes you don't stop keep it going [Music] um all right i'm gonna um just here next one food i want bubble tea foreign are you hollow and clone it um this is with the live boolean so where where where is the live boolean thing live boolean where do you guys yeah i think render boolean's here so live willian um essentially what you want to do is enable this and then you know right over here like depending on here i'll run through it again i'll run through it again and i'll talk about the process so that you can see exactly what's going on so let's say this is the one that i want i'm gonna delete this as well all right so this is the one that i want to have the boolean on i'm going to create the object that i want to cut away with so in this case i just use like oh this one still has lower general tree okay so you drag out you know whatever whatever it is that you want to boolean with you can split the mask points and then um start positioning like your initial one and then uh this you don't want to have it start so this is your object to use as a boolean device move that underneath what is going to be boolean right so in this case this tool uh which is the wing skin is going to be the top of our hierarchy you make it start so you just click on that arrow right there and then underneath everything underneath the start is what is going to apply the boolean right so you do you click on this uh second circle object right here that will tell zebras you want it to be boolean then you turn on live boolean and you will see that it is now cutting away it is cutting away from that and you can move it around actively um and so if you hold down control you can actually duplicate that as well so that's usually that's that's what i was doing is i was just moving around creating little like shapes and then duplicating it making like another shape control duplicating right and then after you're done with that i'll just like need to be like super accurate or anything if everything is off and you have this active live boolean what you can do then is click the boolean down here and say make boolean mesh it will take anything that it can see and it will make a new tool with it in there that's right here so now you can append right i'm gonna append the new one that is now um i'm going to delete these there there you go and if you if i was really bad at explaining that which i'm i probably was you can go on to z classroom and see how that works they'll they have a much more user-friendly explanation than i showed you up you do the booleans and folders i i usually get rid of them immediately unless i'm doing something very specifically like hard service in which case i'll start to use um the folder function as well so not a bad habit to have i'm just saying give us it uh [Music] no you're disorganized you're working on it yeah but i mean like the only time that i really even bother organizing stuff because you can always just like all click on tools in zbrush is when i have to send things off to a client that's literally the only time that i'll like oh yeah i'm totally an organized person i'm self-reporting right now man thank you frank really happy you like the creature it's great [Music] hmm [Music] so usually before i start doing like any of like this like detailing stuff as you can see i always like throw down um the actual muscle structure that i want to use and then i'll like you know start doing my thing i love to just kind of like sketch over top of things because then when you have like the real muscles in it right like if it's already in there then everything that you lay on top is going to make sense and because nature is honestly the best designer you're working with actual anatomy and just altering it so that it like you know you're just kind of creating your own anatomy that makes sense um in a real kind of like context in some way shape or form then your design is already gonna be good right you're just gonna add today mother nature is the best designer [Music] uh uh the female ads are hard to sculpt you heard that from other youtubers honestly like so the reason why that's said and i don't think a lot of people recognize this is because everything is hard to sculpt okay everything is hard to sculpt the reason why people view female heads as hard to sculpt is because pot take all right hot take time it's because the female face the female form is one of the most looked at organic shapes and scrutinized organic shapes in society right so everybody has this idea of what a woman should look like and that's why it's hard right because you like if you spend any amount of time actually studying let's say a horse's anatomy horses are hard they're really hard i wouldn't say a horse is any harder than a female face if you're doing something really accurate right but the reason why people say that like female faces are so hard to sculpt is because there's this this idea of beauty that you have to achieve or whatever it's like it's it's a can of worms it must be a nightmare to uv unwrap and reach apologize this did you do this process manually yourself you have a trick that would be more straightforward process so if you're doing like creature stuff this far out there um there would be a specific workflow in your production but really you would just be wanting to re-top by hand it's like you know a lot of things it's not as nightmarish as people think you know you could see remesh something like this and then just remove a couple of unneeded edge loops easy you know um or even just like recreate it as a spline in maya or something uh with the arm you just re-top it the way that you would a normal arm you wouldn't be following every single one of these things right you would bake that down so if you're drawing topology on top of this like it's it's honestly not as bad as a lot of people think um i think the big thing is a lot of people are just like scared to do stuff like this or haven't attempted it and they only know retar like you know with humans or whatever but like if you're if you're if you're gonna re-top you're gonna like focus on the big shapes here you know so overall the neck right you would give it straight topology and then you would bake everything else down right that's really what it would look like and you're going to bake it now if there's like some more specific um things that you need to do for rigging like if they wanted something to move a very specific way you would work with them to figure that out like maybe you would want to create more of like an indent here you know if you're working for film you just like you just add more um but really what you're going to want to do is just start like really like low res so you know do do your facial topology right so you'd have your your loop here have like your mouth loop right because that would need to be deformable right deformable um and then you know attach that stuff have that have this go around the jaw loom head back right like that this could be like just stiff and then you know you would probably have all of this be pretty straight and you could attach this the same sort of way so you would probably want to do a lot of this as pretty straight right [Music] and uh and then you're gonna wanna do [Music] something more like that so you'll have like a deferring it'll come down and then it'll defer into the chest and then that will follow this way right so it's just like you do you do low res on top of all of this like regardless and then bake down all that information it's it's not it's not that bad