[Music] hi everybody Jonathan here with another twin motion tutorial and today I thought it'd be really fun to share with you my interpretation of the latest Friday twin motion exercise so the twin motion Community have been doing these exercises for a little while they're a really great way for you to kind of develop your skills have a bit of fun and just not take project too seriously so I really hope you enjoy the content make sure you watch to the end cuz we got some really amazing results that will blow your away within the time available and I look forward to seeing you join the channel if you're new around here thanks for watching Everybody enjoy so let's get started with this new tutorial for twin motion now if you go to Twitter you'll find the latest post was the twin motion Friday exercise um on the 2nd of 23 and this is a really nice model by Mark gagan and it looks like he's um you know donated this for us to do this wonderful project so I've just downloaded the file and basically I'm going to go ahead and start working on the project so the very first thing that I'm going to do is open my twin motion and import the uh model for the Friday exercise now you can see it comes in let's have a quick look around and it's a really nice little model there's a cool car park and a really nice little Urban Park sort of based around this Lake here um so the very first thing I'm going to do is start to improve the materials that come through from the Native SketchUp file just by B to my uh Library my ground and basically selecting some things like some nicer grass now I also thought it'd be really fun on my particular uh project here so I decided I'd bring in one of the previous uh Friday exercises and this is a really nice model by Arthur yov yov so check that one out as well on the Friday exercise Twitter # Twitter Friday exercise feed so what we're going to do is move this into position and I think I'm just going to kind of position it where I want it and then basically hide that big um green triangle just so I've got the Villa itself so you can see we've kind of zoomed in um it's a really nice little project and what we'll do is we'll start propping this out with some nice materials okay so I think the first thing we'll do we'll just reposition The Villa a little bit let's zoom in and let's kind of move in a little bit closer and start applying some materials to our model so the very first thing is the obvious thing uh let's get some nicer water so the lake and a nice pool water there I really love the water in Twin motion they look amazing um and I'm just trying out some of the existing materials that were imported from the SketchUp model already I'm also going to select things like the grass and just introduce a bit more grunge just to make them look a little bit more realistic as well that's a really good tip just to make those materials sort of pop a bit more so let's upgrade the uh glass on the Villa that's come from the SketchUp import let's go go and get some nice concrete and attach that to the walls to make it sort of quite a you know modern contemporary Villa and I think we'll just go and get some nice flooring inside as well so just scroll into the model and do that probably also just a good idea I just want some sort of almost like metallic sort of finish on the roof there and honestly that's almost enough in my view just to kind of get a bit of effect of the water and the Villa there and yeah I'm really happy with that so let's move on to the next stage so next I'm going to uh just move this wall back and then I think what we'll do is we'll kind of work on the project a little bit more just want to open up that view from the other side of the lake there okay so I'm just going to sample some of these materials that are already in the model uh using the texture tool shortcut is TE basically I'm going to replace some of them with some rather nicer twin motion materials and you can see you know once I introduce a bit more grunge in there looks much much nicer so I'm just kind of looking for the right materials and we're going to have a nice sort of planting bed there basically what I'm going to do now now is go to the populate panel go to the scatter tool and I'm going to go to my bushes and drag in a few different plants and bushes across into this Dropbox here now what you can then do is basically select um the bushes in the Dropbox with a single click you'll notice pretty much it just places those bushes immediately now I'm not very happy with the large one so I'm just going to see if I can kind of delete that one um sometimes it's a little bit hard to identify which one is the right one to delete so there we go you can see I've deleted that the oversized one so now I can carry on basically with my scatter tool and basically let's do a slightly different type of scatter this time just going to drag in some grass maybe a couple of clovers and I think that's probably enough let's click and you'll notice very very nice with a couple of clicks I can click into these planting beds and just add a really nice amount of detail very very rapidly so what twin motion is doing is basically uh applying it to that particular object and it just basically does it over the area that you're looking at so you can see it's quite nicely divided up into regions this model so it actually works really well so I think what I want to do here is actually a bit closer to Lake make a different kind of scatter using much longer grass and let's see how this works yeah that looks really really nice much more wild sort of meadow um so I'm looking for that kind of wild Meadow look around the lake and that's working really nicely so let's go and drag in a few things like FL and again you can select these and just do the multi click so basically everywhere you click basically you'll Place one of those randomized plants so that works really well okay so what should we do next I think for now I'm also going to do a bit of organization so what I want want to do here is just carry on uh doing a bit more scattering and basically let's open up this panel a bit here so what I'm going to do is basically use my organization to just kind of review the scatters there and B basically I want to put those in a folder so it's always time to save a model let's save this away where we're working and we'll kind of get cracking as well so if we basically want to we can delete um and then res scatter that edge there so that's nice and basically um I can kind of edit any of these and keep working yep there we go just sort of keep working on this car Park area and basically let's do one on this side here you don't really see it until you're close close enough in because obviously twin motion doesn't show every single blade of grass on the whole project but as you move your camera closer you'll notice that you suddenly see them appearing you can actually change that setting as well in the preferences um it's a sort of grass fade it's called and there's three different modes for that as well okay so what we're doing now basically just gone into my um planting and basically adding some nice sort of plants around the side of this Lake just to get a bit of a detail which you know I've got a feeling I'm going to kind of be creating a view somewhere over there near that bench looking back towards the Villa so sometimes when I'm working in Twin motion I like to do a little bit of reorganization I'm just going to move that bench forward a bit and now I'm going to basically start to add some people but before I do here's a really good little tip basically I'm going to select my scatter objects and put those in a brand new container and then you'll notice that I can minimize all of those going to do exactly the same for the planting and again once again I can turn all of that off while I'm working on the which is going to be the people so I'm going to create a people folder and the really good tip is I'm going to set that as the active folder so you notice that as I drag in these people they go immediately into that folder just to keep me really nicely organized now the groups of people are animated and these are really amazing um you can actually edit the groups as well if you need to but you know that's a really really quick way to sort of add out um lots of life to your project you know the the groups of people are just unbeatable and they're pretty good quality what's really nice about the people in Twin motion is they kind of have lots of fun actions you can change their clothes coloration and also things like activity things like uh you know sitting standing swimming as well so in fact talking about swimming I think we probably need someone in that pool in a minute so we'll do that in a second as well so you can see it's a really really quick process and all of these people are basically going into that folder so let's just get some people in this pool uh let's have this lady sort of merged in the pool a bit and maybe change her action over there to swimming so she's just s of swimming around in that pool that's kind of nice and you can see um all of those people are in one single folder now because that was the active container where we're working now just remember not to uh to change that to something different when you actually do uh want to add extra objects not into the active container itself okay so here's another chap sort of in the pool there just of swimming over just to create a little bit of interest and interactivity um I know there's a bit of grass below the pool but we're not going to see that from the views that I'm planning so I'm not too worried about things that I don't see I'm just going to kind of take my model move it down a tiny bit more okay good right so our view is starting to come together um we've only been going for uh 8 minutes or so now I know the video is a little bit speeded up so maybe a little bit longer in reality and but you can see I'm just doing a little bit more organizing and basically moving my people up into different hierarchies so this is actually very quick and easy to do you know what I was thinking about this the other day um this would be a really great way to make a twin motion template which I think I might well do and do a video on that for you on the channel so of course if you're new around here make sure you do subscribe now you can see we've moved on to the next stage now which is adding cars I've used the same approach I've created a folder and I've set that as the active container every single time we drag any of these cars in they immediately go into that container just to stay really nicely organized um I also really like the way with twin motion you can basically um change the things like the coloration so even though there's a relatively small number of these cars they're quite nice quality and you know by changing the colors you know you get that variety you need of course if you do need more cars just pop into the quicks saww um section and you'll find absolutely hundreds of additional nice cars and I'll probably prop one of those out a bit later maybe okay so um this is really quite a quick process you can see if I did want to upgrade the car paint to something even nicer um twin motion actually comes with um some amazing car paints and the material Library as well but I'm fairly happy uh with these sort of standard cars and the the views that I'm going to get um won't really kind of be too close up so I don't necessarily need the high quality car paints themselves we're looking for more of a kind of distant View and this is really just to give the model a nice bit of detail okay so um I'm really enjoying just sort of propping these car cars out as I say some of these are really great quality and we can just easily place them and just rotate them around so we're just nearly finished on this little section and I think we'll move on to propping out the next bit then okay so I've done some of the sort of basic work on my scene but now what