not that bad start with light easy model and do the trick in zbrush and rebake that with substance painter you always wonder how they manage so much complexity yeah just try just work yourself up work yourself up once you understand the workflow um you you'll understand it's not it really isn't like super bad it just means that you're gonna take like more time like for for something like very specific like this because there isn't really like much of like a base model that you can use to just kind of like throw topology on top of this a lot of it would be hand top and so you're just gonna take a little bit more time planning it out but it's not it's not a nightmare i wouldn't say it's a nightmare it's just a lot more like thinking yeah slash 2 is a lot of fun hey maverick what's up another process in the end of sculpt yeah yeah this is the hard way it i mean maybe one day there's going to be a like auto retop button for everything i mean i can see it happening in unreal you're already able to use these crazy pixel mega scans for even if you have like a hard surface like mega giant i think you saw the unreal uh five demo that hard surface um boss ancient creature thing the hard surface one the mech one that wasn't re-apologized that was like that was like i mean it probably okay maybe it was retop but it was like an insanely dense mesh and then and they were able to like rig it and animated just fine and unreal because it doesn't need to have like deformable topology like an organic model right but maybe one day in the future there might be like a oh you could just you don't need to worry about you know good edge flow for your i don't know maybe did i finish that emergence piece you were working on in my own stream a while back yes i did was not emerge in such thresholds but yes it did it is right here voila more processing power yeah uh 3d coat for the for that kind of hard surface is more faster prefer doing that in blender and a bit in zebras whatever works for you dude um zbrush is definitely a specialized tool though that you can do here thanks sergio the thumbnail worked in yeah that was the whole purpose right like the whole the whole idea of that what um exercise was to take a very very simple thumbnail like a very simple um composition with color like just color block and make something out of it and just feel that composition and it's very artsy fartsy but i like i really like doing experiments like that where i just say like what if i just only used this you know um like i was saying earlier sometimes i literally just only use one diaper brush see what happens swiss cheese man we'll fix that by going to geometry mesh integrity fix mesh no more swiss cheese man it's uh wait oh my god my mirror is oh yeah yeah my hair is being something right now um yeah i know we can do the impossible yeah yeah uh you you know it'll get better though over time it'll get easier for you know people who don't know anything technically to just be an artist but right now that's what zbrush does best is if you're not like a technical expert you can still be a 3d artist of some capacity which is a pretty cool oh do thank you thank you thank yous and thank you thank you thank you um you want to work in the industry what do we need to know well uh if you want to work as a character artist or a sculptor of some kind need to know your anatomy you need to focus on the big forms the big forms um and simplification that is a big one um you know if you want to be just like a modeler like in terms of like basics there's like a bunch of things that you need to know but if i were to say one thing overall is just like learn how to like model a box or something go through the whole like process of like you know modeling the crate texturing the crate rigging the crate and then animating the crate to fall down just so you can kind of get an idea of what it is that you're you want to do like what aspect of that did you think was the coolest it doesn't have to be a box but just pick something simple and um and learn that by just doing that take an asset a really simple asset from start to finish [Music] oh my god i'm like so blown out and bright that's the thing about sitting next to a window when it like i'm streaming at a time that it goes from like night like day time to like night time every time i think it's going down going down yeah i just have like a basic webcam um and uh and a light in front of me like a face light so it's like i have to just kind of keep like adjusting it doesn't auto adjust well it kind of auto adjusts but it's not that great i don't have like an hdri or anything like that i ain't baller i wish i was the next thing on the roster which i don't know if i'm gonna get to it is actually fixing up um my audio even better because i know i can sound better than this i know that this mic isn't like actually this this trash i'm just like not understanding how to do it very well i'm sure i i have to use uh rtx right now though because i've got my ac on so it is a little bit like crispy the audio is like kind of like on the like it cuts off on the high ends a little bit that's okay when someone you lose some it's better than hearing this constant like in the background i'm sure when you left me act like nothing is wrong oh no i know i just don't want to be like blinding in the corner right like i was like like really bright white that's why i was like didn't i it was good now it's fine it's a vampire alien it can be a vampire alien boyfriend [Music] all right yeah i mean if you were if you're gonna do it for games you would do it with an alpha obviously but we're just sculpting we're just sketching right like i said at the beginning of the stream this is not for games or anything but if you wanted to [Music] make it for games i would say make it an alpha for sure just do a one sided plane paint out the alpha easy peasy lemon squeezy bingo mango we're at 10 10 p.m though 10 p.m so i think this is where we're gonna call it because i gotta get back to work but i will put them on the screen okay i can't all right and he'll just be kind of cut off but whatever wow wow enjoy life you too looky he wanted to call you loki how did i duplicate that um shift s you want to make a big spider or an octopus like cthulhu now nice you should do it do it what the heck why not do it create your monster boyfriend freedom give him life he's in there he's in your computer he's just waiting for you to create a man a render of the creature if i have time i'll i'll uh i'm not gonna promise anything i gotta get back to work so i don't know if i i i'll have the time to like do that but if i if i do render anything and post it it's gonna be on my socials right there you can follow any of those um otherwise yeah i'll be back here [Music] next uh next wednesday um 6 to 10 pm esd doing more monster stuff making more monster boyfriends we're girlfriends or just monster partners whatever you prefer anyways i'll see you guys around be sure to follow pixlogic um for more amazing streamers um different workflows as well you know if i was not your cup of tea you thought i was annoying didn't answer your questions wasn't exactly the workflow that you were looking for maybe a bit too sarcastic for your liking maybe too canadian i don't know um there's other streamers as well you can definitely check them out they're really cool and a lot of other people have dogs as well so definitely check them out all right follow me on my socials and i'll see you on the next one bye i'm gonna go eat and work okay bye