I want to do is actually search for a couple of the views that I'm Keen to actually render out um so I'm just going to kind of like see how this view might look and that's one of the beauties of twin motion we can start working on some of the views uh even before we're finished and basically that means we can do um the additional work and detail we're required for that particular view so yeah I'm not too keen on this view um maybe it will work out okay but I'm just going to add a little bit more detail in that I want to get a nice little kind of path now this is a really easy thing to achieve using something called decals in Twin motion so you notice that if we go through the decals there all sorts of things like road signs really really cool um you can you know just add that nice extra bit of detail to your project by dragging these sort of almost like 2D kind of decals into the scene so couple of disabled parking spaces um and also things like um you know puddles as well just to kind of make things look a little bit less perfect um obviously change things like the opacity as well for those not sure why that one looks a bit lighter so I'll kind of place it over there on that sort of Darker surface but things like some cracks on the road just add a nice bit of detail you know especially if this was in the UK where we do have a few cracks and bumps in our roads of course like anybody so I think what we'll do is basically just keep working on some of these props just to make that nice little bit of realism but as I say I would definitely recommend you only really do this once you've actually pre-selected and you're really really happy with the views otherwise you tend to waste time doing things that you didn't need to do okay so we've added some detail and now we're going to go through we've chosen a view that we might want to explore now we're basically going to go through and choose some different Skies now the hdris are really perfect for this um I actually quite like often going for something a little bit more cloudy so I'm just going to download a few of those and try them out now you don't know often until you try them out but you know gradually you develop your favorites um so you can use a little heart to sort of favorite some of those ones you like now the great thing with the hdri is um you can basically rotate these around change the lighting very dynamically and what I've done here is I've basically decided to you know the chap in the foreground wasn't quite right so now what I'm doing is basically making another set of um people if you like dragging in people but you'll notice that these for still images I often like the posed people because these are really really high quality um and they're they're not animated but I think for still visuals these definitely work extremely well and you can still rotate them um but the kind of quality level is right up there so I make a little folder called still people let's put them in there and then I can hide them away as required now I'm going to go through and do a bit of rotation of that hdri and look how easy it is with twin motion to search for the perfect time and lighting now that is definitely quite a dramatic image but the lighting is kind of looking a bit extreme so what I've done here is turned on the weather function and I've just basically gone a little bit post rain so just beyond the cloud it's starting to get sunny again you get those lovely reflections of the water one of the really nice functions in the new twin motion is the you have a huge amount of control over the uh surface and the rain so basically you can really really tune up how sort of rainy it looks on different surfaces so I think what we'll do we'll go over and search for the other view that I was thinking of doing um right from the beginning which is kind of from this bench here and we'll set this up as another view and let's basically search through and just kind of change things like the hdri and the surfaces just to see if we can get a nice time of day Okay so we've got three images here I'm now going to go back to my very first one and you'll notice that I've opened up the media preview which is a really nice function because what I've noticed is you know the backdrop to this scene looks uh just doesn't look interesting at all so what I'm going to do is go to my vegetation paint tool this time from the populate panel and basically select a bunch of uh fur trees really I fancy some nice sort of pines and things like this going to get my brush really really big and just look how amazing this is in Twin motion um I can literally just paint and spray forests now look at the media preview not the main screen and you can notice that the preview is updating dynamically as we're painting these things in so that's the beauty of using that preview that I can really see in the preview image what I'm doing while working in the main editor itself so I think what we'll do is also just get the brush size down and just sort of put a couple of the sort of smaller bits of trees in there but it all really really helps like when I go to my preview even in the preview I can pop that out full screen and you'll notice that you have a couple of levels of quality as well so I love that media preview I think that's a superbly useful and that scene suddenly has come alive look at the difference just by adding in that backdrop as well so um you know big sort of nice for of forest in the background has made a big big difference so what I'm going to do is choose to render this image out at 8K I think that's the sort of primary image I'm going to go for but I'm going to keep working on this and exploring some of these other views and see if we can get a couple of really nice other views that I may well submit for the Friday exercise but I hope you're enjoying the tutorial of course if you are new around here uh drop a like and a subscribe please I'd love to see you join the channel I've got lots more videos planned and yeah it' be great to have you on board okay so let's carry on searching for another view now maybe that would make a nice view but the great thing is bit like a photographer you know you can kind of take lots of photos you don't actually have to use them so I'm going to add another one here here um if you do want to drop the camera to say I level basically you can click M to get down to what are they call pedestrian mode so that will drop you down to eye level and now I'm basically deleting some of those animated people and adding still people again in the foreground as I said the still people have really really nice sort of levels of quality and when you do those like really high res images those are the ones you probably want in your still images the animated ones are fantastic for the animations and the movement and the camera uh but there we go so as ever I'm just going to go through and play around with the hdri on this particular image which I really like actually um I had a bit of a suspicion that this would be a nice image and oh wow with that new hdri look at the reflections on the water and those nice sort of Long Shadows and that's looking really good so it's all about tweaking when we get to this stage I recommend you slow your camera down do very very small movements up and down just sech for that perfect perspective and that sort of perfect point of view um play around with the focal length of your camera by all means play around with things like the chromatic aberration sharpness and the vignetting as well those are the advanced sort of camera settings and don't forget the composition grid is really really useful when you're trying to do this sort of fine image composition uh just to kind of use things like the rule of thirds to make that look you know absolutely fantastic so I'm really really pleased with this image it's coming on nicely what I'm now going to do is duplicate the image and basically set one up using Lumen and one using path tracing so I really like duplicating the image so that I can actually play around with the different settings of the second image and essentially play around to get the settings I'm looking for now I'm working in uh path tracing I'm working in low settings so you can see it does update pretty fast um if I do want to get ready to do a final render I'll pop it into high but I'm really really pleased with that sort of path traced image it's got a nice level of quality to it so let's go ahead and basically get those images set up ready for rendering now the great thing is with turn motion as I say just before you hit the render button you probably want to take a final critical look at your image and say well is there anything else I can add into this image that will add a bit more detail so for me it's the nature I really want to add a few Birds here I'm going to add maybe a couple of like you know pigeons and let's have a little kind of cat here maybe hiding in the undergrowth spying on those pigeons I mean I guess he could go over that side but he's a bit close let's let's leave him there in the reads by the lake there let's add a bit more um sort of you know texture to the image by putting some things like dead leaves in as well and of course maybe a couple of rocks the Rocks into motion always look really nice and there's different sizes that you can use but you know just kind of breaks up that sort of lake and and just adds a bit more detail but look if things aren't right like that one doesn't look right let's delete it you know you've got to know when to stop um that's a really good tip actually I think we're twin motion it's so easy to add lots and lots of stuff uh I'm definitely guilty of this myself on earli images I was working on it's very easy to overdo them so do bear that in mind and just get ready to know when to stop so with a few final tweaks and things like the plants um I'm pretty happy with this image I'm basically going to go through and put everything in its right folder get it really organized out in fact I'm going to turn off the animated people for this particular still image just makes it look a little bit less populated so in that case I think I'll need to add a few more people at the still variety so we'll have a lady sat there on the chair and let's just get a few other people in the distance just for kind of context and a bit of interest in the background as well you can see it's extremely quick this part of the process and if you you do want to you can multi select let's go up in the air a bit basically every time you click you get a randomized person um wearing slightly different color clothes looks the same so you get that nice bit of variety okay good so we've got a wonderful uh Lumen image we're nearly nearly there the final touches as I say I can't resist to just add a few more things like cracks puddles just a little bit of detail it's pretty subtle um but it all adds detail into your image and just makes it VIs interesting for the viewer so I think I'm ready to start exporting um I'm going to do these two images um at sort of 4K rather than the 8K before going to save them as JPEG and let's just go for it and click export they don't take long and that's the beauty with twim motion the rendering is super fast so we'll just let that render away and as ever at the end of the video I'm going to review all the final outputs and maybe a couple of animations that I've also set up for this project I'm really really pleased with these images I mean they didn't take that long to do and it was certainly good fun and I'm really really glad to share my journey with you and I do hope that you enjoy using twin motion don't forget you can also get the Community Edition if you can't afford to buy the software if you can please come to me I sell it and I can teach and train all over the world for you as well so everybody I really hope you've enjoyed watching this video it's been great fun to make and I look forward to seeing you in the next one take care bye-bye [Music]
